Guest Reviews

- ANDRES MAURICIO (9/5): Todo bien - La cercanía a la playa En realidad estuvo muy bien
- Ana (7/5): -
- Alexandra (10/5): - 3 min from the beach ! And the hosts are amazingly nice and helpful!!
- Duygu (10/5): Everything was great , felt like home, 10/10 !! - - The location was perfect: 2-5 minutes from the stunning beach, bars, supermarkets, restaurants and bank…
- Very comfortable beds.
- Excellent Free Wifi Connection.
- Superclean bedroom, livingroom, kitchen with utilities, bathroom and toilet.
- Hot water for shower available at all times + towels provided.
- I felt very welcome by the lovely hosts Valentina & Andrew.
- Quiet and peacefull area for a goodnight rest.
- Lovely Garden. Everything was great!
- Nikoloz (10/5): - Best experience
I travel lot and first time I met so friendly hosts.
Very clean and nearby beach and restorants.
Best vibe, Super I am so happy.
- Christine (3/5): Money hungry owners for whom you are an inconvenience. - They were helpful in advising onward travel. I felt like an intruder in their small apartment; too many rules and regulations; unable to use the oven; no microwave available; not allowed to cook after 8 o’clock; not allowed to cook meat; not allowed to cook fish; not allowed to leave any luggage; no answers provided when I asked questions (eg. is this an AirBnB with no one living on the premises); the automatic light in the bathroom went off 3 times while I was in the middle of a shower at 10 pm at night; I had to wait for the previous person to finish showering that’s why it was 10pm (they later advised they reduce the length of power in the bathroom and the sensor doesn’t work in the shower area); the fridge smelt of fruit which had gone off so I did not use the fridge; curfew from 9pm; noise prohibited; security deposit of US$30; I’m not sure they should call this a hostel – hostels make people feel welcome – they just want money for every little extra they can dream up (early checkin from 11am cost US$15 extra because I couldn’t drop my luggage off – I paid this money by transfer before I arrived – when I wasn’t there at 11am they contacted me to see where I was; I arrived about 11.20am; (obviously an inconvenience for them) they have payment in advance so I suppose it doesn’t matter if they don’t answer questions. All in All a terrible experience.
These use cheap local buses for tours - not the expected 40 seater standard buses.
- Lukas (10/5): -
- L (8/5): i was generally quite happy with the place and the people i met there. - i appreciated the cleanliness and kindness of the hosts. i would have liked to make tea a little earlier that the kitchen allowed, say 730am.
the bed was comfortable for me but the large men who slept on the top bunk did not seem comfortable and this impacted the whole bunk as it moved with their every move. it would have felt better to have a more sturdy bunkbed.
- Terri (8/5): - I like how detail oriented the host is. there really needs to be some air flow in the room. It was extremely hot with no air flow.
- Victoria (5/5): Hostel is ok but seriously overrated and overpriced - - If you need to leave your luggage after check out time (11 am) they will allow it (charging you by the hour)
- Location was good
- Bathrooms were clean - No good price-quality ratio (Overpriced for what it is)
- If you ever arrive before the check-in time (3PM) they will NOT allow you to leave your stuff in there.
- Small beds (anyone above 1,70m would struggle to fit) and uncomfortable pillow,
- No drinkable water is provided
- Common area is very lacking
- Khou Héliéna (10/5): - Me and my boydriend had an amazing stay at Gava hostel. The location is perfect if you want to enjoy the beach and relaxe. There are a lot of restaurants and options to eat. If you didn't plan anything, it will be fine, Valentina is here for you and you can book tours to explore outside of Punta Cana. I highly recommand Gava !
- Abdelali (10/5): -
- Corinne (6/5): - This is a great little hostel/homestay with access to anything you may need. Great option for backpackers visiting Punta Cana. The use of the kitchen has restricted hours so if you were getting up early you couldn't make yourself a cup of coffee. I was also surprised to see the additional charges for things like leaving your bag. That should be free unless you're leaving it overnight. Otherwise, it was great.
- Carlos (10/5): i loved it. - I love the hospitality and the way the hosts went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable! The place was close to the beach and close to very nice restaurants. And the day it is a dream place if you're coming close to the beach. The host also went above and beyond to give me a really good service and deal with the excursions! After looking around I can say is there a price is one of the best and super reliable! If I come back to Dominican Republic a hostel is definitely one of my favourite spots to stay. Small but charming! Is the exact street of the hostel is a little bit difficult to find because there is construction. But once found it is simple
- YUKA (10/5): At home resort - Felt like home and the room was very tidy.
So close to the beach.
- P. Kenneth (8/5): -
- Raul (10/5): Zen - Clean , quiet and peaceful
- Gennaro (9/5): Superb -
- Fabienne (10/5): Exceptional - Location is great just a few steps away from the beach. Hosts are very friendly and helpful and helped giving me directions, tips and set up tours.
The place is clean and feels more like a home stay. Kitchen cannot be used freely but that's not a deal breaker
- Nergiz (8/5): Very good -
- Matea (8/5): Very good - Really good location. In the room were only young gilrs like myself so I felt safe in the dorm-room. There was a cockroach in our room - but that is very common in the central america so I don’t blame the hostel.
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - Valentina was a super host very helpful, nice and friendly
- Sedigheh (10/5): Exceptional - Great location! Feels like a home. Andrew and Valentino are perfect people and they take care of us like their children. Amazing experience.
- Yasmine (9/5): Comfortable place to stay in Punta Cana - Prefect location, close to the beach, the staff is very friendly, it’s clean Little bit complicated to find the location of the hostel
- Lachowski (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lachowski (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dragan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent accommodation, very clean and tidy. Valentina and Andrew are wonderful people, always there for you, for all information, and you can see that they do this with love. Through them, I also took excursions, a transfer from the airport, and they also offer a local SIM card for the Internet. They speak English Spanish and Russian which is rare here, hardly anyone speaks English here. Location 3 minutes from the beach, 3 minutes from the supermarket where you can buy by card. Complete kitchen available if you want to prepare breakfast or something to eat. There is no noise from nearby cafes and traffic because the building is hidden by two large buildings, which gives you peace and quiet during the night. The beds are wide and comfortable, and the atmosphere is like you are at home. All recommendations for this nice place.
- Albertas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mfp (8/5): Very good - The owners are so kind and helpful! The general area of Bávolo. A resort-town where basically everything is overpriced.
- Andreas (8/5): Good value for money. - 4 bds only in the bedroom, good bed. Good people. Good value for money. Needs more maintenance and more cleanliness.
- Dominik (8/5): Very good - The vibe in the Hostel was really good, the owner are really friendly and helpful in every situation!
Thanks a lot
- Raghu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Franco (10/5): Great stay at meters from the beach - The stuff is super friendly, kind and helpful. The location is great just meters from the beach and with markets around the corner. The hostel is very clean and has everything that you might need. I recommend doing the Saona tour, is awesome! Nothing I can think of.
- Amanda (10/5): Felt like home. Amazing Hostel. - It is clean, comfortable and feels like a home.
- Gloria (8/5): Small guesthouse close to the beach - The location is good and it’s possible to use the kitchen. There is only one mixed dormitory with not much space for belongings. It would be great if the bunk beds had kind of curtains, for a minimum of privacy. It’s not allowed to drink water in the room (?!)
- Verified traveler (8/5): Positive experience! - Valentina and Andrey are the greatest hosts. They are very caring and always make sure you’re comfortable and taken care of.
The hostal is located in a convenient area that’s walking distance to the beach, markets and restaurants.
The place has established pretty clear and reasonable rules that ensure the cohabitation with other guests is harmonic and respectful.
Just be aware that specific spot of Punta Cana is slowly developing and there is a lot of construction sites in the surroundings areas making it look a bit sketchy and inconvenient to walk after rainy days. That’d be the only down side.
Overall a positive experience!
- Adam (10/5): I had a great stay, very friendly and welcoming owners and a very clean and comfortable stay. - The owners are amazing and friendly people and very helpful. They arranged transportation multiple times and were overall really great to communicate with and are lovely people. The hostel itself was very clean and comfortable and had a very welcoming atmosphere. The location is a little hidden and the roads in the surrounding area are not very good.
- Diana (10/5): Excellent place - The host is simply the best and the place is very very clean You can't use tap water to cook you have to buy nways it's for your own good
- Kavish (10/5): Exceptional - Andrey and Valentina are lovely hosts who I had some great chats with and they helped organise and arrange everything. Hostel is close to the beach, nice kitchen and the place is clean.
Espero volver pronto.
- Declan (10/5): - Had such a great time at Gava! Valentina and Andrew were both so sweet, and they gave me such great tips for what to do and where to go. The hostel was very clean; you can tell they put a lot of effort into keeping the area tidy! The hostel itself is basically a room off of the main apartment with 4 beds in it, and all common spaces (kitchen, living room, bathrooms, etc.) are shared, which is great for connecting with new people. Individual lockers are available for keeping valuables stored, which was great. Would definitely return!
- Nicholas (10/5): - I had an absolute great time at Gava! Valentina and Andrew were very warm and welcoming hosts, and their hostel is quite cute. Strongly recommend staying here, especially since it’s so conveniently located next to the beach.
- Catherine (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, steps away from places to grab food and 4 minute walk to the beach so you can save on transportation costs. One of the cleanest guesthouses I've stayed in. The host was very cordial and I appreciated the ability to check in early to use the excellent WiFi connection. I would love to stay here again if I am back in Punta Cana on a solo trip. Can't think of anything!
- Laura (10/5): - I want to thank Gava Homestel because they treated me so nice. I felt very safe and comfortable. The location was amazing and if i had to visit again Punta Cana, i would choose this homstel 100 times.
- Andree02 (10/5): Exceptional - Vale and Andrew are amazing!
The house is very welcoming and you'll feel home.
There's everything you need.
The area is plenty of restaurants and there's a supermarket too.
I recommend booking the Excursions with them
- Aishatou (10/5): Great location and great price - Very clean and friendly hosts, great location near to the beach -
- Edier (8/5): Good for meeting other travellers, would stay here again, very nice and attentive hosts - Valentina and her partner are one of the best host for accommodation I had. Communication before checking was good, they always want to make sure that you are ok during the visit the country, they gave good tips for travelling around, shops supermarkets and affordable restaurants. On arrival Valentina advised very well on excursions, surroundings, things to do, I was so glad that I booked my excursions with them as they know the best companies at good price and is fun to go with other people who are also staying at GAVA Hostel, I strongly recommend booking all the excursions with them. The accommodation itself is a small flat, very cosy and easy to meet other travellers, kitchen with all you need, toilet and a good size bathroom, nice front garden, beds where comfortable, clean, the whole flat was plotless clean, the room was small but enough for 4 people, fans where provided, quiet to sleep at night, beach 5-10 minutes walk with nice disco bar. I asked for a lower bunk bed and was reserved by them, anything that they can do, to make your stay more comfortable they will do it, they asked If I needed anything during my stay to let them know, shower towels provided. Good location near the beach, near supermarkets and shops. I would stay here again if I come back to Punta Cana, affordable price for the area. No AC in the room, although fans are provided, not much negative feedback apart from that, they are super nice people.
- Coddiwomple (10/5): WHÁT a GREAT Hostel !!!!! - WOW !!!.... Just....WOW !!!!
.
I've stayed at many hostels during all my travels, most of them Great !!
But the personal attention and commitment shown by the 2 owners to ensure that my (and other guests') stay, tours and whatever more were met is of an exceptionally high level !!!
It's a small hostel, which absolutely has its charms and the location near:
* For me one of thé most picturesque palm tree filled beaches I've ever seen - only a 5 min. walk
* Various super markets (closest = 3min. Walk, furthest = 7 min. Walk)
* Various very affordable bars not only in town centre, but even better on that pristine beach within mentioned walking distances in a very safe area. No problem to walk alone around at night)
I booked all my tours through GAVA and they even were so committed that they both walked me (and on other days the other hostel guests) to the early 6:30-tour pick-up location to be sure I got on the right bus !!! (I mean...just WOW !!)
Additionally they were very eager to hear the experiences of the tour, so - if necessary - they could improve quality, expectation, service, etc. (....Just WOW !!)
GAVA really thought of practical things such as that:
* EVERY bed has an electrical socket prepared for most INTERNATIONAL plugs AND 2 USB-ports.
* Easy and trustworthy lockers for personal items it's with their key, so you don't have to buy a padlock or something.
* Beds AND cushions are very comfy. In fact...the moment you lay down, not sleeping is just NOT possible.
* Even though the room sleeps 4, the wooden bunkbeds were of such good quality they make absolutely no sound and do no wobble when somebody gets in / out of bed so the others don't get woken up unnecessarily !!
* Hostel is exceptionally clean and the owners make sure it stays that way !!
Every time I came back from staying elsewhere in Dom Rep, there was only one place I wanted to go back to....GAVA !! Absolutely nothing NOT to like.....Just GREAT place
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Thanks for everything, the best service ever
- Michael (10/5): - Gava hostel was great! They were so friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend!
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Maria (10/5): relax - very homie, friendly quiet and clean everything was fine
- Claudia (10/5): cozy and clean small hostel - lovely place and the hosts were very very nice. It’s small hostel for honestly has all you need. I will definitely recommend this place. Also the location is great yo have the beach very near as well as restaurants and markets it was kind of hard to identify, the thing is that is located in a building but only one apartment is the hostel so that was kind of hard to find out
- Joke (8/5): Very good - Really close to the beach! And very friendly hosts! Wasn't big room for 4 guests, luckily we were there only 3 and 2 guests per night.
- Nora (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (9/5): Gava is peaceful and the hosts, Andrey & Valentine are respectful, friendly and communicative. - Gava Hostel is conveniently located, centrally, between the ocean, restaurants and local tourist shopping, a short distance walk from each. Currency exchange from American dollars to Dominican Pesos is available nearby. Businesses accept both currencies. However, using Pesos provides a better deal. Fellow travelers who leave worn clothing on the floor makes it difficult for hosts to clean the room and laundry is an eyesore. When the room was humid and minimally aerated, I became sick from a fellow traveler who was sick. Fans and keeping the door and windows open helped. For longer than 1 week stay, it would be great to have a scheduled 1 day shopping excursion or more information about local big grocery store shopping and transit.
- Brian (8/5): Very good -
- Carina (8/5): Very good -
- Nadezhda (1/5): Bad - There have beach around. The staff was very very rough, not helpful at all. The room is very small. The area is not nice at all, there is no nice place to go around, specially compared with other locations. The place is way way overpriced!!!
The place is not like a real hostel it’s like a room.
- Brigitte (9/5): An experiment - Andrew and Valentina open their house to you and really give you space. Thank you for allowing us to visit Punta Cana with a reasonable rate. 1 - The insistent flirting of the Dominicans. The worst of the Caribbean...
2 - Very rude airport staff !
- Ilse (8/5): everything fine :) - The hosts are the best <3 Superkind and helpfull A little hard to find the right entrance
- A great place to meet new travelers. Clean rooms and washrooms. A close walk to the Beach, mini markets, restaurants but not the clubs like the ones at Juntos Beber. Over all a good experience My bunk bed number 4 it was needs a new mattress. It sunk in the middle and accumulated moisture from my sweat quite rapidly and hence I had to shift around to maintain some semblance of dryness. I was able to sleep well despite the over used mattress.
- Anton (10/5): - This is a great place near the beach. Nice little hostel, clean and cozy, helpful staff. Thanks!
- Harolyn (10/5): Would definitely recommend! - Such a lovely stay, so well attended to. A great location right by the beach and near town, met some really lovely people.
- Andrew (10/5): - GAVA is the best hostel I've ever been! Great staff, they are always happy to help, the hostel is very clean and safe. My vacation was great from the moment
arriving at Punta Cana airport, because GAVA organized a transfer for me to the hostel, at the airport I was met by a personal driver with a sign with my name. When I arrived at the hostel, during check-in, I was able to buy an excursion to Samana to see whales, and the next day I went on an excursion in the morning, and spent my first day in the Dominican Republic unforgettably, I visited a private island, saw a waterfall in the jungle, and most importantly, I caught the whales. Thank you guys for recommending me to go on this excursion. I recommend GAVA to everyone, and I will definitely come back here again! Until next time!
- Maria (10/5): The coziest place in punta cana - That's more a family house than a proper hostel because it's an apartment. However, it's the coziest place in Punta Cana! The owners are a young, lovely and friendly couple from Russia. Very nice people that made us feel at home.
The room is small but with everything that you will need. There are 2 bunk beds, comfortable mattress with light white curtains in each bed and also private light and plug to charge your phone. Each person has a small locker but also a big wardrobe where can keep your luggage. There are also a big mirror in the room and 2 fans. The restroom is just next door with good size. They provide one tower for no extra cost. They also provided a hairdryer if needed. The kitchen is small but you can find everything you need to prepare your meals. The only thing that was missing was a filter, so was necessary to buy a bottle of water.
The building is simple but in a great location, few blocks from the beach (kind of 5/10min walking). Its a safe neighbourhood. Many restaurants, grocery stores, and everything that you need. The excursions also pick you up like 5 min from there, so Gava hostel is in a perfect location.
The beach in that area (Bavaro) is beautiful, with some tourists but not extremely crowded. Blue and clear water.
Valentina and Andrew are amazing!! They were always very helpful with everything that we needed. They also sell tours and help us with all information about where to go. I feel I was lucky and gain new friends for life!
- Janine (10/5): Muito bom!
- Nicola (10/5): Amazing location and friendly enviroment - It's very clean and well organized, the owners are amazing and welcoming, you can ask them for anything and they will help you. Fun and relax it's easy to find.
