Guest Reviews
- Robert (10/5): Nice spacious bothy in a cracking location - Central location within town, clean and comfortable Nothing apart from having to leave. We could have quite literally stayed for a while quite comfortably.
- Sarah (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Sally (7/5): - The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well maintained The water didn't drain well in the wet room and it took quite some time to dry the whole floor every morning after we had both had showers.
- Grant (10/5): Best place we have stayed in Scotland - Loved that it was all on one level. It was in walking distance to the village. Lovely area to visit 😊. Quiet and peaceful Nothing that we didn't like.
- Keith (10/5): Perfect location with great local walks. Lots to do and the scenery is breathtaking - Location and quiet 👍 All good
- john (8/5): Spacious, comfy, clean bothy with everything required & very friendly, helpful hosts -
- David (9/5): Good - Clean, comfortable, very comfortable large bed, hand location. Shower - difficult to regulate temperature and poor flow. Also no shower tray, it’s a wet room so the water goes everywhere. Washbasin too small and low to use for a proper wash, only useful for hand washing. Quiet area
- Jacqueline (9/5): Superb -
- Ben (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (10/5): An Excellent Stay in a Wonderful Property - The property was Immaculate and Very Clean and Comfortable.
The Appliances were Excellent All Clean and in Full Working Order.
The King Size Bed was Very Comfortable and I slept Very Well to say I was in a strange bed.
My wife is disabled, so having access to a Wet Room Bathroom was Superb and the Support Rails and Shower Stool were a Big Help for my wife.
The property is a Definite 20 / 20
Thank You to a Wonderful Host 😁🌹🌹🌹 Nothing
Everything Was Perfect.

- Andrena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (9/5): Good location, good property - It was compact but had everything I needed.
- Allan (10/5): Exceptional - Brilliant cottage, spotless and comfortable Location is excellent, less than 5 minutes walk to town centre
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matthias (6/5): Pleasant - Unfortunately, we regret to have to inform you, that there was a strong moldy smell in the accomodation. When back home, we found all our staff smelling awfully as a result. We had to wash even rucksacks etc.
- Gordon (8/5): Very good -
- Emmanuel (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect! Attention in every details that make you feel welcome.
- Siobhan (6/5): Pleasant - The location is great - walking distance from the centre of the village.
It was very clean.
There is good WiFi.
We didn't need it, but it's wheelchair accessible (although not for cooking, so you'd need to eat out or have someone with you). It was very expensive for what it was.
The kitchen is quite poorly equipped. There was no dishwasher, and the rack for putting dishes on after washing them was not fit for purpose - it couldn't hold a plate, for example, and could barely hold a glass. In general, there were two of everything, although 4 plates and 4 small bowls, but no small plates or large bowls. There were two mats for the table - fine, but what about a mat for a bowl of pasta or for a jug of water.
There was a really weird smell from my pillow - worryingly like insecticide.
- Sonja (5/5): Adequate - Comfortable bed and facilities. Needs laundry facilities. There were none available which I would expect for self-catering.
Area around the cottage was very shabby, definitely no garden views.
- Renix (8/5): Very good - Nice little cottage just a few minutes away from the village center.Everything fine and we had a nice stay. Our host was very friendly virtually and in person. Parking is available in front of the main house.quiet location and ideal spot for some daytrips. Just a minor issue there seems to be a floor heating in the bathroom that wasn't working..or we didn't understand to turn it on.no big problem .
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- G (8/5): Very good - the surrounding, the town.
- Dave (6/5): - Garden area very untidy.
Bed mattress way too hard .
Property and furnishings in very good condition and we had a wonderfull time.
- Marina (10/5): As per pictures, everything for a short break, clean and comfortable. - As expected, everything we needed, clean, comfortable and located for us to leave the car. N/A
- Lindy (9/5): Very comfortable and convenient, home from home. - The ease of access for a wheelchair. I was staying with a person who I support as a carer and the facilities for him were great, particularly the wet room shower.
The sofa was amazingly comfy. The hoover was broken. I would have liked to vacuum before we left.
A bit more shelf space in the bathroom would also be handy.
- Annesley (10/5): All good, more than required for my needs. - Everything was good, very clean and close to the centre. I only really slept there and made my breakfast there, but it was great. One improvement maybe, the heat settings are worn off the hob. Get a permanent marker and put some back on.
- Lynne (6/5): A nice little Bothy for a short stay but the bathroom let it down. - Location Because the shower was a wet room the floor didn’t dry, the toilet cistern condensates dripping onto floor. There was under floor heating but it didn’t seem to work therefore the floor never dried which was a pity.
- Lindy (8/5): Really convenient and well set up little cottage with good facilities for disabled travelers. - We loved the wet room and the comfy beds. The location in the centre of the village was great. The kitchen was well stocked and the cottage was just very nice and relaxing to be in. The cooker was a bit complicated. We had to read the manual to operate the oven. The TV didn't work all the time, probably due to the internet connection.
- Colin (10/5): Glenernan, self-contained holiday cottages - Excellent accomodation and ideally situated for all local amenities and travelling around to take in all of the local tourist attractions. Cannot fault the hosts or the accommodation.
- Ashley (6/5): Small, quiet cottage in a convenient location. - The cottage is in a great location in Ballater, just a few minutes’ walk into town.
It was quiet and convenient and met my needs with the advantage of on-site parking available. I always had a good night’s sleep in the comfortable bed. The accommodation is quite small with basic furnishing and facilities. The crockery could perhaps do with topping up, as there were only two of many items. The bathroom is a wet room with a shower (accessible; no bath) which may not suit everyone (tricky to keep the floor dry for using the sink and toilet).
- Maureen (6/5): Glenarnan self catering
Lap - Good location. So many facilities within five minutes walk.
Beautiful and interesting area! While accomodation was warm and comfortable, could have been better equipped in terms of pans and cutlery( e.g. 2 teaspoons only) and no saucepan large enough for pasta.
Owners never came near us or gave us any sort of welcome!
- Kerr (9/5): Superb -
- Angus (8/5): A very comfortable, nicely furnished and convenient base for a visit to beautiful Royal Deeside. - Excellent location within walking distance of beautiful Ballater centre. Nicely furnished, clean and comfortable. Private patio area in the sun. Friendly greeting on our arrival. Just a few minor issues that can be easily sorted: no salt or oil in the kitchen, only some random pepper. Many places include basic condiments but I realise this isn't always provided. Cooker hob numbers had rubbed off so it took a while to work out which way to turn them to heat the hot plates fully. No doormat at patio doors so we kept bringing leaf litter into the living room on our shoes. Couldn't get a plug into one of the sockets in dining area.
- Bell (9/5): Superb - Location
- Bernadette (10/5): Exceptional - It was in a beautiful and quiet location.
The property was perfect for what we needed Nothing. Everything was perfect
- Matthew (10/5): Highly recommended for anyone wanting to stay in the Cairngorms. - Very comfortable bed and great location.
Very well equiped and spotless. Bathroom door sticks.
- Jacqueline (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation had everything we needed and was very comfortable and clean. It was easy to find and the hosts Patrick and Lorraine were lovely.
- Karen (9/5): Fabulous private apartment base for exploring Cairngorms. - We booked this property for two nights. Ballater is a good location if you are exploring the greater Cairngorm area. Most sites are within 60 minutes drive. It was a short walk into town -- we walked around town, purchased local butcher and baker goods, and utilized the kitchen for one of our dinners. The bedroom space is very good. The living area was fabulous - leather couch and television, dining table. Our hosts were great, very responsive to our inquiries. The place was unlocked and the keys were on the counter when we arrived, which was late. Parking was ample. The outside terrace is cute. We highly recommend this property.
- Ian (9/5): Ballater break. - Comfortable and convenient for town and local walks. Not really anything was an issue.Perhaps the only omission was a washing machine which was listed in the visitor's guide but not found in the property.(Not that I particularly needed one on this visit actually!)
- Dedmer (8/5): Very good - Clean, quiet and comfortable cottage.
- Derek (8/5): Good location, quiet - Not applicable
- Margaret (10/5): Overall, the bothy was very welcoming, easy to access and is one of the cleanest holiday homes we have ever been in. - exceptionally clean and spacious. Great location.
would highly recommend. Toilet door was hard to push open from the inside, but a trivial thing to complain about.
Nothing needed but a little adjustment.
- Clark (8/5): Nice enjoyabe stay, lovely town. - Location good, 10 min walk to town centre. Good layout in cottage and adequate facilities. Missed our king size bed!!!!
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. A 5 minute walk into village.
- Schneider (9/5): A comfortable guesthouse with great walking accessibility to my town center and hikes. - Great location easy to find and walking to pubs and restaurants. Many great walks/hike right out the door. Nice to have a grocery store walking distance. Loved having a French press for morning coffee. Lot of local information and guides in our guesthouse. The open/accessible shower was a bit challenging but workable.
- Lyall (8/5): Comfortable Cottage - The cottage was spacious and comfortable with everything we needed. It was really well situated for walking into the centre of Ballater.
- Sharon (10/5): very comfortable stay, good location. - Everything nothing
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Markus (9/5): Great base to discover the many amazing off-road trails around Ballater. Nice host, good facilities -
- Natalya (9/5): Superb -
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leonie (8/5): Very good - bathroom door needs planing
- Karyn (10/5): Perfect location, lovely cottage - The cottage was perfectly proportioned, very clean and comfortable. It was the absolute perfect distance for us, far enough from the village centre to be quiet yet close enough to walk easily to the wonderful shops. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
- Chong (8/5): - Lovely and clean one bedroom cottage where the owners are very accommodating and friendly. All the amenities and accessories were available. We liked the fact that a small laundry machine was there. A few minor issues were: a clogged drain in the kitchen sink, a toilet flushing that needed to be tweaked a bit, and loud caws of a crow early in the morning... ;)
- Karen C. (8/5): Lovely little cottage! - We stayed for 2 weeks in the Bothy, and it was perfect. The place is small, but it had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location is great for lots of outdoor activities, and an easy walk into town for shopping and restaurants.
- Christopher (8/5): Lovely little place - Spacious, friendly hosts, good location. Some of the facilities need fixing - eg DVD player did not work and cooker was tempremental.
