- Braden (7/5): - Location is right in town, Lots of nearby restaurants, shops and bars all walking distance. Price was very affordable, bathrooms were super clean and plentiful. bunk was cozy. Room was a bit hot at night and temp could not be adjusted. Not enough clothes hangers for a 4 person room. The parking situation was confusing (no on premises parking and limited free/overnight parking in town). No staff on site and the lobby has limited seating and not very comfortable furniture. There is a weird bar/kitchen that takes up a lot of the lobby space. It would be better if the lobby had more comfortable seating/tables and or tv for lounging since the rooms are really only for sleeping.

- Haynes (9/5): When I am up in the Tahoe area alone, this is a great stay. Either, hiking, biking, or skiing, this is the place to stay - Proximity to the lake , river, and town of Truckee is perfect. It’s not for my wife with bunk beds and shared rooms and the bathroom down the hall.

- Daniel (9/5): Nice bunk for a day or two visit in Truckee, great way to come up from San Francisco on the train. - Great checkin/out automatic number codes, very clean showers, good bunks. Very close to the train station (2 blocks away, just across the tracks!) and all of downtown Truckee, walkable. Staff onsite helpful. Microwave and fridge available were very helpful. If you're on a budget, there's a good gas station convenience store nearby that has all the common microwaveable foods and sandwiches. The common lobby was very cold, had to wear a sweatshirt and winter jacket. This is particularly relevant because the rules of the establishment are that you can't eat in your room. The shower heat was very severely cyclic, every 30 seconds or so it would go ice cold and then warm up again - this is because of the instant heater type they have installed. VERY overpriced.

- Garrett (9/5): Efficient and clean. - extra amenities like heaters, blankets, and pillows were readily available. Everything is self serve with no staff, but pre-arrival instructions and printed instructions on site made everything easy. Bathrooms were communal but exceptionally clean. Beds were surprisingly comfortable and definitely clean.

My only complaint is that the key code pad to get into my room was very fickle. It was hard to use and took too many attempts before it would open. I found that very frustrating, especially after a long day.

My teenager and his friends stayed here recently, and as a parent, I was naturally a bit nervous about them traveling on their own. However, the staff was absolutely incredible from start to finish. They were so communicative and helpful before and during the arrival process, making sure the boys felt safe right away. The property itself was exceptionally clean, modern, and had such a warm, welcoming atmosphere. It’s rare to find a place that balances a fun environment with such professional and attentive service. - Gabino (4/5): - The hostel looked good online, but the reality was less impressive. The bunk I had was the bottom one, nearly at floor level, with no real space to breathe. There was nowhere to air out shoes or gear, so the room quickly filled with that classic backpacker funk — not the kind of memory you want after a long day on the trail. On the positive side, the bed itself was comfortable and clean, showers were decent and the wifi worked fine. But for the price, it felt expensive considering there were no real services or thoughtful touches for pilgrims. Storage was essentially unusable, which made the room feel cramped and impractical. Overall, I’d say this place is fine in a pinch, but for the value, you’re better off upgrading to a proper hotel.

Shared bathrooms ( mostly ) Loud as it’s next to the Union Pacific main line and the doors loosely shut. They do give you a “white noise machine” and earplugs. It is located in town so you can easily get food and do some shopping. Also, parking is on the street and is paid parking between 10am to 6 pm. No AC also.

- larry (4/5): This hotel was half the price of other hotels and - The photos online made the room look cute. The room was on the third floor and there was a very steep climb. I knew that the room would be small but, the room was very small with sloping ceilings. I hit my head getting out of bed and on the ceiling. Im 6ft tall. The bed platform is about 4in off the floor, old mattress, not very comfortable. Basically you have to sweat out of bed, onto your knees and not hit your head on the ceiling. The place is carpeted in what look like carpet samples from the 80’s. I have stayed at hotels with shared bathrooms and I have no problem with that. The problem was I was on the third floor and the bathroom was on the second floor. Getting up in the middle of the night and climbing down a flight of stairs has no fun. I was on a motorcycle and parking is practically nonexistent. Basically. They tell you to find parking were you can.

With the weather and the conditions we’re going to be the same I decided to leave a day early. The property was very clean and unique.
- John (6/5): Not What I Expected, But It Worked Out - The shared bathrooms were very clean and the mattresses were comfortable. That West River House is just a few doors down from the Cornerstone Bakery which was a blessing. The best & most generously-sized croissants we've ever had. In fairness to the West River House, I didn't pick up on that it was more akin to a hostel than a hotel. Perhaps they could have done a better job making that clearer, but when all is said and done, it was clean and comfortable.

- Denise (10/5): - We loved this place. We stayed here with several friends for a disc golf tournament nearby. Loved the rich colors and almost haunted feeling, the low price. The shower heads are tall enough for my 6’9” husband. Check in and out is simple. The beds are comfortable which is most important for us. There’s no shampoo/conditioner so bring your own. Sheets/pillows/blankets/towels are all nice. Perfect for a place to rest without breaking the bank. We will be back!

It was clean and well-maintained. My bed was comfortable. The towels were real and pretty fluffy-not sandpaper-thin. Staff was available with answers even though not on site. Lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. Location was quiet. Would have liked a glass or cup in the bathroom.

Parking can be slightly tricky but it's generally not a problem. There are some trains that go by but also generally not a concern for getting good rest.

It was incredibly stressful trying to secure one of the limited overnight parking spaces, especially on a just weekend. For only this reason, I would not come back.

- Matthew (8/5): Clean and quaint, but overpriced for a hostel-like stay. - I liked the number and cleanliness of the bathrooms. The room with beds was also clean and comfortable. Could have used a chair in the room though. There should be more kitchen utensils and other supplies for eating in the common area. I couldn't find a bottle opener. Also, I think the place was overpriced even though it was a popular week in Feb. It was very much like a hostel stay, only not staffed? And hostels don't cost this much.
