Guest Reviews
- Monica (7/5): Friendly staff , value for money comfortable stay - Good location Onsen a bit small
- Marsel (7/5): -
- Linda (7/5): Great location to access the buses for skiing. - The hotel was clean, the staff were very helpful and pleasant. It was an ideal location for us using the bus. The hotel was very quiet.
The breakfast options were very good but quantity was a bit limited. The osen was clean and welcoming.
This was our first experience of a drying room and it really is a great idea and well organized. We were there for 6 nights and the room was not cleaned during our stay, only a refresh of towels whenever we wanted. The bed was a little hard and the linens a little worn.

- Lowe (9/5): - Breakfast great! Staff wonderful! Beds are mats on the floor, but you can use more mats. Excellent ski storage! Remember to have everything for the day before putting outside shoes on :)
- Robertson (8/5): - Very convenient location. Close to the Happo Bus Terminal with shuttles from the various resorts. Staff was very friendly. They even agreed to drive us to the JR Hakuba station at no cost. The breakfast time is very restricted (7am-8am only). We went end of Feb and I found it to be a bit pricey perhaps because it is still peak skiing season.
- Max (10/5): -
- Sylvia (7/5): Great location and staff at this hotel. - Lovely staff and comfortable traditional Japanese rooms in a great location walking distance to ski lifts and restaurants. It was very expensive however this is likely due to it being peak season.
- Steven (8/5): I enjoyed my time at this hotel - The location is great.
The rooftop onsen.
The staff very friendly and helpful
The complementary water The mattress on the floor
The building needs some maintenance (the Hosonokan sign on the building)
- William (10/5): We would gladly stay at Hosonokan, the staff made our stay an absolute pleasure. - Superb location close to the bus terminal and ski resort shuttles, very central. Lovely staff going above and beyond. Great buffet breakfast mixing western and Japanese foods.
- Nicholas (8/5): - The location is perfect to get to all of the resorts. The Japanese style beds did not come with much padding and the room did not have a working shower - only place to shower was in the onsen.
- Sheridan (9/5): -
- Y Nhi (10/5): A fantastic stay with outstanding staff and an unbeatable location. - Hiro-san was extremely accommodating and the staff were incredibly friendly, easily some of the friendliest we have encountered. The location was unbeatable, just a couple of minutes from the Happo One bus terminal, and the shuttle bus stopped right in front of the accommodation, which made getting around effortless. The onsen was also a wonderful bonus after a long day on the slopes. The facilities were a little older, though everything was still clean, functional, and great value for money

- Sebastian (10/5): This is the number one place to stay when skiing/snowboarding Hakuba Valley. Hari is the man!! 5 stars - Hari is the best host you could ask for. He made our trip seemless and helped whenever possible. The facilities were great and location was perfect. Short distance from happo one and the bus station to go skiing at other resorts in the region. He provided laid back and chill experience that made the time even more enjoyable. Nothing
- Kelvin (8/5): A no frills good value for money residence that serves the purpose. - It’s in a convenient location, overall clean, has all the basic facilities needed for a skiing holiday including a dry room and heating inside the bedroom. Serves the purpose of giving a comfortable accommodation for a ski holiday. It also has an onsen inside the hotel. Very good value for money. It’s a traditional Japanese residence (sleeping on tatami, traditional white neon light lighting, using common slippers as soon as you enter hotel), customers need to be fine with this before booking. Dry room is in basement, need to walk down stairs. No shuttle bus services to/from station or ski slopes. Blankets and mattresses are semi covered, they give the impression that they are old and worn out.
- Hung (9/5): - The location is at the centre of everything. The rooms are spacious. The staff are friendly and helpful. The bathroom is dated. Toilet paper is not good quality.
- vassell (10/5): - Breakfast was amazing and customer service is top service best snowboarding resort ! Everything has been amazing
- Sulaiman (10/5): -
- Vichaya (10/5): -
- Y (10/5): - it is near the Adam lift and near food establishments.
- Wade (8/5): Very good -
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- George (6/5): Pleasant enough, but very expensive for what you get. - It was very quiet, primarily, as far as we could work out, because it was very empty. No noise whatsoever during the night, except when they were clearing snow, when it was impossible to sleep. Onsen also very quiet, I only encountered one other person in a total of about 8 visits. Room was clean and typical of its type. Nice to have the skirental place on site. A nice location. Nice staff. We thought it was hugely overpriced. Our mistake for a serious misjudgement. Breakfast too was very pricey, and, for us, very unappealing on our first morning when we sampled it; we went to the Happo every other morning...so much better and cheaper too. The onsen was ordinary, probably why it was never busy. As a regular visitor to the country and its onsens, I've never previously seen one which doesn't provide at least some amenities, such as cotton buds, hair tonic, razors, etc.. The staff were very pleasant, but close to zero English spoken, which makes things a bit difficult if you can't speak Japanese, as I, regrettably, can't. While this was in no way the fault of the hotel, it's worth noting that, in our week's stay, we were unable to eat in any of the restaurants we would have chosen, and knew from previous visits; everything was booked out, and we weren't even in peak season. Book before you arrive!
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pearson (10/5): Best Japan ski hotel - Great location super easy to walk to Happo One, the bus station, restaurants, etc. Had a dry room to dry out ski boots and enough room in each room to hang up ski jackets. Staff was great, helped answer questions and very nice! The hot spring was perfect for after skiing. If you’re looking for a traditional Japanese style hotel and to have a great home base for skiing this is it.
- Jed (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (8/5): Great experience! - Great location and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. It was pretty cool to experience the traditional Japanese living experience. They had lift tickets & shuttle available for Happo One. I added a couple days onto the back end of a work trip to Tokyo and took public transportation to whole way there and back. The Happo bus terminal was a short walk away and can get you to and from all of the other slopes as well as Nagano.
- James (7/5): Good -
- Kelsey (6/5): Pleasant - Staff were helpful, the location is great for accessing bus lines The room had a bath/shower which we were not allowed to use. We had to use the public onsen on a different floor from our room.
- Williamson (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (8/5): Great staff, Japanese style, and central location makes this a great place. - It was close to the bus stop and to the slopes. You should only visit if your understand a true Japanese hotel.
- Wan (7/5): No frill ryokan - No frill accommodation that is pretty good value for money. Snowboards are hard to use on the racks in the drying room.
- Calum (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amber (10/5): Such a great place! - The staff were absolutely amazing here! Went out of their way to help us and so kind and lovely.
- Lantieri (8/5): Comfortable, welcoming accommodation in a prime location - Great location, walking distance to the ski lifts. The service was excellent, very warm and welcoming.
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jinhyung (9/5): Superb -
- Gabrielle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nanxing (10/5): Exceptional - Good location and spa really relax after ski
- Jonathan (9/5): Great location, we walked to snow field each day in and it took about 6 minutes. Having onsen on property after day of s - Central, onsen, clean, comfortable rooms Pillows
