Guest Reviews
- Christy (7/5): Manager was very accommodating and the room was comfy. - Location to downtown. Walking distance. It’s a little dated and could use some polish.
- Fernandez (7/5): - Honestly a nice place. Small but very clean. Rooms are good size. Water pressure is not strong
- Joe (10/5): It is a good stay for a reasonable price. I will stay here again if needed. - Clean. Reasonably priced. Comfortable bed. It had a ceiling fan!! A full sized refrigerator in the room. The bath towels could be bigger.
- Enrique (6/5): - is the only one there is.
- Wanda (6/5): -
- Thomas (9/5): - Bon accueil - Parfois difficulté à être compris à l'accueil et difficulté à retrouver la résa faite sur Booking
- Dawn (10/5): AWESOME - Quiet, clean, smelt good, warm and cozy.. Felt safe. Bed comfortable.. wasn't expecting frigerater... cable good.. easy access parking right in front of my room... security cameras... easy check in and out... price was right on time too... Lights between beds didn't work...
- Allison (1/5): Pissed off! They never had my reservation! - They didn’t have my reservation! Apparently they NO LONGER USE BOOKING.com They didn’t have my reservation! THEY NO LONGER WORK WITH BOOKING.com!
- Duane (4/5): - Not a lot, but the bed was comfortable. The bathroom needs updating
- Amy (9/5): -
- sir Reginald (9/5): -
- Clark (2/5): The stay was terrible ! This hotel should NzoT be listed on book.com - Location The clerk was rude, the appliance in the hotel were very old. Out dated. Took the fridge 2 hours to get cold. The walls had holes and had two different spot paints on the wall. Room smell old. Not pleasant. Not happy.
- Michael (6/5): A motel Jack Reacher could call home - It was what I expected, though maybe a little over priced for the quality. Jack Reacher could have stayed here comfortably...
- Daryl (2/5): - This is a sad excuse for a human inhabited hotel. We paid for the room and 15 minutes later, we checked out and went to another hotel. I wouldn’t let my dog stay there
- Gillie (1/5): - Smell
- Bret (2/5): Not the best - Dead cockroach in the tub, beds were horrible. I didn’t expect much but it was pretty awful.
- Debby (10/5): - Nice and quiet any parking by your car while stay there again
- Jamie (8/5): Decent room - It was ok for the purpose.
- Clay (8/5): - Nice looking property convenient to downtown the walls are a little thin though.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Needed a place to stay for family funeral in a small town. As a last resort stayed here. The staff was completely unprofessional and the place was very dirty and unkept. I hope they made enough money off our family that weekend to do some much need repairs and cleaning and not by more intense.
- Justin (8/5): Older but still a great place… - This is a small town motel with just regular rooms…nothing fancy. The ppl at the desk are very friendly and are ready to serve even late at night. The rooms have fridges and the showers are good. They are older beds and it’s an older place but well up-kept. I’d would definitely stay here again.
- Synamon (2/5): - I refused to even brush my teeth here. We slept on top of the comforter for a few hours and got out as soon as we could. Never again. The owner was nice as we checked in late - but this was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed at.
- Brian (10/5): - It’s quiet and peaceful
- Coleen K Koonce (8/5): - Big room, clean, good shower and better towels than a lot of other motel s. Outside ratty, had dirty torn old chairs.
- Mark (2/5): - Dirty bedding had dog hair on it.old carpet.
- Brian (8/5): - It’s was a good stay
- Paul (8/5): - It was centrally located in Hico and the service was good.
- Delysia (6/5): Good value for the price when you need to stay in Hico. - It’s the only budget hotel in Hico and was near where our event was held. No hand towels. Refrigerator was not plugged in.
- Lynnese (8/5): - For an older motor hotel, this one was in good shape. Clean, comfortable mattress and good water pressure in the shower. Air-conditioning worked great!
- Fred (6/5): - Decent enough for a much needed overnight stay and that’s it!
- Alessandro (6/5): Minimalist but could do with some better upkeep - Location in town A bit rundown, need better outside upkeep and some more flex on checkout
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Of the four hotels I stayed at in two weeks, this was the best
- John (2/5): - The room had cockroaches and it was dirty. The bedding smelled and the bed was uncomfortable. Barely slept.
- Wayne (9/5): Superb -
- Cher Badger (2/5): - The room smelled like a combination of mildew and cat pee.
Furniture was very old and unstable.
Luckily we only needed the toom gor a few hours to have a gift exchange, no way i would have slept there.
- Brenda (4/5): Nope - This hotel isn't the worst I've stayed at but it's close. None of the appliances were plugged in which is fine except for the refrigerator. In order for one to stay cool it has to stay plugged in. Had we needed to refrigerate anything we would have had to wait for it to cool down. That is if it worked. We didn't try it. The AC unit was in a window above my head. I did finally get it figured out (it was old) and got it turned on but I couldn't get it to turn off this morning. If you need more than a couple outlets you are out of luck. The toilet kept backing up into the tub soooo....Needless to say the $58 I spent on the room was too much. Unfortunately this is the only place in Hico that I found that didn't require climbing steps which is something my husband cannot do. It would have to be a dire emergency for me to stay here again.
- Denise (8/5): - Outdated but clean and friendly proprietor.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Property manager sold our room - Property manager sold our room. Didn’t honor reservation with Hotels itinerary number.
- Michael (2/5): No No No - The place is old and is in dire need of updates. Everything is beat up. Non-smoking room smelled like stale. Smoke
- Luis (6/5): - The only place in town
- Priscilla (10/5): At least there is a place to stsy - We were glad there was a room in Hico so we didn’t have to drive to Stephenville
- Letitia (6/5): - The building was very old. Although it was clean, my round toilet had an elongated seat so it was kind of awkward to use. The chairs had stains. The cleaning ladies' supplies were stored outside the doors. The bedding appeared clean and fresh and the carpet appeared clean. Tub, commode and sink were clean. Nice and large refrigerator and microwave inside the room. The sink had no vanity space but a counter was right outside the bathroom door to place toiletries. It was cheap.to sleep there for the night!
- Somerville (5/5): Passable - Coffee machine was filthy.
Decaying old building. Needs serious upgrading. Especially the electrical system
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Very old and minimal upkeep, but it's the only hotel in town... so we were glad to have it to stay at. It's within walking distance to our concert destination.
- Rachel (10/5): - Nice clean visit
- Kevin (8/5): - Close too downtown walking distance for sure
- Sandra (8/5): - Property was clean, quiet management was helpful and polite. Property was old and you could here the people talking in adjacent room. Lack of insulation I suppose.
- Just For You (4/5): - Understand for the money it’s what you get however with new linens detail cleaning appliances that work better towel carpet cleaning and more comfortable mattress along with better pillows new tv and remote that totally works I would pay more not just to drive to Stephenville, limited number of hotel rooms and airbnb on a busy weekend
They need to spend 10k a room or sale the Hico hills and let someone else bring it back to a boutique
- Burton (6/5): Okay for one night - It was about what we expected for the price, an older lodge trying to keep up with the times. The bed was clean and comfortable but the carpet needed cleaning and there was some hair in the bathroom on the sink, commode, tub and floor. A quick wipe down was needed. The A/C, mini fridge, and shower all worked well. Overall, I guess we got what we paid for.
- Jormeh (6/5): Hico Inn Review - AC doesn’t get the room cold like it should do to using a window unit…gets little uncomfortable when trying sleep at night….i have strong order of Urine in my room…there is never any ice in the ice machine. Vending machine steals your money so don’t use it…takes your dollar bills but will NOT give change back…price is good . They just give you new towels no room cleaning …toilet paper tears your bottom up so bring your own soft toilet paper…area is nice and quiet
- Stephanie (6/5): - Nice quiet little hotel. Bathroom was clean and beds were good.
- Michael (2/5): $60 dollars might be too much for the room here - This motel is so far past a remodel that’s it’s astonishing. Beat up, dated, and just overall disgusting. The TV worked I’ll give them that and there was WiFi. I only paid $60 for the night and that is exactly the type of room you get. It was supposed to be non smoking but it did smell as though people smoke in there. It does not feel as thoythe owners wasn’t to make even the slightest attempt to upgrade this place.
- Cheryl (4/5): Update needed - This hotel was very outdated. Needs new paint job outside and inside, new carpet and updated bathroom. The bed was very comfortable though. Staff was not unfriendly, but not friendly and outgoing. The price was very reasonable.
- Katherine (6/5): - Property owner was very kind and always asking if we needed anything.
- Diana (2/5): Cold and smelly like cigarettes - Old heater was in wall and didn’t warm. We got a nonsmoking room that smelled like cigarettes. VERY old and outdated
- Fernando (2/5): - Extremely dirty
- Robert (10/5): - Great price as was quiet and seemed safe.
- Jacob (4/5): - Staff not very friendly, bed not even made and towels looked to be used and hung up….
Would not recommend
- Ann (4/5): - ,
- Lorie (4/5): Think twice - The hotel is in poor condition. Needs better cleaning, needs updated, new towels and sheets. The beds were comfortable!
- Eduardo E (2/5): - I chose this property due to the closeness for a bike race that weekend.
Upon arrival, the first thing i noticed was the humid mucky smell in the room. After looking around i could see the dated room and rust in the refrigerator.
I ended up booking another hotel and driving out.
- RONALD (4/5): - Staff very friendly. WIFI worked fine. Room was a bit dirty and in need of refreshment -- paint, deep cleaning. There was neither a smoke detector nor a carbon monoxide detector. Motel used by other guests for long term stays. Couple of BBQ grills just outside our room along with the smell of charcoal lighter. Nice restaurant a block away.
- Kendall (2/5): - The room had a horrendous smell. Paint was peeling off the wall in the bathroom. They were kind enough to refund us and we got a room in Stephenville. This property has a tremendous amount of potential. I hope they update it as Hico is growing.
- Gale (8/5): Inexpensive, Great Location - Just a quick 2 day stay to concentrate on our site build.
This hotel in town is inexpensive and is working hard to improve an older hotel. It is worth the price to stay in town near everything.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Budget stay - Nice budget stay
- Gale (8/5): Decent Hotel - Rooms could be a little cleaner, but overall, this is a good hotel for the price point.
- Susan (6/5): - Comfortable for a short stay.
- Gale (6/5): Budget Hotel-still being Upgraded - Older hotel which has tried hard to update while offering a budget price. Needs a lot more upgrading soon.
- Rene (2/5): - It was not anything close to the pictures online. I found left over trash under my bed. All the other guests rooms looked liked people lived there with cheap barbecue pits out front and scattered beer cans. Our room had one small lock with an actual key entry. No bolt action and the chain lock was broken. Very scary place.
- Donald (4/5): A place to sleep and nothing more - I had very low expectations based on price and it didn't even meet those. It's a place to sleep. The bed was comfortable. The motel is very old and hasn't been updated much if any since it was built. The AC was a window unit and the heat was a space heater sitting on the dresser. The furniture was easily 40 to 50 years old. It was quiet and I was able to get a good nights sleep. I did feel safe and the location is very convenient to everything in Hico.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Uumm never again - The room was dirty. Blankets was dirty sheets was stained. Ceiling fan was very dirty. Bathroom was nasty
- Ken (4/5): - Ice machine not working and no no breakfast offering
- Joseph (8/5): - Very good
- Gloria (8/5): - Price was good. Close to where I needed to go.
- Ron (8/5): - This property is well-dated but is in fairly good condition, considering its age. Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Microwave and full size refrigerator was nice touch. Room security was lacking, as property is single story. Better dor security is needed. Overall, a quaint place to stay; reminded me of family road trips from my youth. Would stay there again should need arise.
- Judy (2/5): - I couldn’t set down my luggage because the floor was so dirty. Yhe
- Stacey (6/5): - I like the price and location. It is very run down but overall is comfortable and clean.
I don"t like the lack of cleanliness of the fridge and microwave.
- Verified traveler (8/5): STAY - Good
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This modest motel has a perfect location to virtually everything on the tourist information list at the visitor's information center in Historic Hico.
It is only 2 or 3 blocks from all the "must see" things, which absolutely MUST be seen.
The bed was just exceptional. As were the pillows. And a small, but full sized retro Galanz fridge was just a surprise! So were the benches on the sidewalk, and the barbecue grills.
We will stay there in the future.
- Kendi (2/5): - Disgustingly filthy and stinky!0
- Domanick (6/5): Room 117 - It was alright I noticed the toilet leaks at the bottom when you flush it but other than that everything else was alright.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property manager let us look at a few rooms and choose the one we liked the best. Liked the microwave and fridge in the room alot.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the old-fashioned feel of this motel!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - roaches through out room. no hot water. was told we would have king bed, but only queen available.
- Paul (2/5): Please don't do this to youself - I travel often for work and I've stayed at both good and bad. This is by far the worst place I've ever seen. Although I won't share a picture of this, rule one of housekeeping should probably be "FLUSH THE TOILET". I noticed a smell when I first walked in. Took me a while to figure it out. Filthy sheets, disgusting (but folded) towels, a grimey shower curtain and the dirtiest, most stained carpet I've ever seen topped it off. I didn't take off my shoes (or my dirty clothes) my entire stay because there was no sense in getting anything else dirty. I've i cludrd a few pictures here to demonstrate just a taste of what I saw. You will see that the chain had been torn off the door so there was nothing to stop someone from entering. Someone HAD however, stuffed some paper i to the spyhole on the door for some privacy. You will see some sort of dried, brownish liquid dripping from the picture over the bed. You will see a rusted out, filthy refrigrerator. (At least they were nice enough to leave me some ice cream). Finally, you will see filthy walls. Now before you ask, why did I stay at this disgusting place? This is the only hotel in town. The next closest is about 20 miles away. I wound up leaving on tbe lights all night because I read that bedbugs stay out of the light. I slept on top of the covers in my clothes. I know this review sounds too over the top to be true but please believe me: sleep in your car before bringing yourself or your family to this place.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Run down, needs carpet, exposed plywood in the bathroom
- Verified traveler (2/5): HORRIBLE - It was disgusting. Not clean. The lock on my door was broken, hair all over the shower and bed, found bugs behind furniture and gum under the mattress. Stains all over the sheets, walls, and in the dresser. I felt very unsafe. The owner was mean and not understanding. He yelled at me to leave when I made him aware of my concerns. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!
- Peter (2/5): Hard Pass on this one - This is the only hotel in Hico and the only hotel within any reasonable distance of Hico. I booked my room and made it to town late. Sign on the door said that they lock the door for the front desk at 10:00 pm but to ring the buzzer and someone would come out to help. I rang the buzzer several times and called the phone number listed. Nobody answered. I contacted hotels.com and they made it right but I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. I gave neutral ratings on cleanliness and comfort as I didn’t actually get to stay there. There was, however furniture and various other items strewn along in front of many of the rooms.
I ended up staying at the Velkommen Inn in Clifton and it was just fine. I’d stay there again.
- Chris (2/5): - I had no hot water the first night and had to change hotels. Actually several rooms had to leave and go else where during the weekend.
- BT (4/5): - Like: Location near where I needed to be. Price. Strong water pressure and lots of hot water. WiFi was decent. Cute network password.
Dislike: Main heater was broken and they provided a small space heater which did not make the room warm until approx 9 am the NEXT morning after running all night long. All it did was keep me from freezing. Dusty furniture, stains/sticky stuff all over the top of the microwave. Coffee maker and coffee provided, but no cups.
I would not stay here again.
If you want to see what a $50 room value is, check out the Taylor Motel in Van Horn, TX. I would take a special trip to Texas just to stay here again. The Hico Hills owner should visit that location.
I did note that remodeling was going on in one of the rooms, so perhaps I just got stuck with one of the older unrenovated ones.
- KK (2/5): - The room was the grossest hotel room I have ever stayed in. There was mold growing on the wall and dirt/grime all of the walls and floors. The bathroom was also disgusting. The worst part was the smell. It is a non-smoking hotel but the room REAKED of cigarettes. The sheets and towels did too.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The motel was very run down, which I expected and could have been okay with . . but we killed at least 30 flies in our room that night . . .and also there was no coffee maker as described.
- AmyBourdain (10/5): - Nice hotel at great location!
This is our hotel of choice while visiting family in Hico. Everything’s there we need. Clean facility and rooms, air condition works great, modern looked cabinets, friendly staff and very affordable. If it wasn't affordable we would be sleeping on a couch or crowding in on someone. Glad they are there when we need them.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet, clean, comfortable.
This place is actually one of the good ones. This is not a luxury hotel, but it’s much cleaner than many in which we’ve stayed. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are fine for the stay. They have rooms equipped with fridges and microwaves. We had no issues during my stay. The location is excellent on intersecting highways 281 and TX 6. Overall, our stay was quiet and pleasant, we would stay again in the future and recommend to others.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Facility is run down and whatever update has been attempted was done without care-painting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Old style, but clean and cheap - It is about what you would expect for a family-run, small town motel in the old style --- actual key, window airconditioner (not quite adequate for the 98 degree heat outside), no bathroom fan, no breakfast, small screen TV. It was clean, no visible bugs of any kind, room a little bigger than average if anything, proprietors very efficient and got us extra towels quickly. The bed was too hard for us, but the pillows were comfy. For $53 a night, it was fine.
- Linda (8/5): Old style, but clean and cheap - It is about what you would expect for a family-run, small town motel in the old style --- actual key, window airconditioner (not quite adequate for the 98 degree heat outside), no bathroom fan, no breakfast, small screen TV. - John (10/5): - Best budget hotel we've ever stayed. Staff is very professional. Very clean and updated. Highly recommended.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - neat and clean! The bed was a bit firmer than we are used to.
will still visit next time
- Sarah (10/5): - We make sure to stop at this little gem of a hotel whenever we pass through Hico. It's scrupulously clean and freshly painted colorful wall. We love their new looks on cabinets. Bathrooms are very clean and fresh. The staff are unfailingly courteous. The hotel itself is quiet--it's hard to find places where you don't hear every door slam from your neighbors.
Our daughter accidentally left her favorite stuffed animal behind on our last trip. We found out about it at bedtime the following night. I called the hotel in a panic and the man at the front desk assured me that my daughter's toy had been found and they were keeping it for her until we could return. We came back as soon as we could the next morning, and they had even given her stuffed tiger a "bath" in the washing machine! LOL! My daughter was thrilled.
This is a perfect, family-friendly hotel that's clean and quiet and easy on the pocketbook. We plan to stay here often in the future.
