- Louise (10/5): Great! Would stay again for sure - Th beds were so comfy!
The breakfast and shuttle services made life so easy! The staff were really helpful too
- Imogen (10/5): -
- Leigh (1/5): Terrible - Location Miserable, unhelpful staff, rooms too small, not modern
- Steve (9/5): Really great location, lovely staff. Worth a look! - Staff, location, facilities.
- Kristine (8/5): -
- Anneliese (10/5): - I had an amazing stay and was genuinely impressed from start to finish. I was travelling as part of a group of six, and the staff handled this effortlessly, making everything feel easy and well organised. They were absolutely exceptional, personable, kind, and always willing to help with anything we needed. One standout was the shuttle bus service, which was incredibly well run and convenient, with both free and paid options available, making getting around stress-free.
Upon checkout, the team were so accommodating and happy for us to wait comfortably while we arranged transport, which really reinforced how thoughtful and guest-focused they are. Overall, this was a fantastic experience. I was truly impressed, would love to stay again, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to others.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Loved staying here! Staff were fabulous, very helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable and spotless. I ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. It was a quick short walk into town. Would definitely stay again!
- Darren (10/5): - The staff are super helpful and are there to help you enjoy your stay at the hotel but also you time at Hakuba. Happo is a short walk, there’s a free shuttle to Hakuba47 directly outside. Free shuttles to other resorts nearby. Breakfast incl in the room rate. Very little there was no tv which is not really a bad thing. Yet that’s the only real issue I could think of.
- Luke (10/5): Great - Very welcoming and helpful staff, booked our accommodation with them last minute and staff were extremely helpful Nothing to dislike
- Ben (10/5): -
- Matt (9/5): Great spot. Great staff awsm snow - AWSM location. Great staff. Easy to get around with their shuttle service. A few more options on the menu or maybe a bit better priced.
- Samuel (6/5): -
- David (10/5): Money well spent - Good location, breakfast every morning and a onsen for use after a day on the slopes. Staff were great, pick up and drop off at the train station and really accomodating and welcoming. -
- Danny (10/5): Amazing stay, great staff, really really enjoyed our time here - I definitely recommend this hotel, good location, the staff were amazing, food was awesome, onsen was good, rooms were spotless.
The shuttle bus service was also a great surprise,
Sam, Aussie and Anonie were amazing, gave really good advice and knowledge of the area, and fun to be around. Give those guys a pay rise :)
We will definitely be coming back here next time We were happy with everything, nothing to complain about here.
But if anything it would be we had 3 a third person in the room, so the rooms felt a bit squashed with another double bed in there, there wasn't any space to walk in the room with the extra bed.
- Cooper (10/5): -
- Tiare (10/5): Great staff, amazing location, and cozy bed for a reasonable price - The location was quiet even thought I was so close to town. And the bus stop right in front made getting to other mountains easy! The first few days I didn’t know you could make the bidet water warmer than ice cold
- Greig (10/5): It was okay but there are definitely things that you can do better with a little thought. - The breakfast was okay. But a bit limited in comparison to the other properties I have stayed at in Happo The third bed in out triple room was really uncomfortable. It was actually a couch, not a bed. When you book a tripple room the three beds should be the same so that was disappointing.
- Sally (8/5): -
- Rory (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay and the transfer from the bus terminal was really great - particularly given I had to change the time. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
- Heidi (10/5): -
- Joshua (10/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): - My kids and I spent a wonderful few days at the Double Black Hotel. The location is fantastic—right near Hakuba Village and just a short walk or shuttle ride to the Happo gondola.
The room was very clean and comfortable for the three of us, and the staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming from the moment we arrived.
The shuttle bus service was also great, making getting around super easy. Considering the time of year, it was also fantastic value for money—especially for a family stay in such a prime ski spot.
If you're coming to visit Hakuba, I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel!
- Sandy (10/5): An awesome place to stay, with great facilities and helpful friendly staff who go above and beyond! - Fantastic friendly and helpful staff. Beautiful breakfast. Great location to the town and shuttle service at the front of the hotel to ski fields.
- Carmen (10/5): It was amazing - The services provided Nothing
- Olenic (9/5): The hotel was clean, comfortable and conveniently located- with great staff and amenities! - We had a great stay here. The staff were warm and genuinely helpful, the location was super convenient, and the amenities made a real difference. Having a dry room and a washer/dryer was incredibly handy, and the on-site onsen was the perfect way to unwind after a long day. Would happily stay here again. The hot breakfast itself was quite good and nicely prepared, but the service was very slow, which made it difficult when we were on a schedule. Dinner was fine, but for the price, it didn’t feel like a great value compared to other options nearby. Overall, there’s potential here, but improving timing and value would really elevate the experience.
- Louise Crowther (8/5): - Friendly and helpful staff
- Chloe (10/5): Thanks Double Black for a great ski break! - Really comfortable lodge in a beautiful and convenient location - with great skiing nearby and regular lifts to and from local ski areas. Have to shout of the staff who were so friendly and welcoming, they really made us feel comfortable! Nothing to complain about!
- sophie (10/5): Cosy and comfortable stay - Location of the hotel was very central, restaurants within 10 mins walking distance and about 10/15 min walk to the main town. Breakfast was very good, with generous portions to set you up for the day. Rooms were very spacious, beds were comfy and the heating in the room worked very well. Very welcoming vibe in this hotel. Rooms were also very clean.
Staff were always helpful, and the hotel shuttle bus service was brilliant. There is also a public shuttle bus to some of the mountains that the hotel shuttle doesn't run to right outside the door of the hotel. I would recommend staying here. nothing
- Courtney (10/5): A brilliant winter wonderland - We loved it! The staff were so friendly. The rooms were exceptionally clean. Great morning cappuccinos too. The food is brilliant. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the rooms are good sizes with nice bathrooms. We loved it. It’s a little out of the main town, but they offered shuttles and lifts to all of the ski resorts/town. They were amazing
- Bain (6/5): If it wasn’t for the incredible staff, we probably wouldn’t consider returning. - The staff were incredible. Ally, , Miaka, Olivia, Lou and the drivers, Jake, Ethan, Ben and Sam. If not for them, the review wouldn’t have been as positive. It just felt like there were too many hidden, high costs. On top of the kitchen being incredibly out of depth and food very poor. The price for food, drinks and additional drives was a huge disappointment. I feel a lot more people would drink/eat in the bar and restaurant if it wasn’t so expensive but also the food quality and wait times was a lot better. On top of that, the crazy cost for private trips when often the drivers aren’t that busy. Reducing the cost would probably entice a lot more people to explore surrounding areas and keep staff busy.

- Shaun (9/5): A comfortable stay in Hakuba for families, with great staff,a perfect location. - My family stayed for a few nights and loved it. Cool vibe, great staff, great location.
Front desk staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with everything we needed.
We enjoyed the room, onsen and lounge. Can recommend Double Black if you come to Hakuba.
- Dave (10/5): - Loved the restaurant, great service in the morning for breakfast!
The Onsen was a nice benefit and usually empty.
Very helpful staff!
- Morgan (6/5): Was okay - Staff were friendly, breakfast buffet was small but okay. Rooms were a good size but I wasn’t really happy with the room cleaning. I stayed 5 nights and my sheets weren’t changed once. That would normally be okay except my partner had an unexpected nosebleed and got a little bit of blood on our doona and it sat there for 5 nights. When our room would get ‘made up’ the staff would just reposition the doona, where they would clearly see the blood, instead of changing it. It was just a bit gross and for the price per night I had hoped they’d change it. Also our room was only vacuumed once our whole stay. It just left me feeling disappointed, I really enjoy a clean room and I splurged with this hotel. I don’t think I’d stay here again.
- Alan (6/5): - The Onsen and restraunt was not in operation. The breakfast was minimal . The staff tried their best but it felt really like end of season. Dispite that some of the staff were wonderful and made the trip. Room very small.
- John (10/5): - A lovely place to stay with really friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay at the Double Black. I think the best thing about it is the staff who couldn't have been more helpful or more friendly - there was nothing they wouldn't do for us, driving us around and knocking on my sick son's door during the day. The hotel has a nice atmosphere and a good vibe in the bar in the evening and the food in the restaurant is fabulous. Would definitely go back!
