Guest Reviews
- G2578WJsallyd (10/5): Wonderful! - I spent the weekend here in the Cabernet suit. What a beautiful spot! Beautifully decorated and thoughtfully appointed. The unit had ample space for 4 guests, great shower, comfortable beds, WiFi, Dstv (for the sports fans in the group) plenty of fluffy towels, the kitchenette had all that we needed and more in terms of appliances, cutlery, crockery etc. Close to many wonderful restaurants and wine farms, gorgeous views and great outdoor seating. All of this made for an altogether wonderful, relaxing weekend away in the wine lands. I look forward to coming back and will happily recommend to all my family and friends! Thank you Andrew and Michelle.
- emtpeep (10/5): Arrive as a strange but leave as a friend! - Wonderful wine, friendly staff and great food. Peaceful and a great place to take a glass and relax and unwind. From the moment we arrived until we toasted our last glass we felt like we were family. Everyone made sure that we had a memorable visit.
- DesertSands_12 (10/5): Peace & quiet. - If you are looking for a tranquil retreat for a few days break away - you would do well to book in at this exclusive self catering French styled guest house. Situated conveniently on the slopes of the Helderberg and close to all attractions in and around the winelands it is easily accessible for day tripping. The large suites are all pure luxury - with beautiful Persian carpets to give that perfect touch of decadence on the floors and the views over the vineyards towards Cape Town are to die for! The well appointed rooms lack nothing and there is ample parking for guest's convenience. Your hosts are friendly and welcoming too - so helpful for that personal touch. This is a destination you should not miss out on for it's unique style and ambiance!
- mariaclaraaleal (10/5): Lovely - The room is so lovely. It’s cozy, beautiful, big and warm. It offers comfort to a family. The owners were really kind with our family. The “room” looks like an apartment because is divided in a living room, a kitchen and 2 separate suites. Really nice!
- f0xyjen (10/5): A REAL TREAT IN A SUPERB SETTING - The Dieu Donne self catering accommodation is 5 star from the moment you drive through the gates! The comfort and attention to detail in the unit is really top class! My husband and I had a really special time staying in the Sauvignon unit. Everything was clean and so comfortable. The view of the mountains and vineyards was beautiful and the peace and tranquillity just what we needed. The location is good as it is off the main R44 road, but it is close to the surrounding wine farms and attractions.
- Benoit (10/5): Lovely place for stay near Stellenbosch wineries - After a few days in Capetown, we wanted to take advantage of the close proximity of the Stellenbosch wine area. We booked rather late, but were lucky to find Dieu Donne Boutique Guest hotel and were very happy with our stay there. We had an excellent two bedroom/two bathroom, self service apartment. The rooms are equipped and well maintained, very comfortable beds and a great attention to details. Both Michelle and Andrew were very welcoming and went the extra mile to ensure a comfortable stay. Great location, only about 10 minute drive from the Stellenbosch center and close to some of the nicest Wine Estates that we have visited (Delaire Graff, Ernie Els, Guardian Peak).
- Louise (10/5): Charming venue close to the heart of Stellenbosch - Very comfortable accommodation with a touch of charm and style
- ErikvanDriel (6/5): Comfortable accommodation - Spacious units and wel presented. Just outside Stellenbosch between the vineyards. Great feelling. Self catering unit. You have to do your own dishes and make your beds yourself. Not part of the service. Rooms are not soundproof - you do hear your neighbours standing up and preparing to leave. As well as the television from upstairs.
- laetitiah60 (10/5): Truly a superior "home away from home", surrounded by vineyards in all 4 winddirections - In April I spent nearly 3 weeks in one of Dieu Donne's selfcatering units, together with my two children visiting from Bangkok. Never before have I experienced the well known saying of "home away from away" being so true !! Whenever we would be out and about, coming back to Dieu Donne, every time felt like coming HOME .
Our unit , Sauvignon, is beautifully appointed with absolutely everything you could need in a selfcatering unit . It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a lovely openplan kitchen/living/dining area./ Linnen and kitchen utensils are of good quality.
Underfloorheating makes for a wonderful comfy stay in winter.
Different than in most hotels or lodges, the good quality tv provided a full bouqet of programs and not the normal resticted few. The tv and remote control were also in surprisingly good condition.
Free wifi of good quality is available in all of the unit.
The outside patio privide stunning and unrestricted views over the surrounding vineyards, all the way to Table Mountain in Cape Town.
The laundry, almost right next to our unit, provides a washing machine, tumbledryer, iron and ironingboard as well as a big basin and all laundry detergents one would need.
Dieu Donne's location, high up towards the mountains in in the middle of the Stellenbosc vineyards, makes it feel miles away from any busy city life. Yet it is almost exactly in the middle between the beautiful towns of Stellenbosch and Somerset-West, about 10 mins from each, about half an hour from Cape Town International Airport and 45 mins from Cape town (obviously depending on the time of day and therefore traffic!!)
Owner, Andrew, is more than willing to help with anything to make your stay better. For example, he provided us with a Weber to have a braai, overlooking the lovely vineyards.
In a few days, my husband and I are going to spend a week there again - surely the best advertisement for any bussiness .
- 428francoisd (10/5): Spoil yourself! - What an excellent location. I loved the interior decoration and the effort that was put into it. It was welcoming and comfortable and it felt luxurious and at the same time relaxing. The best part - it was actually affordable. We only stayed 2 nights, but we will definitely be back. I wished they served breakfast.
- RBonthemove (8/5): Lovely Location and facility - We went to Dieu Donne for over two weeks in February this year along with two friends from the UK. We stayed in one of two self-catering apartments run by Andrew and his wife. The apartments are in an ideal location on the slopes up to the Helderberg Mountains overlooking vineyards and with views of both the mountain to the east and across the plain to the west and Table Mountain in the distance.
The apartments are nicely decorated in a french style and very clean. Andrew is keen to help and ensure that you have a good break whilst you are there. He knows the area and can advise on destinations and eating places. We left with a heavy heart and hope to be back sometime.
- lindacO9629BG (10/5): Perfect Winelands Stay - As they say, Dieu Donne is the perfect place to relax and compose yourself in French Provincial style amongst the vineyards before you venture into Stellenbosch and neighbouring regions for wine tasting and enjoying great meals in spectacular locations.
Remember to return to Dieu Donne for your sunset views and recharge before your dinner date at a local winery in the foothills of the Helderberg mountain range.
- 772kaydee (10/5): Beautiful setting, just as beautiful guesthouse - An elegantly decorated guesthouse for the discerning traveller in an absolutely gorgeous setting. Views of the mountain, vineyards and Cape Town lights at night. Owners Michelle and Andrew very welcoming, respecting privacy yet very accommodating to the needs of their guests. A very quiet, peaceful haven.
- Jax2576 (4/5): Children not welcome here - After booking with booking.com whereby you add the ages of your children, and having read nothing about children not being welcome at Dieu Donne on their site, it came as a shock when we were told at check in that children were not welcome at this establishment because they have dogs and persian rugs. I had read on previous reviews about the warm welcome and the kind hospitality at Dieu Donne but the owners didn't even introduce themselves to us. Nor did they check on us at any point to make sure we if we needed anything. I wouldn't recommend this self catering establishment to anyone with children.
- 1leannel (2/5): Disappointed - Website says "child friendly" bookings.com asks ages of children yet the owner tells guests with children, after they have paid and checked in, that they are not welcome at Dieu Donne as she has Persian carpets!
Never saw the owners for the rest of our 4 day stay, no apology - no welcome basket - no soap in shower - extremely poor hospitality 👎
- 1DedicatedTraveller (10/5): Great food, delicious wine & terrific views. - Lunch at the restaurant was an experience. We had a table by the window over looking the vineyards, the mountains & the valley. Totally breath taking. It was a surreal experience.
The food was sublime. The starters were fried calamari, grilled calamari, charcuterie platter, pork belly, Greek salad, pate & tempura langoustines. The latter were particularly scrumptious.
Most of the group opted for steak & chips. The paella was also tasted as well as the Norwegian salmon. Both were excellent. The salmon was slightly translucent & very moist.
We had a wonderful lunch & it was hard to return to our wine tasting tour. (We skipped the next vineyard as we all needed to nap.)
Overall, an excellent time was had by all.
- Guest (10/5): Tranquil winelands - Dieu Donne guesthouse is a self catering gem in the middle of the winelands of Stellenbosch.
Our host welcomed us with a warm welcome and basket of home baked goodies and essentials to get us started on our first night.
The guesthouse is stylish and homey, providing a great base from where to explore the winelands and surrounds.
Thoroughly enjoyable and must-see. Dieu Donne will see us soon again.
- Pam3212014 (10/5): Stunning location and great hospitality - My son stayed here on a tour of South Africa. He was so impressed, the accommodation was excellent, the hospitality warm and welcoming and the views were breathtaking. Would definitely recommend it and look forward to visiting again.
- RvA65 (10/5): Relaxing stay - Warm and cosy accommodation in the vineyards. Everything about our stay was excellent. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Rooms are beautifully decorated and the kitchenette was more than sufficient for our needs. Close to Stellenbosch and Somerset west. Great restaurants close by
- AndreS106 (10/5): Gem in the vineyards - We had the good fortune of finding Dieu Donne when we urgently required wheelchair accessible accommodation for our injured son. Andrew and Michelle welcomed us and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The tranquil setting in the vineyards with stunning views of Table Mountain and the Helderberg made for a very relaxing 23 day stay. In the evenings we were treated to some of the most amazing sunsets. We were often visited and joined on our walks by their two friendly black labradors who became part of the family. The legendary wine farms are on your doorstep and access to Stellenbosch and Somerset West is conveniently close.
- wilcovandeijl (10/5): Wilco review - I had a lot of fun here. Beautiful scenery and activities to keep you busy for days! RSA is the most beautiful country in the world, with incredible scenery and this establishment helps to capture these elements.
- DesertSands_12 (10/5): Best place to be on the wine route! - I recently stayed at Dieu Donne, Stellenbosch, just off the R44 and situated on the slopes of the Helderberg mountains with unsurpassable views. I am so glad I did! The self catering suites are French Provencale style and well appointed to the highest standards- even with Persian rugs on the floor!. From this venue the visitor has the flexibility to explore the surrounding areas at leisure and the owner Michelle was warm and welcoming. Do yourselves a favour when in Cape Town and book in to this unique guest house for a few days and you won't regret it. They have everything necessary for your comfort down to little extras like small pots of home made strawberry jam in the kithenette. The ambiance is 'feel good' luxury set in the winelands so go and experience it for yourselves at least once in your life. One of the best I've stayed in to date.
