Guest Reviews
- Anntoinette (6/5): - The property clearly exists for fishermen. While the owner is very pleasant and chatty about local attractions the property falls short for “sightseers” especially for the price. The walls are very thin and the guests next door checked in after 10pm and stomped and thumped around and I could easily make out their conversation. I will say that the bed was very comfortable!
- Jack (10/5): - The property was on the ocean shoreline.
The scene was excellent.
- Kaushik (8/5): - Clean room in a very scenic town
- Brad (6/5): - Pros: unbeatable location for the harbor, clean bedding, helpful staff. Cons: decor and room fixtures appear original from the 1960s–70s (compact kitchenette, older bathroom), which we found uncomfortable at the rate we paid. There were very few photos online — I’d recommend the host post recent images and clarify which rooms are renovated. Helpful for: fishermen or guests seeking a no-frills stay. Not ideal for: travelers seeking modern ‘coastal charm.’ I expected a lot more charm for the rate I paid.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Yeah everything was great, first time staying at Van Ripers
- Richard (8/5): - Just an overnight. Pretty basic, but clean, quiet and comfortable bed.
- rhonda (10/5): - Beautiful views. Friendly staff. Such a great place to stay.
- Melissa (10/5): - They were very friendly and actually saved me from not having a place to sleep 5000 miles from home so I'm very grateful to them
- paul (6/5): - it’s a motel not hotel, so manage your expectations when booking it. It’s expensive than it should be
- Zoe Ann (10/5): J - Wonderful stay. I wish we had planned a longer stay! Rooms were clean and comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. Lovely place to stay for a vacation!
- Bonnie (10/5): - Place is older but clean. This is a fishing village but it right on water with great views.
- Lee (10/5): - This is probably the best spot in the area and affordable too
- Leslie (10/5): Great service, clean room! - We booked a room here very last minute, and we got the last room available. Upon arriving, we were a little skeptical because it didn't look like anything had been renovated or replaced since the 1980s, besides the TV in the bedroom, but that actually ended up being totally fine. Everything worked well and was very clean - what more can you ask for? Great service by the staff? Yep, we got that, too. We will definitely stay here again and encourage anyone we know traveling up to the northern area of the peninsula to stay here as well.
- Oksana (8/5): - Hidden gem near Olympic National Park - very comfortable beds, hot shower, unique location
The only minus - heating was inadequate
Enjoyed our stay of 2 nights very much!
- nathan (10/5): - The staff was super friendly (Dave). The hotel is in a quiet fishing village where you might see eagles, seal, otters and whales.
- Kurt (4/5): - Always love Van Ripers. Check in was difficult as fishing was slow & nobody was home. No answer to phone calls to office & the number on the door; no answer & no return phone call. Almost had to book room across street if owner hadn't driven by when I was at front door. An answering machine for the main number would be great or perhaps just leaving the key in the room like other places do. Love Van Ripers otherwise
- Leslie (8/5): Out of the way stay in Sekiu - Rather a spartan place but clean and warm-meant for the fishing crowd for sure. Very quiet little place
- Leslie (6/5): - Our 2 small rooms (bedroom and kitchenette) were very clean and appeared recently painted/decorated.
Each room has a window; each window looks at another nearby part of the hotel, despite being only 100 feet from the bay. There are few lodging options in the area, outside the summer season. There is also an unexpected "reservation fee." Consider your choices carefully.
- George (10/5): - Every thing was great
- Claudine (6/5): - We did not see any staff except the maids for about 10 mins. The space was very small, but thats ok. We spent our time sightseeing n just used the space to sleep. The sunrise n sunset views are beautiful n majestic. Everything around this small town closed really early, around 5:00pm. Get everything you need before then or bring it with you. The best thing is it is right next to the water.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Room had a bad smell. Like someone was smoking couple of minutes before I go there. Pillows had some fur or hair. Lock didn’t work properly.
- Erica (4/5): - This property was great unless you have kids. We had a 2y/o and everyone there was up at 4am yelling and stomping around and the floors were paper thin. The people above us woke up fighting and then loud trucks at 5am it was awful. But very clean hotel.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Enjoyed our visit. Beautiful sunrise, fun to watch the fishing boats come and go. We stopped here as a midway point for exploring the peninsula. Value was good, we had a great room upstairs at the end facing marina. Kitchenette that we forgot to prep to use. A fishing town, so not fancy but was comfortable, clean and friendly.
- Leah (10/5): - It was perfect
I will definitely be back thank you so much.
- Anna (10/5): - We thoroughly enjoyed the quiet charm and friendly hospitality of this hotel in a stunning part of the state. The people were helpful and friendly. Would stay here again!
- Thomas (10/5): - It was nicer than what we were expecting!
- Sarah (10/5): Very clean & cozy - I was hesitant when we pulled up to the property. It's older and it a little fishing bay. But the room was VERY clean, and I am picky about cleanliness. It's older, so there is rust and weird caulk in places but it was so clean. It is also really cozy. I wanted to go somewhere else with a bigger bed for me, my husband, but it was fine. The TV is in the kitchen, so no watching TV in bed, but it was really nice to be at a place that felt comfy. I would stay here again.
- Brian (8/5): - It was great litttle fishing town
- Usama (8/5): - Property is set in a quaint town with very nice and hospitable people. The view from our unit was spectacular. Looking at the water across to Canada and fishing boats on the water was a very scenic view.
- Robert (8/5): - Quiet, clean and comfortable!
- Edward (8/5): - This is a basic hotel with nothing fancy. Our double-bed room had a kitchenette, breakfast table and very small shower. It is in a very small fishing village.
- Gay (8/5): - Scenery is great. Right on the water, and we saw several bald eagles. Room is rustic with a full kitchen. It was very peaceful, with quiet time at 10:00 pm.
- Ross (6/5): - Quiet place, old rooms but clean enough. Beautiful spot to exist
- Joshua (10/5): - Nice local spot
- Andrew (10/5): - it was easy to book and the staff let us in late at nite and we fished in the morning and checked out no problem and the manager gave me a great price on the room thanks guys
- Beth (10/5): - They are very accommodating we enjoyed our stay! Friendly staff and clean!
- Mary (10/5): - Very basic, but we loved the view!! Very quaint.
- QING (10/5): - We are happy to stay in this motel, the location is good, and convenient.
- Larry (8/5): - This is basically a fishing community this time of year. Lodging was right at the docks and had a rustic feel of an authentic fishing village. Liked see the boats come and go
- Lesley (10/5): Great place to stay - The room has everything you need with a small refrigerator, kitchen, and smart TV. The views are beautiful from the room. They also have great customer service!
- Yuchen (8/5): - Really impressed with this little property.
Pros:
- Room had everything we needed.
- Includes a little kitchen with dishes and everything. I can see this being a little home away from home for fishermen or others.
- Great price.
- Location was perfect for what we needed for a road trip through the Olympic Penisula - centrally located.
Cons:
- It got really hot in the room. We kept all the windows open in the room and just kept our curtains closed the entire time. That made it better but still quite toasty.
- No tub, just a shower - The shower also had a leaky faucet so we had to be creative with how to deal with the drippy drippy water noise.
- Arthur Esteban (8/5): - We enjoyed our night there, Sekiu was a very cute little town and the marina was nice too.
For what we paid, we wished the kitchen would have been slightly more equipped (bigger bowls, larger pots, drying rack for the dishes).
The room had a light musty smell, maybe airing it out from time to time would help, but maybe that is just part of being located 50 foot from the sea.
The staff was very nice and checkin was easy.
Overall, would have no problem recommending this motel for a short stay.
- Ekaterina (10/5): - Great stay, if we are in the area definitely will stay there highly recommend !
- Kandus (8/5): - Adequate
- Suzanne (10/5): - The property was clean and the views from the rooms were wonderful.
- Eric (10/5): Ripers rips - This room is small but cozy. It has a kitchen with everything you need to cook. It is close to the water. We will be back
- Cindy (10/5): - Van Riper's is a quaint, older motel used mainly by people staying there on a fishing vacation from what I can tell. The bed was comfortable, it was very quiet overnight, and we had nothing to complain about. It's older, and that shows, but everything worked and it was clean. There's a restaurant just across the road and up a bit, By The Bay Cafe, with astonishingly excellent food. Had one of the best omelettes of my life for breakfast there.
- Paul (8/5): - Beautiful spot
- Heather (10/5): - It was very nice. I wasn’t expecting much. But it was very clean and comfortable. I was running late for check in. I had spoken to the gentleman and he actually meet me in the parking lot and assisted me after hours to check in and make it easy for me in the morning.
- Arlette (10/5): - It’s a basic accommodation. No frills like jetted tubs and cozy bathrobes. But it’s clean. Bed comfortable. Small clean shower with good pressure. Coffee maker, fridge and microwave and 2 ring stove. Typically where fisherman stay. As a single female traveler, I would stay again. Ideal if needing a place while hiking in the area. Great bay cafe nearby with Salish Sea views. Surprisingly good tho basic.
- DAN (8/5): - This is not a 5 star resort, but that's not why we go here. They cater to fishermen and they provide exactly what we need. A reasonable priced place to stay, basic conviences, supplies we need and friendly knowledgable people. My 1st choice when I come to town.
- Kassy (8/5): - Property was amazing, and the small kitchen in the room was nice. I was there to visit someone in the correctional facility. The only thing I had an issue with was the bed. It was not very soft/comfortable.
- Kurt (10/5): - Always nice at Van Ripers...always have supplied kitchens & always clean.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Stunning view. Not much else. - The view is about all this place has going for it. And the view was really stunning. But the dude who checked me in was rude when I told him I thought I had pre-paid through the app. I knew the room would be bare bones, but no heat? In March? The space heater didn’t do the trick. The bed was also pretty awful - my back is killing me this morning. Literally no frills. Coffee maker but no coffee. Shower head came up to my chest, paper thin walls so I could hear every word of the conversation of the folks next door.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay on the bay. - Good experience. Nice check in. We were allowed to choose if we wanted upstairs or downstairs. Beautiful view of the bay- the best part. There was a full kitchen, although we didn’t use the stove, it might be nice for those who want to cook. We walked across the street to the cafe. The room was in need of updating. The bed wasn’t really comfortable and the blanket was old. The heating system is old, but we were provided a standing area heater as well. All together, we would stay there again. But, there aren’t many choices in the area during the off season. Also, it was nice that all rooms were no smoking and no pets- which was good for us because of allergies.
- Lakisha (10/5): - So peaceful with an amazing view. The gentleman up front was very pleasant. Rooms are up kept perfect for a weekend stay!
- Stefanie (6/5): - Positives: very clean, friendly staff, close to the ocean.
Negatives: heat was off & it took about 4 hours for it to get comfortable, overpriced, outdated 80's decor, tv did not work, blinds were torn, area around facility was very trashy.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Dated but clean - Dated furnishing, but room clean and comfortable, OK for a one-night stay. Needs some repairs (e.g., broken blinds).
- mike (6/5): - Liked the location
- kathleen (6/5): - Very dated.
- Barbara (6/5): - End of the season and it was obvious!
- Sandra (8/5): Basic but very clean! - Very basic older furniture but very clean and spacious! Loved the FULL kitchen with full sized refrigerator and freezer. Doesn't seem that there are a lot of dining options in town so having the full kitchen was great!
- Bob (8/5): Good enough and pleasant surprise. - This is an out of the way place in basically a fishing village. It’s great for where it is and what it is. Super friendly people, laid back one street village. Our room had no view, but walked outside for a marvelous sunrise looking down the throat of San Juan de Fuca, Sun rise over Vancouver Island as early fishermen left the marina. Idyllic in my book.
- Joseph (10/5): - Great view
- pui khin (8/5): - The room we stayed in has two rooms with two bed, one double and one twin, with a kitchenette that has all the cookware, dishes, and silverware. It was a great stay. Except parking near our room were all taken, but only 20 yards walk. great facility!
- Kristina (8/5): - Right on the beach
- Hach (4/5): - Old bed...
- Michele (8/5): - Great position and staff
- Pam (8/5): - There is not much to choose from in Sekiu, but this was at least a clean place. My husband was OK with it, but it felt like the inside of a mobile home with no pictures on the wall or any other touches. It had a full kitchen, but no carpet on the floor. I think it may be primarily used by people on fishing trips. It felt safe, but anything nice to look at was all outside.
- WALTER (10/5): - Clean and comfortable basic room, good firm bed, NO BEDBUGS. Friendly staff.
- Margaret (10/5): - The unit was fine for the one night we were there. We checked in late (made arrangements with front desk clerk who was very helpful and friendly) and everything was as she had said it would be. Only things negative were that the tv remote would not work (stuck on USA channel and a horrible violent movie!), but we had no one to ask how to fix it (office closes at 8pm), and no WIFI, but that could have been just our service provider.
We had a peaceful and great night!🙂
- Roger (6/5): - Nice place but beds and pillows were like sleeping on a cement slab! TV should have been in bedroom not in kitchen! It was clean and quiet!
- Christine (10/5): - Just what I wanted, comfortable, clean and serene
- Kurt (10/5): - As always, Van Ripers right on. Well stocked kitchen, clean, plenty of towels.
- Lisa (10/5): - Everything you need for a fishing get away!
- lowell (8/5): - Good trip. clean rooms, house keeping staff are great ! treated us well . comfortable. relaxed environment. Great for fishermen.
- Jon (10/5): - Great place to stay
- Larry (8/5): - How close your to the docks. The owners are super friendly. They have just what you need to fish with in the store.
- Bob (10/5): - Glen n staff were very friendly and helpful as usual.
- Daniel (8/5): - Just needed a convenient place to stay for one night and this was it. Just off the highway and about half an hour from Neah Bay. Staff was very friendly
- Ruth (10/5): Beautiful during off season - Definitely a place where many fisherman stay, but also nice for an off season getaway.
- morton (6/5): - No
- Kaye (6/5): - The first three restaurants I tried to go to were closed. It was 5:00 pm. I finally found a restaurant five miles down the road. It was ok. The view from my room was very pretty when you looked past the shoreline. There was a well stocked kitchenette. The room was outdated and it had the old cabin feel to it.
- April (10/5): - Met our expectations. View was gorgeous!
- Rais (2/5): - I arrived around 8pm and there was no one there to help me check in. They left a note with my name and room number on the giftshop door, which’s their office as well. There was no info about the room’s location or the key. Before walking to the buildings next to the giftshop, I wanted to see if my room was in this building. I saw stairs next to the giftshop and went up stairs with my luggage. A man approached me and asked “What you do here” in a very rude voice. I felt like I committed a crime being there. I immediately apologized as I feared for my life and told him that I was looking for my room. “Get out of here”, he said. I apologized again for causing inconvenience for him and ran through the stairs as felt threatened. I didn’t feel comfortable looking for my room anymore. I came back to my car to take a deep breath and process what just happened. I was hoping to see someone on the street, but there was no one. I slowly went to the next building and carefully looked for my room. I saw the room but was scared to open the door or even knock on it. With a fearful heart I knocked on the door and then opened it. I saw the room key on the table.
Next day, I learned that the man who treated me as a lesser person last night was the owner of this place, Glenn Teeter. I was disgusted. How could he treat me (his guest) so bad, like a criminal? This shows, Mr. Teeter is not a good person and he definitely doesn’t know how to treat people. Mr. Teeter doesn’t care for his guests.
- MIchele (8/5): - Quick friendly check in. It was like staying with friends. Amazing and very welcoming
- CHRISTOPHER (10/5): - Friendly staff. Everyone at Sekiu is nice and likes to wave to you and chat about fishing. I was working at a hospital in forks and luckily they had a room for me because there was not anything else available for 60 miles.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place for people who are going fishing. We were just in the area overnight checking out the beaches and NW coast. It was adequate for our needs and the small store was well stocked. We enjoyed walking the docks, watching the fishing boats and people and especially seeing the sunrise in the morning. Room was clean and nice to have a small kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, sink, kitchen table/chairs. Would have been nice to have a TV in the bedroom area instead of the kitchen but it's a place to be outdoors and enjoy the scenery!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The room was very clean. Shower was very small, probably 3.5 ft x 3.5 ft. The room had a stove, microwave and fridge. This place is NOT a resort and should not be called one! It is a motel!!! I only stayed for one night and I was pleased with the cleanliness of the room.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hostess was friendly and helpful
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location! Noisy rooms, thin walls.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Friendly staff who were able to give us some information about the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Full refrigerators (for me) is key/fully stocked kitchen & clean towels!
- sally (10/5): Best place to stay even kids rate it a 10 - This is a place that even my kids have rated a 10. Yes even they rate our hotel stays. Kitchen had everything, checked in late but they were more than helpful. We will definitely stay there again!! Everyone was super friendly from maid service to behind the desk. Eagles on the beach, the sound of waves, this is a place to relax. You can even BBQ there!!😁
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love having a full refrigerator! Also comfy beds. Well stocked kitchen (or at least adequate for fishermen!) Large coffee maker, toaster
- Annette (8/5): - Bed was a double not a queen but view is so great that it didn’t matter.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great view. Clean room. Lots of towels. TV that worked and in good condition. Great microwave. Stove that worked! Nice refer. Comfy beds
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good location in a small town on the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Beautiful views to be had. Comfortable bed. No restaurant or store open in Sekiu while I visited. Nearest that was open was in Clallam Bay. Wifi did not work due to construction of a new office. Owner seemed preoccupied with that project but was otherwise friendly.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This place was great except that the internet was out due to renovations, which I needed in order to check in with family and to use my Netflix/Amazon entertainment accounts for the night. This is the first time I've had to suffer through cable TV ads in over 20 years. haha However, the owner did give me directions to the local library where I could access the wifi and keep family updated on my ETA.
- Dave (10/5): - We absolutely LOVED it! We went off season (late October) with another couple and rented rooms 5 and 5A. This gave us the complete bottom waterfront balcony and all of the amenities to prepare or just eat all of our meals in comfort with a million dollar view either out on the porch or just inside the room by big picture windows.
