Guest Reviews
- Savannah (6/5): - Customer Service was really nice, but that's all the good there is about it.
- Jackie (8/5): - Not too many mirrors in the room. Bed and pillows were not too soft.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - For a last minute reservation I was not expecting much, but to my surprise this stay was better than expected. The Inn was clean, the manager was very accommodating and understanding and the room was well maintained for an Inn. Very impressed would recommend.
- E (10/5): - Terrific customer service from front desk -- really appreciate it.
- Alicia (10/5): - i stayed 4nights and still staying here I love it. It’s very clean they also remodeled it’s looks so nice quiet and comfortable I’ll recommend anybody to stay here. Im very satisfied. The people in the front are very nice also
- Peter (8/5): Decent place - Fine place - no frills- but fine
- Josh (8/5): - It was very okay.
People were nice but some weird room design choices.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Clean and comfortable - This property is very comfortable and the family that runs it is very accommodating. My daughter lives in the area and this motel was very convenient for my visits back & forth from her place. Not fancy at all (I would pick someplace else if I were traveling with my husband) but perfect for my solo needs. Clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I enjoyed the nice and friendly service. The room was very clean but lacked a garbage bin in the room. The surrounding neighbors also lodged at the Inn were quiet and respectful. The neighborhood itself was also peaceful at night. There is a refrigerator and a microwave in the room for your use but no coffee maker available, which was fine because Peets is just up the street on Piedmont Ave
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Not clean. Floors had dog poop on them and walls ahd dirty hand marks. Management did nothing to correct this.
- mrcarter510 (10/5): - I wanted a couple days of peace, quiet and relaxation,I got just that staying here. The staff is polite and respectful do have to go far for food or entertainment. What more could you ask for
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Sketchy canceled reservation didn’t stay . Weird smell coming . Didn’t expect much honestly - I wouldn’t have even considered it an option if everything else was not booked ( there was a conference at the time )
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Good people working there. A local later told i shouldnt walk from the Bart to the hotel in the night, dangerous area. Dirty floors
- Ralph W (6/5): Good price, but you get what you pay for - Relatively cheap, given how expensive hotels are in the Bay Area, but you get what you pay for. Overall condition of the room was alright. What annoyed me though, was the checkout time listed online was 12pm, but they kicked us out at 11:30am, claiming that checkout was at 11am. Not sure we would stay here again.
- Sue (8/5): - The room, while spartan and small, was very clean. Bottled water, a microwave and small refrigerator were in the room, which I had not expected. Shampoo packets were provided, but not soap. The sink drained slowly, but the shower was fine. The building exterior was swept and clean. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Total experience was much more than I expected, especially considering the low price. I would definitely stay at the Travel Inn again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- Sven (6/5): - It was close to Bart. But check-in was just ok. The woman kept talking on her cell phone and making me wait, making it a long process. The room didn't look like the pictures. The mattress and chair had stains :( There was a lot of noise, long time residents, drinkers, yelling. There were stains on the door, on light switches. Very unsanitary. I won't be booking again.
- CARLA (6/5): Good and bad - I stayed in a newly renovated room. Bathroom was upgraded, clean and beautiful. Checking in was great and person was very helpful.
Upon leaving the hotel each morning I saw fresh pee on the ground as I walked down the stairs from room 222.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Less than what I excpected - The room did not look anything like the pictures. Way worse. Room 116 tucked away next to the storage closet and below a room with a tweaker couple stomping around all night and day.
Pros:
Comfortable bed
Nice new shower
Nice staff
Close to good restaurants and bars
Well lit parking lot
Cons:
Room smelled bad
Uncomfortable bedding
Gross dirty floors
Walls could use a new coat of fresh paint
Tweaker vibe
Way too expensive for what it has to offer
- Barton (4/5): - Internet on-again/off-again, no desk so computer on bed.
.
- Kevin (8/5): Clean - A
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked that the property was quiet, well-lit at night, much safer than I expected (given that I knew the location in Oakland usually is populated by people who like to hang-out on the streets). I appreciated the level of service and the cleanliness of outside property as well as the room. Originally I was concerned that the event I was attending would end late at night and that the Travel Inn would be dark and without parking spaces upon my return, I was wrong: the place was brightly lighted, inviting, and still had parking spaces within the gates. I also liked that the property has a fence around it, and that an Attendant remains in the office at night near the gate entrance. I plan to return at a later date, and would recommend the Travel Inn to other individuals and families. Thanks for the warm hospitality, and for keeping your property inviting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Ok for short stay - Service was great
Location not very safe
Building very old needs lots of upgrades.
Value is good for the price I got.
- David&Helena (10/5): - The area appeared to be up and coming.
The room was simple but in pristine condition. (Like new)
The hotel operators were very pleasant and accommodating. They took obvious pride in the hotel.
Overall it was a very nice, quiet stay and was conveniently located for our purpose.
We would choose this hotel again.
- Wayne (8/5): - Staff was very friendly & helpful.
- Albert (2/5): Sketchy - The place was remodeled not too long ago, but has sketchy vibes and you can tell people use those rooms for parties or other things than just sleeping.
- Irene (10/5): - The rooms are remodeled with updated features for comfort during travel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were given such a warm and friendly welcome, on arrival and on checking out. Sweety (sorry not sure how to spell her name) is so kind and thoughtful. Thank you!
- Liane (8/5): - We had a fine stay. The staff was super nice and welcoming! The room was newly updated and
- Caleb (8/5): - Stayed two nights enjoyed the location and comfort of the bed. I was weary at first but it ended up being a pleasant stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and quiet. The manager was very friendly and helpful.
- Luis (10/5): Great stay - Stayed in this hotel for a weekend trip to San Francisco. Read the reviews and saw good comments and saw how close it was to San Fran so we decided to give it a try. I must say the area is a bit sketchy since it is in Oakland, but the hotel is gated and had surveillance and bright lights at dark which made us feel safe at night. Staff members are very nice and the owner was open to any questions or needs that we needed. The rooms were clean and the bathrooms were nice. It does get loud when others are outside or doors close from other rooms but that didn’t bother us at all. For the price, this hotel is a good choice.
- Yuval (10/5): Recommend! - Great amazing stuff! Super helpful! Room is great for just a night stay while discovering SF or something in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The room was exactly what I needed. Clean and tidy
- Verified traveler (6/5): - There is no sound isolation. You can hear everything your neighbors do, especially if your room is on the first floor then you are at merci to the people staying above.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this inn. It doesn't look much on the outside but the people running it care and they were very helpful when I was staying in the area. The room is clean and kept clean and the amenities are sufficient for a long stay in Oakland. Also, the inn is walking distance from Piedmont which is a great walkable area for restaurants, stores, etc.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - In & out too quick to do a good review justice. Too tired, slept & left as soon as we awoke.
- Carl (10/5): - Good, very accommodating staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Decent but tv remote didn’t work so to change the channel I had to do it manually
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The family that runs this place is amazing, very very sweet, polite and accommodating. My room was clean. It was quiet. It was the cheapest price for that area and that is what I was looking for. There is definitely some sketchy activity going on around the place. The neighborhood is a bit iffy. For me this was fine, I never felt unsafe, but for a family or someone looking for more amenities, I would probably not recommend. If you are looking for cheap, clean, low-frills and very sweet welcoming owners, this is your place.
- Anthony (10/5): Welcoming stay - For the price it is a pretty good deal. Clean bathroom and towels. Area wasn't too loud had good night sleep for the two nights, will stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This motel was so similar to those in the 1930s and 1940s! The room was quite small, the bathroom had a pedestal sink and the faucet just drizzled cold water. Probably the screen was clogged. There was no coffee maker in the room but there was a fridge and microwave oven. The room was very clean and the personnel were excellent, very obliging to our requests and questions! A good experience for our one night stay!
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The price was $170 plus fees and tax. The bath towels very thin and no soft. No coffee maker, no water no dryer have 2 plastic cups only. The water from the hand sink very slow. It's not professional. I don't believe the reviews anymore. Very disappointed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - No wifi, no hair dryer. Check in was great and the check in person was very helpful and full of great breakfast suggestions.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - the people how work there very nice , but the condition - the rooms , are old and needs improve .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Managers are very nice, and accommodating. The rooms are clean, and well maintained. Thanks for the stay!
- thomas (8/5): Travel Inn - Oakland - My goal was to find a safe, clean hotel after taxes of less than $150/night with easy access to 17th and Broadway in Oakland. The Travel Inn met the requirements.
- Stephen (6/5): - It's fine for a night or 2.
- Verified traveler (4/5): You can do better........ - The room was clean, but the room upstairs must have been a dance studio with the amount of noise they were making. There is no carpet on the floors and I could hear everything - and they were up all night. The second night I finally got up and demanded a different room - which they did provide.
The neighborhood is not one of the better ones in town.
- Warren (6/5): - no morning coffee no place to set things in too or bathroom
- Heikki (6/5): OK budget motel with good location - The Travel Inn in Oakland has a great location close to BART station, where You have a very good cinnection to SF. The staff at Tavel Inn was very nice and helpfull, but the motel itself is old eventhough well kept. Don't expect anything fancy for this price in SF area. Overall OK for budget travelers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The hotel night staff was super friendly! Despite getting in at midnight he greeted me with a smile. Very hospitable, gave me bottled waters.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceeded my expectations. - Friendly welcoming staff, offered bottled water and was very kind. She explained to keep prices fair, they keep the rooms minimal and free cus on cleanliness. I was completely happy. Room was clean, it was quiet. The area may seem a bit rough, but I felt safe.
- Brad (6/5): - Wonderful, helpful staff. Room was small but clean and functional. Neighborhood is ok with walking distance to Summit and Kaiser hospitals and small restaurants. I wouldn't bring my family but will return there on future business trips.
- Dominique (10/5): Nice and comfortable staay - The staff was very friendly and accomodating.
- Roberto (10/5): Great for a quick night! - Awesome service, front desk is great! Room was nice despite the outside seeming sketchy at first. Very nice bathroom
- aushanae (10/5): - My stay was great. The rooms were clean and the front desk was very friendly. I would definitely stay here again
- Marisol (8/5): - I stayed for 5 nights and the people in the front desk and housekeeping were really nice ! I forgot a pillow in the room and I called them to let them know about it and latter my son were to picked it up, was really nice they did that ! I appreciated it for that ! Definitely a Good option to stay in Oakland
- Paul (8/5): - The hotel was fine for 1 night.
- FELIX (8/5): Clean and Comfortable but Lacks some Amenities. - Motel lacked complimentary breakfast or coffee in room. No good restaurants within walking distance and surrounding area was iffy. Motel was very clean and comfortable.
- Holly (10/5): - Fantastic staff! Everyone was very helpful and friendly, offering free water, a discount on our third night, suggestions of what to see in the area, and simple directions to BART.
The hotel is very clean and quiet, the bed was super comfortable, and staff made us glad we'd chosen this hotel. And just a few blocks to BART!
- David (6/5): Some good, some bad, OK stay for the price - Finding a hotel in Berkeley is a pain these days. Needed a room, this place was very reasonably priced. Pros: good price, air-conditioning that really worked, free water bottles in room. Was quiet. Cons: some sort of plastic liner under the bedsheet that crinkled every time you moved. No carpeting in room (my room at least), the entire room was some sort of linoleum/fake hardwood flooring. No bathmat for shower, so had to use one of my bath towels as a floor mat. Not a super great neighborhood. Will stay again in a pinch, but this is a VERY basic motel. The airconditioning was the biggest plus because it was warm that night.
- VALERIE (8/5): A pleasant surprise - An impromptu booking due to a late Amtrak arrival, not much available in my price range. Reviews here weren't as awful as others in the same price range. Pleasantly surprised by the clean, comfortable room despite the dicey exterior and the gate for the parking lot which gave me security concerns. Note to guests: Do ask manager for extra towels, soap, shampoo, etc if you need it. They are very nice and are generous in accommodating requests
- Richard (6/5): - I try to be fair with my remarks and not complain about frivolous things but this time it is necessary. My wife had to clean hair out of the bath before she could use it. The room is very basic and doesn't even have bedside lamps. 1 pillow each and very noisy a/c.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very pleasant and helpful staff person.
- VALERIE (8/5): A pleasant surprise - I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and quality of the Travel Inn. Arriving unexpectly late on Amtrak, I had to scramble to find accommodations late on the Friday of a holiday weekend. At first I was put off by the price, but apparently it is very reasonable in this market. Well located at the edge of Berkley it is convenient to plenty of shops and restaurants. While I don't need luxury, I do need clean and Travel Inn met my expectations in that department. Advice: do ask at check-in for soap/shampoo & towels if you plan to shower. I have come to expect breakfast or at least coffee on site, but Travel Inn's no-frills style doesn't have it. But there is a refrigerator and microwave in the room if you plan ahead to bring what you need to heat up there. The free Wi-Fi worked well updating multiple devices without any problem. I was so impressed that first night that I booked again a few days later an advance of an early AM Amtrak departure.
- Cara (10/5): - I was really surprised by how clean this room was, usually these roadside motels aren’t so tidy, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. I arrived to the motel really late, after midnight, and the clerk was incredibly friendly. I would definitely recommend this place. It’s inexpensive, clean, minimalistic and comfy.
- Linda (2/5): - This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The room had one chair, the beds were hard as a rock with plastic on the box springs and we had to have our pillow slips changed because they were dirty. No blankets on the beds and no towels racks in the bathroom and no where to put anything. We got up in the morning and there were ants in the bathroom and had to have our room changed. They didn't have another room with queen beds so we were given a room with a king bed and two of the smallest pillows I have ever seen. The flat screen tv was the size of a book and sometimes the volume didn't work. No coffee in the room, no hair dryer and they charged if you wanted ice. We complained to the manager and she offered no explanation at all. I would never ever recommend this hotel and you should take it off your web page. It was the worst experience I have ever had.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great budget motel - This budget motel was clean and the staff were extremely kind and accommodating. There are no frills or extra amenities but you get more than you pay for. The neighborhood is not great but it's a short walk to Bart and close to other interesting areas in Oakland and Berkeley. I highly recommend if you're on a budget.
- James (10/5): Best value in the area and it isn't even close. - Nice clean room close to Kaiser. Service at the front desk was exceptional. Thanks again for waking up at 1am to check me in. Will be staying again.
- Roland (4/5): - Water fixture in bathroom Loose & not bolted down. Bed spreads had large spots/stains. TV had very few channels. Floor was dirty, wouldn’t stay there again.
Had to ask for pillows, none in room when we checked in.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice enough room - The room was clean and well mainteined. Even though it was not very close to the downtown area, it felt relatively safe. The staff was nice and accommodating. The biggest area for improvement is the toiletries. They did not provide much except for bars of soap. Overall good experience.
- Dionne (10/5): The Sweetest Motel - The staff are so accommodating, attentive, and sweet. The second time we stayed, we stayed in one of the remodeled rooms. The bathroom was gorgeous!!! It has a nice central location. We always have a great time.
- Sandra (10/5): Definitely recommend! - I was looking for a relatively inexpensive, clean, comfortable motel to spend one night to be near family. My son suggested looking on MacArthur Blvd & after reading reviews I chose Travel Inn. This is a very clean, newly remodeled bathroom, clean comfortable bed, great heater for a chilly night. No frills just a great place to spend the night. It felt safe with a deadbolt on the door. Owners/managers were very pleasant and helpful. It has a clean microwave and small refrigerator. I will stay there again.
- liz (10/5): Overall Lovely hotel! - My boyfriend and I came to Oakland for a concert, and this hotel was just awesome. They are doing some remodeling, but we felt secure and it was quiet at night. It was clean and the staff was very friendly assisting to our needs. I’ve gone to several 5 star hotels and been dissatisfied and disappointed. But this is a 5 star experience to me and definitely would come back. thank you for making this awesome for us!
