- Hot springs access available from 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM.
- Reservations are required for spa treatments. Reservations can be made by contacting the hotel prior to arrival, using the contact information on the booking confirmation.
- Up to 2 children 2 years old and younger stay free when occupying the parent or guardian's room, using existing bedding.
- The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare requires all international visitors to submit their passport number and nationality when registering at any lodging facility (inns, hotels, motels, etc. ). Additionally, lodging proprietors are required to photocopy passports for all registering guests and keep the photocopy on file.

- P9736FYpascals (2/5): Helpful Staff, but Serious Issues with the Hotel – Not Recommended - Our stay at Choyo Resort Hotel, unfortunately, didn’t fully meet our expectations, especially in terms of value for money. While the staff were friendly and did their best to assist us, there were several issues that significantly impacted our experience. The room had a strong musty smell, and one we were offered smelled clearly of cigarette smoke, despite being a non-smoking room. The air conditioning in our final room wasn’t working, which made it very difficult to sleep in the hot summer temperatures. The onsen area also raised concerns, as the ceiling was visibly affected by mold, which made it hard to feel comfortable using the facility. We truly appreciated the hospitality of the staff, but some of the issues seem to be more structural or related to general maintenance, and couldn’t be resolved during our short stay. With some improvements in cleanliness and upkeep, this hotel could offer a much better experience. For now, however, we would be cautious about recommending it at the current standard.

- Sam (10/5): Very Nice Stay - after my wife did a thorough research and reading every reviews, we made a decision to stay at this resort hotel. We were very pleased with out decision. Everything exceeded expectation plus the therapeutic benefit of curing chronic back pain was gone after staying here. The bed was very comfortable and onsen water is of top quality and 2 different variety. We had a great stay and service was great. Half board dinner and breakfast were great.

- May (8/5): Great Location for the Ice Festival - The included dinner and breakfast was very good. The buffet dinner had alot of choices and so did the breakfast.The location of the hotel is ideal for the Sounkyo Waterfall Ice Festival which is only a 10minute walk from the hotel. We also liked the hotel shuttle bus provided from Sapporo, very convenient.

They have a sister hotel that allows you to have dinner there, or visit the onsen. Both dinner and onsen were better in their sister hotel. Good location to the mountain and easy walking to the cable car for mountain access. Next time, we will stay in the sister hotel

But when we went there to ask, there were tables available. Also when we arrived, we were asked to park at a carpark 2 blocks from the hotel. We noted there was a carpark right at the hotel building. We tried asking the reception if we could park our car at hotel and she said there is height restriction. However, I don't think my car was over the limit.
- Constanze (10/5): Tolles Zwischenstopp auf Rundreise in Hokkaido - Sehr freundlicher Empfang. Konnten unser Zimmer auch vor 15 Uhr beziehen und noch heiße Suppe in Lobby genießen. Onsen ist entspannend und sehr schön gestaltet. Frühstück und Abendessen sehr vielfältig. Zu Ginga Wasserfall nur 5 Autominuten und Kuradoke Seilbahn fussläufig erreichbar.

- Martina (6/5): Leider etwas abgewohnt - Wir hatten den Zimmertyp Japanese Modern. Das Zimmer war grundsätzlich modern in schönem Stil, leider schon etwas abgenutzt und sehr klein. Das Abendessen war überwiegend asiatisch und sehr gut. Das Frühstück war ausschließlich asiatisch. Das Onsen ist schön und hat dre Becken mit unterschiedlichen Temperaturen.

Buses and cars arrive and the reception desk comes to life! After a botched car rental ( thanks Expedia : ( - we took the bus from Kamikawa which was easy and cheap. The hotel onsen was great, we went five times over our two days! Breakfast and Dinner buffet were included - the egg omelet was my fave breakfast item. Loads of food choices. We walked to the Ryusei waterfalls and took the ropeway and chairlift and then hiked to the top of Kurodake. The town itself was quiet - June 26, almost deserted - but a stunning place to hike and onsen. Took the bus back to Kamikawa with ease. It’s an older crowd at the hotel, regimented meal times, but a really enjoyable experience.

- Ying-Hsuan (6/5): Not recommended - The 2-bed room is so small and the facility like toilet and shower is quite old. The Onsen area is really dirty. The restaurant is all-you-can-eat style for breakfast and dinner but the food quality is really terrible. There are so many tour groups staying in this hotel. So it is very hard to have food on the table all the time. The group guests usually picked up the food quickly. The food serving table and drink machine are really dirty. I stayed two nights and the food marks were still there no any clean. The hotel price is not cheap but provides really bad quality.

Check in was good n fast. staff could not really converse in very simple English, kind of expected but as a large resort hotel, perhaps a bit of conversational tourism english (which we experienced in other stays this trip) will be beneficial for the hotel and guests. We could not explain a simple problem we encountered. Stayed in a typical japanese styled room. Served its purpose. Onsen was big. Lots of day visitors. We had dinner included and it was a good spread. Food was ok only though if we compared to our other stays this trip. Breakfast was better in our opinion. The surrounding areas were beautiful with the autumn colours.

The onsen has very slippery floors, more so than other hotels’ onsens. Not a hotel I would recommend to anyone .

I couldn't wait to leave the hotel. If you are driving, you should consider staying somewhere like Asahikawa with more hotel options.

Actually it is very warm place with very warm staff. Rooms a bit old but by all means try to get the double western/Japanese room so you will have the choice whether to sleep on a regular bed or on fragrant tatami with the river noise on the background Massive indoor / outdoor onsen Massive good quality buffet for dinner and breakfast And fireworks and Bingo in august I guess It was an inmersión on how Japanese families go on vacation All in all I would recommend it

- YigalM (8/5): Nice base to explore the gorge areas. - It's a big resort hotel near Sounkyo Gorge. The hotel provides for big groups, but that doesn't really bother the other guests. We couldn't check in when we arrived, but the hotel lobby provides coffee and ice cream. The hotel was a good starting point to travel around the gorge, and going up the ropeway. Onsen was nice. Dinner was plentiful, though there is always an issue with the quality when such large quantities are involved.

I'm not sure if this is the case for all the hotels in the area but this facility seems to cater to Chinese and Korean tour groups who bring the volume of people that help this relatively large hotel stay in business. Facility was clean but a bit tired. Need to get to the onsen and have dinner early to beat the crowds.

- P4p3rW3ight (8/5): Onsen Hotel in Hokkaido - We stayed at the Sounkyo Onsen Choyo Resort Hotel overnight on 17/18 May. We travelled there with family (daughter, son-in-law, and two small children). The location was really nice, being in the mountainous area of central Hokkaido, where the Ishikari river, that runs through Asahikawa, is still a turbulent mountain stream. The hotel is a little run down on the inside in some places, but over all very nice. We enjoyed the traditional Japanese bedroom with futons, and the sound of the river rushing by added an authentic atmosphere. I particularly enjoyed the onsen. There are several pools including a cold pool (which possibly was intended for those using the sauna), and two outdoor pools surrounded by rocks. It was Spring, so no snow, but the trees in their new green foliage were very pretty from the perspective of the hot pools. The buffet meal and breakfast were both very good value and there was a good range of Japanese and Western foods. No oats, though. (I heard this comment from a British traveller).
- Frankie (6/5): Average stay but good onsen - We booked this hotel a bit last minute as we changed our destination from Asahidake to Kurodake when the Asahidake Ropeway announced it will be closed for maintenance on the days of our travel. While we enjoyed Sounkyo area the hotel was average. We stayed two nights and had half board, the buffet variety were virtually the same each day. For breakfast, staple like bread is not available. I do understand they mainly cater to local tourists. On the other hand we enjoyed the onsen experience especially the outdoor one.
- TIAO TAI (8/5): 值得推薦的住宿選擇 - 雖然是一家有歷史的老飯店，但環境、清潔、服務皆有一定水準，高CP值的住宿體驗，值得推薦。
- Clivette (10/5): Sounkyo - Older hotel. Well kept and comfortable. Dinner was delicious. Blankets warm. It’s zero degrees but we are loving it!

- Masami (2/5): - フロントマンの対応に問題あり。大きなスーツケースやカメラ機材を車から降ろしても、誰一人出てこず、それは仕方がないとしても、チェックインをお願いしているのに、フロントマンたちが笑いながら雑談に興じている。仮にも「リゾートホテル」を名乗る資格なし。ただし、温泉とサウナ、水風呂は良かったです。

- カツヒコ (8/5): - のんびり出来てよかった。
- あゆみ (10/5): - 予約時に、眺望指定が出来ずお値段も安かったのでお部屋からの眺望は期待していなかったのですが、まさかの川側でお部屋から紅葉と川を眺める事ができとても満足でした^ ^ ありがとうございました(^^)
- Jun (6/5): - ロケーションは良く、温泉も良いがとにかく夕食が微妙。食事をエンジョイしたい人には絶対オススメできません。 連泊しましたがメニューが変わらないため、食事にはまったく期待はできません。

- shigeko (8/5): - 施設は古びているが、温泉の泉質と雰囲気が良い。また、新しい姉妹ホテルの温泉施設も利用できる点は良く。スタッフの対応が素早く良い。
- Toshikazu (10/5): 非日常を味わえる - 外気浴、露天風呂が最高です。聞こえるのは鳥の鳴き声と川の音。目の前には緑の木々が生い茂り、その奥には岩、絶壁が大地の力強さを感じさせます。 バイキングも日本のものからアジア、アメリカ、ヨーロッパと海外の主食も並んでます。 実演のステーキは絶品でした。 非日常を味わうには最高の宿です。

- Verified traveler (8/5): 温泉が最高ですが食事は残念でした。 - 外観は古臭いですが、中は普通でした。 平日だったため、イベントのビンゴが中止であったり、夕食の開始時間が遅くなっていたり、夕食の品数が少なかったりと残念なところが多々ありましたが、宿泊者が少なく温泉はほぼ貸し切り状態でした。 フロントスタッフも、バイキング会場のスタッフも、売店のスタッフも接客はとても素晴らしかったです‼ 客室 和モダン (洋室)を予約しました。 マットレス２つは固く、くつろぐスペースは3畳ほどしかなく狭いです。 また、とても小さな冷蔵庫が押し入れ下段にありますが、2Lのペットボトルがもともと用意されているため、他に入れるスペースがほぼありません。 しかもまったく冷えない＆押し入れの中に熱気がこもります。 製氷機もないので不便でした。 温泉 硫黄の香りがしっかりとして、 層雲峡あたりの温泉では一番好きです。 夕食 平日で宿泊客が少ないせいか、1人用ジンギスカンも1人用鍋もありませんでした。 北海道らしさはほぼなく、海外の料理を日本人向けにアレンジされていましたが、どれも微妙で残念でした。 朝食 パンの種類が4種類しかなく、HPの写真との差が酷かったです。 ただ他のスクランブルエッグやベーコン、和食等、夕食よりは食べれるものが多く良かったです。 温泉はとても良かったので、素泊まりプランを出してほしいです！ もしくは夕食がリニューアルされたらまた泊まりたいです…
- Jean-Marc (10/5): A nice hotel in a beautiful setting - This big hotel is a little bit old-fashioned. However, overall the facilities were good and the buffet dinner and breakfast were very good. It is possible to book a private onsen bath for an extra fee, which is a very pleasant experience. We would definitely stay in this hotel again if we have the chance of visiting Sounkyo again.
- SariLynn12 (8/5): Winter Trip - Our first time to travel to Japan during winter. We stayed here overnight to see the Sounkyo ice waterfall festival. We stayed in a Japanese style room which we definitely did enjoy. Room was spacious for 3 adults ( a bonus ) . Mats and toiletries is well provided. Banquet is very chaotic during dinner ( maybe it's peak season ).
- lianemily777 (8/5): Good - It is quite a large property and so gets a bit busy at times. The room was clean and comfortable. Staff was helpful. Breakfast had variety. They also provided a shuttle to the winter festival grounds. There is an onsen but we didn't use. Parking was free.
- FRANK (8/5): - Hotel is a little old but still very clean and comfort. Dinner was very good and tasty which surprised me.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Use of sister hotel's onsen and great atmosphere! - Excellent atmosphere and buffet - the international buffet was of reasonable standard. The hotel made an effort to create a positive atmosphere by including activities such as free shuttle to an outdoor lighting exhibition - it was an added bonus when my friend and I saw a family of wild deers at the location! The hotel also provided a bingo activity where all visitors can join. Most, if not all, participants will win gift! Another added benefit is the free shuttle service to its sister hotel's onsen!
