• Mojalefa (1/5): Avoid at all costs! - - This place should not be listed as guest accommodation. The unit is a converted guard room with no privacy, despite the listing claiming otherwise. There was no water at all, making basic hygiene impossible. The toilet/shower door did not close at all and that caused unpleasant odors to spread into the kitchen and living area. The environment was deeply unsettling, we heard constant movements at night that sounded like rats and the unit was full of creepy insects making it impossible to relax or sleep. There is no proper parking, vehicles drive straight past the unit and guests are exposed at all times. After we reported about our concern regarding our safety, we tried several times to get a refund because the place was not suitable and not as advertised. The property refused to give a refund and did not offer any solution.

• Greg (4/5): - Stayed in run down Unit 1. Poor General maintenance, toilet door could not close. Shower very poor with tiny water streams spraying in all directions except down. Unit not a proper room but looks like it was an old converted guard house for access drive way onto the property, so you have no privacy as any vehicles driving onto the property drive right past your front door. Room has no outdoor balcony or sitting area. If you sit outside your door you are on the access drive thru road where everyone enters the property. Access road poor condition, grass not mowed for long time and scraped beneath vehicle and into front grill, recommend you need 4x4 vehicle to drive on rocky access road.

It's the perfect escape from the city hustle—a serene paradise we can't wait to return to.

• Severine10 (1/5): Niet meer verhuurbaar - De locatie, het was proper in de mate van het mogelijke gezien de ouderdom. Het appartement is zeer verouderd, heeft geen isolatie dus de temperatuur binnen is de temperatuur buiten. Er staat een elektrisch vuurtje maar door de afwezigheid van isolatie geraakt de ruimte niet opgewarmd. Het elektrische dekentje in bed was stuk. Bovendien was er geen stromend water uit de douche (de bijgevoede foto van de douche is met de kraan open) en een minimale straal uit de keuken kraan. Wassen en tandenpoetsen was onmogelijk. Wij hadden er een ijskoude nacht, geen douche en ontbijten in zo een koude omgeving hebben we ook niet gedaan. Wakker geworden en meteen weer vertrokken. Het feit dat er faciliteiten beschreven staan die er niet zijn kan je enkel omschrijven als oplichterij. Na contact met de klantenservice geen akkoord te vinden met de eigenaar.

• Khoza (1/5): a “catfish” experience — the property did not match the expectations set by its listin - The only good thing we appreciated the electric blankets Great views The apartment appears to be a former guard house at an entrance that was converted into a residential unit. • The front door faces the main road, meaning all guests entering and exiting the property can see directly into the apartment. • No dedicated parking — other guests had to navigate around our parked car. • The toilet door did not close properly, causing unpleasant odors to spread into the kitchen and living areas. • The shower door did not close securely, and the shower itself did not drain properly, resulting in flooding on the bathroom floor. • The gas heater was not functional, and the apartment was extremely cold. • The fridge had a strong odor of spoiled meat. • Early check-in was denied due to “cleaning,” yet upon arrival: • The bathroom seat had a visible layer of dust. • The shower handles were covered in soap scum. • The kitchen plates had to be rewashed before use. • On the morning of checkout, we were warned we must leave early or risk being charged a half-day rate; however, even 30–60 minutes after the 10 AM checkout time, no one arrived to collect the keys, and we had to leave them behind. • Overall, the experience felt like a “catfish” — the property did not match the expectations set by its listing, and the facilities were poor. • That said, Jessica was very helpful throughout the stay.
• Van (10/5): Exceptional - We had the best time! We were so relaxed and at ease. Our host, Micheal was just awesome!! He didn't mind doing anything for us at all, he definitely made sure we were comfy and settled. He was so kind and shared so much info about the area and what we can do. Our accommodation was exactly what was shown and had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend it to anyone! Thank you again.

Absolutely no value for money - The view of the sunset outside the room The room was untidy, the bedding was dirty with a foul smell full of dead bugs under the sheets. The owner assured us there's WiFi when there wasn't any WiFi in the room hence that TV doesn't even work. No towels provided! 1 small bottle of shampoo and soap provided, meanwhile owner called us while we were on our hike asking for his towels when there weren't even any towels provided! the room was infested with bugs and had no sleep because spiders and flying bugs could wack u in your sleep. Frogs creep in the room under the door as there was an open space under the door. Fyi bring your own doom!! Bathroom door doesn't close u must hold the door while using the toilet! The shower was blocked and overflowing as a result water leaks all the way to the bedroom under the bed. I had to sleep on those little chairs all night had 0 sleep I could'nt wait to leave worst way to spend my NYE
• Heeran (6/5): Good view basic accommodation - The view staying within the Maluti mountain pass is great It was a one night over. If you have the choice ask for room in the main house. We had a frog that crept in overnight and the accommodation seemed quite basic for the price. Our toilet door would not close meaning you had to hold door close while doing your business.

He made sure the heaters were turned on at the accommodation. The place was clean ans comfortably. Close to Clarens village with all the restaurants and activities. Booking.com payment page gave me alot of problems and kept telling the card details was incorrect. I called the number on the Booking.com for the Red Mountain Ranch and the lady helped me immediately and asure me everything is booked and set for our arrival.

The winter blankets were dirty with long blond hairs. The towels and the gown were not clean. The shower in the main bedroom was not working and the bath was dirty and oily. The door handles are too low. The road from the gate was dirt gravel road with stones and we were not even given the heads up to bring high car😔.The couches are deep. The place is not well maintained. The blinds and windows were also dirty and dusty. The carpets in the bedrooms need to be cleaned thoroughly.

Did not see broom or dustbin in bedroom or bathroom, only the toilet.

• Priya (7/5): Good - The ranch was situated in a beautiful setting, and the ranch was neat and clean. We loved seeing the horses, zebras, and ostrich. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The access to fetch and drop the keys was easy with friendly people. We liked the small touches like tea, coffee, and sugar with some anemities in the bathroom. The heating on the beds was a plus with water being lovely and hot for showering or bathing. The pictures of the accommodation were not the latest as it showed furniture that was new. The photos need to be updated to show the condition that it is currently in. The place is clean and neat, but eome windows (main bathroom and outside glass door) were cracked, kitchen cupboard drawers were broken (panels missing in front of the drawers), porches wood were not treated, and found 2 side plates in the stock cupboard as nothing was with the dishes. Some lights did not work. Since it was winter, the heating panels in the rooms did not warm up the rooms, and one single bed did not have heating in the bed like the others did.

He asked us to pay him in cash in some weird parking lot. The place was extremely cold and the heater wasn’t working. It looked like a revamped security outhouse that’s oddly positioned at the main gate. The parking for our car was not safe. We did not feel safe either. No fencing. We paid in full, stayed a night and asked for a refund. We didn’t receive it. We arrived late that’s why we didn’t have a chance to look for alternative accommodation but Becareful when booking the place. Personally, I wouldn’t wish our experience on anyone
• Marco (1/5): Disappointing and expensive - Host (Michael) was great in trying to make us comfortable. The room is advertised as a “Queen Room” at an exorbitant rate. In reality guests will find themselves in a run down, unsafe guard house (DB Board is in the bathroom??) no carpets on the floors and unclean towels. Very disappointing and certainly not value for money! Don’t rent this unit - it is definitely not what it’s advertised to be neither is the rate charged competitive to other guest houses in Clarens.

Appears to be a guardhouse converted. Main electrical distribution board located next to bathroom basin. Towels supplied 1 medium and 1 hand (for 2 adults). Coffee supplied but no sugar and /or milk /creamer. Concrete floor bare with a few rugs here and there. Main entrance gate not automated and very heavy and does not lock.

• Bianca (8/5): We had a wonderful stay the home is a lovely size and every room has a stunning view. You really do relax and unwind at - The view was incredible and Michael was a fantastic host. It was a nice touch to have Robes in each room. the bed in the master was very uncomfortable, the window in the master bath is cracked along with the ceiling. The door on the verandah is also cracked so the home itself needs lots of maintenance. The kitchen was well stocked but didn’t have a can opener in the kitchen and the non stick pan needs replacing.

Has everything you need at your disposal. The bed in master bedroom definitely needs to be replaced as it is extremely uncomfortable. The shattered window in the main en-suite as well as the stacking doors on the patio detract from an otherwise beautiful ambiance. They need to be fixed.

We couldn't even sleep we are waiting for our refund and they are not willing to pay it back We couldn't sleep there the place was like a security guard house, no. Lights, flooring not tiled, towels dirty, showers not what we saw on the internet with mould. The property is in the middle of the road it was like a gurds office its stands alone in the bushes. No security. The person who gave us the key we called him and he said there is nothing he can do he only work with distrubuting the keys. He took time to respond to us concerning our refund cause there was no way we could sleep in that kind of property. We had to force drive back to mpumalanga and come back early hours of the morning again in herrismith. The time he responded we were long gone to mpumalanga strundded without accommodation. Property owners must stop calling me.
• Adele (3/5): Bad experience - Nice view on the mountains. It is remote, no noice and no people around you within 300meters. Information as per advert is not accurate. Very misleading. I cannot speak for the main house on the property, the queen unit is not worth the money. Maintenace is not up to standard. Road to main house runs 2 meters from your front door and you need to park literally 1/2meter from your front door to allow traffic through your parking area to the house below. Photos placed is also misleading in terms of how the ranch looks. Activities not indicated as off site activities is assumed to be on site, but non is existing. No personnel on site. You are totally on your own. Many moons ago, it might have been something, today it is 2 units standing in the veld.

• Manley (10/5): Amazing location and luxury digs—a roomy, and convenient option adjacent to Golden Gate Highlands National Park. - Extraordinary location on the edge of spectacular Golden Gate Highlands National Park in South Africa’s Freestate Provence. Wonderful layout with huge rooms for all, plus a living room with a sweeping view of the surrounding hills. We loved the “neighbors”—assorted ostriches with their chicks. One of the group walked in and announced: “Wow—this is better than my own home!” The host, Michael, was EXTREMELY helpful and nice, waiting for us to arrive and even buying some Milk for us so we would have it for our coffee. The road in is dirt and quite rutted—it would be tough in a low-clearance vehicle, especially at night, and the entry gate could use a light or two for guests arriving after dark.

• Cherene (9/5): What a beautiful stay for family. - 1. The location is excellent for the Mountain View. 2. Very nice to enjoy a quiet & natural holiday. You can see some wild bucks during the day. 3. It’s very nice to see beautiful stars at night without any light around your location. 4. Golden gate national park is nearby, you can go hiking or drive around the park. 5. Clarens is about 20km away, you can enjoy a relaxing time around that town, such as finding a restaurant to treat yourself a German beer, buying a local handcrafted gift or enjoying a 5-star quality dinner at restaurant “treat”, etc. 1. Taps in the kitchen are loose. 2. Due to the cold weather, electric blanket is essential. But not all those electric blankets are working.

The shower towels also had spiders, and the pillows had rat pop. Actually, that place should be called spider Town.. you can see it was not prepared as we had to sweep for ourselves as the mats were so dirty plus the floor didnt even have tile, ceiling was ripped off, we thought more spoders and rats falling from there. The sleeping was horrible as we also saw rats pop by the bed and duvet cover. When we confront Karen our host, she's didn't even have remorse in the morning, all she cared about was to beg me not to post the pics and review them bad here in bookings dot Com, luckily we booked the 2nd night somwhere and initially wanted to extend our stay.. thank God we didn't.

• Pieter (1/5): Bad - Absolutely nothing We booked the queen room not knowing that it was not part of the main house. Never ever make the mistake of booking this excuse for a place. I am 100% sure it is going to be the guardhouse for the future development and that dybasty group decided to make money (rip people of) in the meantime. Bare cement floor, small cheap carpets, two small electric heaters but with broken plugs of little to no use. With only 2 candles for loadshedding and no extra bedding or blankets ee would have had a difficult time botth nights. We did not even for a moment consider staying after wr arrived at 6 the evening and had to start looking for another place with no help from the facility. A person from dynasty phoned but was of absolutely no help. I think this room must be taken of booking.coms website because it really is not fit to stay in especially during wintertime. The facility didn't mention a refund at all but that is actually besides the point. The other disappointment is that they are quite expensive so one expects much better.

• Andre (6/5): Spectacular views, good house which unfortunately isn't maintained anymore (negligence). - Fantastic location with spectaculair views over the mountains. Frequent wild game sightings. No one was present to welcome us: we were lucky that the cleaning lady just left and gave us the key. Dishwasher had been removed without having informed us. Five full garbage bags stood next to the front door for our whole stay. Tap loose. Some windows broken. Could easily attain score 9 with some maintenance.
• Vongani (1/5): Not the experience we had hoped for - The mountain backdrops. Our experience has been different from many. We were not quite happy with the room we got. The room is a repurposed gaurdhouse. The outside of the guard house was never shown on the pictures of the listing. When booking; you get an impression that you are booking in the mian house. But when you get to the property, you get a guard house with the main road to the other property, passing by your doorstep. Wevhad to cut ourvstay short because of this. The roof sheet makes a loud noise when it gets a bit windy. Making it difficult to get a peaceful sleep at night. It gets worse when it is also rainy.
• Maxwell (8/5): Comfort in Clarens - The view was magnificent. Spacious living area and comfortable bedrooms Some emergency contact numbers would have been a good precaution.
• Jilleen (3/5): Won't go back - Location was good although no walks from the farmhouse. No contact regarding keys to the house Misinformation saying there was a generator Dishwasher didn't work and staff only came one day to clean. No clear "contact person"
• Gerda (1/5): Misleading of advertising the unit - The view of the mountains The unit was very dissapointing from photos displayed on the booking. com app. The unit seems like part of the house and a nice view of the mountain from a stoep. Which was not the case. We booked another accomodation inside Clarens from Monday to Wednesday. We were very disappointed with the unit.
