Guest Reviews
- iveth (10/5): - Gracias
- J9215KZcarlaa (4/5): Please read the reviews carefully before booking - This place is overpriced for what you get. I do not recommend it. The place is all run down and needs renovations before it starts falling apart. Reading the previous reviews it looks like it’s been in renovations for a while. The pictures online are not the same as being here in person. We got there at noon and the room was ready. Check in time is at 3. If we wanted the room earlier we had to pay $10 more an hour. They couldn’t give me the room that was clean and available early because of corporate policy. I’ve been to other hotels and they try to accommodate you. The bathroom tile broken in the shower and the floor. The floor tile throughout the room was broken. This place looks like it wasn’t maintained throughout the years and now it is just falling apart. I should have read the reviews carefully before booking here. However, the food and service have been good so far. The kids loved being in the pool and at the beach.
- Ana (10/5): - My family was happy and confidant
- Carolina (6/5): - first of the price for what they offer and announce themselves not work it!! so i picked this place because i was looking for a spa like place, the lady that did the spa was off, so didn’t get my spa, staff dinning and all beverages done by 9pm what kind of resort is this. the rooms not as clean and the bathroom has a plumbing issue, my waiter was amazing!!!
- vrey_91 (6/5): Beautiful beach, decent hotel - I wanted to really love this hotel, but unfortunately I didn't. The room is incredibly small so I'm glad I was by myself. However the room has an automatic room refresher which I did not like so I put a plastic bag over it. There were only 2 outlets in the bathroom and only 1 worked. The walls are so thin you might as well sleep in your neighbors room with them. When you go sit down for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner good luck getting any help. I sat around for 40 mins before I even got a menu. There was no one around to even ask for help. I did like that there are two pools. One is huge and closest to the parking lot. That was my favorite one. The beach out front is beautiful and quiet and they have lounge chairs and recliners. The menu at their only restaurant has a good amount of food options. Except no pupusas. .what a bummer. There was no hot water in the room. Very bad water pressure and the shower had sand from the previous guest. The key to the room has a giant wooden block attached to it with your room number on it so make sure you have big pockets.
- Marina (4/5): - There’s no drinking water. All the water that comes out of sinks to brush your teeth is salty! The shower is also salty … you need bottle water even to wash your hands.
The pool has green moist (dirt) stuck in it, very slippery and disgusting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family trip - We had a great stay!
- Eric (2/5): - The pictures are completely way different than what the property looks like. I would not recommend this place to nobody. I am not satisfied. The only reason I stayed is because I don’t know El Salvador. I want my money back.
- Nestor (2/5): - No water to take a shower, very expensive for what the hotel is, limited menu, somewhat dirty the pool
- Jose (10/5): - It’s a lovely place to stay and relax with multiple pools, a beach front, many food options, free breakfast, and delicious dinner options at cost but worth it nonetheless. I’d highly recommend it for couples, families, friends and families. My stay at Izalco hotel & beach resort was the vacation I needed for sure. Clean rooms, amenities and an overall friendly and welcoming staff makes this place worth it and I recommend anyone looking for a great place to stay in El Salvador, this is it. Oh and it’s under 40 mins. From the airport which made things even more convenient for when we had to fly back home.
- Sarita (4/5): - The property is big however it is unkept. The entrance seems abandoned. The receptionist was unfriendly and despite we asked for consideration to access our room half hour before since we got off a long night flight she refused and delivered the keys to us 15 minutes after check in. Let me say that we left the property at 5am. I must say that the waiters had excellent customer service and saved the experience here.
- MusicAndTravel18 (8/5): I love this place. - This place is ON, not near the beach like other resorts.
Really great staff and great food and drinks. Nothing fancy, but still delicious. Cheap for me from the USA.
They offer an inexpensive massage in a private area near the beach waves. It was awesome.
Some of the original rooms near the front are older and are in need of an upgrade/remodel as you have read with other reviews). Hope they close for a month in the off season to fix/remodel those rooms. They need it.. The only reason why the resort did not get a 5.
Lots of Salvadoran families (many living in the USA or with family living in the USA) stay here to have fun and relax...and for good reason. Great family fun, music is on, but not blaringly loud.
The other resorts near La Libertad? Huge concrete jungles with lots of rooms, making for extra hot, crowded (and noisy) conditions. If you like that sort of thing, don't come to Club Izalco. :-) Alao, If you are looking for A "Cancun" style mega-resort, don't come here.
Plus: the waves are "medium" here. Surfers will of course already know the best places to go near El Tunco and La Libertad for world famous ginormous waves.
Beautiful birds fly freely around the many coconut trees for shade. but don't worry, your table is covered in shade to protect you from falling coconuts and from the mid-day sun. There is lots of shade
Bonus: The campfire in the beach after dark was very cool, relaxing.
More Bonus:, Don't underestimate the comfort of a great hammock. They await you here where you can listen to the waves all day and evening. When I used to come here way back when they were smaller; I paid for my room, but I used to sleep overnight in one of their hammocks closer to the beach. Heavenly! I should have asked them to keep a hammock out for me this time. They probably would have.
- 309jorgem (2/5): No privacy, destroyed - Terrible place, place looks destroyed and dirty. Rooms have minimal to no privacy, even the lobby is in a very bad state. Price is way to high for what is offered. There are places 10x better at this price... Not a good place. Not recommended at all.
- mlore210 (6/5): Maintenance is the key! - Good Customer service Yessica's front desk & Walter's waiter was very friendly and helpful. Food is good, fruit needs to be a little fresher. BUT the hotel is unfinished, the front bathrooms are horrible extreme odors floors undone. The promises are not gated, The beach area is clean, my sheets smell clean!
- saramejia2112 (6/5): Needs maintenance - Great food great service. I would not stay here requires a looooot of maintenance. We spent the day and they have different packages that you can choose from is right in front of the beach and on weeks days get less busy.
Different areas need lots of maintenance from painting to reconstruction and overall making it look pretty.
- Salviexplorer (4/5): Stay away. - Stay away from this place for your own safety.
The premises are not gated.
Unfinished building front.
Good luck finding the front desk.
No security guards. Any one from street or beach can access the parking lot or rooms.
Pool service is horrible. Although the employees do their best but also have other duties more likely
the place is understaffed.
No video cameras on premises.
I stayed in room 3 next to front desk .
I left my Teva sandals on the patio right outside my room and got stolen.
I reported to front desk and all the attendant did was to ask employees if they have seen them. That was it not even an apology.
There is crew that comes and washe the tables on patios, clean pool areas around 6:00 am.
They took my sandals.
At night animals crawl into your room due to a 2 inch gap at the bottom of room door.
The place is inhabited by geckos on the walls and make a lot noise all night. Hard to sleep .
My 2 stars are for the service people that help Us.
They tried to do their best.
Fyi, the owner lives in one of the rooms in the property. For your safety stay away from this pkace
- irenedY889IC (6/5): A lot to improve - The hotel is big and the waiter than help us was very friendly (Daniel) and willing to help, the food was excellent however the place seemed to be unfinished, the restrooms were in very bad conditions. The swimming pools were dirty and there is no security near the beach, people who sell things at the beach entered the hotel and disturb or interrumpt a lot. There is a lot of things that needed maintenance, it s a pity because this experience could have been a lot better
- Clau (6/5): - staffing nice specially waiters. all fine however toilet wasnt working for 1 day IMAGINE THAT. and they removed towels so we had no towels for 2nd night since were not replaced so we reached manager since our battery charger was not on the room and we are sure we left that inside room but even though it means NOTHING the fact that the manager didnt even try to empathize would make this experience from being almost good to be really dissapointed.. not so cool izalco hotel
- Vincenzo (6/5): - The structure needs face lifting. Beach was very dirty
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The staff are great the water in the facility is salty the food is expensive
- Guillermo (8/5): Recomendado!!
- JotaBe1998 (4/5): Run Down - Mix of very good and very bad. Overall typical Central America Hotel. Don’t be fooled by the pics. Room was tiny and bathroom was scary. Window in the shower didn’t close so I had an audience while bathing. Stray cats kept me awake howling at night. Also stray dogs wondering through the restaurant. Very misleading. I don’t know how anyone would give them the raving reviews they have. Obviously must have paid for them.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Despite being almost empty during our stay, we were hosted in the worst rooms (#12 and #13) which are very small, with a messy floor plan and urgently need an update. Would not spend another 80 USD on this kind of motel-like rooms.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I paid for four people. They did not give me four towels I have to argue with the person in Charge call Alexandria. They charge foe children . They don even treat them like peolpe.
- Nereo (2/5): - I liked the service personnel. They are kind and nice.
I did not like management or the bad conditions of the facilities. The room had 2 broken windows. The white chairs were dirty, one seemed to have blood stain. They run salty water in this facility. They don't answer the phone nor they reply the emails. Extremely expensive for the poor service, $177.00 for one night. Expedia said all inclusive, they said not, this was only for the stay. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The water to shower was salty didn't like it.
- Rosario (10/5): - great service, excellent food, and hotel is nice.
- J8986JRkarenf (6/5): Average “resort” - The pictures make the so called “resort” seem upscale and everything, but they must’ve been taken a while ago because the rooms are a bit run down. The location on the beach isn’t the greatest, partly because the beach itself isn’t very nice due to all the trash and dead fish on the sand. The employees are very friendly and helpful even though I had a problem with my reservation showing up simply because I reserved on travelocity. The food is average and so are the alcoholic beverages. Overall the best part of the stay were the pools because they are well maintained and the fact that the air conditioning works very well.
- Beatriz (10/5): - super bien buenas instalaciones excelente servicio .
- Jose (8/5): - Very friendly staff
Rooms bathroom need a at date
Overall okay
- ttopolinaa (10/5): Beautiful grounds and great food! - My boyfriend and I came here for a day to enjoy the beach. We paid $55 total for a day pass allowing us to use one of the Cabanas with hammocks, full access to amenities and $20 credit towards food and drink. The beach was beautiful and the service was great. Would highly recommend!
- KPSmith20 (8/5): Great place to spend the day - HI: We were visiting family in San Salvador and want to spend the day at the Costa del Sol as we had never been there before. We picked this place due to some of the reviews and I have to say most were spot on. We went on a Thursday so the hotel was maybe 15% occupied and only one other family was there for the day. We rented a table for the day which allowed us to use the pools and the beach. It is a good 90 minute drive from San Salvador but only about 30 minutes from the airport. Service and food were both good and the staff were super friendly. As one of the other reviews mentioned, there is nothing else around so if you are looking for nightlife and restaurants the options are slim but if you want to spend a day to relaxing at the beach, this would be a great option.
- Evelyn (8/5): Customer service - Outstanding customer service, if you are looking for a luxurious place to stay. This hotel is not for you, but if you are looking for a comfty, family friendly, quiet chill spot. Izalco Hotel is for you. It was a clean hotel with every basic thing that you need. The beach is right there pool is great nothing fancy but essential. Also, great food and great prices and staff treat you really well.
- chatob2018 (8/5): Great Place and Service - I spent two days. I came late at night and I was please that their service was just as good as during the day. We were hungry and I politely asked if they had any snacks. I was surprise that kitchen was available for anything. It was around 10pm fyi. Our meals were fresh and they set us up close to the beach front,a nice detail. Breakfast was great, service on point. The premises are going thru upgrade but they make sure you get the best room available. They had a bonfire with an open bar for a fee,a good idea. I would recomend this place to my friends visiting from abroad.
- Ruben (10/5): Calidad - Amabilidad
Excelente comida
Precio conveniente
- nixgreen (8/5): Great beach resort! Recently upgraded. - I was told that this resort as recently upgraded so earlier reviews of this hotel may not be as relevant.
My friends and I really enjoyed it as a beach vacation. We visited over the XMas/NY break while it was -13C at home and were thankful to enjoy the beautiful stretch of beach (warm enough to swim, cleaner sand than elsewhere in Costa Del Sol) and two great swimming pools.
We were able to laze away the day on a selection of hammocks, loungers, beach loungers, etc.
The room was compact, neat, excellent AC, and a TV.
NOTE:
- great resort for relaxing but if you're like me need activities, you may get bored after a few days as there's nothing to do other than enjoy the pool, beach, cocktails.
- it's fairly isolated, there aren't really restaurants etc around - but whats on offer at the hotel is enjoyable
- you'll need to brush up on your Spanish. The hotel caters to local tourist which of course is part of its charm
- I'd consider the standard to be an international standard
I would definitely visit again for a couple of nights. It's also very easy to get to from NYC as we had a direct flight and the airport is only a half hour or so away. Makes a good alternative to a long weekend in Miami.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Right on the beach - Great staff and very attentive. Adrian is the best tour guide. Great prices, rooms are fine and clean. Will go back
- En0cG (8/5): Nice safe location. - The resort is a little outdated. As previously mentioned in what seems all other reviews, the staff is super friendly.
Services are limited to the hours of 7am-7pm. You can’t get food after 7pm and there nowhere else nearby to eat unless you want to walk more than half a mile since there is no public transportation or taxis in the area. The menu was very limited. Fish wasn’t available daily and lobster not at all. Not what I expected from a beach front location.
If you go midweek and on a non holiday, expect to have to entire hotel to yourself which at first seems a little unsafe and scary. I was able to see about half a mile in each direction on the beach and find no one else. Surprising for such a populated country to still have beaches this empty.
The entire community is packed with what seems empty vacation homes and the occasional small hotel. From the street they all seem like walled compounds which is the reason why the area is safe. There is no real access to the public. This isn’t a Mahahual type beach full of vendors and the typical hustle and bustle.
The hotel rooms were adequate but not impressive. The bed was a little hard. The pillows ok. Mosquito repellent is a must. Starting from 3pm until late at night prepare to be devoured. The A/C in my room was non stop and didn’t seem to work as well as the ones in my other family’s units.
We did take a nice tour of the mangroves at a rate of $60 per hour. The two hour tour is definitely what you want. Otherwise all you will see is the harbor. Definitely plan on this tour offered by the hotel with a local business and guide, it’s totally worth it.
- Maritza (6/5): Nice to the beach - Very close to the beach but the shower didn't have ANY RUNNING WATER!!! and the toilet wasn't working too well.
The television only had 1 channel working I guess that's the one the owner watches .
Overall i will not go again and would not recommend it for the price they charge NO!
- Verified traveler (2/5): Terrible experience, not recomended - Upon arrival the room was dirty and full of cockroaches. The hotel in general is old and really lacks maintenance. The food is awful. I do not recommend this hotel at all. Really disappointed.
- Gloria (10/5): Muy bien - Muy buenas instalaciones, playa bonita, comida buena
- theegeorge55 (2/5): HORRIBLE - This was a total disaster, The rooms were dirty they took almost two hours to find my reservation at first they said I didn't have one. the rooms were dirty the ac was broken. when I went for a beach walk someone broke into my room and stole my shoes. The beach is dirty. the food is overpriced, it seems like they have no Idea about tourism. They just do not care at all. Do not go there
- Fernando (8/5): - Is a good hotel to stay, but they should add a restaurant with a music performance.
- marco (2/5): Horrific - No room wifi, existing wifi only accessible close to reception, dirty, construction going on, old and run down
- 177germanb (10/5): Great place and good food - Se spent a night with friends having drinks and food. Menu was great, prices between normal, location closed to a main public placer, but their rooms and pools are perfect. Just be carefull about when you are doing check out to double check your bill.
- Mari (10/5): Great Place too bad we didn't sleep here - We found this place online and the price was right so I booked it! We got in very late into El Salvador 10:30pm. So we called Orbitz the night before to let the hotel know, but Orbitz said they couldn't reach anyone at the hotel and left a message for them. I didn't feel very confident about that so I called Orbitz again the day of earlier but the same thing happened - no response. When arrived in El Salvador it almost 11pm my car rental guy tried calling the hotel several times and nothing. He suggested I stay in a hotel close to the airport because it was late and the road to the original hotel was very dark. So we did do that. The next day we went to the original hotel and it was great! They said that they didn't answer their phones after a certain time but that I should've of just shown up and they would've let me in. While we were there it was amazing we were very sorry we had to leave and sorry we hadn't stayed the night.
- sarahsD5005MH (6/5): Hotel has potential - Room - Are nice but I was pretty concerned with the security. The windows could be taken out by hand. The adjoining room door could be opened either way so if someone from the next room wished to enter your room they could by opening that door. There are no gates at the entrance of the hotel which is another security risk. Water from sink and shower is salt water so consider using complimentary bottled water to brush your teeth.
Location - Costa del Sol is a beautiful beach. The hotel is located next to a Turist Center which I know gets pretty packed on high season and could be unsafe.
Amenities - This hotel has 2 pools. The first pool coming in is beautiful its an infinity tool although the infinity part is facing the rooms. The pool is good size, not deep and has a Jacuzzi attached to it. It could benefit of a handrail for older folks to get in pool. The second pool is nice and shaded by palm trees but it looks dirty compared to the first one. Free parking. WiFi only available in front of reception desk and was not really reliable so forget getting some work done.
Food - It's not anything impressive. Food service from 8 am -10 pm. Special mention to Tony he was our waiter and he definitely did an awesome job taking care of us. Certainly made us feel welcome. I hope he gets rewarded for his hard work.
- dia binae (6/5): Nice hotel right on beach! - Not any English speakers but they were very friendly and helpful! Food was GREAT!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice place, WIFI not so nice - i got my room later than the check in hour, like half hour later due to A/C not working (that i fixed by unplug in and re plugin it).
Wifi signal was there but router had "malfunction" and you couldn't connect to it. An the router that was working didn't have enough signal to my room
- Isabel (6/5): Not that good - The hotel was good, the beach was beatiful, however, I would not recommend. When we got there it was ok, but next day in the morning there was a bad odor, later I found out it was coming from the closet, it was rat odor. Somebody got there and cleaned our room (it seemed they were aware about the bad odor) - But still when you opened the closet door it smelled really bad. - It was horrible !
- SandhyaS404 (2/5): Awful !! - We a group of 4 adults and a kid from India stayed here for 1 night and 2 days. Nothing good to write home about. To check into the resort the staff were just searching for our reservation which atlast they seem to have dug out from don't know where after a good 1 hour long search . Though we showed them the reservation on our device they weren't convinced.
Next the rooms were very mediocre with just a bed and an air conditioner which thankfully worked fine.
No water activities on the beach or around the resort .Not a great beach either.Very dirty.Had to just do with the only very basic swimming pool in the resort. No amenities to keep a kid engaged apart from the pool which the kid just got bored of after a while.None of the staff speaks English.Thankfully we had our driver who spoke English and Spanish and translated things to us.
Complementary breakfast was mediocre.
Hugely pricey I would say.$90 a night for nothing is money down the drain. We were rather eager to leave the resort as nothing interested us .And here comes the worst part. The breakfast was supposed to be complimentary which was clearly mentioned in our booking. However at the time of check out the management billed us for 4 morning breakfast at $25 each. After exchange of words for quite a while between the management and our driver finally they agreed to waive of our bill.Never ever returning back to this so called resort.
- Jose (8/5): - Good
- Robert (4/5): May have been nice 20 years ago? - The hotel is old! Very old! The rooms are very dated and run down, first room we were in the shower drain was clogged, we changed rooms and we had very loud neighbors, the tv and voices could be heard through the door that was apparently paper thin, and looked like it had been kicked, you can hear a mouse fart in the next room!
It is on the beach, the food was good, the staff was excellent!
If you are on a budget and don't mind cold showers, and not expecting a 4 star hotel it's worth the money.
- MARCIO (6/5): Sin comentariod - Sin comentarios. Deberian cambiar politica de cancelacion
- robertotE1437LZ (4/5): rooms need to be fix nice. - I was in this hotel in march, pool was very clean, beach need to be clean, be cost looks soo dirty.Food was great!.The is nothing to do on Friday and saturday night..They need to fix the rooms, the bed in my room was broken the bathroom was nasty..They charge me $74 dollars for night and it was to much for the nasty room they gived me.
