Guest Reviews
- Garry (8/5): - Lovely old hotel, within easy walking distance to Sherwood Forest. Nice bar and 5 star food, the sizzling sweet chilli chicken was fabulous. A nice enjoyable stay, with a really friendly breakfast lady. All good
- Pestean (8/5): Nice !!! Nut could be better!!!! - Nice and cosy! I will suggest to have a reception written and be visible by the customers, because there is nothing to suggest where is the reception. Only pub and restaurant, which make people to be confused. I have parked my car and I was walking around the building searching for reception entrance.
The menu is very poor. I was expecting something more diverse. . In the bathroom, the shampoo, shower gel and conditioner bottles was very very small, like 20ml and I'm not joking. I was by myself which was ok, but if was a family with kids that wouldn't be enough, definitely!
- Tony (10/5): - Friendly welcoming staff, clean comfy room, nice bathroom, great food, amazing pub dog, and well situated for local shops. I wasn't paying attention and booked an evening when karaoke night was on, totally on me but you can absolutely hear it in the guest rooms.
- Ann (8/5): We had a very good stay and would visit again. - The staff were exceedingly obliging. The food was excellent. It was very comfortable. Cute and quirky. Beds very comfortable. The room could have just done with a small dressing table and mirror.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Jeremy (6/5): -
- Angela (10/5): - Always very welcoming , the foid is exceptional . N/a
- Lizzie (3/5): - Room smelt damp and drains smelt
- Dominic (8/5): -
- Claire (7/5): A little gem in the forest. - The staff were the amazing. Especially the manager who checked us in. He carried my bags to my room for me and even offered us a drink.
Everyone super friendly and helpful.
Bathroom was superb.
Drink facilities great. Stairs were a bit tricky if mobility is limited or have heavy bags, but I was assisted with this so wasn't a problem.
- SOHAIL (1/5): Awful please don’t stay here - Nothing it was smelling the staff were very rude and no reception The carpets and bathroom
Smelt
- Selma Leila Ainikki (10/5): - A charming hotel and pub with friendly staff. The family suite was perfect for travelling with young children. Special thanks for accommodating allergies.
- Sean (3/5): -
- Neil (7/5): - Staff very friendly, good humoured and helpful. Food was AMAZING Room was small, had smell of drains, poor decor, poor lighting, very basic furnishings - definitely not a 4 star room
- Samantha (7/5): Comfortable , very good food, excellent location. - Location, age. Television in room not worth having , controller and channel availability very poor.
Light not working for tea and coffee table.
Could only open one window.
Shower hot and cold .
Not a fan of karaoke night.
- Mark (7/5): -
- Paul (4/5): Disappointing stay in a tiny room in a shabby old pub - Friendly staff. Freshly cooked breakfast was very nice. Shabby throughout. Our 'courtyard room' looked out over the courtyard, which is frankly disgusting - rusty old table in middle of rubbish. Some recent redocoration in the room but also paint peeling off walls. Room was listed as having such facilities as as a safe and a wardrobe, but they weren't present. A desk was mentioned - well, there is a board clipped to the wall that can be folded out, but without any chairs in the room this 'desk' cannot be used. Quite incredibly small and the bathroom was particularly tiny; lean forward at the sink and your bum pushes against the wall on the other side.
We couldn't find anything in the whole place that resembled in any way the pictures on the hotel website. (Where were they taken?)
Can't understand how it merits a four-star classification by the AA. That must be years out of date.
- Stuart (9/5): -
- Abbie (4/5): Dated property with basic rooms. Cheap and cheerful. Great location and comfy bed. - Great location. Comfortable bed. We were encouraged to swap rooms from the family room to the 'suite' because there was only 2 of us. We shouldn't have to justify our room choice, we chose it and paid for it and that should be good enough. The 'suite' was a standard king room with dated decor and extremely uneven flooring. No 'extra' amenities, just a coffee machine and kettle. The shower pressure was so poor, you have to hug the wall or hold the head to wash, and it took forever to shampoo my hair as a result. The 'suite' was above the bar so we were subjected to karaoke until 12am. Breakfast looked great but my poached eggs were over cooked. Over all, cheap and cheerful but not somewhere I'd return to. I got a good nights sleep and it was close to Centre Parcs so it was good enough.
- Cregg (10/5): - Staff very friendly, food excellent and room was comfortable. Nothing to add
- Stephanie (4/5): Just about tolerable accommodation in a good location for Sherwood Forest - Great location opposite the church where Robin Hood married Maid Marion. Easily walkable to Sherwood Forest even with kids. In the centre of town with convenience stores and restaurants. The lady who checked us in was friendly and we could come and go as we pleased with a key to the outside door as well as our room. The room wasn’t as clean as I would like (cobwebs in the corners) however the sheets and bathroom looked clean. The bed felt old and springy. Mould spots on the ceiling above the shower which wasn’t very powerful but water was hot. The corridor outside the room smelt damp. Quite noisy at night from neighbouring rooms and road. I was glad we had only booked a couple of nights.
- adams (8/5): - Great convenient location close to centerparcs and sherwood forest.
Lovely cooked breakfast with friendly staff.. More veggie options needed for breakfast please.
- Simon (10/5): - Beautiful location. Really nice rooms. The staff were amazing and very helpful.
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Chloe (7/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Comfortable night at a reasonable price with good evening meal. - We had a large family room which was ideal for our needs. We experienced no problems whilst we were there.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Mary Ann (8/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): A nice hotel. - The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help. It was difficult to get the shower to the right temperature. But it might have been me.
- Ben (10/5): - All very clean friendly staff great stay and great price Na
- Emma (10/5): -
- Simon (10/5): Made us feel genuinely welcome - Entertainment and bar staff
And zorro the beautiful black lab
- Paul (9/5): - Everything was fine and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Help was offered to my wife with her bag which was helpful as the old building has narrow corridors and we'll worn stairs Nothing in particular but it is the first time that we have been asked to pay a supplement for others in the room which I guess I must have overlooked when booking so this needs to be clearer and also the first time in my life, and I am in my seventies, when we have had to preauthorise a credit card in case we damaged or presumably took something from the premises. I thought this a little strange.
- susan (8/5): Comfortable stay . - Great location . Towels and bedding spotless . Friendly staff . Nothing
- Sheila (8/5): -
- BarneyL (7/5): - I didn't have an evening meal, but the breakfast was good and the morning staff were great. My room, although clean was dated and a bit shabby.
- Dominic (9/5): Great Coaching Inn, close to Sherwood - Room is clean and comfortable and has all the equipment you'd expect.
Food is excellent and plentiful as well as reasonably priced.
There's also a resident dog, who keeps you company during your meal. Its like being at home. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Nothing to speak of really. Its an old building so stairs and corridor floorboards creak and its a quirky layout, so expect steep stairs, which with a case may need negotiating.
- Angela (10/5): - The food especially was outstanding ,from a shared platter at lunch , evening meal to breakfast .staff were chatty and friendly . Probably only downside if im nit picking is hearing other people in their rooms ..
- Erin (5/5): -
- Beale (2/5): - The bed was so uncomfortable to much noise upstairs Apart from the bed and toilet
- Lydia (5/5): Accused of theft ... - Being accused of stealing a coat hanger and £15.00 being taken off my bank card without my consent !
I did not steal a coat hanger !
- Debbie (10/5): - Everything. The rooms are lovely and clean and the beds are so comfortable. Beautiful location too. Nothing.
- Gladding (8/5): Comfortable lovely food - Lovely stay
Staff very friendly
Food was beautiful at night
Breakfast very nice also
Would recommend Not as warm as it could have been
- Sarah (9/5): Good location - Lovely comfortable room. Friendly staff. Nice breakfast. Easy parking. Great location for Sherwood Forest. Could do with better quality coffee in the room.
- Fiona (10/5): Perfect getaway.10/10 - Stunning building, friendly staff, lovely room, great food, lovely atmosphere.
- Ian (7/5): - Very close to Centre Parcs where we spent the day at the Spa. Nice little village with other pubs and Chinese very close by Drinks where really expensive. Gin and lemonade was over £8 as lemonade was little bottle.
- Carole (9/5): - The friendly staff The narrow steep stairs
- Geoff (8/5): -
- Leigh (5/5): -
- Lydia (7/5): Being accused of theft is not acceptable - Ideally placed for our needs. Being accused of stealing a coat hanger and being charged £15.00 for it !
I don't like being called a thief and im not recompense the £15.00 I will be taking the matter further. I am appalled.
- Colleen (7/5): I wouldn’t stay again but it was ok for the price - Breakfast was fab ! Room very basic but clean Evening meal disappointing but staff apologetic
Lots of dog poo in the car park , outside areas very untidy
- Claire (9/5): Just a nice place to stay - The food the staff especially the Michael the Chef and Mark on reception.
- Maureen (8/5): Staff very nice - The room was quiet The bed was very squeaky and I thought that we had paid for breakfast within the cost so I felt the cost was high to not include breakfast as other people in our party paid roughly the same amount with breakfast
- Paige (9/5): - Had such a pleasant stay all the staff were lovely, would definitely go back. There was nothing I didn’t like except that he bed was small for two of us but everything else was great
- Jean (9/5): - Breakfast was excellent Perfect position for what weneeded
- Helen (10/5): -
- Simone (9/5): Lovely stay, the staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable. The food was great. W - Great location close to the forest. Beautiful building, felt really homely.
- Eugene (8/5): -
- Diane (8/5): - The staff were very friendly and attentive Nothing
- Susan (8/5): - We booked this accomodation for location, as we were visiting my Mother who is in a nearby nursing home. I grew up in Edwinstowe, but this was the first time that I'd visited Forest Lodge.
A pleasant check in, and we were shown to our room, and shown how to use the heater., which we were glad of, as it was a cold day.We didn't realise until the following day that there was also a heater in the bathroom.
Our room was quite adequate for our nights stay. We didn't eat here, as we had made a prior booking for our evening meal. The restaurant/bar area looked very inviting though.
Despite being close to a busy road, we weren't bothered by any traffic noise.
We'd certainly stay here again for a night, and would recommend it for anyone wanting a base for exploring Edwinstowe and beyond. One of the reasons that I didn't realise that there was a heater in the bathroom was that the cord was quite high up. Likewise, as only being 5ft 1" tall, the mirror in the room was way too high on the wall for me to be able to use it. Luckily I'm quite low maintainance!
I would have mentioned this when checking out, but there was nobody on reception ( or anywhere else that I could see)
- Catherine (4/5): Basic accommodation - Location close to Centre Parcs Uncomfortable bed, bedding & pillows. Breakfast was pretty poor
- Laura (7/5): -
- peter (9/5): - Location right in centre of town Nothing
- Ian (7/5): -
- emma (7/5): -
- Fraser Barrie (10/5): - Everyone was fantastic Nothing everything was great
- Vikki (9/5): - The staff were lovely and the pub was welcoming and heaped in history. A lovely building The bed was a small double. We just about sqeezed in. We booked a small room but didnt realise that was also the size of the bed
- Malcolm (9/5): Visiting family - The location for what we needed to do was excellent, the staff made us very welcome. All good nothing to complain about.
- Rosemarie (5/5): -
- David (8/5): Great hotel, lots of character, friendly staff - Staff were very friendly and helpful No issues
- JOANNE (10/5): -
- Mckie (10/5): Friendly staff who cant do enough to help - Friendly staff, who couldn't do enough to help. Exceptionally comfy room. Really good location. N/A
- Bruce (10/5): - I was there on business, but the added bonus was a proximity to Sherwood forest, a home of Robin Hood. Personal attention from the proprietor, RK, was irreplaceable. That is what makes the place even more special. Old world charm, attending staff, cosy fireplace, beer on tap completes the picture. Highly recommend!
- Debbie (10/5): - Friendly staff. The room was immaculate. Comfy bed and the room was nice and warm. Nothing really.
- Teejay (10/5): Brilliant, best steak I ever had,fab for the money too - The good was amazing, the staff was so friendly they was brilliant with my kids
- Patricia (6/5): Wouldn’t stay here again. - The young man behind bar was very friendly, attendant upbeat. Much better and made up for the cold reception. I was greeted straight away with the need for a security deposit and copies of id. Not the most welcome of introductions.
The hotel was ok but getting to the rooms was not the easiest with a very narrow little staircase, I know it’s an old building but this was not mentioned.
The people in charge were having a loud argument in the hall way when I went down to bar. The bar man had to tell them everyone could hear!
- Giovanni (6/5): -
- Nigel (8/5): -
- Alexandria (7/5): Perfect spot for a quick visit with lots of character. - Location was perfect, close to high street and lots of shops. It was difficult to keep the rooms warm in the evening but the radiators kicked on in the morning.
- Mary (8/5): Excellent stay, nice and relaxed, would definitely stay again. - Staff were all lovely, accommodation was excellent, we were 3 friends meeting up and booked the family suite which had 3 separate, but joining rooms and 2 bathrooms. Very clean, nice bedding, bathrooms spotless. Pub part served good food. Breakfast was very good and offered GF option. Right on the edge of Sherwood Forest so great location too. The only thing was the fan/heater in one of the bathrooms automatically came on/off throughout the night so disturbed sleep in the smaller room.
- Janette (8/5): -
- Hannah (7/5): -
- tye (10/5): Lovely couple or family place to stay - The staff was so friendly from the start asking us what’s we need ans the rooms was so clean with. Lovely bar Nothing
- Karen (7/5): -
- Tina (2/5): Won’t ever stay again , eventually upgraded but still not good, breakfast poor, asked for gluten free diet a week before - Proximity to where we were going Cold, dated , shabby , in need of a refurb
- Ian (8/5): -
- stefan (1/5): -
- Dawn (9/5): Fabulous - Staff friendly, food excellent, clean and comfortable excellent parking facilities
- Ann (7/5): -
- Claire Ginnelly (8/5): - Breakfast lovely
- Emily (7/5): -
- Tina (8/5): Very good - A good cooked breakfast, lots of choice No
- Tomlinson (8/5): -
- Mr Hacche (9/5): - Very comfortable bed, lovely staff great location would definitely return
- Sanderson (7/5): - Lovely old pub, nice comfortable rooms, low beams though! Banged my head only myself to blame though! Wanted to leave our bags whilst we went to a wedding as our room wasn't ready. I wasn't expecting the room to be ready as we were quite early, but we we were offered a free upgrade which was nice only then to be told we had to pay £20 for early check in! We didn't ask or want early check in just somewhere for my wife to get changed, toilet would have sufficed, so to charge us £20 was a bit silly really
- Beverley (10/5): Made to feel very welcome.staff were excellent and it gave us everything we needed - Very cosy Nothing
- Laura (3/5): Room was tidy and clean but not good value for money considering it wasn’t even inside the hotel. £99 for an out buildin - Handy central location, room was clean and tidy The room was in fact an out building in the car park, very noisy with traffic and paper thin walls. I could hear the normal speaking volume conversation of the neighbouring room clearly.
