Guest Reviews
- Patrick (10/5): We could not have had a better stay — beautiful grounds, outstanding views, comfortable beds, good food, unbelievably at - Beautiful view that simply cannot be beat on the island. Couldn’t keep our eyes off of it! Nothing. Everything was perfect.
- Brand (9/5): Paradise on a steep hill - Perfect if you want your intimacy and if you want a nice view when you wake up!When we arrived,we were the only one there ,so the pool was for us only!Didnt see any locals at the pool area like the other review said. Cold water and ok pressure just like anywhere on ometepe.location is fine(not far from the middle )but the roads to make it are not in the best condition. The way up the hill to the hostel was Scarry at first but easily do-able with a toyota yaris.

- Gabriel (10/5): 5 star! A must in ometepe - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I had an absolutely amazing stay at Omaja Hotel. Everything was perfect from the moment I arrived. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and you can tell the property is well maintained.
The pool is incredible, honestly one of the highlights of the stay. Relaxing there with the beautiful view around is something I will not forget. The scenery is simply stunning.
The food was also very good. Fresh, tasty and well presented. Every meal was a pleasure.
What truly makes this place special is the staff. Everyone is kind, welcoming and professional. A very special mention to Maykeling, she is the best. She goes above and beyond to make sure guests feel happy and taken care of. Her energy and kindness made the experience even better.
I highly recommend Omaja Hotel and I will definitely come back. The only minor issues were that the shower pressure was a bit low, and the light in our cabana #3 was blinking. Nothing major at all, just small details that could be improved.
Overall, I highly recommend Omaja Hotel and I would definitely come back.
Richtige abzocke!
- Aracely (1/5): Please for God sake, write a warning to customers about travel restrictions!! I come from New York !! Even though, I cam - I am so so heartbroken with this Hotel. I made one night reservation for almost $200 thinking that I was going to be able to enjoy the pool and the view with my family. But when I got to the Ferry Terminal the stuff told me that they didn’t have space for my SUV. Immediately, I call the hotel to explain and to give any other option who to get to their hotel. Literally. I called multiple times from regular phone service and WhatsApp and it’s unavailable that they don’t really pick up the phone and when finally, they did it they practically told me “screw you” you will lost your $200 if you don’t make. And I couldn’t make it because at the Ferry Terminal told me that there was NOT any space to take my car and that I should had it booked 15 days ago and the worst they don’t have a website or a warning about this huge problem how to get to the island if you come from New York !!! I lost all my money because of the luck of communication. On top of that, at the Ferry Terminal since the moment I drove in they thought I was not a Nicaraguan and I felt discriminated only because I am whiter than most local people !! Shame !!
- Alexandra (10/5): Fantastic view - I would absolutely stay here again for the view and sunset. We enjoyed chilling in the pool while watching the sunset over the volcano and the lake. Not far from San Ramon waterfall. We had a good meal in the restaurant. We drove our hire car up here with no problem. I don't understand why it doesn't have a better rating. As with most places we've stayed in Nicaragua, the WiFi is not the most reliable and there was no hot water.
- Gómez Carvajal (10/5): - La vista es espectacular!
- Mercedes (9/5): - Las cabañas. Limpia y tranquilo.
- Jeremy (6/5): Amazing view, but the service and food didn't come close to matching it. - The location and view where awesome! The food was not that good, and the service could have been better. The staff asked for our full payment before we had even arrived and settled in and saw the room. Other communication could have been better as well. There were some things in our room that weren't working correctly. The toilet, and shower head. How much would it cost to just replace the shower head for one that works??
No fruit for breakfast and very meager breakfast offered overall.
- Elmer (5/5): -
- Heyddi (10/5): - I like everything is a beautiful place
- Julissa (1/5): Not great value for the price. I’ve stay in cheaper accommodations with better conditions in the island - Staff was ok The room was dirty. There were several power outage during our stay, so the air conditioning was barely working. Even when it was working, the AC was too small for the bedroom. Overall the room was not properly clean and the beds were really uncomfortable
- Colin (9/5): La Omaja delivers again! - I've stayed at La Omaja two times now, in 2013 and this past July 2025. An amazing property with views of the volcano that people all over come to see. The canañas are simple, comfortable, and very clean. Each with good privacy and a great view from the veranda. The pool is probably the most scenic of any on Omatepe! The restaurant and bar have a simple but tasty menu, with something for pretty much anyone. A good tipico Nicaraguan breakfast too. Staff are incredible and make one feel at home.
- Audrey (8/5): A faire.
- Guest (7/5): The views were amazing. The restaurant was nice and it had good music, the food was good but a little overpriced. - The views 1. We were not allowed in the pool, the first night we got there, they told us they were putting chemicals in pool and that we could go swimming in the morning.
The next day, they said the same thing.
That was one of the main reasons we picked this location, so that was disappointing.
2. We had to drive 20 mins on a dirt road.
- Marnie (9/5): I planned a special family trip to meet my son who lives on the island. It was so amazing. - The location with the view of lake and volcanoes, restaurant and pool was just amazing. The staff was attentive and caring. It was perfect for our family, during off season and we really had a sense of being at home while having our adventure on such an unusual island. Really a visit of a lifetime for us. There were issues as always particularly in this type of setting such as power outages, and sometimes other guests who were not very attentive to group space but the staff did their utmost to offset any difficulties.
- Heidi (8/5): Remote location close to many of Ometepes attractions - It’s peaceful in the jungle pretty grounds and view No toilet paper in the cabin (luckily we had brought some) and no hot water. Power went out a few times at night.
- Cassidy (10/5): Beautfoul hidden oasis with friendly staff - It’s tucked away with a beautiful view. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and we really enjoyed the pool! Everything was wonderful, however we did try multiple times to get the TV to work but it wouldn’t connect to the wifi. We tried to connect to our hotspot but it didn’t work. Then we got an employee to help connect to the Cabin #2 WiFi but the TV was still not working.
- Jakub (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gary (10/5): Amazing slice of paradise with the best sunset views! - Hotel La Omaja might just be our favourite hotel we've stayed at travelling central America! Our host Ricardo was an absolute gem, always on hand and super attentive. The infinity pool & view for sunset was better than anything you could find at a commercial spot like Playa Mangos. We enjoyed the place more or less to ourselves during our stay, breakfast was included, wifi was great, rooms were air conditioned, clean & with hot showers. We had a few drinks as the sun set behind the volcano in the pool & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My girlfriend wanted a Cuba Libre at one point & bless Ricardo, we watched as he went off on his motorbike to grab us some fresh supplies! He made an excellent drink. Wonderful experience, I'll provide some pictures to show our stay :) The place was fab! I suppose the only critique is that to access the place, you have to drive up about 1 minute of dodgy terrain (which seems commonplace on the island most places we went).
- Israel (8/5): Very good - I had a wonderful stay at Hotel La Omaja in Ometepe. The customer service was excellent — the staff was kind, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, perfect for relaxing and enjoying nature.
Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the air conditioning worked perfectly — which made a big difference in the heat.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Ometepe and looking for a clean, peaceful place with great hospitality. Just a heads-up: the drive to the hotel takes about 20 minutes on an unpaved road. During the day it's manageable, but at night it can be a bit challenging in the dark - worth it once you arrive though
- Brittany (1/5): Filthy hotel, Rude staff, No working amenities (dirty pool, no wifi, no running water, no AC) - It has a nice view. The staff was rude. They tried to double charge us when we checked in and said we didn't pay (we had prepaid). They lied to us about providing a refund due to no pool, no wifi, no air conditioning, no internet, no water...also it was filthy with someone else's hair and dead bugs in the bed sheets. We were promised a full refund and then they gas lit us when we requested it again. Do not stay here. It's the worst place I've ever stayed in over 40 years.
- Dariusz (10/5): Exceptional - Spectacular views. Excellent value
- Ivania (5/5): 5 - The location The staff wasn’t friendly, dirty common areas.
The bar, was not cleaned.
- Don (10/5): Exceptional - The location and people were amazing. My family always felt comfortable. The pool and view were fantastic.
- Robert (9/5): Great place - Beautiful sunset views from #5. Great people. Very quiet and cozy. Good food in the restaurant. If your Spanish is a little sketchy (like mine is), they communicate well in English also. Not a complaint, but its a little remote if you dont have a car. If you want drinks/snacks, stop on the way.
- Genesis (8/5): Refreshing - Nice view and quietness None
- Katie (10/5): Please stay here, great place, great views - Great views, great pool and family room was massive with epic views. Really exceeded our expectations. The pool and drinks at sunset was epic the views were insane and staff so attentive. Great place wish3d we could have stayed longer.
- Blais (9/5): Superb -
- Laurie (10/5): Beautiful views on a volcano ! - What an amazing little spot. It's essentially a mini resort with only about 6 villas all nicely spread out over the property. There is a common area that is the eatting area/bar which overlooks the pool area. We spent all our time at the pool and the bar is filled with lots of beer ! They also serve food from 7-7 and I have to say it's really delicious, although considered a bit more expensive it was well worth it.
The pool needs some TLC but didn't matter for us, well laid out pool with incredible view of the water and the volcano conception and youre surrounded by lots of greenery. There are monkeys that you can spot from time to time and they have property dogs that watch over you !
It is a little bit further away from the hustle of other places but we didn't mind as we rented ATVs to enjoy the ride. (Advice in general for this island is to rent anything as there is almost no transportation and this will restrict you from enjoying what the island has to offer). Takes about 15 mins to Santa Cruz.
Staff was great, very friendly and always willing to help out. Rooms was very big and clean with your own personal porch. Very high hill to get up, was easy on atv but if you have a scooter and aren't very experienced maybe park at the bottom (2 min walk up).
- Inge (7/5): Perfect location - The location, it is a beautiful location! The staff had the wrong music on in the restaurant, and it was way to loud. This is spoling the good vibes of the location.
Also a pitty the swimmingpool can be used by People Who are not staying there.
The Pool is not very big
- Catherine (6/5): It was okay. I was expecting more based on the pictures. - Nice restaurant. Large rooms. Nice staff. Pool was in need of repair, cleanliness could be improved. Rooms had some creepy crawlies.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very kind and helpful! The pool and grounds were very clean
- Jamie (4/5): Friendly staff, nice view, would not return. - Running water for showers was not available.
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional - The pool and view of Concepcion is unbeatable. All the gardening is beautiful and creates an amazing vibe
I have stayed here many times over the years and the girls working there are always amazing! Super friendly and they go above and beyond for guests
Sunset drinks at the pool is one of the most beautiful things ever!!
- Arwin (9/5): Amazing view, well worth the trip. Perfect for peace and quiet. - View of the sunset over the lake, with the volcano as a backdrop. Friendly people owning the place. It’s a little far past the constructed road. So you will have to do some serious off roading to get to the place. Its worth it though.
For the ‘fancy-travelers’ something to keep in mind:The whole island is jungle, so occasionally you’ll run into a snake or a tarantula. The owner helped me get rid of a particular one near my room☺️
- Marlene (9/5): Superb -
- Milou (8/5): Great views, but not the best location - Great view from the pool which is unbeatable! Our room was clean and comfortable. Location on Ometepe is a bit more remote and harder to get to, we didn’t want to drive at night so than you have to eat at the hotel restaurant. The pool needs some maintenance
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - Very nice staff, friendly and helpful. Fantastic views from restaurant and pool. Tranquil, nice bird life around. Remote The pebbled shower
- Veronica (7/5): Good - Fantastic view, lovely staff The pool was not clean.
- Dean (8/5): The view, cmon!!! - Incredible view!!! Nice pool area and bar/restaurant. Bungalows were very nice. Expect bugs, you are practically in a jungle. Howler monkeys in the morning. The drive there is LONG!!! The road at the end is pretty rough and the driveway is steep!!
- Hannah (9/5): We had a lovely stay at hotel omaja, the hotel was very quiet when we were staying which meant we often had the pool to - The pool has an amazing view- the perfect place to watch sunset! The location wasn’t amazing
- Angharad (9/5): Unbelievable view - The view was unbeatable, it was amazing to wake up to, and to wind down to at sunset. The pool was lovely, and the breakfast was tasty. You are very close to nature- we saw horses, lizards, cats, dogs and amazing birds here Our room felt like it could do with a lick of paint!
- Estefania (8/5): Very good -
- Suzi (1/5): Bad -
- Whitney (10/5): Check out our video on YouTube. Bella stylesmiami channel. - https://youtu.be/rri2MZTGiTk?si=eJvANb3jmlxarB6n you can check out our YouTube video here!!! Beautiful place!
- Lucy (7/5): Beautiful location, average hotel - Super location if you have your own transport otherwise $25 in a taxi from moyagalpa. Great location for kayaking the istian river and climbing maderas. Lovely gardens and views. Food was average.
Water in the pool looked cloudy and uninviting.
Uncomfortable furniture around the pool - mainly wooden chairs and loungers and a couple of hammocks. Not really anywhere you can relax comfortably.
- Annette (10/5): Would stay here again! - Loved this place! It was clean, the staff was great, and the food is tasty. The pool view is epic! Must stay here if you come to Ometepe! They don’t respond to any emails or phone calls
- Jordan (10/5): Perfect - I’ve stayed here many times now and it is always great. The staff are amazing, the rooms are always clean and food is great. The pool with the view of the volcano tops it’s all off. Can’t wait to go back.
- Flore (8/5): Gorgeous view of the lake and perfect location to discover the island - The view of the lake and volcano were amazing, the staff was great and friendly and the location ideal for a weekend on the island The only issue was that the pool seemed very dirty, the leaves on the floor felt like walking in algae in a pond
- Angie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Judith (9/5): Superb -
- Steven (9/5): Relaxing and the staff was very helpful - Beautiful location, great views, really friendly staff The WiFi was spotty and not reliable… the water pressure was low… this were the only issues. All the rest was great
- Jeroen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ivan (8/5): Far from everything, perfect only for relaxation - Nice view, nice swimming pool, big and comfortable bungalow. Far from everything. You can reach the nearest small store with a tiring walk. If you want to go somewhere you really need to hire a motorbike (Ometepe Island is disappointing, there is almost nothing to see). The on site restaurant has limited options, expensive and only the fajitas were enjoyable...
There weren't any chairs on the balcony...
- Debora (9/5): It was great, very affordable, amazing view. - The view and location was great. The food was good but somewhat plain. The staff were very pleasant and helpful The food could have been more adventurous and I would have happily paid more.
- Brian (10/5): Could not ask for a better stay. Thanks :) - Everything about this property was great. Peter was a fantastic host. Pool was great with a fantastic view of perfect sunsets Location was great if you had transportation. We had two scooters and explored all over. Food and drink were also great Everything was great but you need some form or transportation or you will have difficulty exploring the island. It’s more remote but still close to most activities on the side of the island.
- Ivan (8/5): Far to reach but worth it for the views of the lake and volcano. - The view of of volcano was breathtaking. I was annoyed getting charged for extra beers that I didn’t drink from the male waiter.
- Gabrielle (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing views, friendly staff, great breakfast included. Large rooms!
- Kevin (10/5): We only stayed the one night. It was great and we enjoyed our stay there. - Breakfast was very good. The location was peaceful and very beautiful
- Fk (10/5): Exceptional - Great place - nice view, friendly people and surrounded by nature. Although a good location for most of the tours on the island.
- Robert (10/5): GREAT PLACE TO RELAX. they have great food and drinks so you really don't need to go anywhere else. - Nice casita with AC and hot water. Nice staff, beautiful sunsets. great food, great hillside location, and drinks on site. It's over an hour from the ferry port. I drove in and it's an easy bumpy ride watch for speed humps and big dips everywhere. There was not much water pressure, just enough to shower slowly. The toilet float in the tank kept hanging up, or the chain would fall off. I had to open the toilet tank top and fix it several times so it would flush. When I arrived the toilet wouldn't flush and I found the tank float was open and hung up, and the water was running for who knows how long, a huge waste of water in cabin #8. when it sticks the toilet free flows into the drain. The pool was cloudy and could have been cleaner.
- Natan (4/5): Nice view bad stay for the money they requested - Only the view The room we choose one room with queen bed we got room with the 3 different beds the mattress are old and terrible and no water for shower or bathroom until they will active the water pump.No water during the night they closing off the pump. In my room no electric outlet only for the 15” TV that doesn’t work.
- Carlos (8/5): Very good -
- Julia (9/5): Superb - Amazing view from the terrace and infinity Pool. Good food, friendly staff who help arranging scooters and tours.
Room with AC Nothing really
- Jeffrey (8/5): Very good - No flatscreen as in description
- Kristen (8/5): Very good -
- Robertoso (9/5): Great hotel in Ometepe with beautiful view - Very friendly staff specially Heidy. They treat you as your home. The pool is nice and the restaurant in place is handy. The beds are good for sleep. Nothing but better go in an ATV or 4x4 car as you need to get up on a steep hill.
- Dena (8/5): Off the beaten path and understated. Good value. - Very secluded location and totally worth it. Quiet beauty! Plumbing was a little on the old side and the island lost power several times during our stay so, it was hot without the AC.
- Tianna (2/5): Very poor -
- Wendy (7/5): Stunning views and infinity pool, tired rooms, need your own transport - The infinity pool and view were amazing. The grounds were beautiful with gorgeous flowers and plants everywhere and very peaceful. Staff were friendly and accommodating with good English. Breakfast was included and the other Food was decent as well, prices average.
The location up the hill meant there were few mosquitoes unlike the rest of the island. We stayed beginning of Dec which is end of rainy season and extremely buggy everywhere else. Location was far from the port which is fine since we had a car but if you don’t have transport, you are stuck there as it’s up a hill. Really no food options close by and definitely not by walking.
Driving wise - Merida is unpaved and the roads are a bit rough, it would be challenging arriving at night as the road to the hotel was not lit not was their sign.
I stayed in Room 8 which was a small room - it was the last available - and I can honestly say it was sort of a dump. Crooked paintings, holes in walls, sheets as window coverings, stains all over the walls, bed where you could feel the springs, AC that must’ve been over 20 years old (worked well) but sounded like an airplane, and worst of all there was a gap at the bottom of the door so there was always about 20 large ants on the floor so you couldn’t take your shoes off for fear of stepping on them and they bite. One morning we woke up and opened the door and there were thousands of those ants on the porch, all over the door frame and wall. I have no idea why but they eventually went away.
Breakfast was 2 options - Nica breakfast or 2 pancakes (no fruit or any other side). Always the same and average.
I checked out the family room and it was large and in slightly better shape but it was just as tired looking and the couch was covered in stains and very musty smelling.
Overall expect very basic rooms with stunning views
- Dalleen (9/5): Superb -
- Ortega (10/5): Exceptional - Spectacular view
Very spacious cabina.
Nice restaurant.
Heidi is very sweet and helpful. It's quite a distance from the ferry and the road becomes dirt. But it seems there is work being done to extend the finished road.
Small breakfast. Juice or fruit would have been nice. But, hey, it's included!
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (10/5): Relaxing stay with excellent drinks and view - Excellent free breakfast - you can choose between rice and beans with egg or a gigantic pancake. The bartender is very good, we drank many pina coladas and margaritas in the infinity pool with spectacular views of the sunset over the lake and volcano. Owner and staff are friendly. Room was huge and very private, and the air conditioner and shower both worked well. The restaurant has good food so no need to leave for dinner. Would be nice to provide drinking water in the room.
- Haydee (10/5): Gorgeous Experience. - The view from the pool was amazing :) Room quiet, really big , bathroom was good. Both options for breakfast were super good. Super in love of Nena, one of the puppies of the property <3
Priscila and Joshua were super attentive, kind, always with a smile in the face :) Food was amazing!!! Congrats to the chef. :) Maybe have more options for breakfast :)
- Sijbesma (9/5): Beautiful - Beautiful location. Food was good. Staff very friendly.
- Vidad (9/5): Great place to stay - Magical little place with stunning view
The sound of the monkls and birds are music to ears No shampoo
- Bar (9/5): Superb -
- Jan (9/5): Superb -
- Ana (9/5): Superb - Friendly staff wanted to thank Joe for his unique way to treat clients.
Had a great time,
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Pool Bugs. A LOT
- Maria (8/5): Very good -
- Ugolev024 (8/5): Good place. Beautiful view. A little far from the ferry, but easy to get to with a VTT/car. - Big room, comfortable beds, A/C, good shower head/pressure.
The pool and the view are amazing. Best part of that hostel.
Food was ok. Not the best recommendations from the staff. Went to the San Ramon waterfall after 2pm, told the host and he didn't inform us that it was too late to get in.. He should have known that since it's "at proximity".
