• Jason (10/5): - This hotel is right across the street from the Jackson Street Pier. If you're planning a trip on Lake Erie from this docking area, it doesn't get any closer than Hotel Kilbourne. The room is really small and tidy. There is a bar on the main floor which is convenient. The folks working at this property couldn't have been any more inviting. Great experience for my wife & I.
• Bruce (6/5): Good enough - We checked in early, which was very nice that they let us do that, however its a very very slow manual process that took nearly 15 minutes. The room was ok, however the sink faucet is loose and about to fall off, the toilet paper holder is broken and about to fall off. The internet based tv barely works because the internet is so slow. The place has lots of potential but many things seem like and after thought.

• James (2/5): Thoroughly Disappointed! Inaccurate description!! - The description fails to mention that this “boutique hotel” has a bar below and above the rooms. The entire room smelled like stale beer. It was awful! Ever smelled a recycling bin that had beer cans in it for a while, that’s the smell. The top of the comforter also was very dirty and had long hair all over it. The price point is absolutely absurd! The bar/taco restaurant staff had a shocked look on their faces when I told them I had a room, must not be booked often. Their reviews and ratings online have to be fakes!! DO NOT STAY HERE!

The hotel was clean, the room was a good size with nice amenities. The staff could have been more prompt to acknowledge and greeted us when we were trying to check in, but overall were a pleasant experience.

After leaving the hotel and receiving this $500 bill for their suspicions of smoking in the room which were an ash on the mantle which came from the smoking apparatus after returning to the room and some remnants of what was loaded prior to living the room constitutes smoking in the room and thus allows them to charge you $500 for their claim of smoking in the room! So as the room is clean the service is good and all amenities are mediocre. The room is very small for the price that you pay, and I suppose the overpricing is for the eclectic ambience of the room. So if you are looking for a place that you are not allowed to have smoking material on your person please feel free to stay at this place. I would not recommend it to anyone! They come off as a high-end hotel with a low end experience!

This was the case on Thursday, as well as the weekend. We managed with white noise, but for anyone who needs silence for sleeping, it would be hard to sleep well.

Note to pet owners be very specific when asking about pet fees!!

• pjolds (10/5): Charming hotel in a great location! - The hotel is conveniently located near Jackson Pier and the downtown area, which places it close to many shops, restaurants, and pubs all within walking distance and free, public parking right across the street. It was, however, a little difficult to find. We expected to see a sign on the door identifying the hotel. There is a sign on the building near the roofline, but it is not readily visible from the sidewalk. What you see instead is the logo of the on-site restaurant OhTaco! Once you go through that door, though, you find yourself in the lobby of the Hotel Kilbourne. The lobby is small but charming, manned by a friendly and efficient front desk staff full of information about the area. We booked a city-view king room and found it to be equally as charming and cozy. Besides the plush king-size bed, the room came equipped with an espresso machine, mini fridge, and electric fireplace to provided ambiance. In addition to the usual amenities you expect to find, the room also came with complimentary earplugs. The on-site restaurant, Oh Taco, has a busy bar. There is also a rooftop bar at the hotel and previous reviews said it could get noisy enough to make it hard to sleep. We had no problem with noise during the Friday and Saturday nights that we were the and enjoyed our stay immensely. The next time we visit Sandusky we plan on returning to this location.

We were on the 3rd floor facing the pier for a Wednesday/Thursday stay. The rooftop bar was directly above us. Staff was great and the food was very good. With that said, our room was definitely a 2-person room and the windows did not open. We would stay there again.

• Catherine (8/5): Artsy hotel but just too dark - Hotel Kilbourne is a unique, boutique hotel with just 9 rooms right on the waterfront in Sandusky. It has an eclectic, artsy decor and a cute little bar and restaurant on-site. We didn’t get to try the rooftop bar (it was closed the day we were there) but the other bar/restaurant had a focus on Mexican food and an extensive tequila menu. Our room was billed as a “suite” and was very tiny. With a king-size bed and sofa (and mini fridge) squeezed in it, there was no room for a dresser OR closet. No problem if you were there for a quick trip, but if you were trying to hang up clothes for a longer stay or special occasion, it’s not possible. (The room did have four hangars on a hook.)I know the “industrial vibe” in the current style in hotels, but the super dark walls, floors, curtains, furniture and fixtures were too bleak.

The woman tending bar was rude, unaccomodating, unfriendly & bar was cobwebs, gnats & bees. She used basil instead of mint in my mojito. My husbands drink was undrinkable. We asked for fire features & she refused. Said she was closing early when a large party had just shown up. Paid more attention to her 2 friends at bar than customers.
• Kevin (10/5): - We loved the quaint hotel. The room was a decent size with swanky decor. The view of Lake Erie was beautiful. We did not eat at the taco restaurant there but it was a popular place. We also did not take advantage of the bar on top of the building. The person checking us in was so wonderful and shared places we could eat and talked about the art display in the park. There was music playing past 2 am which required using the earplugs they provided at the bedside table. The bathroom was spacious and modern. The bed was comfy. The checkout process involved dropping the actual key in a box. Super simple. We would stay here again.

Gave excellent suggestions on activities and food choices as well. The hotel restaurant Oh Taco is also very good!! Quick service, great selection of drinks, and even tasty food. We had lunch, dinner, and brunch here and all the food was top notch! The location is perfect as well, with good variety to walk to, plus the ferry picks up and drops off at the pier directly behind the hotel. I had a really great time for my first time in Sandusky and can't wait to rebook and visit again!

O tacos restaurant just inside and rooftop bar facing the bay. Very close to ferry for put in bay and Kelly’s island. There was actually a band playing on the marina the day we were here.

• Verified traveler (8/5): - The Hotel Kilbourne has a great location. It is modern and clean. However, We stayed for two nights, our room was not cleaned and we were not given fresh towels. We were paying over $250 per night, and we chose a hotel instead of an Air B&B, because there is a standard of service and accommodation that you can expect from a hotel. We did not get this. We were not told to expect that our room would not be cleaned (sometimes during Covid this was the case) and we did not have the “do not disturb” sign on the door. When I went down to the lobby the receptionist was pleasant but said that they don’t always clean because they don’t want to disturb the guests. She had to go get me towels, got the wrong type/number of towels, went back to correct her mistake, came back a second time with the correct towels, and then I carried the towels up the elevator to our room. This is unprofessional and it was inconvenient. We liked the hotel but expected better for the price.

• Verified traveler (10/5): A beautiful hotel! - This hotel was amazing. Our room was large with a well stocked mini snack bar with pop, water, some alcoholic beverage options and snacks. The room had a view of the pier that’s right across the street- a great place to go relax by the water. There is a Mexican restaurant on the main level that had great food, and there is also a rooftop-bar, but that was closed when we were there. The hotel is beautifully decorated, very clean and comfortable. The only downfall is the noise level when the restaurant is open. You can hear the music but they provide earplugs by the bed, so that was a nice touch. That was not a deal breaker for us and if we are ever back in the area we will be staying here again! Beautiful property.

By far the fluffiest towels we’ve seen since COVID - thank you, Kilbourne, for spoiling us!! Geoffrey at the front desk was kind, welcoming, and helpful. • T1161XDrobertr (4/5): Little Good, A lot of Bad - So, to begin, let me say that a plus side, the room does look nice. You would think you will have a great stay. HOWEVER…. First off, parking is trash. They have very little parking in the front, side parking and back parking is always full because of the bar. Speaking of the bar, it’s literally right below the bedrooms. Music is playing till 2am, and I mean playing loud. They do however provide ear plugs so that’s sweet of the (Sarcastic Voice) The pictures that you see, some are accurate and some are not. I approached the front desk and he (Some dude with a goatee) confirmed the pictures haven’t been updated. Oh and wait till you look at the cart they have to load your bags…I’m surprised I didn’t get tetanus.😂 Here’s the kicker! I paid full price over $800 for three days through Expedia. I knew what I was paying so that didn’t shock me. What did shock me was that Hotel Kilbourne literally tried to charge me another $800 after I was back home. Then they tried to blame it on Expedia but it shows through Capital One that it definitely was the hotel. Luckily Capital One has my back and is disputing the charges. Moral of this story, pay attention to the 1 stars on these reviews. This place may look nice and even somewhat feel nice when you walk in but I assure you, you’re going to have a very bad experience with this place. Just find a cheap hotel somewhere cause you will more than likely enjoy that than Hotel Kilbourne.

• Robert (6/5): - I’ll get the good out of the way real quick then the bad. The good was that the room does look nice with an electrical fireplace. The “Lake View” is ok but not as exciting as it sounds. The staff was friendly as well and the rooms are very clean. The bad, first I will start off saying that some of the pictures you see on Expedia are not what you get. Like the rainfall showerhead as an example. There is a bar below you the blares music till 2-3am so if you’re looking for a relaxing stay, I would pick somewhere else. They will not tell you about loud music until the day before in an e-mail in fine print to where you can see it but it is there. On the day of, they will tell you when you get there and provide earplugs. No, they will not cancel your room or refund you so you’re stuck in a room where you will not sleep and people getting drunk right below you. Bottom line, if you’re looking to get smashed and go to bed in a fancy looking room, then Hotel Kilmore is right for you. If you’re looking for relaxation, trust me, save that money and go somewhere else. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
• Matthew (6/5): - Squeaky bed, not comfortable! AC was loud, constant humming throughout the night (and it never went into automatic mode, once it reached the desired temperature). There was no phone in the room, to call the front desk, etc…., very inconvenient (I had to walk down to the front desk)! As much as the room cost ($320 ), I expected better accommodations!

• Natalie (10/5): Nice Adult Setting - We choose a room with the city view because we didn’t plan to stay in the room much. There are outdoor restaurants and a bar along the strip. It was fun for a Tuesday night! We didn’t eat at the restaurant inside the hotel but down the street. The bed was comfortable room was nice. We will stay there again. The strip is where to stay if you don’t have under age kids.
