Guest Reviews
- Gian (9/5): - Tutto Le scale ,siamo in un castello noi abbiamo pultroppo 70 anni
Comunque è stato bello
- Marco (9/5): -
- Giorgia (5/5): Staff gentile e disponibile.
- Tommaso (8/5): Come a casa - Posizione ottima. Possibilità di parcheggio nelle vicinanze. Igor top player. Consigliato.
- Cara (10/5): - We had the absolute best stay at Albergo Genio. The location is right in a quad like area with a big sign over the terrace to enter. There are quiet little sitting areas all over the place but my favorite is a overlook into the terrace. There are plants a plenty all over the common spaces and a huge lemon tree on site with the largest lemons you will ever see. No only is this one of the coolest places I have ever stayed ( and I've stayed in some wild places), the owners are so kind and helpful! I highly recommend staying here. It's worth it.
- Joshua (10/5): - The room was nice and clean, the owner was very kind and accommodating, and the location is great! Our stay was lovely. There are some stairs to climb to get to it, but I would certainly recommend it.
- Angelina (6/5): - Posizione Bagno da ristrutturare
- Gianluca (9/5): -
- Ronni (10/5): - Gestore molto cordiale e simpatico Niente
- Willis (9/5): - Great staff. Family run place with real character and hospitality right in the middle of Porto Venere. Rooms were clean and comfortable in a very unique setting. It was all great

Igor simpatico e gentile
- Anthony (8/5): - Great location. Friendly staff. Mattress was a bit hard.

- Edoardo (10/5): - Tutto perfetto personale squisito e massima disponibilità!!
- Arnaudo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Small friendly family run hotel - The family who runs Albergo Genio is kind and warm, and we really enjoyed our stay. The location of this little family run hotel is amazing. We had 3 rooms for our family of 6. one was with a balcony facing the square and harbor, with a wonderful view. Another was a large specious room facing the back, but comfortable. The last was a very small tiny room with two single beds, a small window facing the ally. It was right beside our larger room so worked fine for a group stay.
It’s a nice little simple hotel One room was quite small and basic. But it worked for us as it was just an additional room out of 3 in total
- Lafargue (10/5): Exceptional - Top of the list
- Diana (7/5): Good -
- Svetlana (10/5): Magical !! - This hotel was so perfect for us. It’s right in the center of town and features several outdoor spaces from which to enjoy the most amazing view. We loved it !! The rooms are simple and super clean. Our shower was small with great water pressure . All in all we were thrilled with the experience . Porto Venere and this hotel is dominated by stairs, so if you have troubles getting up and down a few flights. This might not be the place for you.
- Rene (10/5): Exceptional - The location is superb
- Viviane (1/5): I will never stay there again and will urge everyone to stay away from this hotel. - there was no breakfast - the location if OK but too many stairs the lies the owner told us which caused our car to be impounded and the physical aggression we were submitted to by his father and himself which caused us a lot of emotional distress and financial loss.
- Márcio (9/5): Superb -
- Nadia (10/5): Exceptional - Ivan was super nice and welcoming! Despite some temporary issues with hot water, he made everything possible to help and arrange alternative solution.
The location is just unique, with the tower and beautiful terraces.
- Medardo (10/5): 2 thumbs up for Igor - Bel posto Scale
- Amhairgheán (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harm (9/5): Reception was very pleasant, and the accommodation comfortable. Staaf was very friendly and helpful. - Very clean and neat, central and authentic
- Martina (10/5): Wonderful place to explore Conque Terre - The owner is a gem. So helpful all the time.
There are a lot of stairs to get to the room but the view is wonderful.
Parking is a bit away but a secure garage. We didn’t need the car after arrival until we left again
- Eva (7/5): Good - Location was great the room smelled of mold in
- Behnam (8/5): Very good -
- Miguel (10/5): Our 2 night stay was amazing, the host was wonderful and caring. - The location was perfect, it was clean and safe and everything worked well. I loved the property
- Marco (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel was a great experience, sleeping in a "castle".
The views were incredible.
The owner was very friendly and extremely helpful. The beds were hard as a rock, the pillows & sheets were as thin as butter.
- Charlotte (9/5): Superb - Location fantastic! In the heart of Portovenere.Staff friendly and helpful. none
- Tod (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): Everyone was kind and friendly. - The view from the room and terrace and the location was great . You need to be able bodied as there are many steps but the view makes them worthwhile 😊
- Chris (8/5): Very good - Helpful and courteous. Toilet and shower were in the same cubicle.
- Nicholas (9/5): Superb -
- Alice (8/5): Very good - the terrasse arrangement and view + location basically on top of the piazza were amazing and the host so very friendly! the toilet actually. sits in the shower, which is a bit inconvenient.
- Domenick (10/5): The stone walls as part of the property brought the history of Porto Venere to life. - Wonderful views.
Tremendous hospitality. Lots of steps, but part of the charm.
- Marthinus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marigiulia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Deborah (9/5): Great fun to stay at a hotel I had seen from outside on several previous visits to Porto Venere. - No breakfast, but lovely cafés close by. Wonderful old building on several different levels. Beautiful view from terrace in front of our rooms. Helpful staff. The only problem, which could not be helped, was lots of steep stone steps to reach our rooms. But it was worth it.
- Francesco (10/5): Lovely staying, recommended - Big and comfortable room, good bathroom. Great location, in the heart of PV and next to the start of trekking paths. Everything at a nice walk distance. The staff was very kind and helpful; they also allowed me to leave the bags there after the check out for the rest of the day. Quite few steps to reach the room, but is not a downside as the hotel is developed in height and I found it very picturesque. Maybe the thin wall separating the room from the next one, could hear some noise, but didn't bother us at all as the night was quiet and it was only in the morning and for short time
- Alicja (8/5): Very good - Amazing location and unique setup. After finding some problems in the first room it was promptly changed so we ended up in a nice space. A lot of steps were not a problem for us but worth remembering about it before booking. Beautiful part of the world. Good value for money. Rooms are cosy but big enough if you are planning to spend days outside sightseeing and exploring Cinque Terre.
- Regina (8/5): Great location, somewhat dated but with charm. A little pricey for me… - Really lovely all around. Great location. The bathroom was very dated and I found it a bit overpriced.
- Jason (10/5): Exceptional - I love everything, I had made a mistake in my reservation of one day short. They switch us to their apartment for location at a better rate and for longer. Amazing place
- Arcady (8/5): Very good -
- Rainie (8/5): We loved our stay here, the location was perfect and the host went out of their way to be helpful with anything we neede - The location was central for waterfront ristorante and lane way access to the grotto. We were in the room at the very top of the stairs, 89 steps to be exact.
So if you have knee or hip problems this is not ideal.
- Luca (10/5): THANK YOU - Wow - Thank you to Igor for a great stay! So grateful to experience the magic of PortoVenere ! You cannot beat this location so so magical! It's a small hotel with lots of stairs so not for the faint of heart. But trust me SOOOO worth it!
- Leonardo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Valerio (5/5): Could have been good, bad management didn't make it happend - +Location
Located in the main square of Porto Venere far enough from the crowd of the marina
+Parking
There is 4 parking space, 5 minutes walk from the hotel, available for an extra fee (10€ a day) The Hotel is old and not looked after, I knew what expect booking a 2 star accommodation but unfortunately my review is influenced by my own experience.
I booked a room with sea view that has been given to someone else so they gave me another room with no view at all, claimed by the owner that was a booking.com fault that mistakenly have overbooked the sea view rooms without enough availability.
On top of this, the description clearly state check-in from 2:00pm but once arrived they told me to come back at 3:00 because room wasn't ready, I went there at 3.30 and room was still not ready
-No shower gel provided
-Late check-in
-Furniture and hair dryer very old
-some electric plug faulty not working
-Toilet seat was coming off
-overall cleaning not sufficient
-Shower cabin was too small
-No fridge
- Clifford (9/5): Budget friendly gem the centre of town. - Welcoming and helpful host. Budget friendly, yet in the centre of town. View from widow was amazing. Be prepared for steps, but well worth it. Top cover of the bed needed to be washed.
- Tony (8/5): A great weekend in Portovenere. - Good value, simple accommodation operated by a welcoming family team. A prime location over multiple levels, offering great views of the market square and the harbour. Everything that Porto Venere offers is literally right on the doorstep and the manager makes a great Negroni. As with any central location, there's a level of general street noise coming from restaurants and tourists, along with early morning rubbish and street vacuum-cleaner trucks that keep the town pristine over the summer season. Pack light as there are quite a few stairs and no lift.
- Robert (6/5): Suited our needs for the price - The location is quite quirky situated in what seems to be part of the old city wall. All rooms require ascending a number of steps but the effort will probably seem worth it if you have a room facing the sea (we didn't). However, our room was reasonably priced for the time of year and a small problem with the air conditioning unit was quickly resolved. We are reasonably fit and walked some of the local footpaths which involve some steep climbs and descents. Guests who are more sedentary may find the stairs at the hotel a bit of a challenge. Our room was at the very top and reached by approximately 90 steps. There is no lift.
- Linda (10/5): Lots to see and do especially yacht watching! - The location to the beach, marinas, cafes, bars and restaurants. Quaint and quiet. Loved it! No ice machine so had to ask for ice. No breakfast but the cafes were super close. No elevator.
- Maria (8/5): Very good - Perfect location
- Dan (7/5): Good - Location great great view A lot of stairs
- Olivia (8/5): Air conditioning was great - Air conditioning was great. Room and bathroom were fine. Location was fine. Nothing
- Melanie (7/5): Good - Old building with charm in a very beautiful, central location. Room with sea view is worth it. Definitely fine for a short stay. The setup is very simple and could be modernised. On closer inspection and under the bed, it was unfortunately a bit unclean.
- Gl0betr0tter_ (7/5): nice view - nice view, located on a waterside promenade, friendly staff rooms are getting a bit long in the tooth, narrow stairs, no breakfast available
- Roger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Myrtille (9/5): Warm welcoming, convenient location, beautiful view! - Warm welcoming and very nice location. We got a room with a large balcony and a beautiful view. There was no kettle to make our breakfast tea, but the landlord kindly warmed up some water for us. To enjoy more the balcony and the view from it, it would have been great to have a kettle or a microwave in the room to warm something up to eat or drink seated at the outdoor table.
- Zeljko (4/5): Disappointing -
- Miroslav (5/5): Passable -
- Tomáš (9/5): Superb -
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional - Very beautiful room in a castle overlooking Portovenere harbour. The room itself was basic, clean and comfortable but it's the charm of climbing up through narrow alleyways with spectacular views along the way to the room, superb! A previous review said the owners were cute but that is an understatement, they are truly adorable!! Many, many steps to the room! We had a very heavy case and it was a good workout getting there.
- Conrad (7/5): Good - the location is on a unique historic place no service in the hotel
