Guest Reviews
- Genevieve (10/5): Relaxing oasis in Kyoto - We loved being able to stay in a fixed up unit. Best part was private onsen. Only things missing were an ice cube tray and a plug in fan for upstairs.
- Giacomo (9/5): - Cool looking Machiya and nice hot bath in the backyard They told us this in advance, but the light and sound protection isn't amazing since it is an old style house
- Nicholas (10/5): Traditional and professional - Check-in and luggage drop off a short walk from Kyoto station made it easy to arrive in the city early and start exploring. House was clean and well equipped.
I was contacted via the booking.com chat messaging by the hotel because I had apparently booked something that wasn't actually available on the hotels internal system. I was swapped from the house I booked to a different one that was available, and everything worked out smoothly so communication was very good.
Photos are of one of their other properties called
"Rinn Kiyomizu Gojo Machiya - 鈴 清水五条町家" Is a bit weird that I was able to book something that wasn't technically available on their end. Otherwise it was all really good.
- Mark (10/5): - The taxi to the property after key collection.
Quiet neighbourhood
Helpful staff at main reception
Own onsen bath was amazing
- Matis (10/5): -
- Schwartz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (9/5): Beautiful Japanese house - This place is beautiful and really cool. It felt really authentic, plenty of space, really lovely apartment. The outdoor bath is really beautiful (we just got a bit confused with the instructions and couldn’t work out how to turn it off - likely user error lol). The location is a little bit removed from the main areas for restaurants etc. we would have preferred to be more central, but Japan is super easy to get around via train so it was okay. It was a walk from the main station for the airport, so that was convenient. Some clearer instruction for the bath would also help :)
- Ekaterina (10/5): Exceptional - Very relaxing, atmospheric and immersive. The outdoor bathtub was something very important to me and I enjoyed it a lot, the futon-style beds were comfortable and the tatami very beautiful. There is a possibility of seeing cobwebs or dust around the corners, it didn't bother me as it was an old house.
- Lili (8/5): Very good - Location; Quite; Reasonable price. It's a bit of cold on the first floor even with AC.
- Anne (10/5): Amazing - The open air bath! It was wonderful!
- Pauliina (10/5): Lovely townhouse - We were very pleased with the house, it was cozy and had authentic Japanese feeling. Bath was great and we would love to come back! Bedroom wasn’t completely dark at night, so it’s good to have a sleeping mask.
- Vytautas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Filipa (8/5): Very good - The house was really nice, with the tub on the yard. very nice. the neighbourhood was really peaceful. it was close to the center but not walking distance. the fact that they don't clean, for the total of 3 night that we stay in.
- Shuk (9/5): Superb -
- Joanna (9/5): Superb -
- Roger (8/5): Very good - Taxi to the door from reception made finding it easy on first day and took the hassle out of settling in. The layout of accommodation was traditional Japanese and inclusion of the onsen was a feature we loved.
- Julita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lukas (10/5): Exceptional - The Futons were cozy to sleep in and the private outdoor hotbath in the indoor garden was amazing. During check-in, the hotel offered a wide range of bath powders to at to the bath. The location was also really good, 15 min walk from Kyoto station but still in a quiet neighborhood.
- Lam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruobin (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - Perfect balance of traditional machida and functionality! Loved the rotenburo Maybe the steep stairs? But it’s really not a big deal. Plus, part of the tradition anw
- Anonymous (10/5): My husband and I are on our honeymoon and we did a day trip to Kyoto, this place was a perfect one night getaway - The outdoor bath was the main reason we booked and we wish we could have stayed longer! The stairs are very steep but it is a traditional style home so it was to be expected!
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional - A unique experience, unforgettable. On check in there are many extras you can pick up to take with you. Nothing. The stairs are steep and the futon is on the floor so it wouldn't be comfortable for someone with mobility issues
- Cip (6/5): Pleasant -
- Silvestre (10/5): Charming japanese small house with external bath - Japanese traditional style little house, very immersive into japanese culture. Small, charming and quiet street. The external bath was amazing to relax after a day full of visits. We really enjoyed our stay!!
- Emily-paris (8/5): Very good -
- Stella (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chun (9/5): Superb - The place is really nice and facilities are very good. If you plan to stay longer there is one coins laundry shop around 10 min walking distance.
- Alison (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sara (10/5): Exceptional - Cosy, well equipped and beautiful townhouse with private outdoor-onsen, located right next to Kyoto Station but super quiet neighborhood! -
- Dongwook (9/5): Just awesome. Especially the staff. They were incredibly accommodating. - Great location! I walked everywhere. I wish the place came with its own bath salts instead of having to take samples from the main hotel.
- Barbara (9/5): Loved it - I loved the outdoor bathtub. The reception desk even had bath salts that you could take back to your apartment with you. I also loved that they had an amenities counter so you can get little cups of shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. The apartment was so spacious compared to anywhere else I've stayed and the floor mattresses were comfortable. The hot water and pressure were really good. I didn't like that the restroom was always so cold. It was easily the coldest part of the apartment which is not nice when you have to partially undress.
- Khalid (10/5): Exceptional -
- Faviola (10/5): Exceptional -
- SATOSHI (10/5): - 宿の雰囲気や清潔感は良かったのですが、古民家故、朝から隣の家のシャッターを開ける音や販売機の音、人が通った時の話し声で目が覚めてしまいました。
- Lau (10/5): - Everything great, but low pressure of the bicycle tire.
