Bed was comfortable but being situated next to the door, I was frequently woken up by people opening and shutting the creaky door. The bathroom was a bit dirty and all toilets were wet as they doubled as shower stalls. Hotel staff were super friendly and very helpful while the location was the best for catching an early train from Colombo Fort train station.

• Verified traveler (8/5): Nice budget alternative - I stayed in a premium capsule for two nights. It was nice and clean and the room had a perfect air conditioner. Also the service was good. This is a good budget alternative and the capsule concept will only get problematic if your roommates snore or can’t keep quiet during the night.

• Linda (10/5): - Superställe för nån enstaka övernattning. Påväg till/från flygplats eller för vidare resa i landet. Rent, säkert och väldigt hjälpsam personal. Sköna sängar och och väldigt tyst trots att många bor i samma rum. Sov mig igenom hela natten och jag är lättväckt.

• Nicholas (10/5): Clean, comfortable, capsule hotel stay. - Brief stay - really just to be close to Fort railway station for an early-morning train - but impressive capsule hostel at this price point, with clean and proper bedding. Beds are robustly built, so that others moving in their capsules don't creak too much, and there is plenty of space within the pod. Would happily stay again. Helpful staff host.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place to stay for a night - The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. The whole room which has a capacity of 20 people max had only 1 floor stand hanger that could only hang several clothes and was fully occupied by other residents.

Llegue a las 8am al hotel y me cobraron 10€ por early check in, cuando por noche pagaba 13€. Un precio absolutamente alto. Además a las 11 me despertaron para hacer la habitación. Muy mal servicio en este caso. Deberían cobrar un precio razonable.

They gave us warm welcoming and useful information. breakfast was really good. Strong wifi. All things were fantastic.

I usually don't stay hostel type of the places due to the shared bathroom, privacy and security concerns. But Star Anise was one of my best hotel experiences traveling in Sri Lanka. Very friendly and super kind staff, comfortable bed, kept clean in the bathroom and common areas which made my stay more comfortable. Thanks a lot Sajitha, Nanda kumar and Roshan!
• CRAIG (10/5): I started and ended my trip here. - great place to start and end your trip in Sri Lanka.. it is 5 min walk to Fort station where I got a train to Hikka. I took a tuktuk from airpirt to this hostel for 1600 rupees. there is an ATM at bottom of the road. There is a roller blind to give you complere privacy in your capsule. Clean towel was provided WIFI is good. Hot water Roof terrace for smokers. Only slightly negative thing is that the USB outlet in the capsule barely charged my phone. I had to use regular charger. Breakfast sandwiches were not to my taste.

• YI LI (8/5): Ok for staying couples of days in Colombo 1 - Hostel is located in the Fort area which is easy to visit the Old Dutch hospital for restaurants and beach for sunset. Beds are clean and comfy. Breakfast is basic and tasty. The point is no hot water for a shower.

• Verified traveler (8/5): comfortable and clean - These capsules are comfortable and clean and it was good for a 1 night stay. The area is good for colombo, not far from railway station etc. Breakfast is so-so but at least you can start your day with some fuel in your tank. A few things that could improve: would be better to have separate shower and toilet cubicles because shower over the toilet means it's always wet. Also it would be good to update the WiFi passwords given in the information sheet as they are not the current ones. I asked the guy at the reception for the password and had to ask him to repeat several times until I got it. Also it would be good to organise breakfast a bit better. For instance, put all cups on the table by the coffee so people can just help themselves instead of having to ask for a cup, then the coffee, then some milk etc. Will be a lot quicker.
• rowan (8/5): Modern hostel with comfy beds - We stayed a night in Colombo ahead of our Sri Lanka adventure and really liked this place. Clean and comfy beds and modern and class bathrooms. Good location only 10 minute walk to the train statio. Only downside was that it was fairly pricey and breakfast wasn't great. Overall 8.5/10

• Sebastian (6/5): Okay - This boutique has great potential being super fresh in its design and having a central location in fort area of Colombo. But due to its management, and some strange features in the dorms, it can be a let-down. The storage under the beds do not fit anything larger than a small rugsack and the hotel does not offer storing in a luggage room so lock up your valuables and hope that no one plants drugs in your backpack. The biggest let-down was that breakfast is supposed to be served from 8 am (and it is the poorest resurser I have ever encountered consisting of instant noodles, an egg and a toast) but In fact they start preparing the breakfast at 8. This complicates things if you Only had 15 minutes to spare before you had to catch the airport shuttle. Overall an okay stay with room for lots of improvement.

• Yi (10/5): 隐藏在老建筑里的新生活 - 客房在二楼，行李要自己扛上扛下。限定时段内提供简单的早餐。就是青年旅馆的格局，设计装修都不错，洗手间和淋浴位置充足，公共活动空间宽敞。床上有个帘子，床下是带锁的储物柜。前台的妹子和小哥都蛮有亲和力的。送机一车价格是18美元。 酒店坐落在荷兰医院附近的一条小路上，旁边的房子破破烂烂感觉有点怪。街口有KFC和food city，也是古老的建筑，晚上七点就关门了。
