Guest Reviews
- Marion (9/5): Geweldig verblijf in mooie natuurlijke accommodatie!
- Schoon, goede prijs kwaliteit verhouding Het was onze eerste keer glamping. Het zal niet “ ons ding “ worden
- Eva339 (7/5): -
- DUFFAUT (5/5): Disappointed - The cenote with the fishes .
The breakfast was ok It was suppose to be a glamping in a Natural zone … surrounded by a bricks wall right behind the wooden bungalows used as rooms… close to the highway and the railroad
Even though there was no more places for visiting the animal refuge , the video displayed at the restaurant makes us feel it look like more as animal in cages
Ras
- Gardiner (10/5): 10/10, would definitely recommend staying here 😊❤️🐒 - We absolutely loved our time at Akumal Glamping. Not only were the staff here absolutely wonderful, the property was beautiful and our room was very clean and comfortable. We even saw monkeys on the property while we were there, which was definitely a highlight!! We felt very safe the entire time we were there, they have security cameras and the front gate is always monitored. There are always stuff available to help/answer questions if you need them, and everyone was very kind and happy to help. The location was perfect for us, it was far enough away from the touristy side by the beach that we were able to experience more of the local side of things, which is what we had hoped for, but we could still head over to the touristy side if we wanted to (It was about a half an hour, maybe a 45-minute walk at most). We really like going into the Pueblo for dinner and eating with the locals. We met some pretty cool people while we were here !
We would come back to Akumal glamping in a heartbeat! It was an incredibly relaxing location, and we loved that they had the cenotes right on site 😊❤️
Side Note: If you do make the smart decision to come stay here, the Akumal Natura Rescue tour is a must. Caesar was our guide, and you can really see how much they care for these animals. Honestly I feel like this was one of the best parts of staying here, we really loved this tour and we're glad we had Caesar as our guide! I'm proud that we were able to help support their work, and we even got some honey to take home (which is delicious, don't miss out lol) I will start by saying this has absolutely nothing to do with Akumal Glamping themselves, I honestly have nothing bad to say about them!! BUT this is something that we wish we had of known ahead of time so that we were prepared to bring a little more cash - the taxis in Akumal are very expensive, so if you're not able to walk the distance to get to the ocean and you are planning on seeing it, definitely take this into consideration. A 10-minute taxi drive is going to cost you about $60 - $80 US, and that seems to be the norm all around Akumal for these. We were shocked by this, we know sometimes people will charge more and you can usually talk them down a bit but it didn't seem to be like that in Akumal.
- Orkatz (7/5): -
- Kieran (9/5): A relaxing place to rest and unwind. - The hut was very large and comfortable, and the strong fan made the nights much cooler. The staff were so friendly. We got massages and would HIGHLY recommend—truly an experience not to miss, and a great value. Having the yoga pavilion available to stretch in was amazing—you can use it on your own time, or book a private class for ~$20 per person. The jungle setting was very peaceful and a welcome respite after spending the day at the busy beaches.
- Achim (8/5): -
- Kevin (6/5): We didn't love the Akumal area but Akumal Natura "Glamping" is mostly as advertised. - Tents are pretty much as described and as we expected and we were 100% happy with them. Property is generally very quiet. Seeing two monkeys in the trees within 2 minutes of arriving at our tents was a nice bonus. On New Year's Eve we asked about dinner but were told we would have needed to make reservations previously but NO ONE had mentioned anything in our two days and nights there, nor was there any notice about it. We ended up seeing no guests eating dinner there so it was obvious what the staff wanted. The woman who works reception can be deeply unpleasant. Because neither of our phones would make calls we asked her to call a restaurant to confirm they were open but she refused. I need to say that the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Also, their bikes are useless pieces of crap. We weren't expecting anything great but they are literally not rideable (the chains are so loose they fall off the instant you turn a pedal).
- maria (10/5): Eccellenza! - Tutto
CENOTE privato
Essere immersi nella selva
TUTTO MERAVIGLIOSO
- Kyle (9/5): -
- Stefan (10/5): - Indescribable! Piece and quiet! Clean, everything one ca expect from a glamping. Mosquitos - it’s not anyone’s fault, it’s just nature
- Sarina (10/5): Comfortable Glamping in the Jungle - Great glamping experience in a fairly remote part of the jungle, away from town.
Nice and clean accommodation.
Very friendly and helpful staff. They recently changed owners and need to clean up the property a bit. I hope the construction of cabañas will not destroy the natural feel of the place.
- natacha (10/5): -
Petit dej basique inclus, sympa.
- Marta (8/5): Świetne miejsce w otoczeniu przyrody - polecamy!
- Patrick (8/5): - A great and fun experience to see nature. To get the full experience, you should go on the wildlife sanctuary tour as well. They did say there was hot water in the rooms / tents but it was only cold water.
- Alex (6/5): - Lovely forest setting, cenotes on the property, night swimming a highlight! Friendly staff, good coffee. Bit run down, we had no hot water
- Jakubiec (10/5): - The whole atmosphere was peaceful and comfortable. I loved the rooms because they were cool at night and comfortable and quiet. Thebsower was fantastic! Too far of a walk to the beach.
- Sylvia (8/5): - Staff was so nice, helpful…They have two cenotes beautiful.
- Jakubiec (10/5): - I loved how peaceful the property is, and the rooms or tents are very comfortable. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. It is a beautiful way to explore Akumal That the walk to the beach is a little far.
- Sara (8/5): -
- Felix (6/5): - Unieke locatie in de natuur
Unieke kamer met buitendouche Slechtwerkende ventilator
Erg heet
Douche
- Johanne (7/5): Good - The bungalows are placed in nature, and we saw monkeys in the trees. Also othe animals.
Rooms are clean. Friendly and helpful staff.
Free bikes are fine. It takes around 20-25 min to go to the beach on bike.
Would recommend the rooms with air-conditioning if you stay there in July. The breakfast is only half an apple, and some papya + a little bit of yougurt.
We stayed in low seaso, so the place was a little empty. Middle of July is simply too warm if you are in a bungalow without air-conditioning. Luckily, we were allowed to upgrade to a room with air-conditioning. Remember to bring a lot of mosquito spray.
- Vanissia Dawn (10/5): - The staff and service here was phenominal. I had no complàints with this place. They made sure we enjoyed our stay and they were super friendly and their english was very good.
- Josanne (8/5): Very good - Beautiful environment, very friendly staff, and the bike is very useful to go around
- Nico (6/5): - The property was quite loud during my stay and not relaxing like I had hoped. I ended up leaving a day early at my own expense as a result.
- Dita (10/5): - Accommodation : The tent was awesome, nice bed. Staff were amazing and helpfull. Also the Cenote inside the property available 24/7.
- Iain (8/5): Very good - Great location...feels in the middle of nowhere but is less than 10 mins walk to Akumal and about 20 to the beach. Staff were great and would be an ideal stay for some relaxing. No complaints!
- Jennie (10/5): Exceptional - This was our best stay in mexico. Loved it. Everyone was super helpful.
Note - Their Monkey Sanctuary is a different one from the Akumal Monkey Sanctuary. We didn't realise and booked the other one. Both do great work but I wish we had done the Akumal glamping one. ALSO book their Turtle trip. Again we missed their one but talking to them it sounds like it would have been amazing. Just say yes to the transport to beach option if you don't want to walk.
Anyways ... these guys are so helpful and lovely and on-site restaurant was perfect.
Another restaurant we liked at the beach was the bakery / cafe. Was a little out of the town but only about 10 mins walk to town and 20 mins walk to the beach. I'm sure if you didn't want to do the walk they would help you with transport. Oh walking back after dark the road was unlighted. Our ph torch worked well for us but others may prefer to get transport.
- Alina (8/5): Very good -
- Jennie (10/5): Exceptional - 2nd review as 2 bookings for a date change which they accommodated with no problems.
- Jessica (10/5): - I absolutely loved my stay here. Beautiful place, the restaurant is exceptional, the included breakfast fresh and delicious, and the staff are amazing.
- jessicademaria (10/5): Warm staff making this peaceful location such a stand out... - This is a beautiful and very peaceful location...the rooms are great with comfy beds and fresh linens. The outdoor shower is EVERYTHING. Most importantly, the staff here is wonderful. Warm, familial and extremely helpful-as a woman traveling solo it was great to know everyone here was looking out for me! The restaurant here is also exceptional-especially the ceviche (I literally had it 3 times). While staying here, I took a tour of the animal rescue as well which was well worth it. Ceasar was a great guide and clearly has a passion and dedication to the wildlife. We also learned so much and ended our tour with a swim in the most exquisite Cenote. On property at the Glamping, there are 2 cenotes, though one is closed at the moment. However the small one at the front was great for a cool dip (especially beautiful at night!).
It's about a 15 minute walk to the Akumal Bay (or you can take a bike free from the hotel). The walk is totally fine-though, it was hot-and the next day I took a 150pesos tuk tuk to half-moon bay, and hung out at La Buena Vida. This was a totally unexpected little adventure that ended up being SUCH a gorgeous spot to spend an evening. I have the hotel staff to thank for the recommendation and for putting me in touch with Javier-the best Tuk Tuk driver ever lol. I sincerely look forward to returning here next year!
- katemM3400YI (10/5): Relaxed atmosphere and really friendly people! - I had an amazing week staying at the Akumal natura glamping resort! They've done an excellent job of providing the comforts of home while maintaining a rustic and casual vibe I was hoping for. You can really unwind being surrounded by forest and the sounds of wildlife, and you might just spot a monkey cruising through the canopy overhead. The restaurant onsite is fantastic, or you can easily walk/bike into the nearby town for more food options.
There are two cenotes on site that are easily accessible from the glamping area, but unfortunately one of them wasn't open during my stay. I believe they are upgrading it to be more accessible, so future guests will have that to look forward to! A dip in the smaller cenote was perfect for cooling off on a hot day.
If you stay here you definitely need to join the wildlife rescue tour that ends with a swim in yet another cenote (only accessible via the tour), which is hands down the coolest underground cenote I've ever been in! Cesar was the tour guide, and he truly shined with passion for his work and did an amazing job of sharing his knowledge of the wildlife and rehabilitation work being done.
The property is situated just off the beaten tourist track but still very close to a lot of local activities and attractions. I easily filled my time with day trips, and the staff were kind enough to suggest places to visit that I wouldn't have found on my own. It took me about 20 minutes to walk to Akumal beach.
Thanks to all the staff there for creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. I really enjoyed my stay!
- Anastasia (9/5): Superb - Beautiful cenote
- Sylvia (10/5): Great stay at the jungle with cenotes included! - Loved staying in the glamping tents. We got to see monkeys, amazing birds, iguanas and bats. We also took the tour to the rescue centre which was excellent and included a stop in a gorgeous cenote. There are also 2 cenotes within the premises. One is being worked on but we could still go to submerge our feet for a "foot spa" with small fish (my feet never felt softer!) And the other one was great for a refreshing swim. I very much preferred staying here than somewhere by the very busy beach.
- Francisco (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gabriela (10/5): - Solo traveler. Felt safe from day one. Staff courteous and very friendly. Accommodations met all my needs.
- Y3152EPkirstenb (10/5): GO HERE! - We loved our tour through Akumal Natura Rescue with guide, César. He clearly has a heart for the animals and their well-being. We learned much about the species native to the area and how the Rescue is doing their best to assimilate their animals back into the wild where they belong, and if they can't because the animal has imprinted on humans (due to former negligent owners), they will keep them in their native habitat and under the care of people that take good care of them. We ended our tour in the most beautiful cenote and cooled off well. Thank you Cesar for the most educational and interesting tour.
- Ema (9/5): Superb -
- Jacquelyn (10/5): Exceptional - This is the second time we have stayed at Izamal Plaza and we will stay there again the next time we’re in Izamal.
Large, beautiful and comfortable rooms. Secure parking. Excellent rooftop sitting area and the location is great for walking around the Yellow City.
- Elton (10/5): Incredible full experience - Staff was extremely helpful and nice. you must do all activities they provide , worth the money, the experience and helping the rescue center and the entire concept . Best experience was without a doubt our tour with the guide Cesar around the park. Like the cesar salada he says. The best! The massage is also a must , 4 types of masssage in 1h30 with a topnoch massagist . food very tasty . we also took the to see turtles , booking via the the reception they provide a local and help the camping too. confort of the place is high considering its camping. cenotes in the park to swim. zero
- Robyn (10/5): Fish spa - Lovely location. Loved seeing the spider monkey overhead and iguanas wandering. The fishspa is something special for Noth Americans. People seemed to enjoy the monkey sanctuary. We will do that next visit.
- 321autumne (10/5): One of a kind experience! - We loved our visit to the Akumal Natura Rescue! Our guide Cesar was so informative and obviously loves nature and the animals! His passion is amazing! He even pulled over on our way to the jungle location to catch a boa constrictor that was crossing the road to show him to us and teach us about him! The swim in the beautiful cenote at the end of the tour was so refreshing! Tours are small groups so it feels very personalized!

- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional - I LOVED this place! So beautiful in nature, surrounded by trees, plants and animals. The cenote is beautiful where you can swim. The staff is super friendly and the breakfast that is included is simple but nice! You are secluded from nearby places but they provide bikes which is nice to tour around. I really didn’t want to leave this magical place!! The mosquito net is too tight around the king size bed, so advise to get a bigger one.
- Katherina (10/5): - It was a pleasant quiet place
- Susan (10/5): - Amazing, very peaceful, unique and wonderful experience
- Bernard (10/5): - Beautiful quiet glamping in the jungle. Nice staff. Great food. Comfortable bed and hot shower.
- Tammy (6/5): - This is one hundred percent my fault but I noped out about 20 minutes after arriving.
There was a spider in our bed the size of the back of my hand. After that, every bead of sweat may as well have been another one. I couldn’t do it.
I’m not a wealthy person but I had booked a week and ‘gave up’ my $650-700 plus $$ cab ride back to playa del Carmen within an hour of arriving.
I’m happy to have donated to what seems like a very good cause at least. Never even made it to the animal sanctuary or a cenote. The staff was very understanding and helped us get right back on track…
Welcome to the jungle 😜
- Juha (8/5): - Ventilator wasn't enough to cool the tent and was very lound (when it was on one could not hear the sounds of the jungle).
Cenotes were lovely, we enjoyed especially the fish spa.
Personnel was very friendly and helpful.
There was no white wine in the restaurant, but I think it was a temporary problem 😊
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing to say
- Ione (9/5): Superb - I loved this place so so much!! Possibly my favourite place I've ever stayed in Mexico, and I visit family there every few years. You're in the jungle, waking up to the sounds of motmot birds and howler monkeys, but with a huge comfortable bed, well lit pathways to your room and the restaurant, a hot shower and two beautiful cenotes. The staff are all so friendly and it seemed as if all the other guests were also there for a bit of peace and rest, so it was a very chilled place to be. We ended up changing our plans to just spend the day there as it has such a nice feel. And we saw spider monkeys up in the trees! The breakfast was nice but quite basic, a bit more fruit or tortillas instead of white bread would've been nice - but maybe the bread is for the european tourists! The coffee wasn't very good and sometimes had run out by the time I went to get some.
- Walter (9/5): Superb - Very nice to be in the jungle. Lovely and thought through huts. All Personal extra helpful and friendly . The tour to the sanctuary ist a must Nothin
- Linda (8/5): - What I loved:
Feeling like we were in a secluded location in the jungle.
The beautiful setting.
The wonderful staff. They really made everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. And when my arrival was delayed, it was easy to communicate with them via WhatsApp.
The resident cat.
Comfortable rooms with ensuite bathrooms.
The semi-outdoor shower in the bathroom.
Our visit to the animal rescue.
Bicycles you can borrow.
Although the menu lists separate breakfast and dinner menus, I asked for an omelette at dinner and they gladly made one.
What I didn't love, but still liked it:
Cold shower - to be fair, the info page does mention this, I just didn't read carefully enough.
Not actually as isolated in the jungle as you think. I could hear some neighbor's music late into the night, but not in a fun, enjoy the music kind of way. Earplugs helped.
The bathroom was just a bit more rustic than I expected. It was still fine and functional.
The friend I traveled with was initially a bit skeptical, because she is accustomed to sales conferences in fancy, chain hotels. Our stay, and the staff, won her over. She loved staying "somewhere different" and she loved our visit to the animal rescue.
One note, the lead photo on Expedia is misleading. Akumal Natura is not on or near the beach.
- Dream827039 (10/5): Fantastic experience. - Fantastic visit to Natura Rescue Akumal.
Tour guide was Cesar and he was incredibly.knowledgeable and deeply cared for the wildlife they were preserving.
Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to anyone visiting the area. They kindly gave us a ride back to the hotel afterwards too.
- Christi (10/5): Glamorous jungle cozy camper - Absolutely beautiful! The most peaceful and relaxing place, stunning cenotes and the best of nature in this jungle oasis. Staff was so friendly and the food was great. It was very safe and quiet. I especially loved the outdoor swing under the trees.
- Larry (10/5): - The hospitality was very good and the concierge services were excellent. The property is set in the jungle and provides a cool and calming environment with two cenotes a central communal palapa for yoga, and other venues and few other spaces to relax. All the staff were engaging and friendly. I really felt welcome and a part of their community. A very important part of Akumal Natura is their wild animal rescue and tour is not to be missed.

- Seth (8/5): - We had an incredible stay at this glamping spot nestled deep in the lush Mexican rainforest. The location was absolutely breathtaking, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. One of the highlights for us was the chance to see Jefferies spider monkeys up close, a subspecies we’d never encountered before. Their presence made the experience feel even more unique and connected to the natural environment.
The facilities themselves were top-notch. Our tent was spacious, clean, and well-maintained, providing all the comforts we needed while still giving us that outdoor feel. The entire site was beautifully designed and very quiet, perfect for relaxing after days spent exploring the surrounding rainforest. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves at times, which added to the peaceful atmosphere.
However, we did run into a bit of an issue with security. When we returned one evening, there was no staff present, and the gate to the facility was locked. After a long day, it was frustrating to have to find a way in ourselves just to get back to our tent. While it didn’t ruin our experience, we hope they improve their security arrangements for future guests.
Despite that hiccup, we absolutely loved our time here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an immersive, tranquil experience in the rainforest. The combination of comfortable glamping and wildlife encounters, especially with the Jefferies spider monkeys, made it an unforgettable stay.
- Katharina (9/5): Superb - The whole area is beautiful and magical with the Cenotes, we signed up for a yoga class in the morning that was wonderful. Breakfast is very basic, just fruit and bread with butter.
- Szerdi (10/5): Magical nature stay - Stunning natural oasis with gorgeous private cenotes. Definitely visit the animal sanctuary Breakfast was underwhelming but fine as free
- priorlake (10/5): Akumal Natura Rescue - super cool experience - We did the Natura Rescue tour for the 2nd time. Cesar was our guide. The experience was even better than our first! So fun to spend time in the jungle learning about the native species (and a few non-native). Planting a tree, seeing wild monkeys on the property too (including a baby), and finally taking a dip in the serene and cool waters of their on-site, and un-adulterated cenote.... one of the highlights of our trip. The true highlight was Cesar's baby coati that followed us through the entire tour and interacts like a pet! Truly amazing experience. You do good work!
