- Ruben (5/5): Subpar price to quality ratio - Beautiful traditional building with good location, nice bedroom and access to onsens Despite the positives of this hotel, our feeling walking away is that it is overpriced for the services you get. We had an included breakfast, which the website indicated would include coffee, but when we asked for a cup of coffee the staff indicated that it was 550 yen per cup. When we showed them the information we received, they apologised for the mistake but still didn't agree to providing the coffee without the extra fee. It might seem like a minor point, but for a hotel at this price point, we were quite disappointed. Overall, our stay was okay (we knew the building was old and not very soundproof and that the traditional bed might be a little hard for our habits, so that didn't bother us), but we were left with a disappointed feeling in comparison to the exceptional level of service we have received at other ryokans we stayed in at a (sometimes much) lower price point.
- Tersia (10/5): Beautiful Traditional hotel with lovely staff - An absolutely gorgeous old traditional building set between a green forested mountain, a huge roaring river and a busy road. The room was beautiful, the onsen were even better, I was blown away and didn’t leave the hotel for 24hours. The staff were also excellent. Very sad to say the busy road. Clearly, these beautiful old buildings were there long before the road got busy. It didn’t stop me from sleeping well. I still highly recommend this hotel. Don’t miss out on the Onsen at the main building which overlooks the forest and river

- Callum (10/5): Lovely - It was a beautiful ryokan. The onsen is beautiful as well. Breakfast was tasty and the staff couldn’t be anymore better. They were all great and so polite. No fault of their own as it is a traditional property. But the walls are super thin so you can hear traffic.
- Romain (10/5): EXCEPTIONAL - An excellent place to stay, I recommend it to all of the tourist who came to Hakone for 1 or 2 weeks to see Mt Fuji
- Erica Mae (9/5): Overall, my stay was relaxing and I would recommend this inn to other solo travelers. - I enjoyed the cleanliness and the ambience of the accommodation. The bus stop was right in front of the inn, which made it easy and efficient to go around Hakone by public transportation. I also liked that they provided traditional robes and free amenities for the public bath! My only complaint about my stay was the food provided during breakfast, which seemed like food that was frozen and was easily microwaved/heated up. At the time of my stay, it seemed that there was only one employee on the premise and I was one of the only guests checked in, so I understand that there may have been limits to more elaborate meals.

- Moira (4/5): Decepcionante - Puedes ir al edificio principal a usar las piscinas de allá. La ubicación, es cerca de Hakone Yumoto y tiene un paradero justo fuera del hotel. Aceptan tatuajes. El personal es más bien frío, las instalaciones se sienten básicas, la cama era incómoda (colchón muy delgado!) y el desayuno fue una decepción total (un plato básico con sopa y pan, ni un té o café). La habitación daba a la calle y los autos. No invita al relajo y comodidad propio de un onsen, la verdad me decepcionó. No volvería, elegiría otro lugar.

- Marco (8/5): Marvelous ryokan with onsen! - Beautiful ryokan with really good onsen. I stayed in the secondary building but they give you the possibility to visit the thermal baths in the main building which are more beautiful. I have always been alone in the onsen, and it was the beginning of april. The room was really traditional! It’s relatively near the train station, a little far from the lake (but there is a bus) I would have preferred a traditional breakfast instead of an American breakfast

- inyoung (9/5): - 위치가 버스정류장 바로 앞이어서 좋았음. 깨끗함, 객실이 많지않아서 조용하고 좋았음 아주 예쁜 료칸임 시설이 조금 불편한 점은 있었지만 허코네를 다시 여행하게 된다면 또 이용할 것 같음 위치안내가 도노사와역에서 가깝다고 되어있어서 기차로 이동했다가 캐리어 끌면서 산위에서부터 내려오느라 고생했음 반드시 하코네유모토역에서 버스로 이동해야함(바로앞이 버스정류정임) 객실에 화장실이 별도로 없어서 조금 불편했음 (단,층마다 화장실 있음) 노천탕을 가기위해서는 객실 옆 샤워실에서 샤워를 하고 이동해야하는 불편함도 있음

- Andrea (10/5): EL MEJOR HOTEL DE TODO MI VIAJE ! - INCREIBLE HOTEL! EL MEJOR DE MI VIAJE! una belleza, toda la experiencia de un Ryokan creo que es algo imperdible en tu viaje a japon. Es un hotel con muchisima historia, ademas de que tiene toda la experiencia Onsen, Sauna de piedras calientes .. ME ENCANTO!! No tiene el servicio de envio de maletas... esto en japon es una necesidad pues no puedes viajar con las maleta grandes en los trenes y servicios de transporte. Tuve que mandar las maletas desde un convinience store .. y que si bien es algo normal y muy confiable ... al ser un hotel tan bueno creo que debería de tenerlo

- Miho (10/5): - 別館に宿泊しました。朝食美味しかったですし、ダイニングからの眺めも良かったです。本館のお風呂も入りましたが、移動が寒いと、ちょっと気が引けましたが、雰囲気あって良かったです。露天風呂は、別館の方が個人的には良かったです。 有料バスの案内が曖昧だった事。市バスも走っていると、一言伝えてくれればもっと良かったです。ウォーターサーバーが設置されているのをチェックアウト前に気づきました。初めにご案内いただければなと思いました。

- Knezevic (8/5): Traditional relaxation - The Hotel is an old japanese style ryokan. Very traditional. There is a small onsen ladies and men separated outside. For the bigger onsen, you would have to walk down the street a few meters to reach the main building. There you can use the other facilites. Toilets are not avaliable in some rooms, we did not have one, but did not mind. Everything was clean. In generall it was a good stay, the staff was very nice. It is very noisy in the night since it is directly next to the street, since it’s a traditional rykoan. But the hotel offers free earplugs if needed.

- Maryn (10/5): Beautiful, peaceful, serene escape that blends traditional Japanese hospitality with modern luxury. - Our stay at this hotel in Hakone was absolutely unforgettable. The property itself is stunning, surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil river views that make you feel instantly relaxed. The design perfectly balances traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort. The onsen was a highlight, serene, beautifully maintained, and with both indoor and outdoor options that felt completely private. There were many choices between the outdoor onsen onsite at the inn, and the multiple indoor & outdoor onsens that are in the Kansuiro bath house, right next-door essentially connected to the inn. Soaking while surrounded by nature was the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. Our room was spacious, spotless, and incredibly comfortable. The private setting made it feel like our own little retreat, and we loved waking up to the sound of nature just outside the window. Every detail felt intentional, from the soft lighting to the high-quality linens and amenities. The staff were warm, attentive, and went out of their way to make our stay special, we felt truly cared for. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape that blends traditional Japanese hospitality with modern luxury, this Hakone gem is the perfect choice. No complaints!

- Rossella (9/5): Cute ryokan in Hakone - The rooms are amazing and the experience itself with the Yakama dressing and everything is really cool. Love also the onsen - really cleaned. Honestly I didn’t really get the comment about the noise of the road - my sleep is quite light and I couldn’t hear anything. It’s not that I didn’t like but more an heads up. They don’t serve dinner and there are no restaurants around you need to walk back to the city center (10/15 minutes) which is okay but I would prefer to know it before arriving at the facilities. Most of the baths are in the main building so you will have to walk from the hotel to the other facility and it’s a bit weird because you are wearing only your yakama and you are walking down the road 🤭 but maybe it’s me and I’m not used to!

- Frank (8/5): Puristisches Japan - Es ist ein klassisches Onsen. Das muss man wissen. Dh. Strenge Regeln, keine Schuhe im Haus und Toilette/ Dusche am Gang. Wenn man das weiß ist der Aufenthalt sehr angenehm. Vor dem Haus ist eine Bushaltestelle was Ausflüge erleichtert. Das Personal ist, wie sowieso in Japan, sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Die Umgebung das Onsens ist feucht. Daher ist es auch in diesem alten Haus immer etwas klamm. Aber für 2 oder 3 Tage ist das auszuhalten.

- Kathryn (10/5): A wonderful option for a relaxing stay! - I had such a wonderful stay! It's so peaceful and is just a few bus stops away from Hakone Yumoto. The staff was lovely, and the breakfast was really delicious each morning. You get full access to the "main" hotel's indoor and outdoor baths, although I found the outdoor women's bath at the annex to be the nicest of the options! The main hotel has a strange vibe, but the annex was super lovely. Thank you for a wonderful stay! I can't think of anything. Hakone has a surprising amount of traffic so if you're sensitive to that maybe request a non-street facing room. But I found just closing the sliding doors to be perfectly adequate for a peaceful sleep.

- Stephanie (4/5): - So this is an old hotel. Definitely needs renovation. I stayed with my fiancé and if he wasn’t there I wouldn’t have stayed at that hotel. I felt unsafe due to limited things being around the hotel and there was no staff after 8pm. We had to time to the buses because they came every 30 minutes . The taxis were expensive and limited. The hotel is on a main road so it’s noisy. The hot springs are in another building so you have to walk there. We walked there around 8pm and encountered many bugs and a snake. It was not a direct path and there was limited lighting as well. Also the main village is about a 10 minute walk so not much to do by the hotel. They don’t have dinner either.
- Kun (5/5): 本館をお勧めします。別館はお勧めできません。 - 宿の温泉は別館ではなく、本館を体験した方がいいと思うが、本館は使用停止は早いのでなるべく早く行ったほうがいい。別館はルームごとトイレはありません、温泉もしっかり洗えるところはなく、ただシャワー一個設置されていました。当時使用者が少ないのが原因かわかりませんが、酷い漂白剤の匂いがいしました。あげく温泉入ってもその匂いが消えませんし、これ温泉なのか、沸いたプールなのかわかりません。 本館と別館にかなりの差があると感じた。 外国人スタッフの指導が足りないと思う。 別に差別しているわけではありません。 ただ日本語で聞いてお客さんに意図を理解していないのに関わらず、勝手に理解していると思い込んで全然違った答えを出すのであれば、日本人スタッフに切り替えるとか、確認したらほうがいいと思います。
- Josh (8/5): חוויה נעימה, תמורה מצויינת למחיר - מקום חביב ונעים, שירות מצויין, שקט ואסתטי. המיקום נגיש באוטובוס מתחנת הרכבת, וגם ברגל, אם אין לכם מזוודה לקחת. ארוחת בוקר נחמדה מאד. תמורה מצויינת למחיר. הרכבת שנוסעת להרים נמצאת במרחק הליכה, אם כי כרוך בטיפוס. הייתי שם ביולי, היה חם מאד . החדרים ממוזגים היטב אבל המרחבים הציבוריים פחות. הקבלה סוגרת בשעות מוקדמות לטעמי.
- Tabea (10/5): Traditionelles Badehauserlebnis - Ich habe dort zwei Nächte verbracht, nachdem ich von einer Fuji-Tour zurückgekehrt bin und fand es extrem komfortabel. Besonders auch der Service. Meine Koffer und Sachen wurden sofort für mich hochgetragen und danach habe ich mich wie in einem traditionell eingerichteten Luxushotel gefühlt. Das i-Tüpfelchen war dann noch das Begrüßungsgetränk in Form eines kühlen Grüntees. Der Geruch nach Räucherstäbchen war auch sehr angenehm. Das Freiluftbad hatte ein gemütliches Ambiente. Und ich hatte es am ersten Tag völlig für mich allein. Auch der Garten hinter dem Sento ist eine Erkundung wert. Das Frühstück war auch in Ordnung. Ich hätte mir für ein Ryokan zwar lieber japanisches Frühstück statt westliche Kost gewünscht, aber sie war hochwertig zubereitet. Dass man jedes Mal das Zimmer verlassen musste, wenn es zur Toilette oder unter die Dusche ging. Aber vermutlich gehört das zum traditionellen Feeling dazu.

- Suphaphich (7/5): Good - I love the room and the onsen vibes. The place itself was perfect. You have multiple onsen options to choose from. For the price, there are some discomfort. Breakfast included was just fine. There's no info. provided for dinner places or combini nearby so best to eat before check in. The location is not that easy to access other restaurants, it took me 10 minutes to walk to another onsen nearby for dinner, but the walkway is super narrow while close to passing the car at night so it's a bit dangerous to walk in the dark. Lobby closes in the afternoon so it's not possible to leave luggage in the day of check out.

- Simon (8/5): En fantastisk Ryokan med några små minus. - Det här är en fantastisk Ryokan i en väldigt autentisk och trevlig miljö. De varma källorna är otroligt bra och personalen är trevlig och hjälpsam. Som andra noterat så är ljudet från vägen utanför ett störande moment, men det blir vitt brus till slut. Något andra recensioner inte pekat ut så mycket är att sängen är väldigt hård då det är en madrass ovanpå tatami-matta. Är du van vid en mjuk säng så kan detta vara en deal-breaker. Rummet i övrigt är stort och hotellet är väldigt vackert! Frukosten var godkänd.

- Rene (10/5): Exceptional - A truly wonderful stay in Hakone! We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. While the entrance for check-in was a bit tricky to find at first, the staff at the main building were incredibly helpful. The front desk didn't speak much English, but with a translation app, everything was easily manageable – and their kindness and hospitality were absolutely exceptional. The outdoor onsen is a dream come true, offering pure relaxation in a beautiful setting. The rooms are authentic, spacious, and full of charm. Highly recommended for an unforgettable Hakone experience!

- Fabian (4/5): Disappointing - The hotel was kind of nice, it was very clean! The location, not many restaurants you can choose from when it comes to lunch or dinner. Too far away from Hakone main attractions, you need to take a bus to get to them or a taxi. The breakfast was awful! They did not have any options and you basically need to eat what they serve. We ended up just eating the bread with coffee as we did not like what they had.

However, this hotel completely renovated and looks like brand new and very clean. The staff is kind and helpful. There is a bus stop to Odawara & lake in front of this hotel and it is convenient and perfect for sightseeing.

The staff were so friendly and attentive, the room was huge, spotless and traditional, and the onsen in the same and main buildings were clean, relaxing and beautiful. The location was perfect – we could walk from Hakone Yumoto station and there was a bus stop outside, although the bus was very busy depending on the time of day. I really wish we could have spent more nights there! Everything was great
