This Ryokan was highly rated and it lived up to the ratings. it was a serene and relaxing experience. Our room was very lovely and overlooked the small courtyard garden. The entire Ryokan was small, but very well-appointed and thoughtful. The staff was lovely. The food good. The room had so many nice amenities. But my favorite thing was the yukata (or in-home kimono). The Ryokan encouraged you to wear it to dinner (small, shared dining room) and breakfast. It was very comfortable and relaxing! The location was good. Easy to walk around or if you are more adventurous, rent a bike at the nearby shop and you can go further. Low ceilings in our room that my 6' husband had to be careful. We had ants in our bathroom, but they left after we showered and didn't come back.

The times/ rules are fairly strict however I found that to be the case in most restaurants across Japan. Just respect the customs and rules in another country.

Easy walk to subway and local convenience stores. Dinner is a superb Japanese meal freshly prepared in full view by the chef - we added the steak option both nights and it was sublime - melt in the mouth beef. Breakfast is traditional Japanese - appeared to be a western option ( ham,egg,toast) but they were unable to accommodate my request to change to this the night before - think you need to state this request when booking. Rooms are comfortable and full of features - wooden bathtub,complimentary snacks and drinks and ac. Overall an excellent choice - especially with the warm welcome and hospitality of the local staff.

Staff were warm and helpful; even helped us to clean the wheels of the luggage before bringing it to the room (because no shoes in the property). Kaiseki dinner was delicious! Lacked public onsen but there is a kinoki bathtub in each room to make it up for it. A little pricy given the lack of facilities but I can understand it is because the property has small number of rooms.

The food was one of our favorite meals during our two week stay all over Japan. Loved all of the products, friendly staff, ambience, and deep bath. We were here with our 7yo daughter and during down times used the library to play and enjoy. The place is near subways and conbinis nearby. The streets are quiet and serene. You will not regret your stay here. We will be planning our next Japan around trying to get reservations at this place!

- MarkH-WS (10/5): A wonderful return visit....two tips. - Having stayed here with my family last August, I had to book this Ryokan again as it is just so fabulously run. Again, Leana was wonderful, charming and helpful as we rushed to see the Palace(s), the Bamboo gardens and Cherry Blossoms. A repeated tip: have the hotel's name and address not only with you, but electronically copied for your Uber or Translator. It is located in the middle of everything Kyoto, but it is a small seven room Ryokan, so it is not as obvious as staying at the Train Station. It is in the middle of a neighborhood. Also, a new one that I cannot believe that I left out: sign up for breakfast and / or dinner, but I would do both. The food is wonderfully Traditional Japanese fare and if you are new to traditional food, then this is the place to try it.

The dinner and breakfast are one of the best meals that I have had, compliments to the chef, and the waitress was so attentive and considerate. My room was beautifully decorated and with a great view of the garden, and the private onsen is a dream. The additional amenities and products are top brands, such as the ReFa hair curler, the Pearl Elegance shampoo and conditioner, and so on. I loved my stay here and every single piece was carefully curated with great care and consideration for the ryokan customer. No notes. Everything was perfect and if there was an issue, I am sure that the ryokan staff would have helped me resolve any annoyance. I fully recommend a stay here.

Absolutely beautiful small hotel, immaculately presented with incredible attention to detail, felt like real luxury staying here. The Japanese Cypress wood bath was a highlight, felt like I had my own private Onsen attached to my room, as were the room, pyjamas and Yukata/Obi you could wear at the hotel too. In the morning I got up early and went and had a coffee in the little reading room looking out onto the inner garden, and actually think I've never been more at peace in my whole life. Really great location too: in a really lovely quiet set of streets a really nice calm and tranquil place to have as a base - but you're just 1 subway stop from Kyoto station so really easy to get to, and you can either walk or take the bus into the middle of town in 20-30mins. The staff are all absolutely lovely, and really helpful, Everyone I hadn't met when I checked in all already knew who I was when I then returned later on - I felt really well welcomed and looked after and felt this hotel really goes above and beyond to make its guests feel that way. Cannot recommend this place more, it was truly outstanding.

- PeterSamAdventures (10/5): A serene culinary retreat in Kyoto - We spent three nights at Muromachi Yutone as part of a Japan trip towards the end of the cherry blossom season. This was one of the most memorable stays of our journey. We absolutely loved this ryokan for the delicious chef made food, the kindness and hospitality of the staff and the meditative atmosphere. Here are 5 things that we loved about this ryokan: 1. The food. Lovingly and skillfully prepared by the chef and served graciously by his wife, this was one of the highlights of our trip. The Kyoto-style kaiseki, and especially the Kyotamba Hirai beef special, was artfully presented and something we looked forward to every day. We also loved the Japanese breakfasts and they gave us the warmth and sustenance for a day of sightseeing. 2. The home away from home feeling. Once you enter the traditional wooden doors from the outside you feel like you are coming home. The cozy library lounge, books and the complimentary snacks were additional features that made us want to stay and enjoy the facilities. 3. The garden. The small landscaped Japanese garden changes with the seasons and added to the serene feeling. We spent quiet moments just being enveloped in the atmosphere and watching the leaves blow in the wind. 4. The location. This was a short ride (or manageable walk) from the Kyoto station. There was also a closer local railway station that we used to visit many of the attractions in the city (which are spread apart so this location worked well for us). 5. The staff. Loved the kindness, attentiveness and helpfulness of the staff, especially the chef, his wife and the people at the front desk. Bottom line: Muromachi Yutone offers much more than a place to stay in historic Kyoto -- it offers a restorative experience in an intimate setting. If you are looking for exceptional chef-made food and a hospitable and peaceful retreat in Kyoto, this ryokan is a gem.

- davidrM4979HX (10/5): Lovely place - A lovely traditional Japanese accommodation option that really feels like a home, very quiet and quaint with impeccable and very friendly service. The inner court garden is a small oasis and has a small reading room where you can sit comfortably while enjoying the garden or a book. Food is traditional Japanese and very good with an intimate setting for both dinner and breakfast. A big plus for the traditional robes you can borrow or buy during your stay. Rooms are clean and spacious with a traditional Japanese bath and design. I’d love to come back. The only down side is that the location is a bit of a walk from most places or a short taxi ride. It’s also a very quiet place with paper thin walls, so don’t bring any rowdy kids.

We had 3 rooms booked between friends and we were blown away by the level of service and the beautiful gardens. The rooms were exceptionally clean with lovely little snacks, amenities, and hand-warmers (thank god!). Best of all were the "wet rooms" in each room with a huge soaking tub - I am still thinking about it! Thanks again!

Can’t wait visit and eat here again! - While we had a great time and were happy with all hotels throughout our travels in Japan, this place stands out from the rest. Extremely clean, beautiful space, lovely staff, comfortable beds and amenities and exquisite food was provided (breakfast + dinner). Special thanks for the water, apple juice and beer in the mini fridge upon our arrival as well as the variety of teas and treats. It was so thoughtful. We couldn’t believe that staff was walking in and around the kitchen in socks, it was immaculate, we haven’t seen this level of perfection anywhere else. The ryokan is tucked away from the busy streets, which we preferred, yet, it was very close to transportation hubs and sightseeing interest. I’d love to come back here again and highly recommend it. Everything was perfect!

You could truly feel the chef’s passion and dedication in every dish, as well as the attentiveness and grace of the lady who served us. - erickV3584LW (10/5): 5/5. Worth treating yourself. - Location: Located closer to the more modern portion of Kyoto than the historic portion. It requires a bit of a trek to some tourist spots compared to its sister location, which at the time of booking was a bit more expensive. Bedroom: Booked Ruri, which had plenty of space. Located on the 2nd floor and facing the street which was quiet despite road work and a small playground next door. Well appointed room. We had everything we needed—and more—for a 3 night stay. Bathroom: Modern and plenty of room. Convenient toiletries that help moisturize after soaking in the cedar tub. Shower: No problems with leaking shower! Plenty of room. But, some mold on some cedar planks in the shower room which I think is expected. Pros: Amazing hospitality. No language barrier. We were the only guests on our first night. They were well staffed and kind without being overbearing. There were 9 additional guests on our last night, but the service remained excellent. The staff taught us Japanese phrases, taught us to play games in the common room, and knew our names. We enjoyed 3 dinners and 4 breakfasts with excellent food each meal. We did not find the midnight curfew to be limiting. We did not have noise issues with other guests. Cons: Location was closer to the modern shopping district than the historic part of Kyoto. It’s located between the two areas. Regardless of your itinerary, there will be a fair bit of walking.

Having spent our time in Tokyo and Osaka in more traditional hotels, we wanted to experience something different and Kyokoyado Muromachi Yutone delivered exactly that. It felt different walking down the quaint little street to the entrance in the best possible way. From the garden to the cypress tub to the yukata/kimonos it is an experience all its own. Add on top of that, the kaiseki dinner with some of the best beef I have ever had and I can’t recommend this place more. If you’re looking for a luxurious change of pace with a traditional Japanese feel, this is the place for you.

- FarAway39773948832 (10/5): Beautiful Ryokan with great rooms and service - we stayed here for 3 nights, including beef kaiseki dinner and special japanese kaiseki. the building it self is beautiful and traditional with rispaper walls and tatami mats. the suites are big and spacious with little personal stone gardens. They have Yukatas to try on for casual wear, or to wear for the dinners and breakfasts at the Ryokan which made the experience extra special. the deep wooden tub made of aromatic cedar wood was a godsend after walking around all day, to soak up sore muscels. the staff was incredible. it is very easy to stay here as an english speaker. they are very welcoming and the service is quick. they store your shoes in cabinets by the entrance, and almost as soon as our doir opened they had our shoes ready for us. the food was great, esoacially the beef kaiseki. the breakfasts er traditional and very filling. at thursdays the kitchen is closed at night, so we deeply recommend others to go to this little charming Izakaya near by called Chiri jūri, owned by this very sweet couple. all the food is absolutely amazing and made from scratch, the saké selection is big, and the couple are humorous and welcoming. they speak a little english, and we got by with google translate and pointing for the rest.
