Guest Reviews
- Pamela Nichol (10/5): Perfect stay for a Ball Arena concert getaway - Amazingly gorgeous and quirky room. The ceilings were amazing. Close to our concert and fun activities and shopping. Delicious breakfast. A perfect getaway!
- Wilma Ranae (10/5): - The location was convenient to family living in the area. It was a beautiful house. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast excellent.
- Deborah (10/5): Unique very special place. - Incredible place. Checkin hours are limited but was given good instructions to self checkin. As an old Victorian house it didn’t feel very warm and friendly arriving at night. But owner was very warm and friendly when we met up in morning. Breakfast was excellent. Neighborhood lovely.
- Sergei (10/5): - Wonderful stay in a beautiful historic building! The neighborhood is charming and safe, and the jacuzzi was absolutely perfect for relaxing after a long day. Highly recommend!
- Cindy (10/5): - Joel was very personable and made a great breakfast.
- Samuel (10/5): - The room was lovely, and the property was in a great area with lots of restaurants and shops around. Staff was super helpful and breakfast was great. Only complaint was the ac took a while to start working to cool down the room. Other than that it was perfect for a weekend getaway.
- Dakota (10/5): - This was one of the most prettiest places i have stayed and it was such a great energy to walk into. I sadly was in rough condition i couldnt enjoy it as mich as i wanted to. But what i could enjoy it was amazing.
- Orestes (10/5): - Great location, amazing care by its owners and such a wonderful manor from the late 1800s early 1900s
- Chris (10/5): - the staff is very friendly and the breakfast was wonderful. When we need to stay in Denver we will stay at the Lumber Baron Inn
- Ekaterina (2/5): - We arrived at the hotel and the hostess was very nice. However we noticed a Lot of weird things around the house, brooms, salt in the conner, crystals and shrines and other which craft things. We checked out the property history and got really scared. We ended up booking a different hotel and never went back. The hostess was very nice as i said but the vibe of the place was strange to say the least. I wish we knew what this place was all about before we booked it but no reviews or the hotel description mentioned the haunted vibe of the place.
- Hayley (10/5): - Great hotel, very cozy and clean. Thank you!
- John (10/5): Beautiful inn, fine staff, fabulous breakfast - This is a beautifully-restored mansion in a pretty neighborhood. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Owners John and Elaine as well
as staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Best of all, breakfast is five star-wonderful!
- John (10/5): Lovely 1 night Staycation - Joel was an amazing host, the inn and room were beautiful, and the breakfast was delicious. We will be back!
- Lori (10/5): Beautiful B&B - Lovely home and breakfast was amazing. The owner was wonderful and always there!!! Great location.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A lovely stay - Lovely historic Victorian home-turned BNB. The service was perfect, and the rooms were lovely, clean, and cozy.
- Laurel (10/5): - We loved our stay! Everyone was so nice! From the time we arrived to the moment we left, we felt as if we were at home away from home. I had a knee injury before our arrival so I did struggle with the stairs. Not a criticism at all, just something for travelers to be aware of. We stayed in the Colorado room which was comfortable and very quiet. All the decor was lovely and we were in love with everything about it. Thank you everyone at the Lumber Baron Inn- you all were simply wonderful.
- Sara (10/5): - The history and decor take you back in time. The staff are wonderful people who help make the stay even better.
- Christopher (10/5): - This is a beautiful historic inn. Our stay included a very substantial breakfast, with more than one menu choice, served in the lovely dining room. We stayed in the smaller Colorado room, which was immaculate with period furnishings. The queen bed was against a wall, which means if two are sleeping in it, the person on the wall side's egress is climbing out the foot of the bed, however, moving it out would block the beautiful fireplace. The room itself was comfortable in size and had a nice chair for relaxing or reading. The toilet is in a very small closet room, which was a bit snug for me as a taller person with long legs. This is not a complaint, but something to be aware of when choosing this smaller room, vs. one of the larger ones at the inn. (It is the least expensive room at the inn). The sink was nicely accessible off to one side in the main room. The shower was small, but beautifully done in the space available. We were there for an event the next day, which was also catered by the inn and served in a separate dining room. It was perfect. The innkeeper was pleasant and even carried our suitcases upstairs when we arrived--a nice bonus, as we arrived tired after hiking all day!
- Ricardo (2/5): - I’ve been here for two or three hours and I can’t get in the room. No email back no phone call nothing
- Lea (10/5): Great stay - Lovely owners. Eclectic stay. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful neighborhood. Great location.
- Rachael (10/5): - This inn is STUNNING!! The owner, Elaine was so kind and helpful. The gardens out break are hotels and pencil to relax in, and breakfast in the morning was delicious i had the trout and eggs. I can't wait to come back, i can't recommend this place enough (:
- Margaret (10/5): - The Lumber Barron Inn is tucked away in the Potter Highlands district of Denver. It offers a quaint, unique bed & breakfast experience that transports you back in time to the late 1890's. This Queen Annes style mansion has been restored to its former glory with insanely beautiful woodwork that reflects the lumber empire of John Mouat, the original owner and builder. It is absolutely charming with beautifully landscaped exterior and garden.
- Bess (10/5): - We enjoyed the cleanliness and simplicity of the decor, there were a lot of decorative touches to keep the place "within theme" and cozy, without being overwhelming. The property itself felt almost secluded out of the city with the trees that wrapped around the back garden it was quiet and serene to drink coffee in the next morning. listening to the water feature was relaxing, and there was a nice variety of plants in the gardens.to enjoy. The breakfast was a good start to the day and we appreciated having coffee early.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Beautiful place. Loved walking around the neighborhood to see the other homes and front gardens.
- Michele (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay very much, and breakfast was excellent. I hadn’t read anything about the Inn before booking my stay, but after knowing more about it, my stay makes more sense.
- Dennis (10/5): - We enjoyed and appreciated the history of the home and neighborhood! Our check in was so smooth and welcoming even though we had made arrangement to check in early. We really appreciated the owner allowing us to invite a family member, who lived in the neighborhood to join us for breakfast.
- Mark (10/5): - The property was charming and our host was very accommodating.
- mike (10/5): - They take good care of you and have a great breakfast. It is in a quiet neighborhood but walkable to dining and shopping. Very convenient to downtown Denver. Elaine and Joel were perfect hosts.
- John (10/5): Fabulous inn, great staff, 5-star breakfast! - Beautiful historical property with large comfortable rooms. The breakfast is five star! Try especially the Scottish French toast. Owners and other staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Location is wonderful-charming neighborhood within walking distance of central Denver. I couldn’t recommend this more highly!
- Markus (10/5): - This is not a hotel. It’s a castle! In close proximity to downtown and conference center ($10 Uber ride). Absolutely unique stay in a rustic yet very clean room, much attention to detail and a fantastic bed. Incredible breakfast options included. Great staff, too.
Booked this last moment for a conference and I’m blown away by the experience.
- Mark (10/5): - Very attentive and friendly staff!
- Payam (10/5): - My husband and I stayed three nights with another couple here and what a find it was! From the moment we arrived, The owner passion for hospitality was evident in every detail, from the cozy ambiance of the rooms to the delicious breakfast spread that felt straight out of a gourmet kitchen.
Speaking of breakfast, wow! Every morning, we were treated to a feast of homemade delights crafted by the owner, who also happens to be a talented chef. Each dish was bursting with flavor, and the presentation was impeccable.
Overall, our first-time experience at this bed and breakfast exceeded all expectations. If you're looking for a place where you're not just a guest but part of the family, look no further. We can't wait to return!
- Merat (10/5): Awesome - Extremely welcoming. Very clean. Breakfast was made by chef and very delicious.
- Amber (10/5): - Our experience was excellent and the owners were very nice snd accommodating. Guests that stayed there were pleasant. Nice rooms, big tub, beautiful decorations and the breakfast was delicious. We did not realize they had a small bar; otherwise we would have used it. Wonderful stay. Thank you!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Charming Inn in the Snow - Very charming stay in a beautiful mansion. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. The Garden Suite was spacious and clean. I appreciated the jetted tub during the snowstorm. Breakfast was yummy too! Convenient location in safe neighborhood. Free parking
- Patricia (2/5): - The owners overwork they stated they have been up since 4 am and had no tolerance for teenagers and will not refund my money, I pad for two rooms and used non I wish them lots of happiness because money will not buy them that, care for your business, be less unpolite what goes around comes around you aren’t hurting me you are hurting your business.
- Caroline (10/5): - The breakfast is incredible. The room couldn’t have been any dreamier. The energy is just amazing here. Thank you, Elaine! Your hospitality is unmatched and thank you for providing such a warm and loving atmosphere. We will definitely be back, we can’t stop thinking about Colorado! lol
- Duane (10/5): - I would definitely recommend this place for a nice little get away.
- Rhiannon M (10/5): Amazing - Was an amazing stay!! They allowed for a slightly early check-in to accommodate our plans, as well as making sure we knew how to get back in. The breakfast options are delicious and extra options are available to add to your beautifully prepared breakfast as well. The home feel, kind, loving service is outstanding to say the least. This bed and breakfast did not disappoint. We will be making future trips not only for bed and breakfast but brunch or tea time as well.
- Henry (10/5): - Everything was amazing!
- Gunhild (10/5): An Inn with Fabulous Charm - We had a wonderful overnight stay for our anniversary. The Inn is beautiful with all the old charm from the turn of the century, but modern facilities. Our room was very comfortable! The breakfast menu had many choices and was excellent! Extremely friendly and accommodating host as well.
- Lara (10/5): Beautiful and Clean - Beautiful inn. Very Clean, unique place. Fantastic location. Great Communication.
- Craig (10/5): - This bed n breakfast is lovely. Joel is a great host n very helpful. The breakfasts were excellent, the rooms were well appointed and comfy, the neighborhood was quiet.
This is the set bar I hold other bed h breakfasts to!
- Bjarne Albert (10/5): - Very quaint old mansion on a tree lined street in historic Highland district
- Brooklyn (10/5): amazing!!! - awesome place! a true hidden gem! the owner is so sweet, attentive and helpful! i would recommend this over a hotel any day!
- Stacey (10/5): - Beautifully restored mansion with wonderfully accommodating hosts. And the breakfasts? AMAZING! From sitting outside in the gardens behind the house to having coffee on the front porch, we enjoyed every minute in his historic property!
- Ronald (10/5): - 140 year old mansion.
- Ann (10/5): A Great Experience! - We had a wonderful night at the inn. Breakfast was exceptional and our host Elaine was so nice. I look forward to visiting again!
- Katherine (10/5): - Love it beautifully restored building!!
- Julia (10/5): - We will definitely be back to stay at The Lumber Baron Inn! We were swept off our feet with its charm, ambience, and beauty. Thank you for the wonderful accommodations and amazing breakfast!
- Jenna (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay here! The overall feel of the inn is homey and that carries over into the service as well! Each breakfast it felt like eating in a home instead of a restaurant, and the food was PHENOMENAL! I cannot recommend a stay here enough!
- Margaret (10/5): - I had the absolute pleasure of staying at this beautiful B&B for 5 glorious days. The owners Elaine and Joel were incredibly gracious, friendly and accommodating. My room (The Anniversary Room) was even more gorgeous than the photos could ever indicate. The room was spotless, the jetted tub relaxing, the atmosphere quiet and the bed was honestly the comfortable I have ever slept on. I slept perfectly each night peacefully with no noise at all to awaken me. Each morning I enjoyed a gourmet breakfast with a fabulous coffee blend. The Scottish flare on the French toast and waffles were delightful. Sunday afternoon my daughter joined me for tea and THE MOST amazing scones, cookies and sandwiches. My daughter is a vegan and they were able to accommodate this special request. The highlight of the week was the card reading with Elaine, following our tea. She offered wonderful insights and suggestions that my daughter and I found to be spot on. In all my years of traveling, this had to be the best lodging experience with absolutely the most comfortable bed and exquisite food. Elaine especially greeted me each morning with her friendliness and a strong cup of coffee. I highly recommend this establishment for lodging and dining for weekend brunch or Victorian afternoon tea. Thank you to my host and hostess for a wonderful stay and I know I will be returning in the future.
- Andrea (10/5): Warm and welcoming - This place is amazing! We had so much fun and the owners are incredible people. It was clean, cozy and beautiful. It’s an old house and you can tell they are always trying to keep on top of the repairs that come with a historic house. I didn’t feel scared or uneasy once, as there is a rumor of it being haunted. We stayed in the Valentines suite. We saw a few lights in photos that were probably reflections or old windows, and a few lights flicker (old electric) and creaky noises (old house). However it was warm and welcoming and I slept like a baby! There were not many guests at the time when we came on a Sunday night and got lots of history from the owner. I would recommend this for couples, or friends looking for an adventure! Come mid week for less crowds, however, please be quiet and mindful. The owners are awesome people and live onsite. Don’t be a disrespectful weirdo. I’m an open skeptic so I don’t know if it’s haunted, what I do know is it was an amazing experience for whatever reason you come to stay. Breakfast and tea were awesome too! I don’t like spending a lot of hotels, but this one was worth it.
- Patty (10/5): - We had such a wonderful time at this B&B and hope to return soon! The staff was excellent, and the Innkeeper Elaine was so sweet and accommodating! Such a beautiful building, set in the wonderful neighborhood of Sunnyside and 15 minutes to downtown Denver! Breakfast the next morning was so good! Don't hesitate to visit this gem from the Victorian era!
- Christine (10/5): The Honeymoon Suite - This was an amazing visit! Loved the history, the charm and the uniqueness of each room. The decor was true to the era and the service of those we encountered- was delightful. A great evening getaway- close to our dinner engagement with a quiet, peaceful evening to retreat to afterwards.
- Dewey W. (8/5): - Most all mansions are unique.
- Frances (10/5): Great B&B option in the outskirts of Denver - My wife and I enjoyed two separate nights at the Lumber Baron Inn this November. The house is quite spectacular. The innkeepers couldn't be more gracious and accommodating allowing early check in and storage of bags on departure day. The rooms are quirky, but what can you expect from a home that was built in the late 1800's. We would stay here again.
- Wes (10/5): - We stayed in the Anniversary Suite. It was spacious and the appliqué wall paper on the ceiling was amazing. Some upgrades in the room would be welcome as the sink was rather old and their was no privacy in the bathroom. Jetted tub was nice (we used it twice!). Breakfast was interesting (a dish with lamb sausage!), but some juice or toast with jam would balance out the savory part. Still we enjoyed speaking with a few people and we plan on returning.
- Shawn (10/5): - Classic building maintaining turn of the century feel with modern convenience. The room had a tiny shower and toilet, full sized sink, modern flat screen TV and AC. Beautiful wood furnishings and tile work. Fantastic renovation work has been done restoring this historic building to its former glory. Breakfast was incredible and the owners were very friendly giving recommendations to local spots. The neighbor it's in is nice and full of dog walkers so be ready to make some new canine friends if you walk the area. Just so you know there's a chance the place may be haunted, if you believe in that, but no ghosts were encountered during our stay.
- Ruth Ann (10/5): - This bed and breakfast is beautifully historic. Every room is different and they are all beautiful.
- Emily (10/5): Beautiful! - Quaint mansion!
- Brian (8/5): - Beautiful and clean. Our room was small and had very small toilet and shower area. No mini fridge.
- Argelide (10/5): - A very nice unique place the staff was awesome! The owner is pleasant and nice to talk to. Definitely will be back.
- Byron (10/5): Peaceful stay! - The house was GORGEOUS and authentically old-world throughout. It was a wonderful respite from the world.
- Sarah (10/5): Flawless B&B - Wonderful bed and breakfast, convenient to downtown Denver. The neighborhood was nice, there were cute restaurants near by. The inn was clean and quiet, we had a pretty room and the breakfast was delicious. This is a great place to stay when visiting Denver.
- Edwin (10/5): - Amazing property to stay at, the hospitality was more than we could ask for. The room was also amazing. Super clean and the beds were so comfortable. Can't wait to come back to Colorado and stay at the lumber inn again!
- Kerry (10/5): - This place is so beautiful! The owner was super sweet. It was easy to check in and out and the room was amazing. I definitely recommend this inn to anyone staying in the area. Can't wait for my next stay there.
- Aviva (10/5): - Such a cool historic neighborhood gem. Lovely owners and facilities and felt very homey and comfortable. Would definitely return.
- Erin (10/5): best sleep - AMAZING! Best sleep ever. This is an old house turned boutique hotel, totally worth it. Be warned the toilet could be in a tiny closet though- think of that if you need comfort.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Lumber Barron Inn is an amazingly well kept 19th century mansion with beautiful details and antique decor. It tells a very interesting story. The owners are lovely and treated us so well during our stay. We live in Denver but are so glad we took this perfect staycation!!!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Ambiance did not at all match the descriptions.
- Monique (10/5): Historical, gorgeous & pretty sexy! - I am in love with this place and plan to return soon!
Joel is the best host; you feel welcome and loved from first second!
And I couldn’t finish my gourmet breakfast!!!!
Do yourself a favor and skip the common for the extraordinary!!!!!
- Daniel (10/5): - Excellent experience! Such wonderful owners! The city is amazing and the Lumber Barron Inn is simply breathtaking!
- Nicole (10/5): - Joel and Elaine were amazing hosts. The B&B is beautiful. We had an amazing stay!
- Danny (4/5): Denver Weekend - The toilet room was so small I don't know anyone bigger than 5'10 would even fit in there. It was so small I had to drop my pants before going in. No room to bend. And my wife at 5'8" could BARELY fit in the shower stall. Souls not be allowed to serve as a hospitality facility until fixed. Not nearly enough power plugs anywhere. Sink in middle of room. Semi-friendly hosts
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Beautiful old mansion for events, but the accommodations were TERRIBLE. Don't book The Colorado Room. The bathroom amounts to a toilet wedged into a closet. Shower wedged into former space used for shelving? Sink was in the bedroom; absolutely no privacy. This room was booked for three; and a futon was promised. "Futon" amounted to a floor mat. For three guests in one room, just one bath towel was provided. Our third guest opted for separate accommodations in Denver. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Rating: 0 out of 5!!!
- Laura (8/5): - The building was unique and the neighborhood great and quiet.
- Jonathan (10/5): Cool place, great folks - Elaine, Joel, Sheila and their witchy friend were wonderful. It is a very cool place and really fun. The Colorado room is not great, everything else was.
- Douglass (10/5): Unexpected Surprise!!! - What an unexpected surprise we got at the Lumber Baron Inn! It is beautiful. The service was excellent, the breakfasts were wonderful and Joel, the owner was super!
- Debbie (10/5): Wonderful visit - This is a beautiful historic mansion with lovingly restored woodwork,. The bed was comfortable, linens luxurious and rooms large and comfortable. As a business person there was not a good place for working on a laptop but there were power strips for devices. Breakfast is included and cooked to order. The food is amazing and if you like french toast their version is the best i have had. The hosts are accommodating and friendly. I can't wait to return. Perfect place for couples and close to good restaurants.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Every thing was perfect. Cool atmosphere and beautiful house.
- Mari (10/5): - We had an amazing experience at the Lumber Baron Inn! The owner was incredibly personable and accommodating knowing all of the history of the home. The food and service were flawless. We will most definitely be returning!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Unique property in a great location within 20 walk to central downtown.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely excellent breakfast!! And the property is very charming, somewhat out of town, though, so you need a car or an uber.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This is a fabulous home. The owners are attentive, well versed in the history of the home. The neighborhood and can answer any of your questions about where to go or eat. I highly recommend staying here.
- Eric (10/5): - This is an old mansion with lots of history and I feel lucky that I was able to experience a piece of the history. This be a place that I visit again.
- Roy (10/5): Lumber Baron inn - Awesome decor. Old mansion with antiques everywhere. Quiet street, easy parking and comfortable bed. Breakfast was like dining at a 5 star restaurant. Yes it was that good! Owner and chef came out and talked making the experience awesome.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very nice in every way I had a nice thime food was great bbb
- Ryan (10/5): Haunted b&b - Beautiful bed and breakfast with haunted past
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I always look for a B&B with a large tub for Valentines Day because I have a tradition of washing my girlfriend's hair(gets me points for the whole year!). The Lumber Baron rooms all have large tubs. We were in the Anniversary suite. The breakfast area is spacious and classy with antique decor. The highlight for this property is definitely the SERVICE! Elaine(hope I got that right) was OUTSTANDING! Really 5 star service from the check-in to accommodating and setting up a table for dinner that I brought with me, Elaine was absolutely perfect! Will definitely return to this property in the near future.
- donna (10/5): Overnight as part of a concert trip - Everything was wonderful about our stay. The room was nicely done. Breakfast was great. The Victorian home is beautiful and the hosts share the history. We hope to go back and stay longer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Elaine is an amazing and wonderful person, the hotel is so much fun and the food is delicious. It was quite, the tub was out of this world (the colorado room) and I can't wait to go back!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place was great! Very charming.
We loved the history. Owner was very
Attentive and friendly. We will come back again.
- Brian (10/5): - The owners are so nice and accommodating. The breakfast food was great with a lot of choices. Nice outside area. Great tub in room! Would stay again for sure.
- Andrea (8/5): - lovely house. no place to sit and work....
- JANET (10/5): - Lovely room, warm welcome and wonderful breakfast!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Beautiful old home. - The place was beautiful, but there were some things that would have been nice to know ahead of time, like the fact that there was no central air and that the toilet was basically in the bedroom!
- Dukes (10/5): - This place is rich in history and very beautiful. The food was wonderful. The owners are so kind and accommodating. We spent most of our time there in the garden. Great choice for a b&b.
- F (10/5): - An absolutely amazing place. Owners are awesome. Magical, unforgettable, unique, place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): As expected - Good spot for us to stay
