Guest Reviews
- Hung-Yi (8/5): - Good location, wonderful staff, and a great view to match.
- Maureen (10/5): - Facilities, food, onsen Hard bed
- Suzie (7/5): Decent enough value for money for location. - Ski in and ski out, excellent location for other dinner spot, mountain coffee and lunch. A second breakfast option by having the coffee shop inside is great if the buffet isn’t for you.
- Ahren (5/5): -

- Bo (9/5): Enjoyed the stay, breakfast was plentiful. - The common area was pleasant for us to get together after a day of skiing. Breakfast was good. I didn't like the uphill walk in ski boots.
- Evan (8/5): - The price The noise from the crowd
- John (9/5): - Amazing view from bedroom window in 5 floor looking out to mountain. Clean rooms. Great breakfast and dinner- made it very easy. Onsen was lovely too. Secure location for skis and boots. Being able to send skis on to airport made onwards travel easier. Potential improvements, but not an issue. A communal area to sit inside before cafe opened. A drying room on days when wet. Overall a really great location and hotel.
- Scott (3/5): Could be an amazing place if there had been some decent snow - I travelled there with three friends for a week, originally booked into a quad room which we found out after booking had no shower facility, so I booked a second quad room, which was one floor lower with a hugh shower for less that the original day rate for the quad with no bathing facilities?, so read the room discription carefully before booking unless you enjoy having to use the busy public bath open to anyone on the lower floor. Other than the location to the ski field and that the buses to Iiyama train station stop at the front of the hotel it was very average. The hire shop in the hotel has good snowboard hire gear at industry prices. The cafe near the hire shop has the best coffee in the area. There are a reasonable selection of dinning options outside the hotel if you become bored with the three inhouse options which aren't cheap, but the out side one are little better and very had to book in advance. I highly recommend the small family run crepe shop down the road to the right of the hotel 200m past the ski school, one of the best value feeds we had on the trip, limited indoor seating, but you will not leave hungry and try a desert crepes. At the end of the day when everyone comes in from the field the public bath (onsen) facilities can be very busy, so if you like sitting on a very low stool trying to wash your hair with no actual shower above sitting hieght, more floor height with dozens of naked men this place is for you. If you really want to feel violated try th RED Tricycle Tacos (picture attached) down the hill, here you can get two 'taster" size (one month full) soft tacos with minimal filling for A$20, then move on to find a meal because you will have to spend a lot $ to get full there, plenty of good burge shops up the hill. There is no 7 Eleven at Madarao Kogen so stock up before you come up, because the one small convenience store in town has a limited range, but better than the one in the hotel. Some site imply that the hotel is ski out, ski in, out yes in the broad sense but not in. I don't hold the hotel responsible for the weather or amount of snow, but beware the resort does not groom the upper sections of the runs which are mostly black runs, so are no good for snowboading unless you like hundreds of ice moguls from skiers on a very steep slope to access the better groomed red and green runs.
- Mark (9/5): I had a good time it was convenient to ski but the facility could use some updates - I like that it was ski-in ski-out Creepy Buddha statue in onsen and weird pillows in rooms
- Thomas (3/5): A health hazard and certainly not a 3 star hotel. Would not recommend - Relatively close walk to the mountain, good bar/restaurant on site. This place seriously needs to change the heating, they run kerosene/gas heaters which absolutely drench the entire building in a disgusting smell and made us all very nauseous. We asked for a different heater for our room as we believed ours had a leak only to be told they all were the same. We were given a small oil heater which unfortunately couldn’t provide enough warmth so the room was very cold most of the time. The bathroom had mould on the curtain and was extremely small. The wooden floor in the room splintered which meant there was bits of wood everywhere.
- crystal (10/5): comfortable, accommodating, friendly, awesome, will be back - the staff were over accommodating which made the stay stand out. Also loved the boiled eggs in the morning, they were scrumptious. A lot of places to eat around, convenience store very close for cheap dinner. Was abit of a walk up to the ski lift in the morning, (especially if hungover lol) but abit of exercise ain’t kill anyone.

- Faye Carmel (3/5): Too expensive, poor facilities - Room was rather old, toilet is too cold. Toilet seat not heated. Cabinets are old and dirty. Staff not helpful with questions on food, restos and tours. Food were poorly prepared.

- Chun Jui (8/5): - Best location for ski in and ski out A bit of outdated
- Tyrone (8/5): Excellent location. Kind and helpful staff. Would stay again for sure. - Location was fantastic - next to restaurants and a convenient mart. The rooms were a bit older than the pictures reflected and there were VERY loud guests late at night.
- Eddie (9/5): Happy to recommend stay for family skiing holiday - Great ski in ski out hotel. Great staff always helpful. Good value for money stay. Facilities and Rooms are a bit dated

- Sock (6/5): Okay - The room was very warm. I understand it's during the holiday season, but the price is still too expansive for the size of the room and the simple breakfast provided.
- Ashley (9/5): Great location, the best staff around and just made you feel welcome. - Great location and awesome staff! Nothing to report, we really enjoyed our stay.
- Danielle (7/5): We enjoyed the location and would stay here again if we returned. - The location was great (10 minute walk to mountain, or a 2 minute drive. Parking lot up the road coast 1000 yen a day to park at, staff was wonderful, family room was spacious, plenty of bedding, the bar attached was convent and easy to get a table if you arrived when they opened. There also was a conscience store 1 minutes from the hotel entrance. The smell of the heater in the room was very strong. Breakfast was toast, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cereal, juice and coffee. Same thing each day.
- IZUMIDA (1/5): -
- Elbek (1/5): Unsafe, outdated, and overpriced — nowhere near a real 3-star hotel. - Nothing badly maintained, unsafe, and massively overpriced. Rooms are extremely old, tatami is falling apart, and windows have no locks or safety protection, making it dangerous for families. Facilities are almost non-existent, Wi-Fi is very slow, bed sheets are not changed, and only one towel is provided. Rooms are heated with gasoline heaters, leaving a strong smell that sticks to clothes even after leaving. Staff appear untrained with no uniforms, and service is poor. Breakfast is minimal and low quality. This place should not be marketed as a 3-star hotel and is not recommended.

- Ronald (10/5): Great location and value. - Location - The hotel is ski in ski out. You can board down to the bus of the mountain and there’s a lift that can take you from the base of the mountain back up. The hotel is easy to get to from the Shinkansen station. There was ice melting outside and you could hear a constant drop all night.
- Kevin (9/5): Excellent - Ski in ski out, rentals and onsen onsite. Great food options. Staff brilliant.
- Satomi (10/5): We’d definitely stay again! - We had a fantastic stay! The ski area and rental shop are right nearby, and the onsen was beautiful. Delicious meals, kind staff, and easy access from the station made it even better. Our room was spacious and comfortable.
- Danielle (8/5): Great location, good facilities, limited food options. Would stay again. - The location for Madarao skiing cannot be beaten. It is a large hotel with a convenience store, ski locker room, rental gear, and a kids playroom which was really good for our kids (2 and 3yo). We had three different reservations in our group, and they were able to place our rooms close together. The rooms were quiet and didn't hear any outside noise. There are limited food options if you aren't skiing and don't have a car. There are two dinner options within the hotel, however the buffet is about $50 per person, and Restaurat Brian has a limited menu. The beds were very hard.
- Lisa (9/5): Superb - The best location for skiing, an amazing selection for the buffet breakfast and dinner, super helpful staff, and great facilities.
- Oneworldimages (8/5): Very good -
- James (5/5): Great location, friendly staff - Disappointing breakfast - A great location with friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. No options for different diets at the dinner or breakfast. Refused to provide non-dairy milk which was disappointing considering everywhere else in town had other options. If they provided a non-dairy option then we could have eaten the breakfast.
- Philip (8/5): Very good - Excellent location Dated
- Julie (9/5): Wonderful family skiing holiday and hope to be back next year. - Snow, property location, people and staff, ski passes usage by the hour. No ATM card availability.
Bar with wood fire closes at 5pm but would prefer it to stay open longer, Eg 9pm.
- Craig (10/5): - Great
- Peter (7/5): Good hotel in great location but a bit dated - Good location, facilities Bit dated
- Carlos (5/5): Disappointing - Location. Stain on duvet........
No towel provided on first day.
Western style beds harder than tatami.
Shower feed from sink tap which resulted in full hot or full cold.
- Noppasin (8/5): Very good -
- Elaine (10/5): Good location great hospitality - Ski in ski out Mediocre breakfast and dinner buffet spread
- Cassandra (10/5): We will definitely be back! We felt welcome and included. It became a home away from home! - We loved our time here. Service was friendly but always efficient and professional. Everything we needed for a fabulous ski holiday was literally right at our door step. Breakfast and dinner were included and these meals were generous and catered to all tastes. The onsen experience was precious. There is nothing like the hot pool outside with snowflakes swirling down around you!
- Hillary (9/5): Superb - Super efficient check-in (which isn't always the case!). Rooms are a bit dated, though very functional. Buffet breakfast was good, and lovely views from the restaurants and cafes in the hotel. Nice enough onsen. Can't beat the convenience of the location!
- Aprilysh (9/5): Onsen baths for sore legs - The center of Madarao resort, so location can't be beaten. We liked the buffet breakfast and enjoyed the onsen baths for sore legs. Good value for money. Would definitely stay here again.
- Roger (6/5): Good place to stay as its very close to the skiing - Food was good, but the dinners were the same every night. Need to change it around. Staff are always very helpful. The hotel is getting very tired and need to be modernised.
- Sian (10/5): We loved our stay at Madarao Kogen Hotel. The only thing we would fault is the pillows as they were a lot harder than wh - The location, staff and food were exceptional The pillows were very hard.
- Helen (9/5): Loved it we will come back. - Great buffet breakfast, amazing onsen. No shuttles or buses at night, so tricky to get there.
- Lo (9/5): I will book it again - It’s very convenient, the bus stop at the door, it’s a ski-in & out hotel, there are large ski room to keep your board downstairs, they provide the plastic pot, you can take the water & ice to your room. No soft drink provide for dinner buffet
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional - Right on the slope with everything you need onsite. Great onsen and big buffet breakfast, we had dinner included too which was good as could use at the buffet or other restaurant brian on site also Beds not so comfy but was tired enough it didn't matter
- Michael (7/5): We had a fabulous time. - Excellent Open lounge area. Doors in rooms interfere with internet and phone signal.
- Roger (7/5): Good hotel great location but needs a renovation . - Breakfasts were good dinners were same same no variations Hotel is getting tired need to be modernised
- Samantha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ezequiel (8/5): Very good -
- Cathy (8/5): Very good - Close to ski fields, easy access from Shinkansen station by bus. Room was a good size for a Japanese hotel, lovely view of the mountains from the room. Large buffet for breakfast and dinner with a good selection of food. Hotel had its own onsen which was great. Large locker room for ski equipment and also a rental place on site. There was also a restaurant and cafe in the complex. Discount price lift tickets for guests. Only issue was with staff when I tried to obtain milk for tea. Rooms are set up with items to make green tea or coffee with cream only. I had my own teabags and was happy to pay extra for the milk , but Staff advised that the only place I could buy milk was back at Iiyama which is a 30 minute bus ride away. Even their cafe wouldn’t allow it, as it was dangerous to remove from restaurant. Not very helpful, finally purchased from another cafe .
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location central to the town and very close to lifts. Provision of breakfast and dinner was great as not many eating options in town. Food was excellent. Rooms were quiet, clean and had a fantastic mountain view. Nothing.
- Arpad (9/5): Superb -
- Alivia (9/5): Superb -
- Mercury (6/5): Pleasant - ski in ski out onsen is so tiny and crowded. quite run down. beds r soft. very un-japanese in services e.g. not explaining what r available on requests such as humidifier. other hotels the staff will try to inform even thou not able to speak English.
- Lauren (8/5): Very good -
- Ting-jung (9/5): Superb - wifi is very slow
- Hala (8/5): Very good - The omen inside and outside was excellent Queues to get in to breakfast
- Tyla (8/5): Very good -
- Dieter (8/5): our first skiing in Japan was a success - location, the spa facility would have been easier if more staff spoke English
