• Marcus (5/5): - Yes the area is a mosquito playground - but this kind of "pool" which was a pond is just a mosquito breeding ground. Very simple, which is in some cases ok. A large group left before us, so breakfast was leftovers at 8am. Guy's there is much room for improvement...
• SafiaTravel (10/5): Apaisant - C'est situé en pleine nature, on se sent vraiment au calme avec pleins de chiots trop mignon. Les hôtes sont aux petits soins et le soir on a eu un dîner commun avec tous les clients de l'hôtel c'était très bon et à un bon prix. La cabane est propre avec un lit confortable. Le petit déjeuner est un buffet à volonté, et c'était bon. La seule chose à dire ce serai le prix élevé de la location de scooter, on a donc préféré rester sur place profiter du calme de cet endroit.

• Christine (10/5): We definitely recommend the Eco Lodge to anyone that enjoys trekking, rock climbing, and the outdoors. - We were looking for a quiet stay away from the crowds. The staff here is happy to arrange rides to and from Cat Ba. We hoped to trek around the property and some trails. Unfortunately, I hurt my foot before our stay there. From the moment we arrived, everyone was very friendly and informative. We ate breakfast at the property both mornings and tried their noodle soup which was very flavorful! We also had family meal with the staff and other guests on Saturday night. What an amazing experience. There was such a variety of delicious food prepared for us and we had a blast singing karaoke together! There are many dogs, one mama had puppies that were so cute.

• Katrina (5/5): Fairly basic, go here if you are laid back and not in a rush for anything. - The setting was great, so long as you don’t mind being remote. This is made pretty clear in the booking details though. They will book a car to collect you from the main road, free of charge. The staff didn’t seem particularly experienced, they struggled to book us a trip and tried to offer us alternative trips, despite us telling them the boat trip was what we wanted. The bathroom also started leaking on the last night of our stay. Thankfully all the other rooms were empty, so we just moved into one of them. When we told them what time we wanted breakfast for, it was never ready then.
• Hannah (4/5): We had hoped this would be a fantastic end to our family holiday but it was extremely disappointing - The location was lovely. Staff were friendly and the local staff worked hard - First impressions: On arrival, we were told that one of the dogs might bite which was quite concerning, especially as the dogs were off the lead, and allowed to go everywhere including the restaurant - The website said all staff hail from the island, but the woman who greeted us (and was not local) was pleasant but had very limited knowledge of the area. She said she had never been to the National Park for example, so wasn't able to tell us much about it - While the local staff made an effort when asked, and were friendly, service was never pro-active, and staff didn't appear to be trained. Sometimes they weren't present when they should have been. We felt however, that this was probably down to the owners and poor management - There was very little food available on site, and on our first evening we were told most food (main meals) had to be ordered in advance so supplies could be purchased - On more than one occasion, things we had ordered in advance didn't turn up eg a papaya salad for one meal and fresh mango for breakfast -The whole site felt uncared for and poorly maintained, and not very clean. For example, there was rubbish on the ground and 3 dog turds outside our accommodation; the outside table was dirty; and our window was broken _ 'Buttterfly Valley' which was presented as a local walk from the lodge, was inaccessible (the path was completely overgrown after a short distance) and strewn with litter - The description implied this was in an idyllic location, and while it was in a beautiful setting, it felt isolated, lonely, shabby and unloved. With all the problems we therefore found ourselves having to pay to travel 8 kilimetres into town, for example to go out for meals, which completely defeated the object of going to soemwhere described as a perfect getaway

• Michael (10/5): - The location is very serve and CG is an amazing host. Even though it was away from the main areas of cat ba, getting to and from was never an issue. Totally worth the peaceful environment if that's what you're looking for!
• Susanne (7/5): Ruhig & abgelegen, schöne Zimmer. - Schönes Zimmer, in einem Tal gelegen, sehr ruhig. Nettes Personal, insbesondere die Volunteer Lima aus Südafrika. Der Manager ist ebenfalls sehr bemüht und freundlich. Sehr abgelegen, aber man kann Roller mieten & so in die Hauptorte gelangen. Hat für uns gepasst, muss man aber mögen. Es hat ein paar sehr nette Hunde dort & einer der Angestellten hat zum Spass einen kleinen Hund in einen Ameisenhaufen gesetzt und das Ganze gefilmt. Schlimm, solche Tierquälerei sollte strikt unterbunden werden (ist evtl noch geschehen nach unserer Abreise, wissen wir nicht).

I was in the swimming pool with my son and the boss, C.G., came over and switched on a small waterfall for us. Pure bliss! The place feels a bit old and probably needs some renovation. So do the scooters..

• Candela (10/5): Una estancia maravillosa - Un sitio espectacular, poco hay más que decir. El sitio es precioso, y muy tranquilo. Nosotros nos quedamos 4 noches y no pudimos disfrutarlo más. CG nos dio una bienvenida muy buena y siempre estuvo atento a lo que necesitábamos, así como el resto del personal. Cogimos todas las actividades allí, y se come de maravilla, el mejor Pho que he probado. ¡Muchas gracias por hacer nuestra estancia tan agradable!
• coline (8/5): Un bel accueil et un lieu calme avec du potentiel à developper - L’emplacement est top, au milieu de la jungle avec une jolie vue sur les montagnes et un lac. Très apaisant. Le personnel a organisé notre venue et était très chaleureux et à l’écoute. La nourriture et les cocktails étaient délicieux. Le prix de la chambre « chalet » était un peu cher au regard de la qualité de l’infrastructure.

• 변 (10/5): 손님을 사랑하는 사장님들 덕에 아주 기가 막히는 여행을 할 수 있는 곳 - 상주하는 리셉션(사장님)이 매우 친절해요. 한국인을 정말 좋아해 주시고, 배려도 매우 좋았어요. 연계된 하노이 이동 버스를 이용할 수 있었고, 그 모든 과정을 사장님이 알아서 해주셨어요. 서로 배려할 수 있는 게스트들이 많이 이용해 주었으면 좋겠어요. 사장님과 그의 동생 덕에 하이퐁 여행을 매우 성공적으로 시작할 수 있었습니다. 다음에 또 베트남에 가게 된다면 이 사장님들을 뵈러 깟바로 가고 싶어요. 정말 좋은 숙소입니다. 롯지라서 시설 자체가 엄청 깔끔하다는 느낌은 못 받았어요. 당연히 그만큼 가격이 저렴하기 때문에 묵을 가치가 충분히 있어요. 위치도 시내와 해변과는 조금 멀지만, 오토바이 렌트가 가능하기 때문에 충분히 이동할 수 있습니다. 오토바이 렌트로 더 색다른 경험을 할 수 있어서 참 좋았어요.

• Shanda (3/5): - Super vriendelijk personeel! Veel humor en je voelt je er echt thuis. Bij alles wat je wilt, wordt meegedacht. De hut is verouderd. Weinig onderhoud geweest de laatste jaren. Na het douchen is alles nat inclusief het toilet. Eten is niet bijzonder, neem de tijd en heb geen haast. De prijs/kwaliteit verhouding klopt naar ons mening echt niet.
• Philippe (10/5): Très bon séjour - Une très belle expérience passée à l’Eco Lodge. Nous sommes restés deux nuits et avons eu la chance de partager un repas avec le propriétaire et toute son équipe. Le propriétaire nous a très bien accueilli et a fait en sorte que notre séjour se passe au mieux. La chambre était grande, propre et confortable. Les services étaient impeccables, notamment cette piscine naturelle nouvellement installée. Le personnel était très attentif à nos besoins et tout était parfait. Nous avons pu louer des scooters sur place à moindre prix. Qui plus est, l’endroit se situe dans un endroit naturel et reculé de la ville en pleine expansion touristique. Nous recommandons donc ce lieu pour les personnes cherchant calme et repos.

• Michael (9/5): Superb - Staff, food were excellent. Also good English speakers. Evening had a nice dinner party vibe to it. Host hooked me up with a bus to get off the island before the impending typhoon hit. Not sure how they did it, but our bus skipped the horribly long lines at the port to cross to Haiphong. We were then escorted, not to a ferry, but a speed boat that got to the mainland within ten minutes. The nature trails leaving from the property were...not really trails and required long pants/sleeves. If you can rent a scooter, which I couldn't the first day because all of theirs were already rented, it's a nice, quiet location and you can go wherever you want.

CG greeted us with a warm smile and took the time to explain everything about the Eco Lodge and its surroundings – a personal touch we really appreciated. The lodge itself feels like a hidden paradise, perfectly nestled in nature. It’s peaceful, serene, and full of charm. The natural swimming pool is a real highlight, perfect for cooling off during the day, while evenings are filled with the calming sounds of crickets and frogs – a magical soundtrack to fall asleep to. The staff were wonderful: friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Their genuine kindness made the stay even more special.
• Nhung (7/5): I like to enjoy my own time so it's perfect for me to be here - Friendly and helpful staff and dogs haha, it's in a cool and peaceful location with nature so that I could enjoy Yoga & meditation and relax in the pool in the early morning, having a good pool with natural water from the lake- my son loves it. Food can be improving and I want more light in the room 😊
• Matthijs (9/5): Superb - Absolutely lovely little lodge location in a valley outside Cat Ba town. The staff is wonderful and CJ is good fun to be around. The lodges are comfortable with good beds and bathrooms. There are options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Getting to town is basically only possible with a scooter, which can be rented on location. Scooter rental prices are quite high compared to other places but not too crazy.
• Samantha (8/5): Very good - The kindness, help and consideration of all of the staff at the Eco Lodge was remarkable. We were upgraded into a chalet - which was basic, but really clean and everything you need inside for a good night's sleep. Views were lovely!
• Mario (8/5): Very good - The location is 20 minutes away from cat ba town and all the tourists, which is exactly what I was looking for. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They helped me book a cruise which was very enjoyable. The rooms are clean and look beautiful. Someone was burning trash quite close to the resort which resulted in a really bad smell outside for 2 out of 4 days.
• Paul (10/5): Good for comfort and conscience - That is how you need to spend your vacation! It's authentic and sustainable and you don't feel like you are part of the movement that is endangering this beautiful landscape. Next to all the mega Resorts, this gem is the only viable option.
• Rebecca (7/5): Charming location and staff, average room - The receptionist was very helpful and informative. He was able to sort out our laundry, bus tickets, renting a motorbike, and taking us to the bus stop. Also the eco lodge itself is more remote - 20-30 min drive to the town centre which means it is quieter and you’re surrounded by nature which is exactly what we wanted. Shower pressure was excellent. The chalet looked incredible in the pictures online but was smaller in person than we expected and somewhat unfinished, with tape across the top one window and uncovered plywood on the balcony for example.

Staff super friendly and helpful - they put on a lovely dinner and we ate with the staff and other guests which was really nice. Adorable puppies, really in nature surroundings - we enjoyed listening to the happy frogs after a rainy night.

• Sophie (10/5): Perfect place to unwind in the middle of nature with a lovely team - After two weeks of traveling through Vietnam, Cat Ba Eco Lodge was exactly what we needed to unwind. Peaceful, quiet, and surrounded by nature – we loved just sitting on the veranda and listening to the sounds of the forest. The whole place is beautifully designed, and our bungalow was clean, cozy, and perfect for relaxing days. The team was super friendly and attentive. Especially a big thank you to CG at the reception for taking such good care of us! We did some hikes straight from the lodge, rented a scooter to explore the island, went kayaking, and just enjoyed the calm atmosphere. The food was really tasty, and the family dinner on our last night was such a lovely experience! And of course, the adorable dogs and puppies totally stole our hearts. We had a wonderful time and would love to come back someday!

• Shelly (10/5): Exceptional - This was a wonderful, quiet place to stay away from the noise and bustle of the village. I had some wonderful, quiet evenings sitting on the deck of the cabin, watching the sun set with a glass of wine. The food was excellent! The staff went above and beyond to help me plan my stay on the island, organizing tours and transport for me. With their help, everything went without a single problem, and I had a wonderful time! A huge thanks to everyone who helped me during my stay and were just so wonderfully kind and accommodating. Nice birding and wildlife watching nearby! Thousands of butterflies, if you go at the right time of year.

• Jenna (10/5): Wouldn't stay anywhere else - After a week in Hanoi, this location was perfect. The forest and chalets were so beautiful and peaceful, I immediately asked to stay an additional night. I happily ate every meal there and, although it was 20 minutes from towns/harbors, the staff was extremely helpful in arranging transport and tours (including special requests). I appreciated the sustainability ethos, especially as my main goal on the island was seeing the critically endangered langurs. It also couldn't have been easier to get there from Hanoi -- they arranged one bus/ferry/bus trip that included hotel pickup and dropoff. I enjoyed meeting the other guests as well. Just a truly wonderful stay thanks to the skillful and generous Kien, Hieu, Cuong, Hằng, and Aye.
• Nina (10/5): Wonderful chalet with great service - The chalets are beautifully furnished, very quiet, and idyllically located, with plenty of activities nearby. The food and service were consistently excellent, and we received great advice and support with our planning. Highly recommended! The only downside is that the chalets are somewhat poorly soundproofed, so noise from neighbors can be an issue if you get bad luck. Additionally, some minor renovations could be beneficial. Otherwise, they are absolutely fantastic!
• Irene (8/5): Fantastic remote place to rest and be in contact with nature - The nature location was amazing, very calm and stunning views from the chalet. The staff made you feel at home from the beginning. The chalet was smaller than we expected from the photos. The food was a bit blend and more expensive than local prices. In addition, in the website free bicycles were offered but they weren’t fixed when we stayed so we had to rent a scooter.
• Sellene (8/5): Beautiful location in Cat Ba! - Really peaceful location. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Location being slightly further out wasn't an issue for us as tours, transfers etc were easily arranged to pick us up from the lodge. We had a few issues with hot water which could have been avoided if it had been clearly explained how to use the system when we arrived.
• Maggie (10/5): Beautiful lodging with great staff!! - CG and the rest of the staff are absolutely amazing. They went out of their way to ensure I had a great stay — not only at Eco Lodge but on the island of Cat Ba. The lodge has great recs about restaurants, scooters to rent, and is near a lake and the national park. Additionally, I loved CG’s dogs! Highly recommend this beautiful oasis as a place to get to know Cat Ba and other travelers. Would 10/10 stay here again and/or recommend to friends/family.
• Sara (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic atmosphere in the middle of the nature. Super friendly and helpful staff that helped us with a lot of our tour arrangements as well as other things. Very flexible. Warm, and genuinely caring staff.
• Katherine (9/5): Very wonderful and friendly staff. I also loved that there are many dogs running around. But the cabins and facilities n - you get your own little cabin surrounded by nature, not too far nor too close from downtown. the cabins and overall property is a bit run down and needs some fixing up. a window in my cabin had a major gap that you couldn’t close, and hot water didn’t come out. but when I talked to the staff they quickly moved us into another cabin so that they could fix the broken water heater.

• Ricarda (9/5): Loved the location, would go there again. - The huts are very nice. In the middle of a forest. You can hear animals in the night. The big windows are super! The stuff especially CG is really helpful. The food was ok, but no great.
• Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Offered to make us some dinner as soon as we arrived. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. The patio on our cabin opened up to a beautiful view of the reservoir.

• Jonathan (8/5): A good time was had - Lovely peaceful environment. Good staff . They arranged scooters and booked our onward bus tickets which was useful. Food can be got at the resort but there are good and varied options in Cat BA town. Internet quality in the chalet I was in was not very powerful but worked well in the main reception area. My chalet needs a little bit of maintenance ( cracked bathroom tiles) and the bedding had holes in the cotton covers (moths?) My chalet had two double beds in it which took up most of the space. For two people it would have been too small. We enjoyed our stay
• Kerstin (9/5): Superb - We enjoyed our stay at the lodge in the tree house amongst the butterflies and chipmunks. The staff are very attentive, kind and assisted us with organising tours and transfers. We enjoyed our joint celebratory feast with them and the other guests. It is quiet, peaceful and away from the development of Cat Ba Town.
• Jake (10/5): Everything you want and anything need. Eco lodge will make it happen. Loved everything and everyone there. - The feel of the area and setting was amazing The staff and the 3 grumpy dogs haha
• Laurence (10/5): Great place surrounded by nature! - Staff, location, the chef, the food, the nature! We felt like we were part of the family! The chef made us a special dish and it was AMAZING! Rooms are clean and spacious. Great drinks at good prices! Would go back again! The pool water was unclear, but I believe this was due to our visit right after the typhoon.
• Ilkka (10/5): Special place in nature to calm down, perfect hosts - Great place to calm down, beautiful spot and extraordinary nice host. They made every wish come true. Enjoy real silence in the Forrest. Bungalows giving great vibes. Beds quite hard for our taste

Really impressed! It could use a few minor upgrades such as repainting.

• Ashley (8/5): Peaceful retreat at end of road - Very peaceful forest retreat at the end of a minor side road on Cat Ba island. Large timber rooms. Restaurant serves dinner and breakfast. Nice staff. Quiet place to relax. A bit expensive by Vietnam standards.
• Sophia (9/5): Superb - We had a wonderful time at Cat Ba Eco Lodge and this was, first and foremost, due to the wonderful staff, their friendliness, their support and their warmhearted hospitality! They supported us with organising the trips and tours we wanted to take and helped us with the transport to and from the eco lodge. The lodge itself is located in a beautiful scenery and equipped with all necessary amenities. Definitely worth a visit!
• Kommer (9/5): Quiet, relaxing place with great staff and fantastic food - Unique place on Cat Ba Island, very tranquil and lush in nature, away from the tourism hotspots - which can still be reached easily in 20 minutes or so. Great staff, great food, great service.
• Graham (8/5): If you want to be in the middle of nature on Cat Ba look no further - Fabulous location just outside city centre. Peaceful stay with a nice swimming pool. Very helpful and friendly staff. Hosts will drop you off at main road for tour pick-ups. Excellent value for money Food was okay.

• Kai (10/5): Nice place to relax - The Loge is very good to relax in nature. It’s a nice place in the woods. The staff is helpful, friendly and organizes nice tours for you, if you want. There is a nice big pool where you can swim and relax.

• Judith (3/5): Very disappointing and a waste of our precious few days of holiday - Not much Information on the website was misleading. It wasn’t 4 star. It was isolated, rundown and no activities. Once you’re there, there’s nothing to do. No hiking trails as expected
• Alessandro (7/5): We have been very unlucky with the weather (heavy storms all day) but we didn’t enjoy the ecolodge as much as we thought - We liked the location in the jungle and the peacefulness. Nice that it has many opens spaces. The hotel manager has been very nice and helpful Restaurant in the hotel was disappointing and, besides the manager, staff was not very helpful.
• Susan (7/5): Basic accommodation in a beautiful setting. - I really liked the tranquil location in the forest and recommend it for nature-lovers and those looking for a break from the bustle. The chalet was a smaller one than the picture advertised, but it was perfectly adequate for a solo traveller. The room was simple and clean, with a small toilet/wet room. The meals were average, but filling. Overall, a solid option for those looking for beautiful surrounds but not bothered by basic accommodation/amenities. The major drawcard is the location - although this could benefit from a litter clean-up. Nothing major, but there was some litter under my chalet and scattered around. The general customer service and communication could also be improved. For example, I was under the impression that there was a daily free shuttle service into Cat Ba town. This is not the case. However, the lodge will transport you to the bus stop, and a bus (Thinh Hung bus service) will then take you into town for VND 13 one way. Same applies for the return trip.

• Tri Dung (2/5): - The place is completely rundown, nothing looks like the pictures. The room was filled with mosquito and food choice was limited and horrible. Dont book this place even if you think is a good deal it will be a nightmare.
