• hts134 (10/5): Hidden gem in DC - This is a fantastic hidden gem. 1800s charm with just enough modern convenience. All the workers own the hotel so the spirit of assistance and hospitality is in every interaction with staff. I’ve stayed multiple times and would recommend to anyone coming to DC.
• mollyf954 (10/5): Quaint, comfortable and excellent service. - I had such a lovely 4 night stay. They made everything so easy (even helping with my big bag on the stairs). The dining room is delicious. I had a delicious egg sandwich one day and a ceasar salad another. Great service. Of course the fireplace bar is amazing as well. They had very clear instructions for using the nearby parking lot. My room was cleaned and tidied thoroughly each night. Will stay here again!

Their tavern type lounge is packed with locals most nights and just has a “vibe” that can’t be explained. The employee owned staff is so kind and helpful! The food is 5-star! Don’t miss this hotel when you go to DC.

• fudge123459876 (10/5): Charming Inn with Great Location - A lovely old-school inn located in the heart of Dupont circle. This was one of the cheapest hotel options in DC the night I stayed, but it punched well-above its weight for quality and value. The room was spacious and the Inn location was walking distance to downtown, Dupont and Logan Circle. Customer service was great when I had an issue with my booking (not their fault; I booked through a third party). Didn’t have time to enjoy a meal in their restaurant, but it looked lovely. I look forward to staying here on my next trip to DC.

The restaurant serves excellent food, drink and often features live music. The staff are warm, responsive and genuinely interested in making your stay pleasant.
• Hasenkeyf (10/5): A great little anniversary spot! - Perfect location within easy walking distance of Dupont Circle. We stumbled upon the Tabard Inn by chance, and it turned out to be an exceptionally cute and cozy place to pass the time! Many couples were there enjoying the atmosphere. The restaurant is very nice as well. We had two rooms, one for my parents and the other for us, both had fireplaces and vintage furniture. Our bed was huge! We want to make coming here a tradition.

High points: cozy fireplace, free aperitif, chef who respects food allergies, and the absence of forced air heating that normally keeps me awake off and on turning on and fluctuating in temperature. The live jazz music was a bonus.
• LongIslandMom1 (10/5): Charm, history and excellent cuisine - We stayed at the Tabard Inn for two night while visiting family in town. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The decor is eclectic and so fun. There's a lot of history to absorb at the Tabard Inn. We had a fabulous breakfast (lox over scrambled eggs, house-made donuts) and a good dinner (bib salad, chicken fricassee). TV sets and elevators are absent, so be aware. For us, this was just fine.

• 128redh (10/5): Gentle magic - Great service and cleanliness can overcome any lack of “modern” conveniences for me. Each year, DC hosts the biggest traffic snarl ever for one night: the Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. I cant even get my car out of the parking garage for over an hour. So I plan my solo escape by booking a hotel room. The Tabard in had a single room with shared bathroom down the hall. No TV, no radio. That’s not for everyone - I get it. I’m telling you, it was PERFECT. I had a lovely dinner at the Tabard Inn Restaurant with attentive servers, everyone had genuine smiles, they were present and happy to be there. I, in turn, felt welcome, cared for. Home. This little piece of magic doesn’t happen often, and its rarely repeatable. I’m delighted to document it for others. It happened here.

Breakfast coupons - tho half block away is a good espresso patisserie. The in room heat source was on/off as was the hot water: slightly annoying. Managment somewhat nebulous. Lots of stairs throughout! Its so original you have to “Love it”
• PeteChristopher (8/5): Lovely quant hotel, bar and restaurant - The Tabard is a lovely place to stay, with great staff, rooms with character, and in an excellent city location. Our bed was small (compared to the King size you get elsewhere) but comfy, and the bathroom large and stylish. The shower was great but did suffer from the hot water cooling down a lot at times. Breakfast was plentiful and from a terrific menu. The bar shuts at 11 most days. Our only disappointment was the volume of noise from outside the hotel every night - next door's valet parking attendants seem to have a loud laugh and joke at midnight; and then there was a always a crazy loud drunk getting thrown out of a bar opposite at 2am; and then a laughing/screaming woman always seemed to be chased down the street at 4am! To cap that, at 7am next door started with their leaf-blower machine for 40 minutes or so, just to make sure we had as little quiet rest as possible! Between these interruptions, we slept like babies! I'm sure the rooms upstairs or at the back are quieter and don't suffer from noisy neighbours as much. It was great to finally stay at this hotel, some 30 years after I first had a meal there.
• 388kenth (10/5): Lots of personality, excellent value - Charming, historic inn with a great bar and restaurant, conveniently located between downtown and Dupont Circle. But if you want a cookie-cutter product with a gym and a TV in every room, not your place.
• 624pageh (10/5): Pure pleasure - It was such a pleasure to stay at this employee-owned property. They have gone above and beyond to keep the old rooms clean and comfortable. To top it off, you have one of the best restaurants in D.C. in your hotel. I actually wanted to get back to the hotel after my meetings to enjoy the experience fully.

• MauMauMauMau (2/5): FREEZING: no heating with outside temperatures in the 40s - The hotel is charming but there was no heating at the end of October. They offer a space heater, but electricity is not sufficient and the circuit brakes continuously. As results, with outside temperatures in the 40s, my room was terribly cold. This made the whole experience very negative.
• CharS94 (4/5): Beautiful Hotel and Great Staff, But Far Too Noisy - I stayed here for a Friday–Sunday weekend in October, and unfortunately, it wasn’t a great experience overall. Starting with the positives; the hotel itself is lovely, with a traditional feel and spacious rooms. Breakfast was delicious and great value, especially with the $10 daily voucher included in the stay. The location is also great. The staff were all very friendly, and reception did apologise when I raised the below concerns, though unfortunately, no real solution was offered beyond providing earplugs. However, the main issue was the noise. It was honestly awful. Both nights were extremely disrupted - not only by people outside shouting and hanging around in the early hours (3–4 a.m.), but also by the loud events held within the hotel itself. On the Saturday night, the music and microphone from a DJ event were so loud that I couldn’t sleep until it ended close to midnight, and then I was woken again a few hours later by the street noise. I completely understand that outside noise isn’t something the hotel can control, but the sound from the internal events really shouldn’t carry so much into guest rooms. Perhaps lowering the volume or improving soundproofing could help, as it’s clear the building’s age makes it very easy for noise to travel. I’m honestly surprised more reviews haven’t mentioned this, as it was extremely disruptive. Overall, while the hotel and staff were lovely, the level of noise meant I left feeling more tired than when I arrived. I’d wouldn’t stay again unless the event noise issue was addressed.
• glenncH620OQ (8/5): Very nice room and inn but there are bathroom issues. - Room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Communal areas were very enticing and the restaurant served very good quality food. The only complaint was the bathroom fixtures. The spout of the bathroom faucet just barely cleared the basin, making it difficult to wash without water going on the vanity and the floor. In the bathtub, the opposite occurred where the faucet spout was in the middle of the tub and was quite long, making it difficult to avoid hitting your leg. This could be a safety issue.

Everyone at the Tabard was so welcoming, easy to work with, helpful, and so excited to help us celebrate our special weekend. We will never forget this experience!
• 975christined (6/5): Jazz hotel - The ambience is simply wonderful and the staff-owners are really friendly. And the free jazz in the bar and lounge is not to be missed! I do wish the rooms were warmer and the bathrooms more accommodating for two people. Adding vegan items to the menus would be a super move too.
• lesliegT5095AH (8/5): Great food! Okay stay…… - As always, dining is amazing at The Tabard. All of our meals were excellent and staff are always so gracious. Our room was just OK. It needs some TLC. The noise from people being loud in the street at 2 :00 and 3:00 AM was disappointing . An uninsulated pipe in the wall/ceiling was also loud when a sink or toilet was used above us. The claw foot tub was uninviting due to significant chipped glazing. The shower head was far too low for my 6 ft height. A layer of dust lined the top of the towel rack. The overall size of the room was great. The window treatments were skimpy and blinds warped from the sun, should be replaced. Dresser drawers with missing hardware to open them. The bed was fairly comfortable, although it rocks when one person gets in or out of bed. This is a lot of detail and I hope it is helpful. We will definitely be back, we will just request a different room.
• 38dorianc (2/5): When Policy Replaces Hospitality - We had planned a special birthday weekend for my wife, complete with visits to national monuments, but unfortunately our plans changed unexpectedly. We canceled our reservation as soon as we knew we couldn’t make the trip. While I fully understand and respect the hotel’s cancellation policy, I was hoping for a bit more understanding regarding our situation. My wife was in tears while speaking with staff, even offering to pay a partial amount of the $500 fee, but was told that no exceptions could be made. Policies are necessary, but so is compassion. I hope management considers a more flexible, human-centered approach for future guests who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

• emilywOak (10/5): Delightful, Comfortable, One-of-a-Kind Stay in Downtown DC - Tabard Inn is by no means the fanciest place to stay in DC, but it's got to be one of the most unique and charming, super centrally located in Dupont Circle. I loved all the nooks and crannies, the vintage furniture in my room, and the one-of-a-kind feel of the place. But this isn't a place that sacrifices old-school charm for comfort: the bed was super comfy, the temperature control in the room just right, my room nice and quiet, and the shower updated with a rainfall shower head. Bonus: the food, drinks, and atmosphere in the restaurant and lounge were wonderful. Double bonus: Tabard Inn is employee-owned, so the people who work there have a vested interest in making it as great as it can be.
• ArtHistoryLover (8/5): Come for the food and stay for convenience - The dining areas are divine, both inside and in the courtyard, and the food is outstanding. The bar and the food merit a visit on their own. My room was a B-, comfortable but, like much of the interior, a bit faded. Yes, that IS part of the charm but I hope the Tabard gets spiffed up soon! The location can't be beat so that's another reason to stay.

• S200XRemilym (10/5): Do not miss the Tabard Inn - What a special place! Do not miss the Tabard Inn. I loved all the art/sculpture, the cozy lounge and the fact that is employee owned and has been run by women. This will be our spot when we come through DC going forward.
• Barbara (6/5): - The hotel is quaint, charming, and historic. That said, it is quite difficult to maneuver around with multiple stories, stairwells, and NO ELEVATOR. If you have any mobility issues, this is not the place for you. We had to schlep our bags from the curb, through the lobby and dining room, up 2 flights of narrow stairs. I kept getting lost due to the fact that the interior is a warren of levels and staircases. The staff is nice but clueless. They wanted to put us on the 3rd floor! We should have been told about the access issues before booking. We will never again book a place assuming it has an elevator because clearly some do not. A first floor room transfer helped a bit but it was still arduous to get to the room transversing the lobby, bar, and dining room all of which had stairs!

Two blocks from lots of dining and close to many sights. The food we had at the hotel was excellent. Will visit again!

• christals335 (10/5): A MUST- especially for those claw foots tubs - Absolutely fantastic place to stay. I’ve traveled all over and the Tabard Inn is similar to living in a gorgeous small apartment with a fantastic, freshly sourced daily menu prepared by a chef and an attentive, caring, kind staff ready to help you at any time. I visited as a wedding planner, coordinating a fabulous, micro wedding (also held here - truly an amazing space for a smaller wedding) and left feeling like family. Even Miss Carol, a semi regular resident, was a pleasure to talk with over early morning cappuccinos. Mike, Dave, Elena, Ivana, the venue bartending crew from the wedding (Sept 19), the servers, hosts, front desk girls- so kind and truly some of the best service I’ve ever received. I hope this place continues to have that as I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in DC now and will definitely be recommending weddings.

No one explained about one of the keys being used for the bathroom in the hallway. The waiter staff were nice but the foid in the testsurant was not particularly tasty.

Chair at desk was sunken and not suitable for working. No TVs just be aware of that. Meals in dining room were decent. Staff is very friendly.

• Dreamer06695096906 (8/5): Charming old European-style hotel - The Tabard Inn has the most charming bar and restaurant in DC. In a world of bland, corporate, soul-sucking Marriotts and Hiltons, the Tabard stands apart. My room was tiny but comfortable. However—and it pains me to say this—there is obvious maintenance that needs to done and can't be chalked up to “charm”. The carpet in the halls and stairwells is so dirty that I wanted to make an emergency call to Stanley Steemer. My bet is that the carpet has not been cleaned in my lifetime. The same goes for the upholstery on the chair in my bedroom. It isn’t “patina”—it’s just plain dirty. On the plus side, a stay at the Tabard is the closest thing you will ever find to a trip to Europe 50 years ago. As much as I love this place, it needs to do better.

• mjarema (8/5): Authentic, historic stay - We chose this inn because we wanted an authentic, historic stay on our first visit to DC, and it did not disappoint. We did not mind that there is no elevator: we could use the exercise! Breakfast on the covered patio was lovely and we made friends every time we had drinks at the bar. A few notes: the sheets could use a refresh and a multi-device charger dock would be recommended. Bathing in room 42 was a bit like showering in a ziploc bag ;)
• halfmoonlou (10/5): The only place I’ll stay in D.C. ever again - I only want to stay at the Tabard Inn when I’m in DC. This was my first experience at the Tabard Inn and it won’t be my last, not only is the building full of history, it’s one of a kind character and charm was everything. Each room is different. We stayed in the purple room on the top floor, that has a fireplace, clawfoot tub, chaise lounge, a skylight that lets natural light in to illuminate the walls covered in art and the antique furniture. There was three flights of stairs to get up to, but who cares. We saw some of the other rooms on our way up and down and they are all so unique. We had a quick dinner & cocktails in the lounge but we’re in a hurry to make it to an event. The food was incredible, so much flavor. We didn’t get a chance to eat here again, but we will next time we’re in town.

This Inn is historic and is beautifully decorated and well staffed. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and the location is perfect if you want to access any area of Washington DC.

• Devorah (4/5): - I understand that this is a historic property, but that is not a sufficient reason to neglect basic upkeep, like peeling linoleum on the sinks and tub. The bathroom was not especially clean, and there is a rubber mat in the tub that is unappealing. There are no outlets near the bed, so I had to charge my phone/alarm clock at a distance (no clocks either). Just two thin pillows for a full bed. No fridge or TV. No elevator. The worst part is the life-size adult doll that stared up at me from the lobby area.

There's nowhere like it, and it's always first on my list of recommendations when people ask where they should stay in DC.

• jodysE1257GO (10/5): Fantastic room, restaurant, location, staff & rate; artsy & pretty. Highly recommend - Fabulous, funky, friendly place and a fantastic stay. The entire hotel is steeped in quircky appreciation of art, history, culture, murals, and stunning antique furniture. The room is spacious and the staff is gracious. The one surprise - NO TV!! That's ok, b/c I loved walking around and admiring all the art - and after all the walking in DC, it was nice to just relax at night. The hotel staff were genuinely hospitable and helpfu and the location is superb. The room was confortable and clean; they provided all tne necessities (towels, shampoo et. al., filtered water) and coffee at the entrance every morning. We had breakfast or lunch every day and the restaurant is delicious!! Such a pleasant atmosphere, too - definitely sit on the (covered) patio when you dine. The food prices are reasonable; and the room rates are better than all the chain hotels in the area. I was able to self-park my car through the hotel for a great price, too, and it was so convenient to come and go from the parking lot. This is definitely my new "Go-To" destination in DC. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

If you want a hotel with a gym and pool and long corridors with ice machines this is not the place for you. If you want a hotel that is unlike any other, with art and antiques everywhere, and a good bar and restaurant, then this is the place for you.

Giving guests a $10.00 voucher to the restaurant is a great incentive to eat in a very enjoyable and appetizing restaurant. So many wonderful things to say about Tabard! I loved it for staycations when I lived in Washington and enjoy it now when I get to visit. Thanks!

• jska2020 (2/5): Disappointing! - We stayed at the Tabard Inn in Washington, D.C. for two nights recently, booking our reservation through Expedia. Our decision was largely based on the property's impressive 9.0 rating from reviews. While we chose the most affordable room option on Expedia, we never expected to be treated as second-class guests. From the start, our experience was disappointing. Upon check-in, we were not given a welcome flier, which we later discovered included important information such as complimentary morning coffee and Wi-Fi access instructions. Additionally, we were not offered the $10 breakfast voucher that, according to hotel policy, is supposed to be provided to all guests at check-in. Our room faced the noisy front street, and the curtains were defective, letting in a significant amount of light at night. The room lacked basic amenities like a TV and even a telephone to contact the front desk. The bathroom did not have a door—only a curtain for privacy—and the bathtub was in poor condition, with its finish completely peeled off. By the second afternoon, our room had still not been serviced. When we called the front desk, a staff member was sent to clean, but upon finding the bathroom occupied, she left and never returned. When we followed up, the front desk refused to send anyone back to complete the service. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect the glowing reviews or the 9.0 rating. I strongly advise future guests to reconsider booking here. The Tabard Inn may not meet your expectations for comfort, service, or hospitality.
• Eileen (6/5): - They put our room on the fourth floor and we had to walk up three flights of stairs, carrying our luggage because there was no elevator. It was very conveniently located near the subway and many different venues.

• L2167LHsp (10/5): Gorgeous vintage style inn - Amazing vintage style inn with very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spotless and had very unique and interesting antique style furniture. We booked the penthouse suite, and it was definitely worth it! The room booking also came with a $10 off meal voucher for the tavern which we spent on a delicious brunch! Would definitely recommend to a friend and stay here again!
