- 249StuartH (4/5): Disappointed. Booked 6 months in advance, family split over floors, and poorly managed throughout. - The architecture is beautiful, and that is where the positives end.
We booked this hotel more than six months in advance, yet on arrival our family was split across two different floors. In a hotel built around the idea of shared communal spaces on each floor, that matters. It immediately took away the ability for us to enjoy the stay together as a family in the way the hotel’s own concept is meant to work. What made it worse was that, rather than taking responsibility or showing any real understanding, the blame was effectively passed back to me. No effort was made to even attempt to correct this.
The biggest disappointment, however, was the service. On our first night, my wife asked for help with a restaurant and some basic assistance, and instead of being properly helped she was dismissed and left to work it out for herself. For a hotel at this level, that is simply not good enough.
The whole place seems designed around minimalism at the expense of function. The lighting is poor, the bedside socket placement is badly thought through, and even simple things become unnecessarily awkward. The communal coffee areas sound nice in theory, but in practice they are fiddly and unreliable. On two floors the espresso machines were not working, and when I went to make a coffee there was no milk or creamer available. Basic details were repeatedly missed.
Other irritations kept adding up. The lifts are painfully slow. Booking an airport transfer was more difficult than it should ever have been. Staff often seemed unknowledgeable, and to top it off, the front desk shuts at 9pm, which feels absurd for a hotel of this supposed standard. We were even made to come down to reception to settle a taxi bill, only to then be told that we would need to pay the driver ourselves the next day. Even as we were leaving in a hurry, staff kept asking for the room keys back. Because our family had been split across floors, we had been given more than 12 keys in total, and the whole exchange felt as though we were being treated with suspicion. It was ridiculous and a poor final impression.
This is a hotel that looks special in photographs but does not work properly in reality, either in design or in service. Behind the attractive architecture, the actual guest experience was deeply disappointing.
- Madward (10/5): Japanese immersion! - If you want to be fully immersed on arrival in a Japanese experience this is the right place. Full on Japanese…. Which we enjoyed. Great location in quiet area. Western breakfast a bonus. We went half board which for 3 nights was too much Japenese food so would suggest dinner 1 night and then head out the other nights. 1 dinner is enough as they do repeat the menu which would be a criticism but overall a super place to stay.
- M7541RNfernandom (4/5): Beautiful hotel, but serious issues with unexpected charges and communication - I recently stayed at HOSHINOYA Tokyo and unfortunately my experience ended up being very disappointing.
The property itself is beautiful, but two situations during my stay left a very bad impression. I checked in on Wednesday at 3:30 pm, briefly dropped my luggage in the room, and went out to explore the city. When I returned later that evening (around 8:00 pm), staff told me there was damage to a bamboo window panel in the room and said I was responsible for it. The problem is that I had only been in the room briefly after check-in to leave my belongings before heading out, so I never had the chance to inspect the room beforehand. Despite explaining this, I was still required to pay for the repair.
Another issue happened with a spa booking. I had scheduled a massage but called the front desk on Friday morning around 9:50 am to cancel it. The staff member I spoke with told me it was fine and confirmed there would be no charge. Later that same day, however, I was informed that the cancellation would not be honored and that I still had to pay. I spent quite a while speaking with different staff members trying to explain the situation, but in the end they insisted on charging me anyway.
After these experiences, I honestly started to feel uncomfortable staying in the room, knowing that I might be held responsible for things I hadn’t done. That feeling really affected what should have been a relaxing stay.
What made this even more disappointing is that we were there on our honeymoon. For a hotel that positions itself as a luxury experience, I expected clearer communication and better handling of situations like this.
I hope management looks into these situations, because guests should not have to deal with unexpected charges or conflicting information from staff.
- K9453BSstever (4/5): Poor Hospitality and Location - This hotel is beautifully designed, but it is set between office buildings in a zone with limited evening activities and limited light. It is not possible to open the room shades without encountering office workers looking back in. The young staff is not helpful when asked for recommendations and they spend much of their time looking into their I-pads. The hotel is also very rigid for dining in-room and breakfast requiring reservations for both. TThe rooftop onsen baths were not well kept -- with clumps of wet used towels left unattended. There is a stairway to the Metro nearby but most of the lines are a half-mile or more walk underground. Unless you are in Tokyo for a business meeting at a nearby office building I would not recommend this hotel. his hotel had the worst hospitality of any hotel or restaurant we visited in Japan.

- jamaljaber (4/5): My stay at the hotel was quite disappointing - Like many others, I was influenced by TikTok and Instagram videos that made this look like a must-visit hotel. Unfortunately, my experience did not match what I imagined.
To be fair, the hotel has a beautiful aesthetic, an excellent location next to a subway station, and the onsen is truly wonderful — a great way to end the day. However, despite these positives, several issues made my stay fall far below the standard I expect from a five-star property, especially one paid for in advance.

Early Check-In & Check-Out Experience
We arrived early from Kyoto and asked for early check-in. In most five-star hotels around the world, early check-in is offered complimentary if rooms are available. Instead, after checking, the staff returned with a quoted fee for just a couple of extra hours — nearly $100. Considering I was staying for 11 nights, this felt unreasonable. If no rooms had been available, I would have understood completely, but charging such an amount made it feel like they were trying to squeeze every last yen.
The same thing happened during check-out. The standard check-out time is 12 pm, and extending it by only one hour also required an additional charge. This is simply not the level of hospitality I expect from a luxury hotel.

Room Amenities & Housekeeping
There were several smaller issues that, when combined, affected the overall experience:
• Water: Instead of providing a standard number of bottled waters daily, the room had only a glass jug, and guests were expected to refill it from the floor pantry.
• Housekeeping: On the day of arrival, we were asked to choose between two cleaning options. They do not provide a full standard five-star room cleaning daily — only once every few days.
• Lighting & Room Design: The Japanese sliding partitions on the windows, while aesthetically pleasing, do not fully block out light. If, like me, you prefer a completely dark room, this will be an issue. Street lights and nearby building lights shine through at night, and with the morning sun it becomes even brighter (no blackout).

Guest Support & Service
Aside from the check-in/check-out situation, most of my other requests were either declined or simply not supported. For example:
• I asked if they could exchange my coins for bills — something my previous hotel in Kyoto did easily — but I was told they do not offer that service, and that I should “just spend it or go to a temple.”
• I requested assistance with booking a specific restaurant, but they said they could not help.
Individually, these may seem minor, but together with other small inconveniences, they created a clear sense that the hotel does not provide the level of service expected from a luxury property.

Final Thoughts
If I could go back in time, I would choose an international five-star hotel instead, and simply visit an onsen for the day — or maybe stay one night in a ryokan just for the experience. For the price paid and the expectations set by social media, this stay did not meet the standards of a true five-star hotel.

We stayed in a monastery on a a previous visit and upon reflection, that’s a good analogy for the service. We did not feel welcome there and we did not feel welcome here.

* Several reviews complained about the shoe removal upon entry, didn’t bother us, it’s a typical Japanese custom - and a big benefit of it is housekeeping knows when you’ve left the room - no door knocking or bothering with DND signs
Here’s why not 5 star - at least not for westerners
* Staff are not professionals and all but one or two speak any English
* Required to make most requests via email - took me awhile to figure out it as because of the lack of English and responses were from a chat bot - experienced this before arrival and during our stay
* Lost of rules - Most requests - the answer was no, or a ridiculous charge - e.g. ¥9000 for 1 hour late checkout - usually an hour is gratis
* Asked for an early breakfast and we were told to go to 7-11
* Beautiful corner room - Can’t open shades - look right into an office building on both sides
* No concierge- can’t recommend restaurants - refused to make restaurant reservations in advance- big issue if don’t speak Japanese - several restaurants won’t take reservations from non-Japanese tourists
* Required to book breakfast 24 hrs in advance, annoying
* No turn down service

Beautiful breakfast areas, though not very good quality or choice, but you must book your slot the day before (which was annoying as we were not told this) - and woe betide you if you’re late!
However, please not that the rooms can be a bit claustrophobic as they look straight into an adjacent office building.
Great location and attentive though somewhat inflexible service.

- Excursion60860354530 (10/5): Amazing Urban Ryokan in Heart of Tokyo - This place is amazing - from the tea service at check in, to the daily sake sampling, to the traditional musical performances in the lobby. Sure, the polyester kimonos are a bit kitchy, but the attention to detail in the aesthetic of the hotel from the grass mat floors to the natural surface walls, rocks and natural furniture are all stunning. We added the traditional breakfast and dinner options and had a private chef and waiter in a private room in the hotel guests-only restaurant in the lower level of the hotel. Very memorable experiences, as is the rooftop onsen with open air skylights and serene quality atmosphere. I asked for flowers for our anniversary and the hotel provided the nicest bouquet ever. There are tea and snack break rooms on every floor and the rooms have automatic blinds and continue the public area lean natural quality aesthetic in furnishings. The hotel is a little expensive but by no means the most expensive for this amazing city. If you are looking for a memorable, quiet high-end oasis, this hotel is for you.

The idea of an onsen in the city sounded great, but the reality? Not so much. There are plenty of onsens within a short train ride that offer breathtaking views and actual hospitality. Here, the so-called “Zen” experience apparently also includes making you feel about as welcome as an uninvited guest at a private dinner.
I arrived after a long flight from the US in the morning on a business trip and was looking forward to my Hoshinoya experience. Little did I know that at Hoshinoya Tokyo, the door policy rivals Manhattan’s trendiest clubs. After a 14-hour flight from the U.S., I arrived early, which is common, and which most high-end hotels handle with a little grace. Not here. Instead, I wasn't even invited past the entrance hallway, and all I got after a lengthy confirmation process that I actually had a reservation was: “We can store your luggage. Please come back at 3 pm.” No invitation to the lobby, no refreshment, not even a bottle of water. Just a cheery “Sorry, sir, hotel policy.” Only after some persistence and basically ignoring the door staff, was I able to make my way to the lobby and actually speak to someone. Forget about even a sip of water or a wet towel for refreshment.
And by the way, “Sorry, sir” should really be printed on the business cards here. It’s their catchphrase. By the end of my stay, I found it hilarious. Ask for anything — literally anything — and you’ll get the same answer. “Sorry, sir.” Room early? “Sorry, sir.”, "Rooftop Kendo experience, "Sorry sir, booked. Can I bring a guest for breakfast? "Sorry, Sir, not possible. I checked with my manager. Do you know how to get to the Sumo arena? "Sorry, Sir". Ask for about anything and you'll hear “Sorry, sir.” Actual service? “Sorry, sir.” Even a half-hour early check-in, just in case the room would have been cleaned and ready, "Sorry, Sir." "Sir, we have to charge you extra, an early arrival fee, sorry, sir, hotel policy. "Even for half an hour?" Sorry, Sir, hotel policy, sorry, Sir".
For fun, I almost asked if they’d credit me for checking out early — you know, since I wasn’t allowed to check in even one minute early without paying extra. I didn’t, but the thought carried me through the jet lag.
The Stay: Monastery Vibes (But Not in a Good Way)
Rooms? Minimalistic, but gorgeous, yes. Slippers? Women’s size — for a grown man. Towels? Rationed like they’re a scarce national resource. Common spaces? Silent, barren, minimalistic, amenities are completely absent. Gym, next door, but "Sorry, Sir, need to pay extra". A bar, or anything similar, does not exist. Breakfast? A strictly timed 15-minute reservation window that feels more like reporting for military duty than a morning meal. And forget flexibility. Sleep in an extra 30 minutes? Nope, you signed up for 7:45. Want to actually enjoy breakfast? Too bad, it’s minimal, bland, and you’ll probably head to a nearby café afterward, like I did.
The “experiences” like Kendo sword training? Booked. The staff? Think of Google Translate with a smile. The concierge service was less of a “local expert” and more of a “let me Google that for you, sir.” I asked about my Sumo tickets that StubHub had shipped to the hotel — first answer: “Sorry, sir, nothing here.” I almost got on the phone to call and try to blame it on StubHub and ask for my money back, but I thought I would try another concierge staff. Second try with another staff member: “Oh yes, here’s your envelope, Sorry Sir.” Confidence inspiring, right?
The Onsen: A Square of Sky. Yes, there’s an onsen. No, it’s not special. Imagine sitting in a bath, staring up at a 4x4 square of Tokyo sky through a hole in the ceiling. No chairs, no lounge area, not even a bench to sit on. Just dip, dry, and leave. Weirdest setup I’ve ever seen. I think that throughout my entire 2-day stay, I spent most of my time in the room. I may have spoken fewer than 10 sentences (not conversations) with anyone, including the staff. I was ready to take some antidepressants at the end of my stay and even a subway ride felt like being alive again.
Final Word: Unless You Crave “Sorry, Sir”. Unless your dream vacation is to pay luxury rates for a silent retreat where your main interaction is being told “sorry, sir” on repeat, skip this place. Tokyo has dozens of hotels that understand the basics: hospitality, flexibility, and making a guest feel welcome. And for onsens? Hop on a train and head to the mountains. You’ll thank yourself later.
By the way, I would give this place one star for the price, but a few of the staff members really tried and were exceptionally friendly.

- John (4/5): - I had high expectations for this property and have been wanting to stay since it’s opened, finally got our chance recently and was pretty disappointed. Some of these comments are just personal preference vs actual problems with the room/ staff. Firstly we checked out after 2 nights. We were scheduled to stay 6. Our room smelt musty, was incredibly damp ( towels wouldn’t dry, clothes become musty and moist to touch and the room was incredibly humid. We asked for a dehumidifier and they kindly obliged and it pulled out 5 litres of water over night, unfortunately it didn’t help as it just expelled hot air and made the room warm and uncomfortable. After multiple attempts and being told they were full, they offered us other rooms and unfortunately they all seem to have the same issues. They said it was because it was humid out, but we didn’t have any issues at the 4 other hotels we stayed at during our trip, and it was humid everywhere. The staff seemed indifferent about the situation. A far cry from the Intercontinental properties we stayed at. The rooms were gorgeous and the hotel itself was beautiful. But lots of little rules and quirks and the room issue would stop me from every staying there again.

- Brian (10/5): Quirky luxury hotel with lovely staff - Our family of 5 stayed 5 nights and we loved it. The stay was a lovely departure from the usual luxury hotels. Tatami mats everywhere and the staff truly try to embody Omotenashi (Japanese hospitality). All the staff made a real effort to speak with us. The lounges on each floor are equipped with lots of treats. You can tell the staff truly cares about your stay, with Miyo, in particular, spending time with our family to explain things to us, as this was our first visit to Japan. It is a quirky place, so embrace it for that. They even daily hang wind chimes in the trees that adorn the entrance.
This hotel is part of Honshino Resorts - a 100+ year old Japanese company, still run by the same family.
We'd definitely stay again!
- Sanjeeve (8/5): Not quite 5 stars despite the expense and hype. - Great service, but hard to find people sometimes as it feels very quiet and isolated on the floors and in the onsen. Asked for a local sushi recommendation because their sushi restaurant was closed and the place they recommended turned out to be terrible. They were kind enough to make the reservation, though. The room itself was a bit run down considering the expense and the 5 stars: chipped paint, musty bathroom odor. And the in-room amenities were a bit lacking.

- dr_yousuf (10/5): The World of HOSHINOYA Tokyo - This is our second day at HOSHINOYA Tokyo. The minute we stepped into the hotel we were transported to the time of Luxury Ancient Japan.
First of all you have to takeoff your shoes before even getting to the reception to check in, and a dedicated attendant will take and store it for you. During your time inside the hotel you will be walking barefooted or with socks only.
Our room s on the 12 floor is something else, and I will let the pictures of one of them do the talking.
The staff are the friendliest I’ve ever encountered, and very eager to assist you in anyway they can.
- Jason (10/5): Hoshinoya - yes stay here - Amazing experience at a high-rise ryokan. As explained to us, a ryokan is traditionally an inn in Japan. At the Hoshinoya, this translates into a large common area with an assortment of tea, coffee and snacks available 24/7.
Room was large and comfortable. Bed was comfortable. Service was friendly and reliable. The hot springs on the roof is a unique amenity.
In sum, yes, you should stay here.

Here is my rest of feedback, stay here if and only if you are looking for traditional Japanese ryokan experience. You will need to leave all of your shoes at the front t entrance, have to walk rest on socks and no barefoot. Leaving shoes and asking for it every time you exit becomes tiring. This is not a hotel it is Ryokan, so no multiple restaurants etc. No fitness center and you need to pay to use one nearby, breakfast ($40) lunch and dinner need to be reserved 24hrs ahead. It is amongst commercial space not restaurants etc like Shibuya or Ginza etc. barely any options for vegetarian or vegans.

- Paulo (6/5): - This hotel is beautifully designed. Detailed and a peaceful escape into a modern version of a traditional Japanese Ryokan.
Having stayed at several traditional Ryokans, we knew this setting well and looked forward to an upscale modern accommodation.
I would have given it 5 stars but here is where it broke down for us.
At check in, we were asked if we wanted breakfast in the morning and were given a choice of a Japanese style Breakfast or a Western style breakfast.
My partner chose the Japanese and I decided to go with the Western style since by this point, I wanted something familiar after delving deep into Japanese cuisine.
At breakfast, everything seemed fine until my Western breakfast arrived. It wasn’t western at all. More than half the items were traditional Japanese breakfast foods with only some breads, yogurt and scrambled eggs as a hint to western style breakfast.
I didn’t eat most of it, couldn’t, wasn’t in the mood for another Japanese breakfast.
When I questioned this at check out and said I didn’t get what was sold, Just an explanation of what the hotel represented and breakfast was their interpretation of Western.
I told them, it wasn’t western style breakfast and they should not sell it as such. Still no adjustment to the bill and blank stares of incompetence to resolve the issue.
At this level, pricing & hotel of this stature, you should be able to resolve issues when they arise. Service otherwise goes smooth as long as there are no issues.

From taking shoes off at the entrance to Private Dining in the Basement with Guardian Stones to Open air Onsen and Kendo on the Rooftop. Where do we begin/end? Thanks Hoshinoya Tokyo we dream of our next visit. If there is a drawback, Non-hotel guests only allowed to stay in Lobby/Lounge. But amazing Privacy. Who would ever leave? Good luck and enjoy!
- NYCdweller212 (2/5): Lack of customer service or compassion - Due to a family emergency, we had to reschedule our trip to Japan hours before our flight was set to leave. We were supposed to stay at HOSHINOYA for three nights and it was definitely a splurge for us. We reached out to HOSHINOYA as soon as we were back home, which was after check-in time had passed, to ask if we could receive a discount or partial credit to rebook for our rescheduled trip.
Every other hotel we reached out to gave us a full refund or credit. However, HOSHINOYA coldly informed us we would not receive anything of the like from them.
We weren’t looking for a full refund or full credit (despite other hotels offering that!) but we were surprised by the lack of customer service or compassion.
We’ll be staying at a different hotel for our rescheduled trip, and hope that hotel will have better customer service than what we have experienced at HOSHINOYA.

- toddt709 (2/5): Beware the Fine Print: HOSHINOYA Tokyo’s Policy Isn’t as Flexible as It Looks - I recently had an eye-opening experience with HOSHINOYA Tokyo, and I’m sharing this not to complain, but to help others make an informed decision—especially if you’re booking through American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR).
My reservation was clearly marked Flexible Cancellation on the AMEX site. Dig a little deeper, though, and you’ll find a fine-print clause: a 10% penalty applies to changes more than 4 days out, and it becomes 100% within 4 days. I was well outside that window—10 days before check-in—when I simply needed to shorten my stay by three nights.
But here’s the catch: the hotel doesn’t allow modifications. I was told—via AMEX—that the only option was to cancel and rebook, which would trigger the 10% fee. In my case, that meant $1400 for not staying. (Total reservation was $14,000 based on number of rooms).
I wasn’t trying to get out of my reservation. I was still planning to stay—just for fewer nights. Their policy doesn’t clearly state “you must cancel and rebook”; it just says “changes are subject to penalty,” which most reasonable people would interpret as a partial fee. Not a full $1400.
To make matters worse, before I canceled, the dates I wanted were sold out. But after I canceled (and forfeited my money), those same dates suddenly became available again. So HOSHINOYA took the fee and put the rooms back on the market, when they could have instead just let me modify my reservation and charge me a smaller fee (which I would have accepted).
Let me be clear: this was not a non-refundable reservation, and I don’t blame AMEX or the FHR program. The core issue is this hotel’s rigid and misleading policy, which doesn’t reflect the level of hospitality or customer-orientation you might expect at this tier.
Bottom line: If you’re considering HOSHINOYA Tokyo through FHR, make sure you:
• Read every line of the cancellation/change policy.
• Understand that “Flexible Cancellation” may not mean what it sounds like.
• Have excellent Cancel-For-Any-Reason (CFAR) insurance, or
• Be ready to roll the dice.

I’ve travelled to some of the best hotels in the world and I understand when a hotel charges you 1000’s per night when the whole experience is great. However Hoshinoya is NOT that.
I wish I read these reviews before I went because I experienced the same issues as other people. I went for my honeymoon and they refused to help book anything for us until we arrived. I asked them to even take a deposit and I’d agree to a no-show fee (they already had my card details), but they refused until we arrived at their hotel. Lo and behold, when we arrived, the places we wanted to go to eat were booked up and their concierge just suggested going to a local spot instead. The concierge service is non-existent which is unforgivable when you charge thousands a night, like they do.
We checked in at 3:30pm and left at 6am the next day (ie we didn’t even stay 24 hours). They refused to give us any breakfast before we left, which I understand if the kitchen was closed but we spoke to their front desk in advance and asked if they could just give us some fruit that we would put in our own container. They agreed, with no discussion about paying extra, but then asked us to pay when we were checking out. Really cheeky and lacks all common sense!
Again, shocking from a hotel that charges as much as they do.
They have communal areas for tea and water (this isn’t in your room) which is really strange and not comfortable when you want to just relax in your room. It felt like I was back at university and sharing a kitchen with other students.
Finally, we told them what time we would be checking out but when we arrived at the desk at 6am in the morning, no one was there and it was completely derelict. We went down to exit and the lady that hands us our shoes then panicked that we didn’t officially check out and started taking measures to call someone to do the check out. By this point, I wasn't willing to risk missing my flight for their ineptitude.
Overall, a really really disappointing time here. Poor service, MASSIVELY overpriced, and the hotel offered no comfort. In actuality, it negatively impacted what was meant to be the last day of our honeymoon.
Never staying here again, and will tell everyone to avoid this place and choose the other major hotel groups that give better service without charging as much.
- Ryan (10/5): Above and Beyond Service - This was such a top-tier experience. The service was unbelievable. The sheer number of staff people who could not be more helpful. I was a first-time visitor to Japan from New York City, and they made all the right moves in terms of comfort and anticipation of our group’s needs. In fact, I hurt my foot pretty seriously on the first day of our stay, and three staff members helped me immediately - one with a special Japanese ice pack and two others with finding the best English speaking orthopedic doctor and even with ordering me a special walking boot from Amazon Japan when the doctor did not have my size. I’ve been in a lot of hotels in a lot of cities, and I would rank this in the top 3 I’ve ever experienced.

We were first time visitors, Hoshinoya Tokyo provided a complete luxurious immersion experience of the Japanese culture. We knew that we didn’t want to stay at a western style hotel and what better than high-rise ryokan in the heart of Tokyo!
The staff were professional and polite. All spoke English. There were ample cultural experiences throughout the day to keep you busy. The omakase restaurant was amazing the best meal I had in Japan! The onsen is the gem perfect to rest after a busy day. The rooms are a mix of luxury and traditional. The bed was one of the most comfortable I slept in my life. Overall I didn’t want to leave and highly recommend the Hoshinoya Tokyo to anyone visiting Tokyo.

We loved the onsen on the 17th floor (apparently the hotel was specifically built directly on top of a natural onsen), the daily 5.00 pm sake tastings and how peaceful this modern ryokan was. It’s a 15 - 20 minute walk down to Tokyo Station and Ginza and so if you’re looking for somewhere a little quieter and away from the crowds, this is well worth considering. Note that on a Sunday, given this is in the CBD, very little is open but that’s fine. You’re only a short walk away from the shops and restaurants to the south.

The hotel is a traditional Japanese hotel in the CBD area. We also tried the Sake tasting and traditional tea tasting. Very enjoyable. For anyone running the Tokyo Marathon in future the hotel is very close to the finish line. The onsen in the hotel is also a great experience. We look forward to staying again!

The hotel is lit so dark purposefully so you can’t see the filth around you. By day 5 they had yet to clean the shower, tidy any table, floor & wipe any surface including the bathroom counter. You’re provided 1 single towel a person for a single service daily for a 5 star hotel. You can’t be 5 star if you don’t service basic areas of a hotel room yet alone twice a day. They don’t answer their phones. You want to secure a taxi in advance of going to get your shoes on good luck. Not a sole knows where this hotel is when you give them their “card” to get you home. It doesn’t detail the address properly and no taxi driver understood it. We left early and they didn’t even question why we were checking out early rather an employee followed us out the door in their slippers asking what we were doing and where our room keys were as if we planned to come back and use their dirty single facility the Onsen. They have yet to reach out as to why we cut our trip early. I’d never recommend this hotel brand to anyone. If you want an ounce of service and basic cleanliness this place is not for you. They fake the feeling upon check in you’re going to be taken care of by having 12 staff standing behind a “front desk” which you will never see again as it’s not on the entry level. They need to learn what customer service & 5 star cleanliness looks like.

From the moment you step into the serene lobby, you're transported from the bustling streets of Tokyo to a tranquil sanctuary. The minimalist design is stunning, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort. My room was a masterpiece of space-saving design, with a surprisingly spacious feel despite its compact size. The attention to detail is exquisite, from the high-quality toiletries to the perfectly placed lighting. One minor point, the location, while convenient, isn't in the immediate heart of the action.
- White144 (6/5): Sadly disappointing - Sadly this hotel suffers from an identity crisis - its neither a hotel or a Ryokan and we were disappointed after staying in other 5* hotels and Ryokans in Japan. The design and decor is stunning and the room was lovely, but the reality of having breakfast served in the room just doesn't work - the seating is uncomfortable, you have to commit to a time the day before and then all the dirty dishes are left until the room is cleaned!
We opted for the Western breakfast as we had already quite a lot of japanese breakfasts, and it was very poor. Onion soup, fermented chicken and scrambled egg with sausage is a very strange take on "Western' and no choice, so we ended up going out for coffee and another breakfast each day.
The communal area on each floor is nice and it would have been better to have a small buffet there for breakfast perhaps. Snacks and drinks were great but again we took them back to the room. The staff were friendly, but thier english was quite limited and only once did they use our names even though we stayed 3 nights - other hotels in Japan are amazing at doing that. They also didn't have a dedicated concierge so asking for directions and recommendations was slightly challenging.
There are a few good restaurants nearby and its a 10/15 minute walk to the station, Imperial Palace etc.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Minimalism and calm but dark without nature - Very severe, dark and minimalist without the balance of aesthetic views or nature. Shoji screen room had choice of closed interior with very dark mood lighting and black surfaces or open shoji with view of workers at their desk in a neighboring glass tower. I Could not even see the sky on the 9 th floor. The room has no thin shade so workers in other building able to see in room if you have shoui open. The Onsen very comfortable but depressing and tomb like. I kept thinking I was in a Star Wars Imperial Cruiser. No natural or aesthetic views from onsen except patch of sky in a chimney. One lone sad chrysanthemum in onsen. Black black. No bar, no obvious dining. Ok place for hot soak in the city and two night max. Corporate sterile location with not much in the neighborhood but good access to Metro Station. Staff very formal kind and attentive. Lovely people. Koto playing in lobby fantastic. Very calming place to recover from travel but don't stay too long or you will become natural light starved and maybe depressed.
- B8077QZmagalic (10/5): Uniquely beautiful - The hotel is incredibly beautiful. It’s a great experience as it had a ryokan feel in the heart of Tokyo. It’s very unique and luxurious. The rooms are very large, the king size bed was huge. The roof top onsen is to die for. The service is impeccable. Every detail has been studied to be refined. The only downside for me is the bathroom. Shower pressure was not great and a heated floor would have been good. The fact that the bathroom is in a glass case in the room is not ideal if one wants to stay in bed and sleep as even though you can make the glass obscur, light still goes through.

1. We stayed 3 nights. Even if you have the budget, wouldn't recommend staying much longer than that as some of the rituals get a bit tired after a couple days (such as taking off shoes when entering).
2. Room is overall nice but not super spacious and ours smelled a bit funky. Shower is good but not incredible. Bed is good.
3. Common area is nice and the snacks and drinks available were great.
4. Welcome/arrive felt high service and exclusive.
5. Onsen is nice and unique but would have liked to have a steam room or other facilities as well
6. We did the sake tasting and enjoyed it - would recommend.
7. Location is good and we did a lot on foot our first 2 days. Great to be near Ginza and train station.

When we arrived, there were four other females who were leaving. We had the place to ourselves. The open air ceiling was breathless. The common area had drinks, small rice cracker snacks, and single wrapped ice cream balls similar to small bon bons. Checkout was quick. Charged for hot springs usage for all in our party and a service fee. I knew about the fee from another review so I wasn’t shocked when it was approximately half the price of our room.
