• Kaushikdiku (8/5): Value for money, Recommended !! - Very cozy stay, bit dated but very much function big room size, nice bathroom and just opposite to Opera, take public bus (12) from very close street for Mededu, and Kok tobe, so three great attraction are very much reachable from this Hotel. We reached to Hotel middle in the night, and they accommodated us by charging 50% one night charges. Hotel is value for money, Chef at restaurant during breakfast is very much accommodative and arrange something for us as we are strictly vegetarian. overall we enjoyed our stay

• Shift_Abdul_Ghani (10/5): Best accommodation in Almaty - Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it. The superior twin room I stayed in was really spacious, clean and everything is working perfectly. View from the balcony is amazing. Breakfast was excellent with a nice variety. Location is top notch, right in the centre of the city. Good selection of restaurants nearby and also walking distance to the metro. Highly recommended.

Soap and shampoo dispensers weren't filled. Breakfast is ok with limited selections, 7am weekdays and 8am on weekends is a little late if you have early plans.

• Narri_man (2/5): Don’t stay in this hotel… - Dear all, I hate to say this because Almaty is my hometown, but this was the worst experience out of all hotel booking. Not only the room was not tidy and not very clean, but in the morning at 8:30 AM housekeeping lady entered our room despite the do not disturb sign on the door, she didn’t knock but just entered our room while we were sleeping and there was a man working in together with her. After I intervened she left the room apologizing for disturbing us. Approximately in one hour she entered our room again this time with another man behind her. After that we couldn’t sleep anymore we dressed and went down to the reception to complain on the housekeeping and to understand what is going on. Neither the guys at the reception nor their manager and housekeeping service manager could give us any type of logical and proper explanation on what was that and why their housekeeping worker entered our room twice, what they were looking for and what was the purpose of disturbing us. I personally think this hotel should be undergoing a thorough expertise on hotel management and quality of service.

• 359kishorek (10/5): Good Hotel in Almaty - We stayed for 4 days 08/4/till 11/04. The hotel is centrally located next to the opera and walking distance to everywhere, lot of restaurants and the metro station. The highlight was the view to the mountains so beautiful! Hotel staff is very friendly, helpful ( Special thanks for Mr. Iliyas ), top class breakfast. Over all had a great stay. I highly recommend this hotel to others.
• MadanGopalM (10/5): Great views. - An iconic hotel, grand and impressive. Beautiful ambience, great location, top class breakfast spread, high speed WiFi and helpful staff. Though, I arrived one day late to the hotel, the receptionist was kind to provide me room that with an upgrade. The view of snow clad mountains from my balcony was scintillating. I arrived late night, but I could get something to eat, thanks to the intervention of Lady Manager. I also got sumptuous packed breakfast as I left the hotel for a day trip quite early in the morning. The restaurant is pretty good,though a bit over crowded during breakfast. A must stay to enjoy the hospitality of this great country and people.

I asked her what have for dinner and she replied in a rude answer. she did not explain anything about the hotel, only the room number and how to connect to the internet. where is lift?? she did not share . I passed this one has pee stains under the toilet in your room. You should also change your toilet brushes urgently. they are in terrible condition. Now how can I not give you a low score? Hospitaly is really bad. unfourtanetly, i wii not come again.

I forget my wallet at restaurant and they bring back immediately to my room and nothing has been taken. The security is very friendly and very helpful.

• Roman (10/5): Great accommodation choice for Almaty - This is a fantastic hotel - clean, cosy, airy. The room exceeded all my expectations with a well proportioned shower, bed and working area. Add to that competent reception staff, wholesome breakfast and superfast wifi. Highly recommended!

The staff is hot and miss..... some very nice others just don’t seem to care The airport transfer was a great plus and free but they say til 8am on their ad but really they don’t do after 7 am. So u miss breakfast but they make a to go one for you! The room had a great view was a bit run down the bathroom was hideous and a shortage of plugs! But overall the hotel because of location u can overlook a lot! Not too many staff members speak English well.
• LourdesA290 (8/5): Good base for your Almaty Experience - I stayed in this hotel 4 nights and I would agree with most of the reviews, breakfast is very good and I liked the restaurant facilities, it's s shame weather was cold but should be nice to have breakfast outside. The hotel is centrally location to walk around Almaty and you have a lot of restaurants and the metro station, for me the highlight was the view to the mountains and of course, the balcony! =) sooo beautiful! there is a coffee shop next to the lobby which is nice, they just close too early. I stayed in a double room, bed was comfortable for me.. no doubt the room is very small and specially the bathroom, shower. Staff was nice.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Well presented rooms - Easy for taxis to locate. Not much in the area but is a manageable walk to the two cathedrals and main museums. Airport taxis are likely to cost in the region of 4000 to 5000 each way and the journey is 20 to 30 mins depending on traffic. Quick check in, hotel has been made over recently with marble bathrooms, superior rooms are spacious and come with team making although had to unplug things to obtain sockets. Is an over site that the TV can’t be seen from the main beds, but lighting was reasonable, the twin room had a spare third bed, there are cupboards and a desk, couple of chairs, room had two balconies facing onto the theatre out the front as well as a table, bedside cabinets and a clean carpet. Minibar fridge and drinks confusing. Wasn’t sure if the water on the table was charged or not as the size of the water bottles in the fridge didn’t match the charge sheet. Corridor was noisy late into the evening and early in the morning due to the neighbours, one of whom was playing the public piano next to the lifts after midnight, and the minibar knocked on the door in the morning. Otherwise good service, luggage was stored at reception, hotel’s taxi service was reliable, only significant issue was not being able to control the temperature as there were no remotes for the air conditioners.
• Bah881 (8/5): Good hotel in historic building near metro and walking street - Stayed in the hotel for 4 nights in a single room. Room is small and the bathroom is tiny. However, the rooms are renovated and the balcony offers a good view over the Kazakh Theater and mountains (which are sometimes hard to see because of smog). The location is good right in the historic part of the town. The hotel itself is a historic Soviet modernist building completed in 1970s. You can avoid traffic jams by riding metro which is 2 mins away from hotel. Service is average. Breakfast buffet selection is really good, however, I would add more types of cheese and meet. Anyways, good hotel to stay if you like architecture and you want to explore this historic neighbourhood of Almaty.
• Birdlover999 (6/5): 3 star at best - Smallest bathroom I've seen outside of Japan ! Toilet is impossible to sit on as it's so close to the wall. Shower unit was a bit rough and dishevelled, also very small and a terrible design. Bed was a single bed with a "traditional" heavy blanket not a duvet. Very small room in need of a new carpet and a general make over. Cheap and cheerful, great location though !
• Verified traveler (2/5): Shady hotel - I was so dissapointed. I booked a suite with mountain view, and got a shady room in the back. Nothing like photos, old and cold. Only 1 socket worked, in the bathroom used shampoo bottles, dirty towels and long black hair in bed. The only positive point was the restaurant, which was spotless, and food was good. After 1 night we moved to a different hotel, which was perfect.
• THEENTITY (4/5): Cramped and Untidy - So we stayed a night here.. the place is centrally located and it looks decent from outside and has good views from the balcony too.. everything in walking distance however the place is so tiny and the bathroom was so small that I almost did not fit into shower. It was hitting my hands and legs Every time I move...and the bed was walls were untidy with black marks .. all bathroom was. Full of patches and leakages.. The restaurant and food was ok.. nothing to complain about and the staff is the plus point of this hotel specially the guest relation manager Eigerim helped a lot..
• Niklas (8/5): City landmark - All and all this is a great hotel. It got this certain kind of glow that comes with it`s history and the fact that its practically a landmark in Almaty, everyone in town knows about it. The skybar food was great. The resturant on 2nd floor, where brakefast is served duing morning was mediocre at best. I have to mention the skybar once more, the meat there is fabtastic. However the hotel lacks the details that makes a 5-star hotel earn it`s stars. One example is the shower. I stayed in a junior suite and the wall mounted shower nozzle was at a hight about 1.5 meter. So you had to kneel to take a shower. The hose was even shorter. There where also alot of stains on the walls left by someones dirty hands. Although there are some issues in terms of standard I would stay there again if I get the chance to. The location is great and the view is breathtaking
• Senol (8/5): Mountain view - The hotel has a magnificent mountain view. My room was at the back side, but guests can go out of one of the balconies and can make pleasure of the athmosphere. Located also at a very convenient place. My room was not made up during my stay. No water. And my bed was not a queen size as offered on the booking. Overall: location beats all...

• terop314159 (8/5): Oldie but goldie - Would like to give 5 stars actually, since only positive experience with the hotel and the staff. Honestly it is not the fanciest hotel in the city, but certainly comfortable and has a much nicer atmosphere than those polished 5 star hotels. Location is good as well, close to the new pedestrian districts in the city. And you could not have a better view towards the mountains.
• The_Traveling_Expat (8/5): Nice Location but Dated - The hotel is in a nice central location, and if you have a room on an upper floor, then you will have a beautiful view of the mountains. The breakfast buffet was also wonderful with a lot of different choices. In addition, there are several good restaurants and cafes very close to the hotel. My only complaint would be that the walls are quite thin, so it is possible to hear people talking in the hallway and other rooms.

• Verified traveler (6/5): - This hotel is nice on the outside but somewhat tired inside. My disappointments were 1). I was told we could not use the pool without making an appointment to use the facilities and had to pay. This was not made aware of at any point with booking this hotel. 2). There was work/construction at the hotel which was not made aware to us when we checked in and then in our room we had a jack-hammer sound above us. We brought this to the attention of the hotel, only to be told it will finish at 6pm. It continued until 6.30pm when I raised it with the hotel staff again. The noise stopped around 7pm. 3). We had breakfast included in our room rate and were told it was from 7am. We explained we were leaving/checking out at 7am and could we come down sooner for breakfast. The lady said we could come down at 6.45am. When we arrived we were tild that breakfast was not possible. The service by the staff was so unhelpful, to a point of being rude. I asked could we have a breakfast take-away bag or a coffee and was told I would need to pay for coffee. After 20mins of discussion the staff were still unhelpful and breakfast still was not being served. I had explained we were leaving to travel a few hours by car and something to eat would be nice but the staff were not interested. 4).The lifts to the room are very small so awkward with our luggage. I feel that booking through Expedia you are treated differently. If it wasn’t for Expedia we would not have found or stayed in this hotel.
• _penelopesthrill (10/5): Wonderful Downtown Hotel with Magical Views - My second time staying at the Almaty Hotel, and I'll definitely stay there again. Located downtown in walking distance to all the main attractions, the hotel has a great vibe. Best of all are the stunning mountain views, especially from the suites on the upper floors. The breakfast buffet, which was very good last year, is improved, and there's a new coffee shop now on the first floor. The staff is very attentive and welcoming. Most know some English, and will call a colleague with excellent English if necessary. Located right next to the main pedestrian concourse and a subway station, there are excellent coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants all around the hotel. The Almaty opera house is directly across the street, featuring excellent productions at ridiculously cheap prices (by western standards). I'd recommend the suites on the upper floors, which are not expensive. Ask for a suite with a mountain view. There are many fancier and more expensive hotels in Almaty full of expats and the international crowd, but I much prefer the atmosphere of the Almaty Hotel, which has a balanced mix of local Kazakhstanis and international travelers. For me, the decision is easy: When I'm in Almaty, I stay at the Almaty Hotel. The mountain view alone is priceless.

• Timothy (10/5): - My second time staying at the Almaty Hotel, and I'll definitely stay there again. Located downtown in walking distance to all the main attractions, the hotel has a great vibe. Best of all are the stunning mountain views, especially from the suites on the upper floors. The breakfast buffet, which was very good last year, is improved, and there's a new coffee shop now on the first floor. The staff is very attentive and welcoming. Most know some English, and will call a colleague with excellent English if necessary. Located right next to the main pedestrian concourse and a subway station, there are excellent coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants all around the hotel. The Almaty opera house is directly across the street, featuring excellent productions at ridiculously cheap prices (by western standards). • 350maryna (4/5): Incompetence( - I would love to leave a good review, as I had a room with the view of the mountains that just made me fell in love with Almaty. However... The first problem we had was the issue with the airport pick up. As I was in Kazakhstan on a business trip, and we were arriving in Almaty from Astana on an early flight while booking we asked for a pick up from the airport. No one replied. We wrote to them again - no answer. We were writing for the rest of the week - nothing. In the end, we had to ask a receptionist from our hotel in Astana call them. She called them at least 4 times and were still calling when we left. When we arrived, there were two drivers waiting for us - both with the plates that had mistakes on our names. They ended up discussing who will take us to the hotel for about 10 minutes. The receptionists at the hotel didn't even think about apologizing to us, just told us that we "should've called". 2. No one on the reception desk knows anything about the sauna facilities and just told us: "Go and ask them yourself". We actually went - it is located between some storage rooms and the entrance for the cars and looks very post-apocalyptic. And the sauna was closed, so well... 3. And the worst part - when we were checking out, the whole crazy chaos broke loose. They couldn't put the name of our company on the receipt, because "the manager has the access", they couldn't explain to us what were the extra charges on the bill (neither the receptionist, not the waiter knew what they were charging us for). The receptionist was very rude and had a very unpleasant way of speaking like we were just an annoyance and not the paying customers (who kind of provide him with his salary in the grand scheme of things). In the end, I was the one who figured out that the charges were the 10% for service, and again - none of those rude people even thought about apologizing for not being helpful and not knowing what they were charging for. Overall - a very weird experience. As I will have many more business trips to Kazakhstan in the future, I honestly wanted to find a hotel that will be a cute and comfortable place to stay. But in the end, it was all ruined by their staff's incompetence and rudeness.

My own concern as an English speaking tourist was most of the TV was in Russian also the street sighs are in Russian letters and so could not read. If Almaty wants more international visitors needs to be more English language focussed rather than Russian focussed as Englidh is the main international langusge

• Sachiyo (8/5): 表示内容と違った - 予約のところには緑でマウンテンビューと書いてあったのですが、実際はシティービューで部屋の広さも表示と違う広さ（表示では3人までが泊まれる大きな部屋で大きなベッド1つとシングル１つとありましたが、実際は大きなベッドが１つで広さもそこまで大きくなかった） チェックインの時にマウンテンビューの事を言ってみましたが、予約で埋まってると断られた。このホテルは予約内容と違う事もあると思ってあまり期待しないで滞在すると良いでしょう。 枕カバーが軽く加齢臭臭かった。 シャワーはお湯加減の調整がしにくい。 朝ごはんはとても品数豊富で美味しいです。 ロビーに新しくできたカフェのコーヒーもとても美味しかった。
• AlmatyHotel (8/5): - It is central and many restaurants around. One big supermarket is just 6 minutes walk away selling all kind of the food stuff that are needed. You can walk to a few museums, Green Bazzar and Famous parks comfortably. Hotel Staff are friendly and are able to speak English. Good to choose room facing mountain in high floor to get good city view.

• Timothy (10/5): - Lovely hotel right in the middle of downtown Almaty in easy walking distance to all the parks and museums and with stunningly beautiful views of the mountains and the opera house. Very reasonable rates, including a very good, hearty breakfast buffet. Not many people from the U.S. seem to stay here--mostly Kazakhs and Russians, but the staff is very welcoming and helpful. Most speak some English. At the front desk, if you ask something more complicated in English, they will quickly find someone with excellent English to help you. You could stay at one of the more expensive hotels full of ex-pats and people from the U.S., but really, why would you want to do that? Why are you traveling if not to really experience a new country? The area around the Almaty Hotel has a great vibe at night--street musicians, restaurants, and lots of people just strolling around. I'd suggest the larger rooms & suites on the upper floors are best and have the best views (and are not expensive). All the rooms have private balconies. They will arrange to pick you up at the airport if you ask for a very reasonable price (about $12). I'll definitely stay at the Almaty Hotel again when I return next year.

• Dennis (8/5): I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. - The hotel is going through a major remodeling of the upper floors 6,7 and 8. I did have a change to see the work being done. It will make all those rooms very modern with upgrades like more upscale hotels. I liked this hotel for its location in Old Almaty section of town. The buffet breakfast was very tasty with many choices of local cuisine. The hotel staff are first rate and always helpful. I am looking forward to staying there again on a return trip next year.
• Leon T. (6/5): the hotel is under renovation! - the hotel is being renovated and only the 8th floor is open (sic). There is no wifi on the 8th floor. Also there is no front door on the hotel: I dragged my suitcase into a very elegant wedding reception next door before being re-directed. Staff were very pleasant and eager to help if also sometimes panicked (like if you try to order food in the restaurant - sic). The hotel is a 1960 architectural masterpiece and the views from the 8th floor of the Opera House and the mountains are fantastic.
• Verified traveler (2/5): Hotel under construction! - I booked at this hotel only few days prior to arrival. When I arrived I saw the entire hotel under construction it was even hard to enter. They did not accept me due to construction going on and was walked to another hotel - some unheard hotel 10-15 minutes walk from hotel Almaty, which I didn't like at all. I checked availability for next few days at Hotel Almaty it looked available and it was accepting bookings. Its not right and fair to book guest with assumption that you will stay at this hotel when they know well that construction is going on and they just make you stay somewhere else. If I had known I would have preferred my own hotel selection and not selected some old Russian gangster style hotel, dark hotel wallpaper and smelly rooms. Wifi also was not always available
• Amanda (10/5): Good value full service hotel - Nice large room, good varied breakfast, good amenities, friendly English speaking staff. Good internet. Easy walking distance to lots of sights, restaurants, near a supermarket. I was very happy with my stay and would return.
• Sam (8/5): Good - Hotel was good. The rooms are dated, but my room was large and it was comfortable. No complaints.
• Kelvin (8/5): Good value for money - We stayed in one of the newly renovated/updated premier room that had a small living room (sitting area). The room was a perfect size for two. The breakfast quality and selection was decent. The service at the front desk was good. The staff tried to be as helpful as they can. Location wise, it was great, being next to the subway, many restaurants/cafes and shops on the same street. The only minor issue we had was the slightly spotty Wi-Fi when in the room, requiring us to log in to a few WI-FIs to get the best connection. We had little expectation and was pleasantly surprised.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Not worth of this price - Great view from the balcony. No hot water. Carpet was extremely dirty. Food was so so.
• Tom (10/5): Nice older hotel - Although the hotel is clearly older and unrenovated, the rooms and facilities are very nice. We got upgraded for free to a three-room suite, which was larger than some apartments I've lived in. Check-in staff were nice and spoke good English, though they got a little overloaded at peak times.
