Evengoed heerlijke plek!
- JackieSt1763 (9/5): A Japanese experience - well worth a visit. - Very friendly and helpful staff. Used the Onsen which was lovely, the water was hot but so relaxing. Also had a set evening meal - bit more expensive but was a real experience - included wagu beef. Lots of different fishes and flavours.
Room was very traditional but slept well. We made the futon up but didn't realise there was a man who came to do this. Didn't see much of the town as we were passing through but flowering fruit trees were everywhere. Nothing

- Sonya (9/5): A relaxing and comfortable stay in a large tatami room - the outdoor rooftop bath was a highlight. - A very well located onsen hotel. We had a large and comfortable room with a nice view of the hotel garden and the mountains. The hotel has many nice touches, ikebana, artworks, garden as well as two baths - one on the rooftop which commands amazing views. The traditional breakfast was ample and tasty, free coffee was provided and the staff were very helpful. Many eating options within short walking distance. We only stayed one night but it was very relaxing and comfortable.
- Joshua (10/5): Exceptional - Clean facility, the room was big, and the food was good. The garden and koi pond were beautiful in the morning.
- Suzanne (10/5): This is a wonderful peaceful getaway. - We loved this getaway. It is a wonderful traditional onsen resort. The staff was amazing! When we came back from dinner, they had made up our futon beds and we were grateful because we are from Canada and we would not have known how to do it. Also, the breakfast was amazing! 10/10!! I have included a picture. Nothing. One thing that would be nice if they had instructions in English about the open air onsen. I knew there’s no shampoo up there so I brought my soap, etc, but I didn’t know how or where you are supposed to bathe before going in. So I didn’t use that onsen which was a little disappointing. I just went to the regular indoor onsen on the first floor. But it’s really my fault for not speaking Japanese.
- Spencer (10/5): Amazing place. Best stay ever - Lovely space and so many cool trinkets Had to pay for laundry
- Eriza (9/5): Superb -
- Rachanee (10/5): Exceptional - Good onsen
- Richard (9/5): The staff really seemed to care about making my stay as pleasant as possible. - Very spacious room, really helpful staff, amazing breakfast in a lovely setting and a good hot spring bath. Quite a distance from the station.
- Katie (4/5): Wish I hadn’t - The hotel clearly was once a beautiful place to stay in the Showa era. The rooms are huge, particularly by Japanese standards, and the two onsen are nice. The breakfast was quite good (I didn’t try dinner) and the dining room staff are great. The rooms are quite dated and very much showing their age: mould stains on the ceiling, tatami mats fraying or with large gaps underneath, the light switches are yellowed with age, the carpet on the stairs once was pink and now splotched with dark grey/black, stained furniture and blankets…
That I could overlook but the service made the experience that much worse. When I first checked in, there was no welcome greeting or smile- just “are you this person?” And keys were produced. No explanation of facilities, WiFi, hotel procedures, how to dial front desk…nothing. My room didn’t have hot water after 10 minutes of running the tap so I went down to the front desk. A man came up, stood in the bathroom for 10 minutes and kept saying it would come back on anytime. I asked for a new room or a place to shower and he just walked away. I understand there’s a language barrier so I used google translate with audio but he had trouble reading and hearing. He just didn’t want to speak with me so kept walking away. The next day, I spoke with another front desk member about the water. She checked and told me I would be moved to a new room- no apology or attempt to make it right (even chain hotels will offer a free drink or something?) she also told me all this over breakfast as I’m trying to eat and my food is getting cold…another staff member says they’ll make the bed for me in the new room. I come back at night and it’s not made- it’s a traditional Japanese futon so not sure how to make it myself. Back down to reception I go (because it appears you can’t dial down from your room). So if you stay, some tips:
- check the air conditioning works when you enter the unit and have the person showing the room turn it on. Mine didn’t work at first.
- check you have hot water
- you will pay a hot spring tax after your stay and it’s cash only
- leave your room key at the front desk when you leave for the day- you can’t take it with you
- Chang (8/5): Very good - good service and food and hot spring. the air condition in restaurant is hot
- Riska (8/5): It was a great experience for traditional Japanese ryokan - - The staff are very nice, they showed me around the hotel to show me the facilities that I could use. They also gave me a souvenir before I go. It’s a nice gesture.
- The onsen at the rooftop is amazing, I recommend going there at night especially in winter, you’ll get a very beautiful view of the stars and the icy mountain The amenities are very limited. Standard ones like shower and shampoo are of course available in every room, but for other amenities are very limited. They only have toothbrush + toothpaste, and small hairbrush. That’s it.
- Matthieu (8/5): Great ryokan that I wished we spent more time in ! - The ryokan is really traditionnal and super cool to sleep and have lunch in. The classic tatami rooms and onsens are a must ! It's a delight after a quite hike in the park to chill around in the facilities. There's even an onsen on the roof that we did not try because we checked in too late so we didn't get the info haha
Great surprise was also the adaptability to vegan travelers : they made us a fully vegan breakfast that was super good and filling so thanks for that ! Nothing to report
- William (8/5): Lovely Japanese ryokan - Lovely Japanese ryokan. The breakfast was served individually on trays. It seemed very traditional.
When we left the manger came out to wish us a good trip (we were on bicycles) and she gave us a lucky rabbit charm. It was very thoughtful. It was all fine
- Ooi (9/5): Superb -
- Atsuko (9/5): We had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay at Sakaeya Hotel. Thank you very much. - Roof top bath and breakfast.
Coffee at the ground floor lobby was lovely looking into the beautiful garden.
The room was nice and clean. The ground floor bath. The hot onsen water was great but the facility (mirrors, walls, ceilings...) looked a little old.
I'm a little disappointed when I didn't get a reply from them. I asked about the discount supported by the local authority.
- Amandine (9/5): Superb -
- Haytham (1/5): Bad - The location was not bad refrigerator doesn’t work
sleeping mat uncomfortable
no hot water for shower
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5):
