Guest Reviews
- Stacy (10/5): - Room was comfortable, bathrooms cleaned regularly. Nice common area with tea and coffee any time of day. Used the bath area and it was very nice.
- Patrick Joseph P (8/5): - Conveniently located within walking distance of Kyoto Station. Rooms are small but clean and everything worked great. I liked the free coffee and tea on the main floor.
- Nga (10/5): - Very clean and convenient.
- Zuzana (10/5): - I enjoyed the stay. Clear rules make it friendly. All shampoos, body soap, brushes, elastics provided. Clean room, comfy pillows, a/c. Awesome place!
- Bren (10/5): - Very clean, safe and beautiful common area. Free coffee and tea. We had a room with a shared bathroom and public bath. The room had a sink, bed, fridge and air con. We enjoyed the quaintness of this place. The price was great if you are okay about sharing a bathroom. Would stay here again
- berkhan (10/5): - nice staff
- Jonathan (8/5): - Very clean and cool hotel, enjoyed the coffee in the lobby quite well. Would recommend
- Adam Shadi (6/5): - Good but room is little too small and public washrooms arent it
- Steven (6/5): - Good vibes, rock hard beds
- yasmin (10/5): - The property is spotless, comfortable, modern, the bed is comfortable and l loved the onsen. My only area that needs improvement is the customet service. The reception staff dont acknowledge your presence, they dont ask you if you need help, they assume guests know where things are, or how to use the hot water, cofffee etc. They are not helpful, not kind, l stayed for 4 nights and not one smile or hello from a staff member. The reception area/ lounge feels cold and unwelcoming and like we are not welcome, l was literally tip toeing around. Horrible feeling.
- Eleanor (8/5): - Great location. Got exactly what we paid for. Very nice public bath but the laundry machines were not very functional. Very nice staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel, but a few things to be aware… - Beautiful hotel but be careful: there is no bathroom in the room. It is communal (and did not pay attention when booking). Moreover, they are playing music in the hallways that can be heard inside the room… it is quiet, but still if you are in a room close to a speaker and sensitive to noise…
- Sarai (6/5): - The only thing I liked about this hotel was the free coffee and tea. The laundry and dryer did not work well.
- Jarect (10/5): - It was super nice for the price, rooms perfect for just two or less
- Danna (10/5): Great Hotel! - The hotel offers good quality at a good price. The rooms have everything you need for your stay. The common areas are very clean and organized. We loved the lounge with coffee, tea, and useful entertainment items like a microwave, books, and magazines. I highly recommend it.
- Gina (10/5): - I love everything about this hotel, Very aesthetically design. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. The room is very clean and comes with complete amenities. The onsen and shower stalls are beautifully designed. I’ll definitely be staying there again in the future.
- Henry (10/5): - Everything was perfect! The only thing that was of any minor inconvenience was the shared bathroom! But the room, staff and location were/are perfect. Thanks for having us!
- Dominic (10/5): - Great hotel. I had a wonderful time staying for a week. The bathrooms were clean, and the room was the prefect size for me.
The added touch is the lounge/cafe area and laundry. Close to Kyoto station as well. Highly recommend.
- Ash Hans (10/5): - All was good...few minutes to the Main Train Station. The room was good too...
- chelsea (10/5): - Great place to stay. Great communial area for guests and free tea and coffee.
- Katie (8/5): - The property was lovely! I liked how the bathhouse was tattoo friendly. I really appreciate that part. The bathroom was seperate from the
- Cameron (10/5): Lovely little hotel at an affordable price - Lovely little hotel at an affordable price
- Daniel (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay. The lobby and public bathroom were excellent. I would definitely stay again .
- Sean (10/5): - Great location and the price was right. They have a sister hotel called the gallery. I wish we were allowed to have dinner or see the shows there would be my only suggestion.
- Jack (10/5): - Perfect location right next to Kyoto station, easy to explore the city. Property itself is great, free coffee, clean spaces, and comfortable room to rest your head. Highly recommend.
- Sterling (10/5): - This was a great location for a great price if you want to be close to Kyoto station for easy Shinkansen access. The older temples and Gion district are about 30 minutes to an hour away by bus which isn't hard, but can be a little crowded at times. The bathroom and washing ammenities are limited (shared floor bathroom and an onsen for washing), but for a few days stay is fine if you don't mind the lack of total privacy. The downstairs lobby area was a great place to have morning coffee and do some computer work if you needed. Well worth it for the location!
- Estefania (10/5): - Great value for the money, would stay again! Friendly staff, clean facilities. Nice neighbourhood and a short walk to the subway and Kyoto station. Good restaurants nearby. Free coffee and tea and laundry. I liked the glass tables in the lounge :)
- christian (10/5): - Great price. Room was clean/new. Public bath was a fun experience.
- Saiizan (10/5): - So close to a train station & just a quick walk to KYOTO station. Lots of shops & eateries nearby! Check in was smooth. I could leave my luggage with them hours before my check in. The rest & dining area was spacious, a mix of cafe & library with many books about Japan to browse at your own time. The room is super comfy with a compact sink. Toilet is near the lift. Shower & the compact but lovely public bath is on level 1.
- DE (8/5): - Overall the hotel was nice, the Onsen was great to have after lots of walking, my only complaint was with the staff, we had 2 bookings and the second one was supposed to be a bigger room, but it ended up being the exact same room, we told this to the staff thinking there was an error but they gaslight us saying that we were wrong and that the new room was in fact bigger and better, they were exactly the same
- Mariah (8/5): - This is a great option for solo travelers or quick stays. I had a gap between my longer bookings so wanted somewhere convenient, but not overly expensive or unsafe. Check-in was smooth, the rooms are very small (to be expected), but perfectly fine if you’re only going to be there for a short amount of time or traveling light. Everything is kept very clean and other guests are generally very respectful in regards to noise level as well. Check-out is a bit early so be aware of that, but the hotel will coordinate luggage transfer and allow you to use the lobby and common areas while you’re either waiting for your room or next accommodation, so it balances out IMO. Also very close to Kyoto station, and a ton of convenience and restaurant right outside for anything you may need. Overall a very good experience, especially for the price
- Karman (10/5): - Very cute place, the common area is very spacious and great to just hang out.
- YVES (10/5): - This place is an Undiscovered Gem!
I have stayed here 4 times
- Yiyang (6/5): - Did not empty the bin in my room for 3 days…I don’t see why this is so difficult.
- TENG TENG (8/5): - good location, closed to Kyoto station, room was comfortable, but I did not like the bath room at ground floor, it was not convenience.
- miyuki (10/5): - Nice lounge area with free coffee and teas.
Nice public bath
- Randy (8/5): - The check-in procedure was efficient.
- Craig (4/5): - Only one toilet on each level. Shared shower area. However lounge area was nice, with free tea and books.
- Hatsue (10/5): - Clean, convenient
- Kya (6/5): - Great place, comfy, good amenities, super friendly staff! But my only issue was that I could hear every door close, tv show in the rooms next to me, and people walking down the hall as clear as day :/
- Eileen (10/5): - We were very pleased with our stay, and enjoyed the amenities from the public bath to the DIY tea station. The rooms are typical Japanese sized rooms, so not much space for luggage. Walking to the shared bathroom took a little more effort than if they were in the rooms, but it was fine and they were always clean. Convenient to Kyoto station, but far enough away that the surrounding area is quiet. Thank you to the front desk staff who helped us with luggage forwarding and filled out the form for us!
- John (10/5): Great Stay - Lovely stay, a nice blend of traditional Japanese and modern hotel. Location is great. Free coffee is good too!
- Sean (8/5): Good stay - The ac had a weird smell kind of like a wet towel other than that it was exactly as what is advertised.
- josh (8/5): - The floor shouldn't be a brown color, black would've been better. You can clearly see all the stains on the floor which gives that gross feeling when walking into your room. However the rooms were super nice and a ton of space. The price was fantastic! Cafe and front desk look very professional. Note please have bigger feet size for us North Americans for slippers. Overall 4/5.
- zac (6/5): - It’s good, that’s it
- PETER (10/5): - Rooms were perfect in that it had everything you needed. Bath & shower features were an excellent addition
- Katherine (10/5): - Can’t fault it - spotless room and facilities. Great value for money. Would definitely stay again!
- Carolina (8/5): - No bathroom with room but rather shared, as is custom in Japan. There is a lovely Onsen with showers and communal toilets. However, we didn’t realise we wouldn’t have a toilet to ourselves, but this added to the communal vibes.
- Lijuan (6/5): - The hotel staff is very friendly and considerate, and the location of the hotel is very convenient. However, the price of the hotel is a bit high, which is not in line with their facilities.
- Shirley (10/5): - It was in a good area and extremely close to the main station. Very clean and a great place to relax in after a long day. Would come back again!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I stayed here for one week this time and i was very disappointed.
First of all, the staff, front desk was just weird. They have limited hr., like a hostel or guesthouse. When you need some help around the facility, they seemed very distant. One time, ladies bathroom sink was stuck with full water, he just told me to use the sink in another level because there's no female staff to enter the ladies bathroom to fix.
The room was somewhat clean, but so many dirty spots on the carpet. The lounge seems okay, but the floor was full of hair. The ice machine was so dirty, and can't imagine the laundry machine being any different since it is free. Peple just put their stuff, regardless of hour. Because of this reason, when you walk in to the hotel, it smells weird, like a dirty rack. The smell is carried inside the elevator.
The walls are think, yes, you can hear everything people from outside. My room was right by the elevator and it was bad. Thw worst thing is people above you dragging the stool in the room in the middle of night. So loud it woke me up few times.
Overall, it was dirty and didn’t feel comfortable. I will not recommend this place to others and i will avoid it too.
- Ebony (10/5): - I loved the authentic japanese styled backpacker experience of this hotel. I loved that there were so many DIY tea and coffee options and you didnt have to clean it yourself! All the luxury of at home brewing without the chores :D
The authentic japanese hot bath experience with separate genders was also great to see at a hotel!
Thought we cpuld only have that experience at an onsen but to have it somewhere that was so inexpensive was fantastic. Great experience for such a great value, highly recommend!
- Corey (10/5): - Very impressive looking hotel. Very clean, quiet and very close to Kyoto station or other resteraunts. Would definitely come back and stay here again.
- Greg (8/5): Kind of a hostel for older crowd - I knew ahead of time that the showers were shared, but it only downed to me that the washrooms would be too.
That was the main issue, since 2 mornings out of 3 one of the toilets was full of stuff...
The second issue was the constant smell of mold in the lobby which is not super pleasant.
And finally, the size of the room; I barely had room to open my 1 suitcase...
Despite these issues, the rest was pretty good. The staff is really really nice and helpful!
The shared living area has a lot of stuff and the location makes it very useful.
So for $50(CAD) a night, it's worth it, if you can live with the rest.
Please note that if you have tattoos you can't use the bath, unless they are covered. Showers are ok (and great!)
- Kevin (10/5): - It provided everything we needed for an overnight visit in Kyoto. We would stay again!
- Ma Elyza (10/5): - Close to Kyoto Station but not on the area where people come in go. Amenities were clean and tidy. Staff are friendly.
- Shuopeng (10/5): - Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a smaller/more budget place to stay! The atmosphere is really unique, we can brew our own coffee and tea, and the public baths are very clean.
- Alexander (10/5): - It was a lovely hotel
- Mikiko (10/5): extremely satisfied - very relaxing, spacious & comfortable place.
in walking distant to station and AEON, so is extremely convenient!
- Catherine (10/5): Great location, good value - The location is great, close to Kyoto Station and Kujo Station. It is also near Aeon Mall, for food and shopping. It was easy for me to get out and explore.
Rio, the lady who checked me in, is so sweet and helpful. If you have any questions or need anything, be sure to ask her. Rio is very kind and patient and answered all my questions and also efficiently helped me ship a piece of luggage to my next hotel.
There is another lady at the front desk whose attitude was a little cold.
My room was small but big enough for me. I stayed on the fourth floor and the hallway had a strange smell (possibly coming from the air vents?) but my room didn’t have that same smell and I was able to open a window.
It’d be even better if each floor were separated by gender and had showers on each floor, that way I would’ve been able to go to the shower area wearing only a towel.
Overall, this was a cheap place for me to stay a couple nights in a great, convenient location.
- Yiu man (8/5): - Pros:
Close to Kyoto Station within 10 minutes walk.
Clean facilities.
Price budget.
Free coffee.
Cons:
Only one but maybe just for myself. I always pass by or missed the street of hotel by day or night time because it sits on Residential area. Always use google map to navigate to the hotel.
- Emilee (4/5): - There is no shower only a public bath that is closed half the time
- Chun-Sheng Spring (10/5): - Atmosphere of common area makes me feel very relaxed and comfortable
- Lin (8/5): - Very nicely designed and maintained.
- Marcio (10/5): - I will evaluate this hotel for what it is a low budget hotel. The room is quite small, but for me and my wife that only returned to the hotel at night to sleep, it was good enough. The public bathrooms may be a problem for some people, so have that in mind. The location was excellent imo, 7min walk to Kyoto's central station. The hotel has a music hour that is amazing, they have a person playing an instrument live in one of their other hotels and they broadcast that into a big screen at the ground floor, I was even able to hear music from my country being played by the musicians. It is definitely a good option for everyone who is looking for a low budget hotel in Kyoto.
- Angela (8/5): - Facility's shared bathing area is very clean, had a passcode for the female bath so it felt fairly safe. Free laundry machines are available but the drier is not very good so it took very long for all my clothes to dry. One of the front desk lady was a bit cold when we arrive to store our luggage. The hotel is located in a smaller alley, but overall the location is convenient as it is within walking distance to the Kyoto station.
- Ryan (10/5): - Hidden hotel snuggled between easily accessible transit stations. Very nice room, compact but not small by any means. It features public showers and gendered hot baths, which is a great destressor if you can get used to the public bath format - although you won't have an ensuite bathroom (this didn't pose a problem for us at all during our stay). Overall, great experience and a hotel I looked forward to going back to after long days around Kyoto!
- Abigail (8/5): - Staff were very kind, willing to make a phone call on our behalf when I was ill.
Public bath is very nice, quiet, and clean. They offer an abundance of shampoos and soaps.
The rooms were small, but cozy. Didn't hear any noise from others.
- Sabina (10/5): - It is a beautiful hostel! Great room with a sink, which is very handy. Facilities are clean and they give you a cute pj! Loved the bed as well, suitable for tall individuals! My partner fit right in and he os around 1.90! Location though steals the show! It is right by Kyoto station and walking distance to another metro station as well. Many attractions are walkable as well. Highly recommend.
- Steven (8/5): Trendy and cool. - Felt like an upscale hostel. Everything that was advertised. Small but i found it trendy and cozy.
- YESENIALUZ (10/5): - Would stay again
- Gina (6/5): - The facility was very nice. The bathrooms/showers were clean. and the bedrooms were fine but the one thing that grossed me out was the rug in the hallway. I'm not sure if every floor's rug was a dirty as ours but it was very dirtyand gross. It didn't match the rest of the buliding. I also loved having the tea options.
- Aldo (4/5): - The property is ok. You get what you pay. The staff is not the most friendly however. When we arrived to check in (after 10 PM) the front desk lady told us that the check in closed at 10 pm. Probably I’m not very familiar with Japanese customs regarding check in times, but I haven’t had the same experience in other properties across the country. I didn’t found any other information about that in our checkin information. She checked us in anyway, but in the most unfriendly manner. The same cold attitude was received during our two night stay.
- Amanda (10/5): - I loved the public bath on property, it was very clean and had everything you could need!
- SONIA (8/5): - Walkable from the Kyoto station.
- Sarah (6/5): - A nice hotel, with great shared fascilities andnwithin walking distance to multiple transport options. Sound proofing could be better though and the option for a private shower would be nice.
- Leandro (8/5): - Awesome place to stay!
- KIMBERLY (10/5): - A terrific accommodation with too many thoughtful amenities to list.
- Angela (10/5): - Was amazed with the quality of this hotel.
- George (10/5): - The hotel is beautiful. The common areas are very cozy and offer tea and coffee all the time. Very comfortable rooms. The onsen is very good.
- Saahir (10/5): - Amazing hostel, I would say it's more like a hotel. For the price we paid, it's great value for money.
They have multiple types of free and fresh coffee and tea. They also have access to a free ice machine, laundry, onsen, and an awesome dining area to use.
Receptionists are also super nice.
Doors are quite thick so we did not hear any noise, but it might depend on how loud some of the other guests are. Overall awesome experience.
- Azusa (4/5): - チェックイン前からの女性スタッフの対応が酷かったため、すべてがあまり良くないと感じた。
- Andrew (10/5): - Super clean. Easy check in. Easier check out. Free laundry, coffee, and tea. Couldn't ask for a better stay!
- Qais (10/5): - Rooms were decent sized. Bathrooms were clean and there was a shared public bath for users. Female part could only be entered with a code and was fully equipped with products.
Tea and coffee available for guests.
Good walking distance from Kyoto station and nearby convenient stores (2 7/11 very close)
- Emily (10/5): - The staff was really nice and helpful! They had everything you need and the public bath was also really great with a lot of shampoo choices too. It was a great stay and I would recommend it!
- Vanessa (10/5): - I needed a place to stay overnight in Kyoto, and found Sakura Terrace The Atelier as it was quite near the station. As I walked down the corridor to my room, I was a little worried as I could hear voices from the rooms I passed by, but once I stepped into the room - I believe the sound proofing was done well because the room was as quiet as it should be. The room was comfy, simple and practical, and amenities provided were more than sufficient. The first floor serves free coffee and tea, and also offers magazines and books for you to browse through. Overall I enjoyed my stay and slept really well, and would love to be back again!
- Jason (10/5): - Very modern and clean hotel.would stay again if in Kyoto in the future.
- marilyn (8/5): - The dryer in the laundry amenities areas
need to be updated to actually dry clothes. They are so dysfunctional it took
over 8 hours to dry a few things. A bit of wasted time, because we did not want to inconvenience others.
The rooms were extremely small, but the staff made up for it with their excellent service in translation, visitor information. They were wonderful. We were very stuck looking for distilled water in Japan and the young woman wrote in Kanjii the proper translation so we could get my husband's sleep apnea machine working. She was polite and wonderful, very multi lingual. The place was very chill, relaxed and welcoming. This made up for the still irritating, inefficient dryers.....
- Amelia (8/5): - On a quiet street just a short walk from Kyoto station which was key to getting around the city. Enjoyed the shared lounge area and coffee and tea they offered. Would stay again.
- Xander (10/5): - Nice hotel if you want a taste of more traditional Japanese inns, but without giving up too many modern comforts.
- Daniel (6/5): - Fun boutique hotel. The bath was nice! The rooms were very small and the walls were pretty thin (we needed white noise to filter out some of the noise from the rooms around us). We enjoyed the coffee in the morning. The laundry was a nice option but the driers didn't really dry the clothes. Great budget option but we would probably spend a little more to find something quieter in the future.
- feng (10/5): - lovely! First time stayed a room without private bathroom, surprised me, amazing experiences. I want to stay there again if I could go back to Kyoto someday . Thank you for all staffs.
- Arinlada (10/5): - The place was very comfy, cozy and clean. The staff was very helpful and kindness 😊
- Kimberly (10/5): - Loved this place! Even extended my stay by a couple days. Nice staff. Liked the onsen. Room was spotless, super quiet and conveniently located close to Kyoto Station.
- Jonathan William (8/5): - Very nice decor, but for the price, having to walk down the hall to use the communal toilet was a little annoying.
- Yasuko (10/5): - New and clean
Free coffee and tea
Great price!
- Eri (8/5): - Great price for a quick over night stay.
The room was clean and cozy for 1 person. Although it’s shared bathroom, it was nice to have a hot bath.
The downside was that I could hear other people walking the corridor after midnight and early morning as people use toilets. Also I could hear the sound of people walking in their rooms upstairs as I stayed in 2nd floor which woke me up few times at night and in the morning.
- Olivia (8/5): Does what it says on the tin - Abosultely fabulous little place on a budget. Close to rhe train for day trips and connections to the rest of the city. Free coffee and teas during the day and although rhe room was small and shared shower facilitates it was immacutae and privacy of cublicals. The food wasn't to my taste but was great to have some thing first thing.
Excellent value for money for a clean and compact place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect - I personally loved the bathhouse they have. Everything was tidy. We did not get the room we expected to but it was still nice. Had window that opened for fresh air. Coffee and tea options were diverse, good atmosphere. near Kyoto station.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - All the amenities and more for a hotel but at hostel prices. Very clean. The bathhouse was clean and modern.
