Guest Reviews
- lorraine (10/5): comfy bed - Lovely room with very comfortable bed and great shower. Easy to locate. Great views
- Robbie (2/5): - This was by far one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had!!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed in the Aztec Room. There isn’t much soundproofing between upstairs and the Aztec room, it sounded like a herd of baby elephants until 10pm and from 7am.
Check in was informative and easy with a key box outside the room. Room was clean and well equipped; TV with free view, coffee maker, digital radiator and a good quality shower. Fridge was very small and barely worked however. Good location to explore the Lakes and easily accessible from A66.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Owl Barn Cottage was not what we expected - Best described as a motorway services stay
Overpriced Unsuitable for a dog as abs no space around cottage
Everything cordoned off
No bin liners in bins
Right on the motorway
- Verified traveler (8/5): - All you could ask for; clean comfortable room, polite and friendly staff.
Conveniently situated with easily accessed ample car park.
- Steve (10/5): - Lovely, clean apartment - exactly what we needed.
- Davy (10/5): Great room - Stayed one night. It was handy because it was after 11 pm they have a code lock so no need to see anyone.. Room was very spacious and bed very comfy.. Room had a lot of personal touches so defo be back again
- LDW (2/5): Miss sold by the web site - Web photos are very misleading, with clever use of lighting to enhance them. There is a reason why the web photo of the premises is taken at night with external lighting!
In order to check in, you need to join the que in the cafe and wait to speak to someone.
The premises is right along side the A66 main East/West road which is very busy. Arriving from the West you are required to turn across an extremely busy road. When we commented on the busy road and noise, we were told that there were earplugs provided in the bathroom.
The room on the web looks bright and fresh, when in fact it is dark and smaller than perceived. Room and bathroom were cold on arrival and only warmed up after we had turned the heated radiator and bathroom towel rail and under floor heating on.
The double bed has what appears to be an old mattress on it and if it wasn’t for the fact that there was a mattress topper, the springs can be felt. There is only one dining type chair in the room to sit on, so one of us had to,use the bed to sit on.
There is an excuse for a fridge to keep the milk cool, but it is actually a plastic mini cool box with a fan that constantly whirls away noisily.
We have travelled to many parts of the world, and there is not much Aztec about the room, rather a room full of far too many mismatched items of age, curiosity and colour.
About a week prior to staying here, we paid slightly less for a night in an ancient Hall in its own grounds. We had a large room with a king sized
- Ben (6/5): - Location was not great, it was on the M6, which meant I was awake from 5.30am due to the sound of cars. I had a really bad sleep as you can imagine as a result of the noise. That said, the decor of the room was good quality and I was supported over the phone in finding the accommodation.
- Gaynor (8/5): - Delightfully quirky and absolutely unique. Put a smile on our faces for the whole weekend.
- Heidi (10/5): - Lovely B $ B, Friendly and helpful staff, would stay again 😀
- Jon (10/5): Easy to get to, lovely people, perfect scenery - Super convenient place to visit, just off A66 near a roundabout that can allow you access to all the major roads in Penrith and Cumbria. Lovelly warm cafe with cast iron fire which was great sat by eating breakfast. The staff we very kind and even advised on walks and lent a map to the area!. I would return, it was so quite and beautiful, 10 mins from the lakes. A+++++!
- David (10/5): Worth a visit - Very nice stay with excellent hosts
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice Hotel, clean rooms and good quality of food! I recommend it if you stay close to Penrith
