• Liga Grauze (10/5): - Our stay at these apartments was absolutely exceptional, and a huge part of that experience was thanks to the wonderful host, Maria. She is incredibly kind, thoughtful, and accommodating — truly one of the best hosts we have ever encountered. We had originally booked an apartment on an upper floor, but when Maria noticed my health issues, she kindly offered to move us to a lower floor to make things easier for us. This level of care and attention meant so much and made our stay far more comfortable. Maria also went out of her way to help us find a parking spot closer to the apartment, which was extremely helpful. On top of that, she shared fantastic recommendations for restaurants and local attractions, all of which turned out to be excellent. Her warmth, responsiveness, and genuine willingness to help made our visit unforgettable. We are deeply grateful — thank you so much, Maria! We would gladly stay here again and highly recommend these apartments to anyone looking for a truly welcoming and pleasant experience.

The apartment is on the 3rd floor – very clean, nicely decorated, and includes a small kitchenette with a coffee machine, kettle, and fridge, plus tea and coffee capsules. Neben einer kleinen Führung durch das Apartment hat sie uns mit frischen Rosen und köstlichen Erdbeertörtchen überrascht und gab uns hilfreiche Tipps zu Restaurants, Bars, Stränden und Aktivitäten in der Umgebung. Das Apartment selbst ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet und der Ausblick über die Bucht – besonders bei Sonnenaufgang – war einfach traumhaft. Our host Maria was very helpful and the location was perfect. We don’t normally spend time in our room but we did at this place on the balcony overlooking the lake and harbour.

La grande porta a vetro che da accesso al balcone presente in camera da letto sembra essere un quadro dipinto a mano da cui è semplicemente impossibile distogliere lo sguardo. L'appartamento risulta inoltre essere molto pulito, ben arredato e funzionale, la gentilezza e l'ospitalità della proprietaria sono state superlative!! Tutto ok!!

The apartment is beautiful, Maria is the best host one could imagine and the stunning view is indeed the best in Agios Nikolaos. But what stole my heart were the little touches: herbs on both balconies that smelled amazing (and you could snatch a leaf of mint to flavour your water) or the fact that the shampoo and shower gel, rather than the usual cheap hotel thing, were a local organic brand (and excellent). Will definately go back! From my point of view everything was great, but the specific apartment I stayed in (top floor) would not be appropriate for people with reduced mobility or disability (stairs).

Η ιδιοκτήτρια πολύ ευγενική και πρόθυμη να βοηθήσει. Το κοντινότερο πάρκινγκ μόλις λίγα μέτρα είναι το 1ο γυμνάσιο Αγίου Νικολάου ( το καλοκαίρι το προαύλιο μετατρέπεται σε δωρεάν δημόσιο πάρκινγκ). Κάναμε την καλύτερη επιλογή!

• Gronings Expat (10/5): Stunning views and heartfelt hospitality - Emerald Lake Studios is a true gem. The top-floor apartment may be the smallest in the building, but the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a breathtaking view and a beautifully renovated, tastefully furnished space. It has two balconies, perfect for soaking in the scenery, and the cutest tiny kitchen — complete with a fridge stocked with water and a Nespresso machine with coffee cups. Our hostess, Maria, made the stay extra special. Warm and welcoming, she used to live here as a child, and you can feel the love she’s put into the place. She greeted us with a fruit basket, provided aromatic shower supplies in the lovely tiled bathroom, and shared great tips for restaurants and excursions. There’s even a 15% discount for a great breakfast spot nearby. Daily cleaning keeps everything spotless, and when it was time to leave, I received a thoughtful gift (I won’t spoil the surprise — you’ll just have to find out yourself!). All in all, Emerald Lake Studios combines incredible views, charming comfort, and genuine hospitality — a place you’ll remember long after your trip. PS: If you come by car there is free parking in the streets. During summer holidays the nearby school opens its school yard as a parking, also no charge (which would be a good idea, if that earns a school some money).

She waited to personally meet us, kept us a place for a car in front of the building, greeted us with nothing but a smile. Gave us tips of restaurant (ate only in those the whole time and all were AMAZING), gave us tips on trips and what to see around during our stay. The room is everything you are looking for and felt super comfy. thought of all the smallest details. And the view is the cherry on top, spent all our evenings in the balcony. This apartment is very well equipped, super clean, in a wonderful location in the very centre and with a stunning view on the lake (in the morning, you can see a beautiful sunrise from the big terrace). The owner, Maria, was a wonderful host. She gave us plenty of suggestions and itineraries to discover beautiful beaches around Agios Nikolaos and the east/south of Crete. We were there during Easter and were able to experience the Saturday night pageantry from our balcony. Maria made it extra special for us and let us know when things would happen. She also gave us great tips for things to do in the area. The kitchenette was great for having breakfast and coffee. You need to be mobile as there are stairs to the apartment.

Despite our very late arrival, Maria greeted us with genuine smiles, a home-cooked dinner, a bottle of wine, and thoughtful breakfast supplies to get us started the next morning. It was such a generous and heartwarming welcome after a long journey. The room itself was perfectly cosy and comfortable, but the view—oh, the view! It felt like we were floating right on the lake. The peacefulness, the colours, the stillness—it was absolutely mesmerising. I honestly don’t think you could find a better outlook anywhere in Agios Nikolaos. Maria consistently checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. She shared fantastic local recommendations, from hidden gems to must-visit spots, and even made restaurant reservations on our behalf. Her kindness and attention to detail made all the difference. We were lucky enough to be there over the Easter weekend and got to witness the local Easter celebrations from our balcony—a spiritual and unforgettable experience that gave us such a deep connection to the place and its people. Leaving was the hardest part. If you have the chance, definitely book the top floor room—it’s worth every moment. We can’t recommend this beautiful place, or Maria’s incredible hospitality, highly enough. Ps: book the restaurant next door - it’s amazing too!

The location was the best in Agios Nikolous. We have stayed in many VRBO’s and Maria is one of the best hostesses we have ever had. She saved a parking place for our arrival. She set up a taxi for a day trip and arranged our transport to the airport. She even came in on a Sunday morning to see us off. It was perfect, the location was magical.

Wonderful friendly and informative host (MARIA) who met us at arrival and gave us the keys and information about restaurants and things in the area. Place is a coffee machine with Illy pods, a sink and a back deck to hang wet towels. Great view over the lake with chairs. A great place to hang out. Nice decor and clean. Clean washroom. Parking for the car was by the free PORT parking lot which was a short 8 minute walk with suitcases. Not a problem at all. Shower was good with lots of hot water. Good bed, bedding and towels. Plenty of room to put your things, Lots of coffee options around. Avoid the restaurants located right on the lake as they are too expensive for what you get and there are many other much better places to eat and have drinks nearby. Do some research and support othe rlocal places. The food is always better and it is less expensive, Everything was great! Nothing to say. Everything was fine.

L'appartement était très confortable avec une vue de rêve; le lit de très bonne qualité, sur les photos on voit un lit double composé de deux lits simples mais en réalité il y a un sur matelas pour ceux qui comme moi n'aiment pas la separation entre les deux lits; coin cuisine pas sur les photos avec frigo, cafetière nespresso, théière, tasses, verres. Nous sommes restés deux nuits et le nettoyage a été fait après notre première nuit. L'emplacement est idéal, proche de vraiment tout, plein de restaurant et magasins aux alentours, d'ailleurs le petit magasin du même immeuble est géré par le frère et la belle soeur de Maria, il y a de très jolis accessoires. • Franklin (10/5): Top floor delight - The top floor apartment has an excellent aspect. It is light and airy and pleasingly decorated, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There was nothing negative to say except perhaps if you had mobility problems climbing many stairs might be a problem with luggage. Absolutely worth the climb once at the top.
• Judy (10/5): Great place by the lake. - Amazing location, kind / helpful host and very comfortable room. We had incredible views of the lake with the Easter festivities and fireworks. Nothing. We had a perfect stay. Only suggestion for improvement would be to have some paper towels or napkins.
• Susan (9/5): Lovely apartment! - Our host Maria was super helpful and gave us lots of tips for our stay. She met us on arrival and even got a parking space for us! The apartment was lovely and we had a great view from the balcony. The town was maybe not quite as nice as some of the other places we stayed in Crete but it wasn’t fully up and running yet for the season so that might have been a factor. However there are lots of really nice places to visit nearby if you have a car. There was a fabulous restaurant 2 minutes walk away from the apartment called To Potiraki with great food reasonably priced.

• Bob (9/5): Superb - Location could not be better. Excellent view of the lake from the balcony. Very kind host. A good breakfast can be had at a nearby cafe at an attractive discount. Just be aware that the apartment only has a very small kitchen (kitchenette) with limited facilities. Given all the nice restaurants nearby, for most people this should however not be an issue!

• Paul (10/5): Superb apartment, quiet despite central location - Excellent location right in the centre of town with a superb view over the lake, but the apartment was quiet and we slept well. Maria was very friendly and informative. Ours was the lowest apartment but still quite high up (above a shop and Maria's office). Entry from a busy street but the balcony view was on the other side over the lake with very little road noise. We knew there was no lift, only narrow stairs so that was not a problem for us but it could be a problem if you cannot carry suitcases up stairs.

• Eleni (10/5): Excellent room, location, and hostess! - This cute and cozy apartment was a great size, with one balcony facing the lively (but not too loud) city street and another facing the beautiful lake and its surrounding restaurants/hotels/shops. It was in an excellent location, just steps away from the closest restaurants, a few minutes from shops, and a few more minutes to the beach. Maria was an excellent hostess that went above and beyond. She took the time to familiarize us to the area and recommend her favorite nearby restaurants and beaches. She always asked us how things were going whenever we saw her and offered assistance as needed. I even asked her about nearby parking, and she saved us a spot right in front of the building upon our arrival! It was not expected but very greatly appreciated. We can’t wait to come back again, hopefully soon! Ευχαριστούμε Μαρία!

My husband and I appreciated being near restaurants, shopping and beaches. The owner was extremelely kind, attentive and responsive. We also appreciated the restaurant the hotel had a partnership with to offer breakfast at a discount. The breakfast was amazing! There was no AC in the other rooms asidedron the bedroom. That made going to the bathroom very uncomfortable considering the season. Bathroom rug seems very old and dirty.

Not only was it very comfortable, with all the modern amenities but it was also very nicely decorated. The landlady is very helpful and very welcoming, full of all sorts of attention (coffee and tea, fresh fruit, high quality products in the bathroom). Nothing! I was just sorry that I was there for one night only! I wish I had stayed longer!

• Ian (10/5): Exceptional - The room was spacious, perfectly located with a spectacular view of the lake. Some residents double locked the main door which meant you could not open the door without using a key. In the event of a fire you would need to find your key before trying to escape.

• Steve (10/5): A very nice relaxing holiday at the Emerald Lake Studios, great accommodation with fantastic views! - Maria was a fantastic host, she organized our taxis to and from the airport, she recommended all the best places to eat and visit and was very helpful and pleasant. At the time of our visit, two of the accommodations weren't booked and Maria gave us the choice of the top floor studio, which we had originally booked, or the lower larger apartment with less stairs to climb and more room, this should have been more expensive but Maria let us choose this one at no extra cost, which was very generous and thoughtful of her (we are getting on a bit now!), there was also a bottle of wine and a bowl of fruit. On the day home our flight was at 22.15, an awkward time with the worry of suitcases and lots of time to kill with nowhere to rest, freshen up or use the toilet, but because it was early in the season, Maria was able and kind enough to let us stay until we left for the airport. Emerald Lake Studios is in a fantastic location, right in the centre of town but peaceful and tranquil. The apartment was lovely and clean, the shower always nice and hot and the panoramic views from the balcony were exceptional, we will have happy memories of sitting in the evening with a glass of wine and watching life go on around us in Agios Nikolaos. The weather was kind to us for early in the season, not too hot, we had an electric storm one evening and had a mind blowing birds eye view of Zeus throwing his lightning bolts around the night sky. There is a little beach nearby (Ammos Beach) which is about 5 or 10 minute walk from the Emerald Lake Studios, a lovely golden sand beach with hardly any waves and is ideal for families with children, my wife visited everyday for a swim. I don't think that we could have stayed anywhere better than this accommodation in Agios Nikolaos and we certainly couldn't have had a nicer host, so thank you so much Maria, we hope to see you again and would love to visit Emerald Lake Studios once more at sometime in the future. Highly recommended!! Nothing to dislike. A great place to stay.

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodations, the comfortable bed and the exceptional service we got from Maria. Can’t ask for better. Even if the property is centrally located, it is still very quiet. Some reviews have mentioned the stairs as being a challenge, I have to say that it was not an issue for us being on the 3rd floor. A bit tricky with luggages but otherwise ok. As stated in a previous comment, Maria made certain to reserve a parking for us on day one of four. After that, we were able to find parking in walking proximity to the accommodations. It is a very safe place to walk the streets at all hours of the day.. None
