Guest Reviews
- Julian (4/5): - The stay started off poor. The suite had been unoccupied for a while with the heat setting at "Unoccupied" and set at 52 degrees. The windows in the bedrooms were left open so thiose rooms were even colder. The outside temperature was 18 degrees we we arrived. It took over an hour to get the room temperature up to 68 degrees. Lighting was also dim with many light bulbs out and needing to be replaced.
The unit itself was clean, view and location were great.
It would have been helpful if they were better prepared for our arrival and left some details on the heating system and basic info on the unit.
- Alice (2/5): - They requested us to confirm our check-in one hour prior to our arrival. However, when we were confirming with them, we never got a reply. On their emails, they told us there would be no one at the reception and they would have someone to greet us and show us the property when we arrived. They said the check in time would take up to 1 hour. But that wasn’t the truth. After waiting for 5 hours to get our check in confirmation, and no one got back to us, so we showed up at the property as Expedia customer support recommended. When we arrived, there was someone at the Conceige. The Conceige said the company told her to give me the keys since the morning, and I could go to my unit. The check in was easy but the company made it sound like so difficult. I don’t understand why this company had to lie to us and made our vacation extremely inconvenient. The unit is dirty, the washrooms weren’t washed, and there were hair on the bedsheet from the previous guests. It’s a filthy place. We had the worst experience with the communication, services, and living condition. I highly recommended to avoid this place!
- JImmy (4/5): Don't judge a book by its cover. - In theory this was a perfect location for the conference I was attending in Chicago. The pictures looked amazing, the price was within budget, but the condition and cleanliness were atrocious. On top of that the amount of correspondence was extreme overkill, I had to fill out a 4 page document simply to check-in. So easy of use was the opposite of staying at a hotel. Also have someone clean the place not simply make a bed, the toilets were dirty and their were long black hairs from whomever stay the night before throughout the apartment. Lots of room for improvement.
- Charles (2/5): Worst experience of any hotel booked on Expedia - I use Expedia exclusively for travel, and for their benefit, I hope they remove Pelican Suites from their list of vendors. The property was filthy, TERRIBLE service that never even showed up as it was an apt not hotel, and in working with them they've done nothing nor even replied.
- David (2/5): One of the worst stays I’ve had - The place was absolutely filthy and staff never showed up. Stay away from Pelican Suites.
- Michael (6/5): Check in was less than perfect - Upon arrival I was assigned a suite that was not clean, to the extent that one of the toilets was stopped up, soiled and it permeated throughout the whole apartment.
After a very short wait I was give a 2nd suite that was clean and quite satisfactory upon first inspection, however in the evening I discovered that it was poorly lit, due to most of the bulbs being inoperable, my shower drain was clogged. During the night I became cold and discovered that there were no blankets, strange for a Chicago winter?
The apartment was very nicely furnished and quite satisfactory when the sun was up. It has beautiful views of Chicago, but in the evenings it was dark and difficult to see due to the poorly lit rooms.
On my 2nd day I sent a text-msg to the local manager asking to have these items corrected and I never received a reply. their bad!!!
I think this place has a lot of potential as an alternative to Hotels, but the management of them is not quite up to par with hotel management, so if this is important to you, you may want to opt for a Hotel.
- F M (4/5): Stick with a hotel! - Despite being promised a service call since the TV Hulu connection being down and the bed being broken (mattress supports not connected to the middle of the king bed), no one came. Service was non-existent. Place is super basic.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great location! - Was nervous when first booking, and not a lot of info however once we where there it all made up for that. The apartment was wonderful, furnished perfectly! Plenty of towels, blankets and pillows! Cookware was all there and even the washer/ dryer was in great condition.
Only compliant was the check in process, did not get a key for some time, however the front desk of the apartment was very nice and made us a temporary key.
- Al (6/5): Love the idea, execution was horrible. - We were emailed 3 different numbers to contact an hour before we arrived, and were given very clear, very stern directions to under no circumstances bother the front desk with any questions or requests. None of the numbers we were given worked, we had to call the Pelican company directly. The first woman said she would call me back after she contacted the on-site manager, and never did. The second man who helped me told me to go to the front desk, which was confusing because as I stated previously, we were given direction to not ask the front desk any questions. The front desk did let us into our unit. The unit has great potential, it's a nice space, in a nice location, however, the cleaning was clearly lacking. This place was the ultimate example of "skipping corners". The floor was dirty enough that we had to wear shoes in the apartment, there was dust on all of the tables, and we found hair in our bed and in the shower. We tried to contact the "onsite manager" to learn how to turn the air conditioning down because it was very hot inside, but no one ever returned our phone call. I expected much more for the price we paid.
- Gerald (8/5): - Great loft in South Loop. Only complaint was communication with management company and AC control wasn't working.
- Laura (8/5): Very nice but with room for improvement. - Overall very nice apartment, overall happy with stay with some room for improvement. It was very clean but walls are marked a lot like black marks from brushing up against it with bags etc. Difficult to use AC and TV because AC couldn't be turned off only temperature could be controlled and TV very difficult to use kept saying no wifi connection I emailed customer service email about it with no response. Eventually got Netflix working after a couple of days. It would be nice to have cable TV channels though. Fantastic views amazing we were on 11th floor nice small balcony but would be nice to have chairs out there. Shower water was cold one morning. Otherwise very nice shower with toiletries supplied. Nice gym on 4th floor. No curtains anywhere only blinds so early mornings are a must because when that sun rises the blinds are no good anyway there's no way you could sleep it's too bright! Good kitchen supplies and they left us some dishwasher tablets and washing machine detergent which was much appreciated. Neighbourhood was nice. Supermarket and dunkin donuts 5 mins walk. Lots of restaurants within a minute walk. Front desk security staff very nice and friendly.
- Kent (10/5): Perfect location - amazing condo in a great area!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice, close to museum amd aquarium - Nice apartment. Quiet. No parking included though which adds adds big additional cost if driving into Chicago.
- David and Deb (6/5): This is not a hotel! - Pelican Executive Suites rents appartments for short term stay.
The appartment we rented for 3 days was excellent but the booking process was not.
After our non refundable booking was confirmed by travelocity we began to receive multiple and duplicate texts, emails and phone calls from Pelican. "Please do not bother the concierge of the building". "Send a photo of your ID and credit card or your check in will take longer" (it did 75 mins). There is an extra charge of $150 for cleaning the appartment after you leave and there is an extra surcharge for using a credit card. Our cleaner came in on the wrong day while we still staying. We arrived back after our day's activities to find our bed had been stripped but not remade. So be prepared.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a very nice, comfortable and clean place to stay with your family. I enjoyed my stay. Only down side was that parking was not included.
- Mike (10/5): Close to all the fun in Chicago!! - This apartment was located within minutes of everything we went to Chicago to do. Shopping, nightlife, Bears game, Bulls game, restaurants, parks, and the train stop.
- Liping (10/5): - Great luxury apartment for family vacation, full kitchen with everything available. The only issue is the reservation processing request a copy of ID and credit card via email because the property is owned by private party.
- Jorge (10/5): - We would definitely consider staying here again. Close to the L and grocery store as well as restaurants. It was very convenient to have a full kitchen. Apartment was clean and comfortable.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place, I would recommend it highly. - nice environment, in downtown, extremely convenient. park is not too expensive or hard to find.
