Guest Reviews
- Ron (10/5): Birders paradise. - This is a birders paradise. We saw multiple macaws and Toucans right outside our room.
- Tim (10/5): - Set in a jungle angle like setting , yet very well maintained, friendly staff, beautiful plants and sounds on birds And monkeys especially in the morning.10- 15 min walk to beach 20-25 to grocery store . Tuk tuk is very affordable if you don’t have a car . Grocery Store delivery free if you spend $50.00 or so . Lots of local restaurants within walking distance. The road up is a bit rough.
- Shawn (8/5): - This location was considered somewhat safe as they had Onsight guards for safety, but the roads to get to this location were very rough and you could only travel at about 10 or 15 Kilometers per hour to get to the location. I would rate this location as a solid 3 or 4 in regards to the location and access.
- Darren (8/5): - Beautiful villa and pool. We loved our stay but the communication with front desk was terrible. Getting fresh water was a bit annoying and trying to work out any issue with the front desk is impossible as they do not respond to emails and simply do not call you back. Communication was non existent and front desk is a 10 minute drive away. This needs to change on their part. They say its walking distance to the beach, realistically it is not.
The villa itself is perfect and the pool is great.
- Gary (4/5): - Phone not answered
Had to go 15min away to check in. Rocky but suv-able road.
- Damon (10/5): - Absolutely loved our stay here. Spacious accomodations that allowed us to relax as well as cook for ourselves and prepare for daily outings
- Mario (10/5): - Excelente para familias! Gran lugar y muy seguro. Las playas cercanas son un paraíso. Muchos lugares donde comer alrededor.
- Nathan (8/5): - We loved the property, having the private pool and AC were definite pluses. The kitchen was functional and the bathrooms were nice - the weather makes cool showers ok and you don't miss the hot water too much. Hot water was missed for doing dishes though - we boiled water on the stove to wash. The beds could be better - the wood frames are creaky and the mattresses are too thin. Communication through WhatsApp was hit and miss - we were able to get assistance booking excursions but when we requested additional drinking water or checkout procedures we did not hear back. The tiles on the pool are due for a refresh, but the water was all ways clean as they cleaned it every day. We felt safe and safe and loved the location within easy distance to so much to do.
- Juan V (8/5): Good place - Very good place to stay. Air conditioning in one of the rooms was really noisy very hard to sleep. Was really hard to communicate with the service, they never answered the WhatsApp
- Vicky (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay. The house and property was beautiful and clean.
- Mary (10/5): - The villa is beautiful with 2 rooms and a private pool. Nice terrace. Management is very helpful and accessible via WhatsApp. We loved the place and extended our stay by 1 night.
- Celia Z (8/5): - We really enjoyed our stay. Very private. A really nice size villa. Glad to have a kitchen.
You need to have a car to go to the beach or restaurants but that was not a problem for us. They could use better quality mattresses.
They use way too much Clorox to clean and the water is very harsh to take a shower as it also smells Clorox however we had no problem with hot water. The front desk help and staff are very helpful.
- Juan V (8/5): Good Option in Cocles - Very good place and option in Cocles. Well located and secured. Communication what's hard over WhatsApp. We want to stay an extra night but even do the villa was available they told us that they have to do a door maintenance so they can give us the extra night, I understand the situation but I was expecting a better customer service. Overall good place to stay for a great vacation in South Caribbean
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very pretty and close to everything. The unit and pool are beautiful. The one young guy was very hospitable. It didn’t seem like anyone else worked there with him during the day. Lots of dogs barking in surrounding properties and chain saws while we were there due to trees being cut down.
- Chris P. (10/5): perfect! - everything just perfect! host, attention to detail, location, everything, thank you!!!!
- Chris (10/5): - The property and individual villas are secluded yet close to town and beaches. The sounds of the jungle are fantastic!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything very pretty. Not far from the beach. Villas are equipped everything. The staff very friendly. My kids enjoyed the pool.
- Jc (8/5): - Beautiful porch to sit, listen and watch the howler monkeys. Pool was nice to cool off in during hot afternoons and kitchen was well equipped for us to cook breakfast every morning. This was the 1st truly hot shower our whole trip around Costa Rica.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Bad customer service experience and character - We came a little bit late and checked in after 8pm. Nobody was there at the reception except one of the hotel maintenance guys so he helped us get into our Villa. The cable in one room was not working so the next morning they came to help and I found out that I made a mistake and booked to Villa's (but we were only checked into one). I asked if I could please have a refund and they declined. I understand if it's a busy part of the season but there were many vacancies and I found out because we came late they ended up booking our two original rooms we had reserved. The lady at the reception was very very rude. I am a business owner and I've been to costa rica 6 times and this the worst service ever. We ended up using one Villa for the whole stay at got charged for 2. The customer service is so "BAD" and the lady at the reception is rude I would never give them my business again. There are so many other better spots with "nicer" service that will be more welcoming. Hotels.com there customer service are very classy people and tried to help get our refund but these folks just don't understand business. Local's don't rent out these Villa's...Tourist do. The check out process was also a bad experience for us but one things for sure none of my friends and family will ever go to this place, we will take our business to the other hotels that actually have some class.
- PJ (10/5): - Beautiful property. Great location. The house was well appointed and cared for. The on-site staff was helpful. Really enjoyed our time at this property and will definitely stay there again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Private pool cleaned daily - privacy - saw tons of birds right from I’m our lovely outdoor patio
Inside of villa was stunning
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Poor signage, difficult access road, friendly bilingual staff, private and isolated, stunning architecture.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - I didn’t like Expedia’s and villas del caribes policy on refunds. I feel like I’ve been ripped off chafed for a place that I didn’t stay in
- gary (8/5): Idyllic - Very private and well maintained. Trouble with keys, they have to call in the manager from half hour away when locked out after hours. Very rough road. Middle of the jungle.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful and tranquil setting. Monkeys and toucans in the trees. Very helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff was excellent Mara and Tilde ( I think that's how its spelled), they did an excellent job.
The Villa was very nice. We had our own pool, all the villas had very beautiful privacy hedges which made it feel extra private. The Villa needed some maintenance done to it ( tiles missing in the pool, stove top burners did not work all that well, need some new pots and pans.) just little things, but overall we thought it was a great place and would definitely go back there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property was wonderful, the only problem is it is about a mile in pn a dirt road and there was construction right next to us.
- Whitney (8/5): Cute villa spot - Cute villa and private pool was sweet, but beds weren't the most comfortable and there were lots of ants. Also since it was through hotels.com I figured there'd be face cloths / shampoo / conditioner but there were none of those.
- Diane (10/5): - House was very clean, plenty of room with 2 large bedrooms and 2 full baths. Kitchen fully equipped, grounds planted out nicely to provide privacy for your private pool. It was a wonderful stay.
- Sarah (10/5): Paradise in the jungle - This place was gorgeous! Perfectly clean, the villa is large and luxurious. The private pool was amazing, surrounded by a lovely garden. It is up a VERY bumpy dirt road, a bit away from the town. Doable though and taxis didn't have a problem. It was nice to spend the evenings away from the lively town, very peaceful.
- Danny (8/5): Spacious home close to the beach. - Very nice little two bedroom condo with it’s own pool. Lots of room with a kitchen. Would definitely recommend . The only issue is the wireless internet signal is very weak and slow.
Actually the signal is so weak, none of us were able to connect.
- Rosalyn (10/5): - All aspects of my stay were excellent. All the employees were warm, helpful, and professional. I truly enjoyed my entire stay.
Sincerely,
Rosalyn Johnson
- Maike (10/5): Hidden gem in Jungle - Property was great. Hidden in the jungle, with beach, supermarket , restaurants and The Jaguar Rescue Center just a short walk away. We saw Toucans and Hummingbirds daily and heard the Howler Monkeys. Staff was very friendly and the private pool and villa were very clean. We will defiantly be back. Tip: Rent a 4X4 drive up to the resort is rather bumpy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place, off the beaten path - The villa was great.. the owners were even better! Since these places are known for their privacy, they are not walk able distance to the town.. if you have a car, no problems... getting back & forth with a taxi can become expensive.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice get away in Cost Rica - We loved the overall place. The villa was in excellent condition. It was cute and had a nice kitchen and living area. Very nice landscaping and patio areas. Nice size private pool but the pool light was out and even though we told several people it never got fixed. The beds were very hard. I had to put towels under my body for sleeping. Also the road getting to it was very bad.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice hotel near Puerto Viejo and Playa Uva - well maintained grounds and villa, quiet and beautiful location.
- Cindi (10/5): Private and Comfortable - We traveled with two other couples from the Pacific side last week to explore the Carbbean side of the country and had reserved three cabinas at Villas Lomas del Caribe. This place is fantastic! The Villas are lovely, roomy and very clean. Two bedrooms and two bathrooms, large dining table that seats six, full kitchen (full sized refrigerator, glass top stove, toaster, blender, coffee pot, microwave, and dishes and pots and pans). Both bedrooms have flat screen TVs but we never turned them on! Each cabina is landscaped for privacy so we could swim or lounge comfortably. We loved it here so much that we will make this a semi annual trip! Oh....and the staff.....excellent (especially Mara). They were friendly, helpful, and respectful of our privacy. If I could give Villas Lomas del Caribe more stars....I would!
- Robin (10/5): A luxury and large villa at a hotel value price - Wow! What a nice place to stay. A true bargain especially if there are 2 couples or a family. New. Clean large. Private pool and more. Great restaurants around and beach. A car is helpful.
- Betty (10/5): Awesome place to have your vacation at!! - At Villa Lomas del Caribe at Puerto Viejo were outstanding. After a long drive cross-country we arrived at this most beautiful property surrounded by the rainforest, it was breathtaking. The staff there was excellent and the service they provided even more so. There was always someone available (24-7). The villa was exceptionally clean, comfortable and beautiful. The beach is a 15 min walk and the village for all your shopping is a 10min drive. If you like animals, the Jaguar Rescue Center is an awesome nonprofit organization that helps rehabilitate injured animals, only a 10min drive from the Villa. Locals are very friendly so if you need help finding the place just ask a local! Pura Vida!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Best around so far - I have been around the zone in other hotels and this is the best so far. Private, quiet, nature friendly. Each villa is all equipped for 4 people and independent from the other villas. Small swimming pool but very clean and staff cleans it every day.5 minutes away from Cocles and 10-15 minute away from Puerto Viejo or Manzanillo. Great option for a great stay
- diane (2/5): Don't do it - No electricity or water.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Amazing! Best spot in the area - This hotel exceeded my expectations and is even nicer in person than in the photos. The private pool is amazing and luxurious and the villa itself is spacious and fully equipped. The staff was kind and the locations is great. We rented a car and were able to access some of the gems of the area. From having researched hotels in the region, this is surely one of the best and you get so much for the price- your own little Caribbean oasis with all the amenities you need. Highly recommend this place and hope to come stay again!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great staff - Private bungaloo - comfortable beds - Awesome place - but make sure you get correct ground transportation before you leave - contact the hotel directly .
- William (10/5): - Great room for the value. I felt like I was a rich person because of where we were staying. The personal pool was unexpected and also great for viewing the moon and stars
- Nicole (10/5): Great stay at Villas Lomas del Caribe! - Great place to stay in. Villas are spacious, each villa has its own outdoor pool, that we loved. Rooms have air conditioning units. Nice kitchen and dining area. The villas are tucked away in the jungle, in the quieter part of town,so would highly recommend renting a car. Would definitely visit again!
- Chris (8/5): Nice, but off beaten path, good if you have car - The villas are quite nice, with private pools and everything you need, but the mattresses are quite hard. For some inexplicable reason, they put the world's slipperiest feet on the chairs/couches on a hardwood floor (I guess to not scratch it), but be careful sitting down as they sliiiide (our 3 year old fell more than once, and I almost bailed). Don't even think about trying to lay down on the couch, as it's a sectional and since they slide so much, you'll fall into the cracks between. :)
If you don't have a rental car, it's quite a trek in & out, be prepared. Takes about 20 minutes to walk from the main road up the gravel road with a big hill. Bikes are faster, but you have to walk down to rent them (if available anywhere nearby) as they don't rent on-site. 99% of the rental bikes do not have gears, so you still end up walking them up the hill (but you can ride down much faster, and they have a basket for carrying things). Caribe Shuttle wouldn't pick us up there, we had to get to the next hotel closer to road.
The wifi worked good, but only outside our villa (#6) on the patio. They have multiple networks, and the only one that we could pick up inside the villa, the staff refused to give us the password for (with no reason given)... for 5 days they kept telling us "we're calling someone", "the boss will be here to fix it", etc. and yet it never got better.
Be aware that if it matters, the staff speak Spanish & Italian... very little English (Mara speaks some).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Luxurious accommodations in a beautiful setting with your own private pool. But be prepared for the boulder-strewn road from the beach that is a bit of a challenge, for walking more than driving. We had toucans fly through the yard in the morning -- what a treat!
