Guest Reviews
- Alex (7/5): Owners were legit, thank goodness. - Bed nice. 100 pound security deposit in small print on booking.com website. Didn’t notice it and Thought it was a scam at first.
Edit: got the deposit back no problem.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Guest (7/5): Super - L'emplacement était central et bien
- Hamish (4/5): - Needed soap and shampoo etc
- Guest (9/5): -
- Sedat (1/5): a trap business that seeks to exploit the disadvantages of foreign tourists for commercial gain - Nothing Neither a hotel which has reception etc. to check in-out and handle your problems, nor a Airbnb facility which a host welcomes you, even more not a dormitory that a manager concerning your stay. If you are an inbound tourist who does not want to be trapped by baseless claim to pocket your safe deposit, simply keep away.
- Tiansi (6/5): Pleasant - The public kitchen was big and nice There was no curtains
- Samantha (1/5): Do not stay here! - Location Do not stay here! This was the worst room I've ever stayed in. It was at the top of the house with the window closed when I arrived on a hot day an no fan. The room was so incredibly hot that I didn't sleep at all for the whole night. Then when I went to have a shower, the temperature control was broken and the water was scalding hot so I had to have a wash over the sink. It was also extortionate because it was graduation day.
- Amelia (3/5): Double booking of the room and poor customer service - The location was close to the train station. After booking the place and checking in online, I didnt receive any instructions on how to access my room. I called the property, received instructions, only to find out someone else was already accommodated in my room.
After a bit of back-and-forth by phone, they moved me to another location, 40mins away by foot, with a 2.4 rating. The new location was unkempt, with old furniture, signs of water damage on the walls and uncomfortable mattress. Very disappointed.
- Shoaib (7/5): A comfortable and well-located stay with thoughtful touches, though a few practical issues could be - I really liked the size of the room—it was very comfortable. I appreciated having a desk where I could do my work, and the presence of a TV and an ensuite bathroom was excellent. The location on Mill Road was ideal, with easy access to restaurants and grocery stores. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed many aspects. As for things I wasn't pleased with, the main issue was that the room was generally very hot—likely due to the time of year. A cooler was kindly provided, but it wasn’t very effective. There were no instructions in the room, so I had to look online to figure out how it worked. It turns out there’s a bucket at the bottom that needs to be filled with cold water or ice packs. I didn’t have any ice packs, so I ended up cleaning the bucket myself—it was filled with dirty water, which was quite off-putting considering that’s what the machine uses to cool the air. I then had to manually fill the bucket with cold water from the sink using a cup, which was quite a task. While I really appreciated how clean the rest of the room was, this part of the experience felt neglected. It might help if part of the cleaning routine involved emptying and cleaning that bucket between guests, and ideally, if a more effective cooling system were available during hot weather.
Another point of confusion was the kitchen arrangement. The property is shared, though I’m not sure how many other tenants were staying there. While there was a kettle and some coffee and milk pods in the room, it wasn’t clear whether I could use the cutlery, mugs, or other items in the kitchen. I didn’t know if they were shared or belonged to specific tenants, so I felt hesitant whenever I needed to use something. Access to the fridge was great, but for everything else, clearer guidance—or simply providing basic utensils in the room itself—would make things much more straightforward for future guests.
- Oluwaseyi (8/5): Very good -
- James (4/5): - Television didnt work- reported on day 1,day 2, day 3 and day 4.
it wasnt fixed.
Air conditioning didnt work.- reported on day 1, fixed on day 2
- Christopher (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rajeev (2/5): Only for emergency situation - Decent cleanliness Single glaze windows which didnot close properly
Traffic noise wont allow for a sound sleep
- Federica (7/5): Good -
- David (8/5): quiet - the accommodation was pretty much empty I didn't see anyoe else until I checked out the room was great in the penthouse. I would rebook if I needed to come and stay again having to pay an extra £15 on top of the booking was ok but then I was informed that I needed to pay a £100 security deposit that would be refunded a couple of days after checking out. It then took a week to ge the deposit back
- Denes (9/5): Superb - A budget accommodation at an excellent location, with all the basics. I can say, it's better than others in this category. No clear info about check-in, especially in the booking.com interface: once it says confirmed, then turns out it's not, I have to upload my passport to get the check-in details and even provide my bank card directly to their company.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Richard (7/5): Not a bad place to stay. Would stay there again. - Liked the kitchen with it's fridge, kettle, oven and microwave. However there seemed to be no cutlery. Take away places and 2 supermarkets close by. The TV didn't work.
- Julia (4/5): Disappointing - access to a shared kitchen was really lovely. checkin procedures, security deposit requirement
- Caterina (9/5): Superb - The location was great, the room really pretty and comfortable.
- ANDREW (8/5): Cheap and cheerful hotel in a great location - The hotel was a bit tricky to find, you have to be organised and check-in in advance and I had to chase up the check-in details on the day because they weren't sent to me. Communication was otherwise good. I was right at the top of the building so it was very hot, but the room was comfortable if a little worn, with peeling wallpaper and a squeaky bed. This all sounds negative, but it was perfectly serviceable, clean, and with good in-room facilities. There was also a shared kitchen which was very handy, and it was reasonably priced for a very expensive city! It was also perfectly placed to explore, so I would recommend it.
- Alona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Helena (3/5): Poor - Close proximity to Cambridge train station Struggled to check in - given instructions to open a lock box but no key inside, had to call up to receive a key (no reception, no explanation as to who had the key and why), uncomfortable bed, broken furniture in room, curtains didn't close properly, shower drain didn't work and leaked water all over the floor, no handsoap for the sink, and there was a clump of hair attached to the shower hose. I wouldn't expect to pay £105 a night for this.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Worst customer satisfaction - The next day of reservation I received an e-mail from the host company saying I needed to pay a £100 deposit within 24 hours, otherwise they reserve the right to cancel my booking.
I’ve tried but the payment system on their website didn’t work and there was a message that authorization would be made 24 hours before the visit. I wrote to the host and they said there’ll be no cancellation because I’ve paid for the room. But the last day I had the same problem, they held me on the line to solve the system problem but couldn’t manage for 3 hours, they still insisted on the deposit otherwise they wouldn’t send the check-in info. I was late for a lot of things and if I didn’t have a friend in the UK who did a bank transfer I would be looking for a new place on the last day with high prices. If this is your system's fault you shouldn’t insist on a deposit.
The location is fine, room no.8 was not bad for 1 person to stay. The blinds were ruined but I fixed them. I didn’t receive any check-out information but I did everything reversed and sent a message to the host, I didn’t receive any feedback.
When they received the deposit, they said they’d refund in 2 days after my visit ended but they haven’t. Me and my friend wrote to them, and they managed the refund on the 5th day of checkout. I was lucky that I have an awesome friend there, otherwise, this journey would be a nightmare.
They are still kind in their messages; however, no problem-solving and customer satisfaction.
- Ayaaz (8/5): Very good -
- Carlos (8/5): Great location - Mattress could be better
- Lee (8/5): Key Issue - Issue with keys which was disappointing
Keys for apartment 0 were in key box 11 and vice a versa.
Good location
- Dhruba (9/5): Superb - If there was any kind of reception it will be more splendid
- Daisy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maria (9/5): Good location and comfy room - Good location to city centre and the room was equipped with essentials like kettle and toiletries. The bed was comfy too. The standard check in time could have been an hour earlier at 2pm rather than 3pm
- Amanda (6/5): Suited my needs - Proximity to the centre The bed was uncomfortable
- Kansini (6/5): Pleasant -
- Rebecca (8/5): - Clean and very central to lots of local places
- Rachel (7/5): Great location, slight upgrade needed - Amazing location, just 5 minutes walk from everything! Staff were very attentive and checked in to see how we were! Had everything you’d need (except another pillow) The bed was very uncomfortable and only one very flat pillow each.
- Vukan (9/5): Superb -
- Bryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (7/5): Good -
- Anna (10/5): Price = Quality and Location (Amazing) - Check in and check out were no problems. Followed the instructions that were sent to email on the day of registration.
Location - the center is 10 minutes walk away, paid parking is 3 minutes away 20 pounds per day, free on Sunday. Communication - I used email, the answer was immediate.
Of the minuses, do not forget to make a deposit (it is clear why).
- Richard (10/5): - A good condition handsome old house in a prime spot on Mill Road, Cambridge’s “second city Centre”
- Shih-Chieh (8/5): - Booked this place with some trepidation due to the negative reviews but was the cheapest and most conveniently located.
Check-in process was a bit fiddly but the online live chat staff was responsive and helpful, even sent a follow up text message to check if everything went smoothly.
Room was as described and clean, everything worked (although bathroom sink was a bit blocked and TV signal was poor, but nothing major). Cleaning staff always pleasant and polite. Kitchen is quite well-equipped. Enjoyed meeting and socialising with other travellers in the kitchen/living room area.
Overall pleasantly surprised and would recommend for a short budget stay.
- Redden (8/5): Very good -
- Joash (5/5): Passable -
- Mohamed (3/5): Poor -
- Hong (6/5): Awful - Location No staff; no answer of calls. Cannot get the key.
- Duncan (8/5): Great apartment. Arrange checkin in advance. - The apartment is really clean and comfortable.
Checkin was however a bit difficult. There are a few steps you need to take online before you reach the apartment. Better to do these a day before you arrive.
- Verified traveler (2/5): not great for the price. - I was assigned a number that wasn't reflected on the main blue door, and it took a while to figure it out also considering it was a late check in. Thanks to a couple of students in house and customer service emergency who finally rang back.
while the bed and pillows were super comfortable and AC was working, the rest of the amenities were not as great. fridge shelves kept falling, bathroom sink blocked, i couldnt get hot water later in the night, none of windows opened except the toilet one, the heating element is very hot and i kept touching it with my elbow accidentally. living area blind string was broken and neither the window nor blinds could open. floor wasn't very clean, and exterior was worse.
suggestion: include a full-length mirror and bedside lamp. for gb137 per night i definitely deserved better, had to check out a day early due to the sink and cold shower situation.
- Schönhart (7/5): Good - The location was a good walking distance to the centre, but also not too far from the train station. There were also a lot of nice shops, cafes and restaurants in the street, the park close by or even the indoor swimming pool just a fed steps away.
The room had everything needed even a iron, hairdryer etc in the cupboard. I only got my mail with all the necessary informations for the check in last minute. So that was quite difficult and annoying to get to my room.
It wasn't the cleanest, but definitely good enough.
- Paweł (7/5): Good -
- Valentina (4/5): - Unkind staff, inflexible rules, absolute Lack of Help for thé traveller
- Chris (6/5): Did the job I guess. - It's good enough, but a little rough around the edges. Room size was good. Looks tired. Not all the TV channels worked. The shower head kept dropping. Only shampoo, no shower gel provided. Deposit paying and check-in process was a faff! No in-room safety signage and no fire exit/fire action signage in the property.
- Shikemi (7/5): The staff were really helpful. -
- Roseanna (8/5): Very good -
- Shamun (5/5): Passable -
- Jgc (1/5): Bad - nothing, they stole my deposit they stole my deposit
- Achilles Emmanuel (6/5): - New to the City Centre. Equipped . One comment is that they should de odorize the room for the next guest .
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (7/5): Good -
- Cristina (6/5): Pleasant -
- FUNDA (8/5): - It was good option for stay in Cambridge
- Jane (5/5): My partner couldn't sleep - No breakfast Key safe.. on line communication not great,
Not straightforward as I would have liked
.
- Phonpun (9/5): Superb -
- Kamaljit (7/5): Good - Great location, good internet speed.
- Soumavo (9/5): Superb -
- Akm (4/5): Disappointing - Location There was no fan in the room and it was very hot.
- Michelle (7/5): Practical location, not very comfortable sleep - Great location. Close to the city centre, shopping mall and bus stops. They offer cleaning services for long stays poor air circulation, which is tough in warm days, especially as the fan doesn't work. The stairs are tough. The floors are creaky along the whole property, so you can hear the movement of everyone.
- Stanley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Roslyn (7/5): Frustrating and poor access to the property. Ok once was inside the door. Quite expensive for wha - No breakfast provided Major problem getting a key to the property. No one on-site. It meant emails and phone calls standing outside. Key lockbox was hard to use … dine by code. Ruined experience. I had to ask another guest as he came to the property to help with the lockbox. Took 75 minutes to sort out.
- Michelle (4/5): Disappointing -
- Mike (5/5): Passable - Location is good, communal kitchen is well equipped. Beds are worn out and lumpy.
- Mariannick (8/5): - I would have liked to be informed about the stairs
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Caroline (8/5): Solo business trip - The central location was great, the room and facilities were really clean. There was no key in the safe when I arrived but staff sorted this out.promptly. the room was tired with cracks in the wall and a very squeaky bed. The furniture looked good, but was flimsy.
- Sue (1/5): Poor service poor communication would not recommend this experience - Poor communication let us missing deposit and when we did realise being told to late despite there still being a whole day and night left. Unhelpful staff no management available v v dissatisfied customer
- Daniela (7/5): Great location and staff service, but the room needs more maintenance and better care - The location is great and the kitchen as a common room In general I didn’t like the room, the facilities. It looks quite old, not too much maintenance, the curtain was broken and the carpet felt very humid.
- Milburn (9/5): Superb -
- Hans (8/5): Good like I expected - Great location, nice en suite room and I could use the shared kitchen a lot.
- Kateryna (2/5): Very poor - bad experience in everything everything
- Luke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgia-carla (4/5): Disappointing - It is close (approx. 20 minutes walk) to the city centre Not very clean (the toilet seat was dirty - likely not cleaned between stays).
- Dylan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Gabriel (7/5): Everything good, except no wifi - Almost everything, besides the wifi that stopped working WIFI stopped working and I got no answers about it
- William (7/5): Good - Location is convenient. The other guests were interesting to talk to in the lounge. There is no reception, instead they email you a form to fill in, some people will find this inconvenient.
- Jacob (1/5): very upsetting and disgusting and unclean - NOTHING everyone was not helpful the room had mould in the bathroom noisy radiators and central heating unhelpful staff room to noisy told no they room available until booking .com involved
did not stay moved out the day after never spent any more time there unable to get refund Appsolultly disgusting
- Sonu (7/5): Good - tv isn’t connected to netflix nd stuff
- Alexander (1/5): Bad -
- Saami (6/5): Pleasant -
- Delev (8/5): Very good -
- Wei (7/5): Good - Staff is very nice. The room is very clean. Good location. The facilities are with poor quality. I could feel the springs in the mattress, not very comfortable to sleep on it. I kept hearing the bed noise from the next room. The window is super old, didn't insulte any traffic noise outside, and it was vibrating with the wind all the night.
So basically everything is about noise, not possible to sleep very well.
- Alla (9/5): I enjoyed my stay overall. - Some key things you should know before booking - read carefully their terms. I read it, so it wasn’t a surprise for me, but many people in reviews clearly did not and they left a lot of negative comments :)
In brief: they will ask for proof of your identity, fill a form and also a 100 pounds refundable deposit that you won’t get back immediately after you leave (depending on a bank). I’m still waiting for that, it’s been a week, hopefully in the next week or 2 at most I’ll see it. This is all needed to keep prices affordable (e.g. they don’t have reception to check your documents on arrival). Once you submit all the docs and pay the deposit, they will send you instructions on how to check in and get your keys.
I stayed for 5 weeks.
Let’s move to advantages:
Location is very central, proximal to many shops, restaurants, university, public transport, train station. It was easy to get to work for me
Unlike a hotel, there is a washing machine. The room was heated well even during cold times so you can easily dry your clothes inside quickly. This way you can save time and money on launderette.
Unlike a hotel, there is a reasonably well-equipped and spacious kitchen. Knives though could be sharpened and some utensils restocked. There are 2 fridges, one is newer. Kitchen is not busy at all, so you can use it pretty much any time.
The house is very quiet. I only saw one party that continued after 10pm though I did not hear them since I was staying on the top floor. I could easily go to bed early and get up early.
Staff is very polite and friendly and always happy to help. They resolved my issues pretty quickly.
My room was facing the backyard, so it was quiet.
Internet connection was stable.
No issues with shower as mentioned by some guests (always nice and hot) Some things to take into account:
Quality of cleaning depends on the day/person, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s not so good, but overall satisfactory
The bathroom is indeed very small (well, I suppose that it’s just characteristic of an old English house) and towel dryer was very close to the toilet so I scolded myself couple times
a bit shorter bed that I'd be perfectly comfortable with (I'm relatively tall person)
- Olumide (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elisabetta (5/5): Passable -
- Yiying (1/5): Horrible experience - The location is close to Cambridge There is no service at all, the cleaning lady is very rude, one of the male resident is cold and racist. We arrived in the rainy evening, there is no check in desk and the staff didn’t sent us lock box info in advance. We waited outside for half an hour try to call the service call centre, the call centre instructed us to open a lock box but the key from lock box didn’t open the building main door. The call centre lady had no idea why our key doesn’t open the building main entrance. One very selfish and racist male residence in the building came in and out for 3 times but didn’t let us in to the building and left us out for additional 30 min. We stand in rain for more than an hour and all our jackets were wet and cold. Eventually the service line staff connected us with another female resident who is more friendly and helpful- she showed us our room (room 0) is at the side door. The room is small and old. There is no toilet paper left in the room, we request from the cleaning lady second day, she was rude and refused to provide any toilet paper. We had to buy our own toilet paper.
- Ali (4/5): Disappointing - Nothing Deposit takes 2 weeks to get it back
- Zahrul (6/5): Pleasant -
- Claire (6/5): Adequate but expensive for what it was. - The instructions to enter were clear. The linen and place was clean They should not advertise free wifi if there is no wifi in the bedroom. The only place i could get Wifi was in the common lounge downstairs.
- Christoph (2/5): Very poor - Super annoying registration process, had to pay extra deposit in front which was not communicated before booking.
Wouldn't rent again and absolutely can't recommend it
- Verified traveler (4/5): - WIFI stopped working after couple days & wouldn’t come back on before I left. Service couldn’t help. As I was traveling for business this was a major inconvenience. Sockets not sensibly placed. Mold in the bathroom & the shower was leaking.
- Aleksandra (3/5): Very disappointing and stressful - Location Carpet in the room looked dirty, a lot of dust, chair was ripped, walls not painted. Overall just looked unkept.
Staff were rude over the phone. To get into the property you get a key out of a key safe, up on vacating you put the key back. I have followed all the instructions and vacated.
Later on in the day I get a call from one of the members of staff, telling me in a very accusatory tone that I haven’t left the key. They were telling me off saying their next customer can’t get in because of me. I of course did everything right so I was explaining that I left the key. Later on with multiple calls, multiple members of staff were just blaming me for not leaving the key, it was confusing what they even wanted me to do. They caused me so much stress and I was giving them ideas on what to do eg speak to cleaning staff etc. Later on I got a call saying the key was found and that there was some confusion and the next client already has a key!! It seemed very shady and there was no apology! They wasted so much of my time and ruined my afternoon and didn’t even say sorry!
if you stay here take pictures of the safe where you put the key so you have proof!
