Guest Reviews
- Branislav (10/5): Super - Relax N/a

- rosemaryp652 (10/5): Great hotel, friendly staff, fabulous food and good value. - We stayed at The Wrightington Hotel for three nights, this is our second visit.
We used the Spa and had breakfast and dinner.
I can recommend this hotel for the comfort, great food, attentive friendly sta. and value.
We visited RHS Bridgwater which is within a reasonable drive for a day out.
- Clare (9/5): Great weekend break - Great location off the M6, the rooms are of good size and well presented. Good lesuire facilities. Staff were friendly. The guest who was above us kept walking around and sounded like Bigfoot! Not the hotel’s fault
- Lee (9/5): - Your receptionist where a credit to your business Sauna not working during stay
Would have liked a fridge in the room
- helenpM7041QT (8/5): Corners cut - Whilst The Wrightington is the best hotel we have stayed at in Wigan - admittedly not against stiff competition - it has issues. I’d sum them up as the unmistakeable sound of corners being cut. It isn’t run as you would expect a good hotel to be run, although it advertises itself as a good hotel.
For example, the room was spacious and nicely-decorated by somebody who knows what he or she is doing. But…
The room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The smoking ban came in in 2008, I think, so I can’t understand why this would be the case in 2026.
In the bathroom, which was very clean, the tank behind the loo dripped continuously, which was distracting.
Similarly, the plug in the sink didn’t work properly so it was impossible to fill the sink to wash my face: the water kept draining away.
The shower tray filled up with water quickly because somebody needs to put a dose of Mr Muscle down the drain to clear the pipes but clearly nobody could be bothered.
The toiletries were nice but whenever I see those pump dispensers chained to the wall I know with a sense of inevitability that one of the pumps won’t be working properly and that I’ll need to do arm contortions in the shower to extract enough shower gel for one leg. Yes, that happened.
The walls were thin so at 11.45 pm we had to listen to the drunk people in the room next door partying. They later moved to the room above us for some (we assume) clog dancing on the thin ceiling.
The check in/check out process was deeply odd. I booked online via the hotel’s own website. No request for payment. A couple of days later I received an e-mail telling me off for not having paid yet despite the fact that the stay at the hotel was still two days away. What sort of hotel does that? I called reception and spoke to someone who didn’t seem to understand what I was saying but who nevertheless told me that I could pay on arrival, as if this were a huge concession. If the hotel wants guests to pay in advance, why not make it part of the booking process on the website? I assume that it is because the owners are too cheap to pay for a proper payment interface on the website and don’t care what impression that leaves on guests.
When we checked out (at the unusually early check out time of 10.30 am (we made sure to leave by that time as by then we had formed the view that this was the sort of hotel that would enthusiastically enforce a fine for checking out two minutes late) we weren’t asked how our stay had been. I surmise that the hotel doesn’t care!
Overall it felt that The Wrightington was charging an ambitious (for Wigan) £124 room only without breakfast for rather a cheapskate offering.

- Daydream23474624519 (10/5): Excellent Stay!!!! - We have just stayed overnight and had a throughly enjoyable experience.
From checking in things went well, Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated and had everything for a pleasant overnight stay, The Evening Meal in the restaurant and bar was excellent and cooked to perfection. Breakfast was also enjoyable with plenty of choice for everyone. All the staff were Friendly, Helpful and Professional. I'm sure we will be returning in the future.
- Sharan (6/5): Average - Nearby and convenient to the motorway
Friendly staff Pool out of commission
Jacuzzi very chemical smelling and not ususable
Restaurant very expensive and almost non existent vegetarian options
- N4525FDrenates (10/5): Another superb stay - We’ve stayed here many times over the years & can always guarantee a warm welcome. The rooms are always immaculately presented with the latest addition of wonderful vegan toiletries being a really thoughtful touch. The food is always of superb quality, well cooked & delicious. A special thank you goes to Martin for his personal touch & for developing a really tasty vegan menu. Looking forward to our next visit already 😊

- Gareth (10/5): Good hotel at an excellent location - Checking in and out Price
- Rachael (10/5): -
- emma (9/5): Lovely location, friendly staff and great spa facilities - The health club facilities
- Kev (6/5): Nice hotel but noisy nights sleep. - Good location The ceiling must contain the thinnest, noisiest, squeakiest floorboards in history. I could hear every step of the people above squeaking away and then when they finally fell asleep I could hear them snoring all night.
It’s a shame as the hotel is nice, staff were great, breakfast tasty and room very spacious.
If I’d been in the room above the stay would have been much different!
- Michael (8/5): Very nice and modern but feel it’s not value for money - Very nice ,staff were great food was amazing I understand it’s was a national holiday but we couldn’t use the pool or gym as we planned due to later check in and early check out plus we was asked to leave the gym at 17:40 but said it was open till 20:00
- Rachel (8/5): -
- DayTrip09465714500 (10/5): 90th birthday celebration - Excellent meal as usual 16 of us went and everything was excellent, lovely staff & service will definitely be returning soon.
- Rebecca (7/5): Nice enough hotel, needs some tweaks - The shared spaces were nice and clean, the pool area was lovely too
Location is great from the motorway and where we needed to be. The mattress felt like I was sleeping on the odd spring and the base of the bed. The latch was missing off the window so it couldn’t be shut properly to keep the noise out.
We wanted a hot drink mid morning from the bar and the staff didn’t seem too thrilled that we had even asked.
Sunday dinner advertised on the website from 1pm is incorrect, reception told us it was 3pm. Initial check in staff member was not the most cheery or welcoming person.
- Rookester (8/5): A nice spa day - My friend and I booked for a day at the spa. The price was reasonable as a one hour massage was £80 and the total price of this spa including a £10 weekly supplement was £110. Upon arrival we were greeted at reception and we were able to sit in a waiting area to fill out our health forms and choose our lunch. She then showed us around the spa, where the things were such as the pool and the changing rooms as well as the relaxation room. we were able to move around the spa freely in our robe and slippers, she did recommend not wearing the slippers around the pool area as it was quite slippy with those slippers on and luckily we had both bought flip-flops. We spent the morning in the spa area using the pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room they were all well cleaned. The spa pool however was a bit of an odd colour and was very foamy but it was not too chlorinated which other places have been. The relaxation room was delightful it was nice and quiet. The lighting was perfect. Music was lovely however the room could’ve been a little bit warmer. There was water available in this room. The changing and shower room was particularly nice. There were plenty of towels provided the lockers were spacious and easy to use. We have to redress after the spa prior to going to lunch. My friend already knew this and the lady on reception did inform us of this. We went upstairs to the bar to use our dinner allowance considering we booked our lunch at 1 pm, they were quite slow to bring out our food however when the food did arrive, it was absolutely delicious. We returned back to the spa area for our treatments the ladies providing the treatments were very good. the music however was a little interesting to say the least they perhaps need to find a more relaxing playlist. We return to the bar later on for a cup of tea and some light refreshments before returning home.

- Sarah (10/5): Such a lovely place and excellent friendly service - Been here before for a function but didn’t stay and when I saw how lovely it all was booked to stay this time
A very friendly welcoming check in
Beautiful large room
Plentiful parking
Food and service were superb
- Paul (4/5): Disappointed, having been recommended - I had been over sold this hotel, not the experience I was expecting. Receptionist rather miserable and the room was not superior by any standard other than larger than average. The wooden furniture was well worn and just lacked a luxury feel. Very cold, receptionist very local, not a warm welcome you would get from a corporate hotel chain
- Richard (9/5): -
- Beth (10/5): Staff were exceptional, got us a fan and room service was top tier - Clean comfortable and stylish rooms
- Christakis (9/5): -
- diane (10/5): -
- Ronald (8/5): Relaxed and comfortable - The leisure facilities and Leisure Reception staff were superb A bit of confusion on my evening restaurant booking but it was not a big issue ..
- Geoffrey (8/5): Excellent hotel, staff super friendly, clean and a great choice for a two night stay - we have stayed twice now, the first time we had a nicer room but both are good Location, staff, facilities, everthing really
- paul (9/5): Relaxing Hotel - Great spa hotel in country setting, very clean with decent restaurant and health club facilities. Rooms good size with heating and kettle. Nice pool area with beds to relax in. Bed was comfy in room also. Not much to dislike restaurant was a bit pricy but food was good and had quality beers and wines. Staff attentive in restaurant.
- Cath (9/5): Clean, bright and comfortable - Bright and clean You couldn’t use the gym, spa on the day you leave
- Gerry (9/5): Happily stay again in this room type can’t comment on other rooms. - Superior room type was spacious gym and
Pool very good. Breakfast was good and onsite restaurant was very good As noted in other reviews sound proofing between rooms etc is not the beat but this is outwith hotel control now.
- Vanessa (7/5): -
- Christopher (7/5): -
- Joanne (9/5): -
- James (8/5): -
- Simon (10/5): - Modern, clean, easy to park
- Paul (3/5): Pretty bad. - Noise from bedroom above continued all night hence no sleep. No soundproof between rooms and floors. Reception informed during the night and again on checkout. Will not stay there again.
- Hannah (10/5): -
- Nilihan (4/5): Mediocre stay - Bed was comfortable. The spa was fully booked so you couldn't use the facilities and there was no soap in the rooms. It was a bit too pricey but did not deliver what was expected like spa facilities etc.
- John (10/5): -
- Richard (6/5): -
- Mark (7/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - Fabulous, so clean, staff so friendly and helpful Nothing
- Emma (9/5): Swimming pool great, restaurant brilliant, breakfast lovely - The windows in the room were old wooden windows and let a terrible draft through you could hear the wind coming through the windows and I closed the curtains to see if that kept the heat in but the radiator was underneath the window so it didn’t help the room felt cold due to this. There was no clean towels in swimming pool area as told there would be so we had to go to spa reception in swimwear to ask for a towel to get dry!
- Marion (9/5): -
- Russell (7/5): - Hotel and bar are very clean. Rooms ok Spa facilities not so good
- Steve Wok (10/5): -
- andrew (10/5): -
- Simon (8/5): Except breakfast everything was top value for money. - The restaurant and the gym were top class for UK standards. Breakfast too late openings, poor choice of food, prohibitive prices.
- Scott (10/5): -
- Tony (5/5): Poor value for the price charged and unfriendly all around. - Clean rooms, spa and massage therapists. Breakfast when available. The staff unfortunately were unfriendly. The locals in the pool and leisure facilities were hostile to hotel guests. The room heating was controlled by management and we had no control. This meant cold rooms at times. Poor value for money.
- Robert (8/5): -
- mollyash (6/5): Boxing Day family meal. - We had high expectations of Wrightington Hotel for our family Boxing Day meal.
On arrival we were shown to a room which hadn’t been cleaned very well with empty glasses and stains on the tables.
We ordered drinks at the bar and asked for 3 diet cokes. Straight away my daughter knew the coke wasn’t diet, when I took it back the waitress was quite aware that it wasn’t diet and served it anyway. My son is a type 1 diabetic and anyone who knows anything about type 1 would know that’s quite a serious error. The replacement diet cokes didn’t turn up until I had to go to the manager and complain.
When the rest of our party arrived we were shown to our table, this was placed in the back room and not in the nice area of the function room with the big windows, very underwhelming. We hadn’t had chance to sit down before the starters were served. No drinks service so in a full room of big tables we are expected to go the the bar in the queue of people waiting.
We asked for a break before the mains came as could see we would have been back home in less than an hour.
All in all it was a rushed disappointing service which was a shame because the food was very good.
Imagine if this would have been Christmas Day at the prices being charged.
We wouldn’t visit again.

- Dawn (10/5): Amazing trip, recommend this hotel highly - Liked everything
Lovely breakfast ,brilliant facilities included in price, sauna, jacuzzi, pool, steam room, gym,
Nice spa also, this pay and book separately but I had a massage and it was amazing
Staff helpful throughout my visit
And the lady who done massage was brilliant There wasn’t anything I did not like
- Khalid (10/5): -
- Dreamer668181 (10/5): Jonathan murphy - Excellent hotel spotless and very friedly staff first time staying in this part of england.Close enough to manchester and liverpool so perfect for our shopping trip. Have no hesitancy in staying here again
- Fiona (8/5): - Large room was lovely Event on so car park full.
Fridge in room would help
Staying on a night there is a party/event can be noisy- Event guest opposite had a drunken loud conversation in corridor for 45 mins as 1 am
- James (10/5): Faultless - Comfortable Nothing
- Susie (8/5): Lovely hotel - The area and the bar and restaurant The remote for the tv didnt work so we were given 2 somethings worked on one remote.… some on the other remote also we couldn't turn it off so had to keep turning it off on the floor plug under the table which was very inconvenient to keep getting down on our knees to turn it off when you are in your late 60 s the duty manager knee about the problem because they had to do the same thing last week so why wasnt it sorted?
- Natalie (10/5): Wonderful, stay helpful staff! - Helpful staff. Really nice facilities room is very large and very clean had no issues throughout my stay and intending on the stage again when the event takes place next year. I can see why they select this location for the event. Absolutely nothing it was wonderful
- Jason (4/5): Expected more from my room being as i was charged £50 more - The reception staff were nice the breakfast staff were rude & not attentive at all apart from a dark haired girl on Monday morning My room was meant to be a superior deluxe / double but it was £50 more for the 2 nights stay than my colleagues standard double (shower wasn’t as good as his/ room wasn’t as nice nor the bed or any of the room in fact my room was smaller,, apparently my view was much nicer (a courtyard 🤷🏼♂️) which made it more expensive which is a joke & I won’t be booking anymore superior rooms if that’s how it’s judged
- Samantha (9/5): -
- paul (10/5): Relaxing and comfortable we would definitely stay here again - Fantastic room
The spa was great not over crowded

- Kate (8/5): - Helpful staff. No option for king size bed without choosing a suite.
- Jack (10/5): -
- Anisah (10/5): Clean, comfortable and so easy. - The staff were excellent. Extremely friendly and caring towards us arriving late and the restaurant staff were wonderful. All whilst there was a big event at the hotel they never made us feel like we weren’t important enough. The parking was limited as a result of the event.
- Carolyn (10/5): Fabulous weekend. Lovely place and staff - Lovely hotel Nothing
- Dawn (10/5): Lovely hotel, excellent facilities - Lovely surroundings ,simple book in.
The room lovely clean and spacious . I asked for a quiet room ,I’m not sure if this was actioned, but the room I had was so quiet and peaceful
There was a private party downstairs and I did not hear a thing.
A peaceful night away from home is my reason for staying at a health spa(can I say noisy air con is common in a lot of hotels I have stayed in,this was definitely an exception).
All facilities were available as advertised and easily accessible no fuss,no pre booking time slots, just constant access up until 8 pm to pool, jacuzzi, steam room with lockers (take a pound coin or shopping trolley coin)
There is a lovely spa room with lots of treatments, this is prebook and chargeable.
The breakfast was lovely, lots of choice ,full English, juice, cereal (I had to prepay on arrival for breakfast, as, it was not an option to include on booking .com)
All the staff were really helpful and all facilities clearly marked.
Bar and restaurant upstairs,I never ate there but meals looked nice,
I had a drink at the bar, very comfortable as a solo traveller to sit alone, nice couch to sit on
Loved this place and will go back N/a

- Pennington (10/5): Another lovely relaxing stay at the Wrightington. We'll be back. - Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff in the restaurant were lovely especially Karen who looked after us during our visit. The food was amazing too. Nothing.
- SARAH (8/5): Felt a little disappointed considering it was a special night away and the price we had paid. - Location
Pool and jacuzzi
Breakfast The 10:30 checkout, we felt rushed to get up have breakfast and also pack and think it ought to be at least 11am.
A lot of other hotels we have stayed in have allowed us to use the pool again in the morning even when we have just checked out. We felt disappointed that this was not possible esp as we were visiting on my birthday.
The bathroom bin had rubbish in from previous guests, wasn’t pleased that it had not been checked/emptied.
- Graham (10/5): -
- Kate (6/5): - Rrom was spacious and clean Ordered room service beef and ham sandwiches and soup. After waiting over an hour phoned to ask where it was as was all falling asleep. Man who answered the phone sounded very flustered and annoyed and said im busy running around answering phones and doing other stuff. So insaod cancel the order then and he said no im jalfway thorugh making them so il send them when they done.
Food eventually arrived. Cheese instwad of beef and soup looked like congealed gunk.
Breakfast was a disaster no staff no food no juices constantly waiting for
stuff.
- M (8/5): - Excellent staff. Heating issue needs resolving.

- 220catherinew (10/5): Amazing hotel and great staff - We held our retreat here over a weekend, there were 13 of us and we had an amazing time
The staff were wonderful, so helpful and extremely accommodating
The rooms were really comfortable, huge bed, a bath or a shower if we preferred
Food was beautiful including a hot lunch which was particularly inportant for a few of the attendees
The spa facilities and pool were wonderful too, people loved the large pool
As the organiser and this being my first retreat, to be able to have complete confidence in the hotel just made my life so much easier because I was able to concentrate on what I was doing and also enjoy the weekend too
I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and we definitely will be back
- handif (4/5): Poor and inconsistent - Stayed for a 3 day conference and thoroughly underwhelmed. The highs were the event team and reception. They were on the ball and helpful. The spa and health facilities were pretty good if crowded. The hotel bedrooms are tired, shabby and ill equipped. Poor showers, hard beds, not a USB port in sight and incredibly poor toiletries. I haven’t seen a screwed down hairdryer in a drawer for many years. The worst part of this hotel is the food. The lunch menu for vegetarians is dire. The lunch chef is unimaginative and doesn’t care about creating a balanced menu of real food. Dinner in the evening was only slightly better in Bennett’s. Those on steaks found them overcooked, cheese and biscuits were with soft biscuits and bread was stale. Overall, I wouldn’t choose this venue for a stay or conference again. They seem geared for day guests in the bar and the health club. It needs bedroom investment and a catering staff overhaul.
