Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): - Everything, comfy well equipped room, very clean.
Value for money on food purchased.
Very friendly staff.
- Mona Helland (9/5): - Sjarmerende overnattingssted over pub, hyggelig betjening og god frokost
- Amanda (7/5): Great location would visit again - Couldnt get wi fi to connect and pillows to hard
- Brian (7/5): Great food, service, cleanliness and location for golf. - A great location for golf the next day. The food was excellent and great service by two young ladies. I slept in a single room. It was very small/cosy with a small bathroom. All very clean
- Elaine (8/5): - The double bed was comfortable had a good night's sleep. Curtain pole was hanging off the wall, the wall plugs had come out in our room and also in our sons room.
We ate in the restaurant sons burger n fries was good. We had the roast dinner x2 at £23 each, we felt it was not worth the price. Items served was not hot the meats were cold, the gravy was and the apple sauce had a perfumed taste to it, the stuffing we both left as it tasted of nothing.
Hubby had a bread and butter pudding and said it was very dry even though he had custard with it.
Just disappointed with our meals to say we paid £46.

Excellent, would recommend to anyone. If possible that breakfast could be a little earlier… we struggled with our timings (( school run)

- Brian (8/5): Welcoming village pub good for overnight stay - Village pub full of character. Lovely atmosphere and friendly, welcoming staff. Dinner was excellent. Room comfortable for overnight stay. Walls between rooms very thin so noise from neighbouring rooms heard.
- Alison (10/5): A great place for a night away.near to Blandford where we were meeting someone themed day - Easy to park and get to our room. Lovely traditional building. Liked it all.
- Frances (1/5): - We did not stay at The Anvil, we had to cancel our booking but this does not seem to be registered anywhere with Booking.com despite receiving confirmation from you.
Also The Anvil states it's 'accessible' meaning it caters for disabled people, like myself, which is why we chose it however, all the rooms are on the first floor with no lift access so NOT accessible. This needs to be changed as it's misleading information.
- Stuart (9/5): Very accommodating and excellent food - Great character
- Philip (10/5): Fantastc - The team at the Anvil are amazing, they made you feel welcome, the rooms were really nice, the food.............was absolutely amazing, breakfast was top notch. If we are down in Blandford again, we will use them without a doubt. Thank you for a great stay.

- Cathy (6/5): Bedroom decor needs attention and bathrooms could be cleaner - Efficient friendly staff. Bedroom was warm. Comfortable bed. Very small double beds. The bathroom areas weren’t very clean. There was paint peeling off the ceiling and holes in the walls in my bedroom. No bath mat and a bath with only a hand held shower.

- Andy (7/5): Loved it - Breakfast great. Staff brilliant. Not the fault of the pub . Noise because of roadworks and diversion was poorly set out .
- Alvaro (3/5): -
- Fiona (9/5): Great location for an overnight stay in transit from A to B - Friendliness of staff , value for money, good location for an overnight stay during a drive from A to B I did find 3 long black hairs in the sink of the otherwise spotless bathroom. I am sure this was just by accident and therefore did not complain to the staff

- Aaron (8/5): decent - A very beautiful place with friendly staff and amazing food.
For starters we had the halloumi fries with dressing and the garlic bread with cheese — both were delicious. Our mains were the roast beef Sunday dinner and the Anvil burger with fries, and for dessert we enjoyed a sundae and a sponge cake. Everything we ate was excellent.
The room was nice and comfortable, though the mattress was a bit too soft for me personally as someone who prefers a firm bed. That’s just a preference thing, so others may love it.
One suggestion I would make is to provide bottled water in the rooms. I poured a glass from the bathroom tap and it wasn’t clear, with some floating bits in it. I completely understand this may be due to the old Victorian pipework, which is why I wanted to mention it as a helpful improvement.
Other than that, it was a lovely place to stay for the night — especially after a five‑and‑a‑half‑hour drive to drop my daughter off at Royal Signals. A very beautiful place with friendly staff and amazing food.

- Adrie.Z (8/5): Authentiek Engelse pub/hotel - What you see is what you get.

- Adrian (10/5): - Comfy warm room, very nice evening meal on arrival & excellent breakfast setting me up for the day. Couldn't ask for anything more 5*. Nothing
- Stewpot (10/5): -
- William (8/5): Really good breakfast and well looked after by the staff, noisy room - Great location and really good breakfast. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good location. The room was very noisy and the bathroom light kept going off from movement in the next door room
- Francis (8/5): A lovely old building well situated for visitors to this area of Dorset with great food and comfortable rooms. - Room was clean and comfortable, staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was exceptional. Nothing nearby really in the village. We used the hotel as a base for visiting the nearby towns and countryside but if you’re looking for local amenities you won’t really find anything.
- Foster (8/5): -
- Julio (8/5): -
- Roderick (10/5): Always made to feel welcome, excellent staff and venue. - The meals were excellent and the breakfast was just as good. My stay was excellent again.Nothing to complain about.
- Dr Keith (8/5): -
- John & Sarah Betts (9/5): Would stay here again - The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful.
Room and bathroom was very comfortable, well equipped, warm and clean.
Both Breakfast and evening meal menus were excellent, well-presented and enjoyable Slightly later breakfast serving times would be helpful
- Maureen (5/5): Okay stay but I can’t recommend or be going back. - The location was great for my work meeting the next day and the price was reasonable. There was no reception and on arrival bar staff told me my booking was for the next day. It wasn’t but prior to them realising their mistake it was distressing as they had suggested I’d have to go somewhere else.
There was no light switch for the bathroom. The light came on by movement sensor. In the middle of the night, when no light is necessary, in my case, it was blindingly bright which was very unpleasant.
- IAN (9/5): Nice little hotel, easy to find and only a short drive to the town. - I enjoyed mu stay at the Anvil. Nice little hotel, easy to find, quick check in, nice airy room. Only a few mins drive to Blandford itself. Breakfast very nice with quite a few choices. Sorry, nothing I didn't like.
- jerry (8/5): - Staff very friendly location perfect for us Buffet breakfast could have been more exciting
Bathroom was not the cleanest
- LES (10/5): -
- Justin (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): -
- Jeff (8/5): Comfortable and peaceful - Great staff and superb Sunday roast! Nothing comes to mind!
- LES (10/5): Always made welcome and excellent food - One of my regular overnight stays. Always get a warm welcome I have to duck under the low beams but that’s all part of the character that I look for
- Julio (6/5): The mattress was to soft! - I did like the arquitetura, it’s different! Some places have lower ceilings!
- Adrian (8/5): Pleasant few days away with a landlord and staff that were very friendly. - Location was choosen as we were visiting friends and relatives nearby. Noisy guests on first night.
- Kaylie (10/5): -
- Kirsty (9/5): Wonderful - The food, staff and cosy room
- Mahin (8/5): -
- Clive (10/5): Helpful staff, good food and fair price - Staff were exceptional and supported our event we’ll It was all great
- LES (9/5): -
- Beverley (10/5): Perfect stay. - We stayed for 2 nights whilst visiting our daughter, her husband and their new baby. The whole stay was perfect. Rooms were immaculate, food spot on, and staff were super friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming. Looking forward to our next visit. Nothing we didn't like.
- LES (9/5): -
- Stephen (9/5): We really enjoyed the two night stay - Homely and friendly Double bed a bit small
- John (8/5): Excellent value, friendly service and an attractive local atmosphere. - Breakfasts and evening meals were both good and the staff provided quite exceptional and friendly service throughout. The windy stairs to the bedrooms were a little tricky for elderly people to negotiate.
