Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was a very old motel. People were very accommodating and nice.
Only downfall was kids running up and down hallways in early evening.
- chey675 (2/5): Trash - Terrible customer service, hair still in shower, bed had only a top sheet and 3 blankets. Had to buy my own batteries for TV remote, garbage under the sink. did not get my deposit back as my room "smelled" like marijuana. I did not smoke in the room at all. Old food still in the fridge,
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Room smelt musty as if carpet had never been cleaned
- Verified traveler (2/5): - It seems that this property has not been kept up and I don't find the rooms are not poorly sanitized.
- Don (4/5): Tyee Port Alberni - The Motel is an older Motel and could use some upgrades. The price was OK but I got what I paid for. The overall 1 Night experience was just OK. I would only go back if I had to due to some of the existing clientele.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The suite was fine however upon arrival property seem in need of a major upgrade. External appearances really DO count. However since we only were there at night for sleeping - not so bad after all. If the suites were also upgraded namely new bathroom tub & fixtures we would be happy to stay there again. The tub had lost it's finish and faucets had not been cleaned during the time we were there - they were black.
- Graeme (6/5): “Quaint” - It’s an older Motel, and it shows. The staff are friendly. The rooms are spacious and much quieter than I expected. It’s very affordable and central.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The beds and pillows were hard and uncomfortable. The tub looked constantly dirty. the kitchenette is original to the building and the doors are in need of repair. was nice that there was an outdoor pool but it was too cold to use during our stay. there was shopping and grocery stores/restaurants close by so that was nice.
- Imee (6/5): - Well, the is ok, but the out side is not nice and also other occupants are smoking weeds that you can smell every where. I’m not against on marijuana but I think it’s better they smoke when there is nobody around them.
- Franny_027 (2/5): Worst motel I’ve ever been to - As soon as we walked in it smelled of pee and smoke, we pull the hida bed out and broke almost immediately... had to get a different room, same thing with smaller TV, it was so dirty everywhere, we had to clean it just to stay the night.. I would never recommend anyone to stay here
- LorlinaSzabo (2/5): - The receptionist is friendly and understanding because I have to asked for another room as it was smell of smoke. Again I have to asked another room because the pillow was full of hair and she replaced my room twice. The other room I have rented on the second floor my family was not able to sleep as there was a guy knocking on the door several times throughout the night but pretending he was knocking on the wrong door. There seem to be a lot of people living on that place and they are territorial when they know you are know they bother you. It was not a good night stay. The washroom are not clean and the floor seems to have some bugs or not vacuum something is wrong with the floor my skin close to my ankle were itchy like there are bugs. The hallways were not even like the whole motel is needing a total renovation seems not safe to walk without looking on the floor specially second floor slabs of flooring were coming off and dangerous. I do not recommend it for comfort stay it was noisy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient location. There is a McDonald across the road, and a Save-On-Foods nearby.
- Brandon (2/5): - Very dirty and beyond terrifying you could hardly stay their, almost everything is broken or trashed and it seems as if the owner doesn’t take responsibility or even care about the motel
- Melanie (2/5): - VERY dated and run down. Holes in furniture, countertops, torn curtains, peeling paint, no hairdryer etc, etc. Lady at the front desk was lovely however.
- j (4/5): - Room is bare bones budget motel. Bedroom has been updated and is clean but kitchen and bathroom are very old. Sink leaked constantly, large hole in the bathroom ceiling due to leak in upstairs unit, TV did not function.
- Susan (8/5): - Hotel needs some refurbishments - the outer decks are old; the curtains in the room definitely need to be replaced.
- Jennifer (10/5): Great place to sleep. Quiet. - This is an older hotel, with a pool. Very inexpensive, I used it as a place to stay while visiting the area and going out to Long Beach. Its not the type of hotel to use as a resort, but great for a landing pad.It was quiet at night and the air conditioning works.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It's close to the stores and good affortable price. You need to pay extra to use the kitchen.
- meer2003 (10/5): Highly recommended - Yes, the hotel is not super new, but very cozy, separate bedroom, living room , comfortable kitchen with a normal stove and fridge, convenient location, every thing need is about 5 min around .We were two days. Highly recommended.
- Q8632HBmichaelh (2/5): Omg what a Dump - Ok we arrived at 1 am sat morning after ferry ride. I saw reviews but ignored booked 2 nights, had to leave next am
Wow it's old dirty and smelly
The best was the towels
No signs of any renos
5$ pillows from Wal-Mart would be better
Whole place needs a complete workover
No work has been done in 20 years
- Robert (6/5): Overnight stay - Hotel was used as an overnight stay to continue to other points
- Geoff (8/5): Comfortable motel located near city attractions - Easy check-in. Friendly receptionist. Bedroom and bathroom were clean. We had problems with wifi connectivity but likely an easy fix that we weren’t too concerned about. Only issues were that there was no hot water for the bathroom sink and some noisy neighbours. Recommend if your looking for somewhere to stay a few nights while exploring what Port Alberni has to offer!
- bmac797f (6/5): It's a bed to sleep in - My kids n I stayed here a few days ago.
Check in was fast n friendly. I believe it was one of the owners and she was very accommodating n let me know what's around.
The room was dated yes. I mean I am not going to complain as the rate was right but it was pretty clean. Our room had 2 stoves but didn't use them. the counter had a couple burn marks. The bathtub was a bit stained and the tap dripped the whole time. The couch was comfy to sleep on and my kids said the beds were comfortable. The linens were clean n fresh. Wi-Fi didn't work well either.
Yes the motel needs to be freshened up n modernized but I will still here again when I'm in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - It was perfectly fine for the price. It was a 3.5 star experience.
- Bob (4/5): - convenient location but very tired
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Nice and quiet
- Dave (8/5): - The staff was extremely friendly, nice, and helpful. The room was clean and quiet. I had a restful night and a good experience. The property is getting to be rundown and not visually appealing. But if I were ever to be driving through this area again I would probably stay here again.
- Kev (8/5): - Had a very peaceful rest, ended off staying alone in the room so that was even more comforting.
- Ronald (8/5): - Cheap and cheerful, quiet, and a comfy bed. As a tourist, the place suited me absolutely fine.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - RUN! do not stay here!! The pool was green and gross...The hotel is so out dated. The bathroom needs more than elbow grease to clean it. Hard water stains, tub was black, paint peeling, broken window all in the bathroom. Good thing it was summer as the heater was falling off the wall. Fridge was not clean. Extra charge to use the kitchen....if you dared. Overall just run down, dirty and needs repairs! Walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - good price . fast service. only thing toilets were noisy and we had noisy neighbours the first night. other then that the rooms were great. good heat . loved how there was seperation from bed and living room . liked the kitchenette .
- dyanVancouver (6/5): you get what you pay for - Was very pleased that it is a pet friendly motel. We had a smoking room also hard to find these days. It is an older motel, it was not dirty just dated. We saw no bugs, for a Friday night it was very quiet. All staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful.
- silky (10/5): Stellar time at the Tyee! - Great check in servixe. Great room for you buck! Wkukd reccomend this to anyone. Rwallt comfy.
- shirley (8/5): comfortable and close to all areas where we wanted - close to all areas where we wanted to go. would recommend it to all my friends
- Michele (6/5): - Lieu rudimentaire couchage correcte. Bon conseil de la réception pour les restaurants alentours
- Verified traveler (10/5): TYEE VILLAGE MOTEL:CLEAN&MODERN INSIDE! Retro kool - See my other review from 4 days ago (Aug 25/17)
Tyee Village Motel is a very clean, quiet, centrally located cute motel on the main street when you drive into Port Alberni,BC. Easy to find motel with various stores/amenities/food places literally within 50metres of it in most directions which is very convenient. 15 mins walk or 2 mins drive downt thru/to the rest of the town..Waterfront harbour area 'downtown',more stores, restaurants, marina, fishing etc.
Modern updated *very clean spacious Suites on the INside*& have everything you could need for your stay in them 'as advertised'...made for a great repeat visit.
Excellent housekeeping, comfortable bed, large windows, clean inviting outdoor pool made a nice mini-vacation stay in the summer heat. #portalvegas !
Friendly staff,Great rates, Nice updated rooms,Awesome pool, and Quiet at nighttime...much thanks Tyee Village :)
- Sylvain (4/5): Pas fort comme motel - Tant qu'à payer $90 allez ailleurs
- Verified traveler (10/5): TYEE VILLAGE: GREAT PLACE TO STAY IN PT.ALBERNI ! - A GREAT motel in Port Alberni!
The Location:Tyee Village Motel is conveniently located along the main street as you come into Pt.Alberni off the highway&self-parking was included.*NO traffic going by once 10pm arrived made it very quiet at night.* Many amenities r across the street..McDonalds/pizza/drugstore/groceries etc
The Motel outside: Super-cool 50s/60s "MCM" exterior,well-maintained grounds,lg.clean outdoor pool w/patio chairs, tables etc for relaxing at. If you tell yourself "oh it looks kind-of old...?" & pass it by, you'd be missing out on a great l'il place to stay.
The Motel inside: Updated/newer/modern with clean new carpets+wood laminate floors. And it's Not just a tiny room w/ a bathroom..it's a full Suite w/liv. room/kitchn/bthrm/seperate bdrm..very spacious with everything U need Included..couch,table&chairs,cable TV,wireless internet,coffee/tea,fridge,microwave etc. *More like a furnished apartment!* The cool Air Conditioning was fantastic&standup lg.fan appreciated.Housekeeping was truly excellent here&they so deserve the compliment for their attention to details as the suite was VERY CLEAN throughout (yep.."NO gross mystery hairs" in the bthrm or crisp white bed linens!)
The Pool: Outdoor, lovely, very clean as got no skin irritation from it whatsoever.
The Staff: Everyone was nice.
The Reviewer?: 40 yrs lady, well travelled,easygoing...and has pretty high hotel standards!!
- Jason (2/5): Absolutely horrible - - stay away! - Easily the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The room was dirty (especially the carpet and sofa), the toilet was plugged upon arrival, the sink leaked on the floor, the shower was covered with hair, one of the beds wasn't on the frame so there was a large dip in the middle, AND the room was roasting hot with A/C only in one of the two rooms. You'd be more comfortable sleeping in your car. Absolutely horrible!
- T (2/5): Would never recommend. - On other reviews, the owners of this motel have responded that their lower prices make up for any shortcomings the motel may have.. you get what you pay for. This is not the case. For more than $100 a night (Which is what the bill worked out to once we added our 3rd and 4th person to the bill) you AT LEAST deserve a room with screens on the Windows that open (yes, it was terrifying.) You deserve not to have the ceiling in the bathroom covered in black mold. You deserve to not almost fall through the stairs up to the room, due to rotting. Had there been any other hotels in Port Alberni that night, we would have left. The pros? The woman at the front desk seemed pleasant, although seemed like we were dragging her away from whatever she was doing in the back each time we needed assistance. AC in the bedroom worked, in spite of the funky smell. Also, due to lack of ventilation in the bathroom and lack of some kind of window covering, I could people watch in the next door parking lot while I showered... good times. Additional cons: fridge froze all of our food (yes, we turned it to a minimum setting... did not matter.) Stained sofa. Stained mattresses and box spring. Stained carpet.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It was ok... pool was closed. Staff was unfriendly.
- JEFFREY (4/5): - We made a reservation for 2 rooms, and the hotel manager said, all she can finded is one room, we are lucky, the hotel is not full, so we still have a chance to have the second room
- Sarah (6/5): Overnighter - Yep it needs a quite a bit of TLC but the room was clean enough. Don't think it is the best of locations and the signs saying there is a charge to use the kitchen, stealing a light bulb using extra tea/ coffee sort of tells me the clientele it's used to.so why spend a lot if you are still always booked up!? A small pool was Nice for the kids to cool off. Glad I was only here a night as the town itself did not entice me to want to stay.
There was laundry facilities and it was only a dollar a cycle.
My British equivalent would be a run down 1970's butlins.
- Mark (6/5): It is what it is. - Although this motel is a little tired looking and reviews were not brilliant, the room was clean and did not smell , which was what a lot of people said. The lady running the place was very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Motel has seen better times and it needs a makeover. Furniture is fairly old. Kitchen is available for long term rentals.
- lorita (8/5): - Overall it is good value.
- David (4/5): Not the best... - Was only in for one night, staff were great. However room not so much. Said none smoking but has the stale smell of cigarette smoke. Water stains on ceiling from old leak. Curtains didn't cover the whole window... time for a complete Reno!!!
- Kyle (2/5): Horrible! - This is not going to be a good review sorry. First off lets start by saying I didn't end up spending anytime at this motel.
We checked in, walked into the room, turned around and left! I cancelled all my hiking plans for the next day and went back home to Victoria. Very disappointed. The room smelled of gross old cigarette smoke and something else I couldn't put my finger on. The carpets were stained all over and were just gross.
During the check in the lady just was a awkward with my friend and I. We got a room with one bed and a sofa bed. The bed for one and sofa for one, she had this off look on her face the whole time, almost like she thought we were going to be sleeping together. I was not happy that we were being judged during the check in.
I never went back into the office to try and get my money back, we just left, and left the keys in the room. I was so upset and disgusted.
I've sent and email to Hotels.ca to try to get a refund. We will see what happens.
I wouldn't recommend this motel to anyone at all.
Very disappointed.
- Denise (4/5): Needs to be updated - electrical cords exposed
- old - water damage - stained carpet Nice to have a separate bedroom ---- had a kitchen - didn't use - plenty of space.
- Jess (4/5): Old, in bad need of upgrades - Price was cheap, building and rooms need work. Floors creaky and walls thin. Walkway on second floor spongy.
- Gerard (10/5): A Deal That Can't Be Beat! - The suite was big, clean, quiet and extremely comfortable.
- stevenhB914RD (10/5): Great Value for the price! - We were in Port Alberni for a wedding and were given a bunch of recommendations on where to stay. We picked the Tyee. I must say i was very surprised at the size of the room. For the price it was fantastic the room was a little tired and needs a fresh coat of paint however this is a local motel and i love to support local business (I work at a local inn in Sidney BC). The staff were both very friendly same with the housekeeping staff. Everything was clean. The Beds were comfy and clean. There was a faint smoke smell but after running the A/C for a few minuets it subsided. Would recommend getting a bigger broom to reach the very tall corners in the room there were a few cobwebs nothing major though. Overall great place and great stay. Also they are pet friendly. Thanks Tyee Village Motel for the wonderful stay. We will be back.
- tonybM6918XP (8/5): Great Value, Friendly Staff. - Visiting family in Port Alberni, we will be staying here every time we are in town.Dated exterior yes but the rooms have been renovated. Very clean and comfortable. Accommodating Staff centrally located, close to shopping.
- Lyynxx (2/5): Awful. Room smelled like dead horse - The place creeped me out. I thought I was becoming sick just from being there. It stank, felt uncomfortable, and the lady at the reception was very rude .
Would never stay there again or recommend anyone going there .
I can deal with a lot , have no high expectations, but the hostel on Seymour in Vancouver was better even - I seriously considered sleeping in my car while my friend was already asleep . Very gross atmosphere. Yiuck
- AlberniKatz (6/5): No luxury but good value - This motel is dated, but adequate if you are not looking for luxury; and the price is reasonable. My single room, with one double bed, had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker and TV.
The motel is located just across the road from a small plaza with a grocery store, bank, McDonald's, pizza and coffee shops. The local bus exchange is also very handy.
- LynnValleyLee (2/5): Filthy - Serious bedbug problem, do not stay here. My friend was covered in bites after one night, this place is disgusting and should be shut down by the health board. I would rather sleep in my car than ever stay here again
- 842maryk (8/5): nice stay - had a nice, quiet stay at the tyee village motel, staff was nice,
room was clean, and had full size kitchen that I didn't use. I only wish the restaurant
was open. But I was directed to a nice restaurant on Johnson street, to have my breakfast.
- budgetroamer49 (4/5): Needs a good clean - Only stayed one night, and glad as the room could be cleaner. Typical dated room with lots of chipped paint, stained grout in tub, etc. Huge black hair in the tub (how do you miss that?!?) with dirty feet prints, and when I patted the bed calling my pooch to jump up, ALOT of dirt flew up. Kind of gross actually. I'm not super fussy, so dealt with it. Room was big, two queen beds (for one person), good larger flat screen tv, coffee maker, microwave, fridge, air conditioner and fan. Enough coffee for one tiny cup only in spite of having two queen beds. Good location essentially right beside a Mcdonalds, Tim Horton's, Subway and Grocery Store. When I checking in the room they assigned was still not made up from the previous occupant, had to go back to the front desk and change. If you're the type that has to have a spotless room, go elsewhere.
- sexxim (2/5): Mind Blowing - I could not believe that woman at the front desk and how amazingly RUDE she was about everything, straight down to the parking spots. I recommend a different hotel unless being treated like complete garbage!!
- jeepyjay (6/5): Not Fancy but Friendly and Hospitable - The furnishings are basic and dated and the units are in need of cosmetic upgrages but they are clean, comfortable, and quiet, and the management and staff go above and beyond to ensure guest comfort. If you're looking for plush duvets and a pillow menu go somewhere else...and pay a lot more. This motel is an ideal choice for the budget conscious traveler and also offers kitchens, a clean outdoor pool, great location, restaurant, and in-room wifi. We spent 3 nights here and would not hesitate to return.
- 156fayy (10/5): Wonderful! - Comfortable (the most comfortable bed and pillows I've had in a hotel) and spotlessly clean suites, well equipped kitchen, great location and amazing staff. My three day stay ended up lasting two weeks and I hate to leave! Management and staff go out of their way to ensure your comfort - the restaurant truly does have the best fish and chips around, an amazing breakfast - all this at a great price. I highly recommend the Tyee for anyone visiting Port Alberni.
- kmc1971 (6/5): Budget option, good location - This hotel is centrally located (not that Port Alberni is that big), and the rooms are large. The rates are among the cheapest in town. The rooms are basically clean but very dated. Rooms come with a fridge and microwave, as well as a window-unit air conditioner. The toilet did not flush very well, and the bolts holding it to the floor were rusted off, so it was unstable. The bathroom had huge mildew stains on the caulking, and the fake tiles were rotting off on the bottom. The used soap bar by the bathtub seemed kind of gross (new wrapped ones were provided as well). The TV was large, but I could not get it to change channels. There were people talking loudly on the outdoor balcony connecting the rooms at 5:30 am.
In many ways a typical motel. Inexpensive, but not a great place. Very friendly service.
- bhilborn (8/5): It could be great, but.... - Management - 5 stars, convenience factor - 4 *. Cleanliness of room - 4 *.
Beds were comfortable, room was a generous size. Fixtures were older, and the unique (and old, not recently replaced) bathroom taps that just turned (water off, turn further, water on, turn again, off etc) were annoying but it was a minor annoyance.
Some of the clientele that 'hung out' in front of their rooms to smoke left much to be desired, and the smell of their cigarettes was enough to gag a person as you came and went from the room.
Value for money was reasonable.
- jalowan (10/5): Great! We'll be back - Great price for a large pleasant motel room. Very friendly and helpful owners. Clean, well-organized with good beds.
- traveller13444 (2/5): This place is a nightmare in every aspect - When i booked my room here i assumed that it was a larger size suite going by the description i got from the man i spoke to on the phone. It in fact was very small. The beds and pillows where super uncomfortable and they had a musty overly used smell so gross.... The bathroom was so dirty and the small fridge we got didnt even work. Nether did the tv remote... We were unable to sleep due to a party going on right above us and i must mention the water running constently. When the party faded around 4am the ongoing traffic took its place big rigs just flying by . A Nightmare trust me do not waste your money here.
