Guest Reviews
- 685rosst (10/5): Excellent location. Clean & Tidy. Buffet breakfast. Family rooms. - Walking distance to Edinburgh Waverley, Dynamic Earth, Camera Obscura, Edinburgh Castle, bus tours, etc.
- 731kathw (10/5): Great stay with fantastic hotel and food . - Great locationfor exploring 5mins away from royal mile .immaculate and comfy beds in a clean room .rooms were spacious and tidy with easy access to phone chargers .bathroom with fresh clean towels and walking shower were a bonus as I have a disability that prevents me using a bath .we had breakfast also which was excellent with a great choice for a healthy eater aswell as other guests who are lucky enough to enjoy a full Scottish breakfast š. A great price especially if you book in advance you can get a great deal all in all a great hotel .lovely staff .highly recommend.
- elisecZ8896MM (10/5): Amazing Birthday Stay! - The staff were very friendly and chatty and helpful, the hotel location was great! Just a short walk away from everything we had planned. There were a few changes to the stay before we arrived and we managed to sort them out quickly and effectively. The bed was really comfortable and the room was lovely.
- janetkU5385PG (8/5): Conveniently located - This is our fourth stay at the Edinburgh central travelodge and it couldn't be better located for all of the attractions. Lovely, quiet room and nice breakfast, I did try the buddha bowl for dinner one night which was pretty awful, more of a chicken salad than a buddha bowl, but other than that, it was a very pleasant stay.
- goonerb0y (8/5): Perfect location - Great location. Very close to the train station and short walk to the Royal Mile. Staff extremely helpful and attentive, especially at breakfast which I highly recommend you add. Hotel is a little dated and could do with a makeover but that aside itās a perfect place to stay for a short break in Edinburgh.
- Seaside42649432635 (8/5): Excellent location - Stayed here for my first time in Edinburgh as I wanted to be near all attractions in walking distance. The location did not disappoint, new and old town all within walking distance. Hotel was clean. Had breakfast once but not again, was ok but nothing special and wanted to try local cafes/restaurants.
Downside was the wind noise coming through the window and amenities very basic, no telephone, hairdryer or draw in the room but for a couple of days this was ok, for a longer stay no. Only 2 lifts and one didnt work, even heard someone get stuck inside so walked up to 4th floor (8 flights) every time! If I was to visit Edinburgh for a short stay again (and hoping I will) then I would return, for a longer stay I would upgrade
- Daveang1 (10/5): Fantastic location and Hotel - Fantastic location, the rooms were very clean and quiet, breakfast was well presented and kept well stocked and was very good quality. All the staff we encountered were very polite and courteous and made us feel welcome from when we first checked in until we checked out. When we come back to Edinburgh we would definately book here again.
- patriciahQ9352PN (10/5): A great friendly team who went above and beyond - The travelodge is in a great location short walk from the train station .
We had rooms over looking tge car park so very quite and a good night's sleep room nice and clean abd well stocked with tea coffee and pleanty at reception if you needed more .
When arriving we where a little early for our checking but the team on the desk where lovley took our details and told us to have a drink and they would come get us when our room was ready.
We had 3 rooms as away with a group of friends
We had booked breakfast which is great value for money lots if choice and well stocked.
Again the breakfast team where lovley and friendly
On the evening we used the bar area which was again good price on drinks and pizza deal.
We really enjoyed our two night stay the whole team where so friendly well done travel lodge keep it up .
- wayjack (10/5): Great base to go explore from - Stay here for a couple of days before moving on to nxt destination, hotel was clean in a great spot ,just off the royal mile, staff at hotel very helpful and food was gd at hotel ,would recommend to stay here
- 584shelaghm (8/5): Location, price friendly and spectacular staff! - You cannot beat the location and the wonderful staff who work all here make this an awesome experience. Shoutout to Shannon on the front desk, but really all of the great people here. This is a budget wise hotel with an amazing location and we had a street view where we could see Arthur's Seat. Room is small and basic and only 30 mins free wifi but lots of hot water and if you need a hair dryer or ironing board or anything the people who work here will bend over backwards. I have never met nicer people - everyone who works here is truly lovely and genuine. We spent 5 nights here and the breakfast was excellent every morning, lots of choice and again, the staff are the BEST. We had a few drinks and snacks while we were here and again, cannot say enough nice things about the folks working here. If you are looking for value to spend more time in the beautiful city of Edinburgh...this is the place. Waverley Train Station is literally a 7 minute walk and the Royal Mile is right next door to this hotel. We walked everywhere, up to the Castle, the Scottish Museum, Gray Frairs Bobby, Victoria Row etc. it was really great.
- Sightsee28807061233 (10/5): Great value for money - Great value ,great location, great nights sleep on all 3 nights. Professional friendly FOH staff. Breakfast delicious especially sausages and bacon. Really enjoyed our stay and will return without a doubt
- mariancV3736FQ (10/5): Travelodge central Edinburgh - The the hotel very nice the reception staff absolutely lovley and very helpful in any matter the chef wow stunning the bar teamā¤ļø i love you guys irreproachable Alison front desk youbare just lovleyā¤ļø
- sharonhN6132UC (10/5): Will definitely stay again - Perfect stay, noise overnight minimal , a very good night sleep. Staff are friendly and helpful.
- cjs3454 (10/5): Great location! - Stayed here for 5 nights in March. The location of the hotel is excellent, 10 minutes from Picardy Place Tram stop or 5 minutes from Waverley Train Station. Very close to the Royal Mile, shops and restaurants. Down a side street so not too much street noise either. I Would stay here again. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
- W8525HHmaryf (10/5): Clean, quiet and modern - Travelodge Edinburgh Central was clean and fresh and cosy. A home from home. Great location and helpful kind hard working staff. Clean hot shower and very peaceful with excellent location. Just off the Royal Mile and a convenience store 1 minute away. I can't wait to visit again. Very reasonable prices off season midweek
- Jazzyjaq (10/5): Great stay and close to everything - We had a great stay at this hotel, less than a 2min walk to the Royal Mile, with all other attractions close by and parking on site at an extra cost. The rooms were clean with a comfortable bed. It was a really quiet on our floor. Breakfast was great with plenty to choose from. For the price and it being unlimited it worked out cheaper than trying to find a cafe every day. The staff were great, polite and happy to help. Leah especially was great. Would definately recommend for the closeness to everything.
- Y3199CDtracyw (10/5): Amazing location, a good night's sleep and a fantastic breakfast. - The hotel is in a prime location. It is within walking distance to almost all of the main places to visit in Edinburgh. The room was very pleasant with comfy beds and everything you need for your stay, including an iron and ironing board, a hairdryer and hot drinks. The breakfast was very tasty. Lots of choice and always well stocked. I would definitely stay here if I came to Edinburgh again.
- kirstyj825 (4/5): Patchy, central ish location but ammenties vary depending on member of staff you speak to - Me and my sister booked a 3 day stay at Travelodge in the city centre for a sight seeing shopping holiday. The hotel is fairly central a little further than train station I would say than listed, as walking up hill with cases on cobble stones avoiding traffic, its on the other side of Princes Street, more towards the Castle depending on what you want to say. It is quite far out of the eating places so be prepared to either eat out and walk back in the dark, which doesn't look like the ideal route in the dark and passes many a pub on route, or be prepared to eat food cold once you have walked back. Therefore, it may be best to think about Travelodge Restaurant like we did, our 2nd night we ate dinner out to be served by a lovely lady all by herself serving many tables, doing the bar and check-in by self! And food arrived quickly, tasty within 20mins or so, and over and done, easy peasy. Budget-ish, cheaper than most other food in the city, and good. Day 3 we decided to do the same, dinner at the Travelodge and this is where it went downhill, we waited 2 hours for food! Not to hear of any delays to our table we had to go up and ask where it was as the lady at check-in and other 3 staff on the restaurant were doing nothing. There were 2 members of staff cleaning tables we could see had clearly not been sat at or had any food on, wasting time. Once food arrived 8pm after arriving before 6pm, it was okay luke warm and then dessert took another half an hour to arrive with us reminding them we had ordered it. There was no apology, no thank you for waiting, no compensation offered...free drink, side etc. Unlike other tables who were families were also waiting the same legnth of time were offered free food or drinks to apologise. At the end of the meal I found someone at the bar, as it seemed the staff were hiding in the kitchen, and addressed my concerns, just advised politely I didn't think it was fair to allow customers to wait 2hrs for food with not informing them or apologising. The guy just said oh yeah thanks we'll take that onboard, again no apology and said did no one offer you a free drink, I said no they hadn't and he simply said oh, did not offer himself. Considering there were 4 members of staff on this evening and 1 the day before it does make you wonder if they need the other 3 or not š¤£. This very much impacted our stay and last day in the city meaning we were limited with what we could do with our last evening just sat in the restaurant, hsd we known the wait was going to be so long we would have gone elsewhere. The staff didn't seem bothered. We check-ed out next day, would not be returning. The room was fine as usual, some marks in the bath, some sweetcorn on the floor when we hadn't taken any food to our room so it hadn't been cleaned the best. There was also no tea bags when we arrived so not sure if it had been restocked. Overall not the best, the view was pretty but for the price has left sour taste for our holiday and future visits to Travelodge, when we have experienced no issues in the past.
- SirJohnny (10/5): Central and friendly - Very helpful staff and was assisted when I couldnāt access the parking tablet. Used the bar one night. Parking is useful as itās quite tricky in the city. Close to everything so very happy - welcome kit kats nice - internet failed on last day but other than that all good
- 157francescah (10/5): Cheap and cheerful, just off the Royal Mile - Weāve stayed here a few times now. Its location is perfect for the old town as itās just off the royal mile. Staff are always really friendly and happy to help and the rooms are always clean.
- michellepN2261RP (4/5): Don't go for a super room - I would stay here again nothing wrong for a basic hotel but definitely wouldn't waste money with a super room. Triple head shower was a basic shower with mould, pillows where awful and lavazza coffee machine only worked half the time. Said quiet rooms but cleaner clattered mugs constantly for 3 hrs every afternoon
- Y1463YVmichellew (10/5): Half term visit - Great location
Nice comfortable and clean
Staff welcoming
Breakfast great choice
- 528niallb (10/5): Value for money and decent night's sleep. - The hotel is in a quiet cobbled road off the Royal Mile so perfect for doing cultural visits to places like the Museum of Scotland or the Grassmarket. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was spotless, comfortable and quiet. A sumptuous cooked breakfast with sausage, bacon and eggs but healthier options available including natural live yoghurt and fruit. Altogether a place which gives value for money and a decent night's sleep.
- futuredub (4/5): Not one of the better ones - Location wise great, next to the Royal mile and sights to be seen. That's about the best of it. Nowhere to leave a suitcase which is fine in itself but the lad across the road they send you to is a dismissive opportunist. After it was recommended to us I heard her tell someone else it wasn't particularly secure. The main receptionist could do with a refresher course on customer focus. Sits there loudly complaining about her workaday woes. I heard another customer come down with a very serious complaint which I won't go into as it wasn't my complaint but I would be up in arms about the attitude and the way it was dealt with. So called Super room had no towels which I had to go looking for and no hand soap. We did have watered down shower gel however, which was nice. Not particularly clean and I won't even bother going into the wife being served a single vodka in a pint glass, what's the point. I'm not down on Travelodge, in fact I quite like it and use it regularly but this one is severely lacking in all departments.
- Mollymonch (2/5): Noisy and cheap - Despite paying extra for a super room it came with a broken light switch, WiFi not working when we paid extra for this, other guests being allowed to create as much noise and chaos as possible fir the entirety of our stay with zero repurcussions despite several complaints across our whole floor. Rude staff member when this was brought to their attention who couldn't provide any resolution. We were only offered to change rooms in the morning, with no explanation given as to why we couldn't move at any other time. It would've been a pleasant stay if it had been cheaper I wouldn't feel ripped off as the room was clean and comfy but everything else really dampened my opinion.
- J4472SCmichelleg (10/5): Perfect location and very comfortable - Brilliant location to get around Edinburgh, as it's only steps away from the Royal Mile. The breakfasts were spot on and a great choice of drinks at the bar. The hotel was quite busy, but this created a fun atmosphere. Drinks were very reasonably priced too. This will be my "go to" accommodation for my next visit to this amazing city.
- Shawfamilytravels (8/5): Great place to stay - Location is great , just a short walk from the Train station, Royal mile 2mins walk.
Check in was very busy, people queued down the ramp outside due to a server error ā¹ļø.
we were on floor -1 room was ok but could really do with a blind at the window as the window is street level ! people can see inside the rooms !
Bathroom had a musty smell, maybe the shower curtain needs changing.
Breakfast was fabulous, the choice of food was huge.
Staff always spoke and were very friendly
- H9429XYclairem (10/5): Fantastic stay ! - Fantastic stay - Hotel staff were fantastic ! Hotel was clean and well kept .
Great location for all your need.
Will definitely go back .
- J3968RLdonnae (10/5): Will return soon. - The check in process eas really easy, staff were fantastic and we were the room quickly.
The room was equipped as expected and we had a good night.
Breakfast was busy but staff got everything moving quickly, food was excellent and at a great price for a family with two children included with an adult and one extra child cost a small amount, this is excellent.
We really enjoyed the stay and the staff and location were fantastic.
Definitely will return.
- lisahQ2529EY (6/5): Ok for the price - Booked a family plus room online. Arrived for check in greeted by friendly staff easy check in. Room was on the 3rd floor nice size for a family of 4. Tea/coffee as expected. We also received kit kats so nice extra.
Location was a 10 min walk from train station easy to find. If you stayed on left hand side of the building it was ok but if you go out the right side of the building it's full of dodgy and homeless people.
We did try to have food in the hotel but the choice of food wasn't the best they have a deal on for a main and side for £15 but my oldest didn't like anything on the menu so we opted to eat out. Plenty of choice around we went for fish and chips at Langley which was nice.
Shower was good and room clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was ok, bit bland but ok for the price.
Overall ok hotel
- 542islag (6/5): Budget shouldn't mean dirty - I stayed here with my two young children.
Pros
- Staff are friendly and welcoming
- Breakfast was fine (only scrambled eggs and not much in the way of pastries though.)
- It is located near the museums, castle e.t.c
- I felt safe staying there
Cons
- Don't pay for the Travellodge plus rooms, ours was dusty, dirty and there was mould in the bathroom. Nothing 'plus' about it apart from a rather dirty coffee machine and some kitkats...š¤
- For the plus room you get wifi included, for only two devices, not really useful when you have a family room with multiple occupants. (Just go for the free one and change the email address every 30 mins, so you don't have to pay.)
- You absolutely cannot check in until 3 on the dot, not even 30 seconds before. This is obviously dictated by head office and receptions hands are tied. So, we arrived at 2 mins to 3 and just as check in was allowed the Internet went down for 20 minutes, which meant 30+ people waiting to check in. This is a big money making scheme by the hotel, they want you to pay for early check in, but will they give you money back if you can't access your room in time? Obviously not!
It's budget, it's basic and it's central. I would stay again minus the 'plus' experience, which was poor.
- claire307 (10/5): Excellent value for money stay - I was pleasantly suprised with our stay at Travelodge Edinburgh. It was conveniently located a scenic 5-10minute walk from Waverley Station and just off the sights of the Royal Mile. The reception area was clean and modern with check in staff very friendly. The beds in the room were very comfortable and we slept soundly. Breakfast was excellent with cooked full breakfast items available in abundance and a selection of fruit juices, toast, pancakes and pastries. I would definitely recommend this hotel as it is value for money in a city which can be quite pricey!
- ronaldk713 (10/5): Would use again - Right in the heart of Edinburgh good size room clean with very friendly staff
- Adeeb2019 (10/5): Great holiday stay - The team was great especially Alison. She was so lovely and friendly. Also great central location with everything being so conveniently nearby
- E7821HMsophiet (2/5): Terrible experience, - Good Afternoon, I have previously made a bad review wanted to edit it.
I am writing to you to make an official complaint would like someone in head office to help me with this complaint.
I have just had the unfortunate pleasure of trying to raise my complaint with a Manager called Debbie. At the Edinburgh Central hotel. When I tried to explain why I wasnt happy with the customer service or my room she processed to discuss this issue in front of the other receptionists and the other customers who were sitting in the restaurant and lobby. She never bothered taking me a side to have a quiet word with me which I felt was very unprofessional and I felt very uncomfortable. I thought the way Debbie spoke to me was really unceptable.
My issues were I booked the superoom which was significantly more expensive then the standard room. Which on arrive the receptionist told me with my booking I am not entitled to wifi which my understanding was when you booked the superoom wifi was factored in. That when i booked the room i missed the promotion for getting wifi. Which i really dont understand when i am paying extra for a room would think the wifi would be factored in. Also when I tried to check in at ten to 3 was told i would have pay an early check in fee for £20. I have been staying at this hotel very many years and other travelodges and never had a bad experience till now. I am really upset and frustrated the way this Manager dealt with my complaint. She never apologised she was very argumentative and made a point of saying she wasnt happy that I have left a negative review on trip advicer. I am a paying customer I have a right to leave a bad review when I know its relevant. When I tried to express my bad experience she wasnt sympathetic at all. Debbie couldn't see my point of view at all. When I asked for contact details to get in contact with head office told me just "look online" I booked this superoom for my Birthday the dates are 12/02/2026-14/02/26 stayed in room 315. I would like you too look into this and forward my email to head office and to investigate my complaint. Look forward to your response.
Kind regards.
Sophie Taylor.
- joshbowes06 (10/5): Edinburgh stay -
Ellis, leah, will, debbie were fantastic and its amazingly quiet for a central hotel with easy links to anywhere
- Huggywuggy (6/5): Cheap and central - Booked for one night and its location is ideal as just off the royal mile. There is no place to leave left luggage and was advised I could pay Ā£20 for an early check in or shop over the road charge Ā£4 a bag. We chose this option but be aware that the room wasnāt secure so maybe not ideal if you have expensive belongings
Room was spacious and clean but could do with a refurbishment. Road outside was noisy and could hear traffic all through the night so maybe ask for a room at the back away from road. I wouldnāt stay here again but you get what you pay for as they say
- wilmadE461PP (10/5): Great hotel in a great location - This is our 2nd visit to Edinburgh and the 2nd time we stayed in this hotel. It's in a great location in the old town, just off the Royal Mile and a short walk from Waverly station. The room was clean and the beds comfortable. We didnt eat breakfast in the hotel but we had delicious pizza there on one of the evenings. There are lots of bars and restaurants close by and the Monkey Barrel and Comedy cellar are only a few mins walk.
- yytbob (10/5): Very warm receptionists - Very warm receptionists, especially Dunholm who helped us check in. Satisfying full English breakfast with good value. Hope to offer free luggage storage at the reception in the future.
- Curiosity591903 (10/5): Great place to stay. - Great location at a good price.
Very good breakfast, rooms and service in a friendly atmosphere.
- U1445SPdavidg (10/5): Great value hotel in the centre of the old town. - We stayed here for a long weekend in Feb 26.
Great value hotel. We booked the upgraded room. Perfectly situated just off the Royal Mile so everything walking distance.
15 walk from the tram stop. Room was spacious and clean. Only fault was the bathroom smelt a bit of drains!
Definitely book the breakfast.
There are no luggage facilities. We ended paying the extra £20 for the earlier check in. There is a shop across the road that takes luggage which we used on the final day as our flight was in the afternoon. They charged £10 for 2 x 10kg bags and a rucksack.
- Y3575IFandrewe (10/5): Weekend retreat - The hotel is well kept with friendly staff and clean rooms. Just situated off the royal mile and 10 minutes from Waverley station.nice bar and breakfast restaurant to accompany. Nicely priced and is a winner for anybody visiting for a weekend or a few days.
- oliverbW7886AR (10/5): Nice hotel in a great city - I just want to say that the staff at Travelodge Central were great. Friendly and helpful and always had a smile. The rooms were clean and a good size. We stayed for 3 nights and Breakfast was lovely and there was plenty of it, really was good value for money. The train and bus stops are literally 5 min walk away, which was handy for us coming to and from the airport and the racecourse. Edinburgh is a lovely city with great craic in the bars. I would recommend this to anyone
- 480sigital (10/5): Great experience - Great service, perfect location, delicious breakfast. Staff was very professional and helpful. Reasonably priced.
- dgh65 (8/5): Overall Very good - Great location, staff helpful and friendly. Near bars restaurants and places to visit. Short walk to Holyrood and science museum.
- 201tareqa (2/5): Unprofessional by all standards - I booked a night at Edinburgh Central at the beginning of January through their official website during a promotion. After booking, I noticed that the dates had automatically changed. I tried to cancel the booking and rebook, but this wasnāt possible. I then tried calling them, but no one answered, so I sent an email at the same time requesting a date change.
After 5 working days, I finally received a reply on the evening of January 5th. They said (in two emails) that if I had contacted them by noon on January 5th, it would have been easy to resolve. However, I had actually reached out 5 days earlier, and the delay in their response caused me to lose my booking. If they had simply said āthis is your responsibility,ā it would have been fine, but instead, their emails were condescending and frustrating.
When I arrived at the hotel, I tried explaining the situation to a staff member, but she was rude, interrupted me, and said it wasnāt her responsibility. At the same time, she was yelling at another employee, ordering her to lower her voice in a hysterical and disrespectful manner.
On the second day, there was a misunderstanding about breakfast. I ate two spoons of fruit salad, thinking it was included, and they charged me Ā£11. While this wasnāt a huge issue, it felt unprofessional.
Regarding the rooms, the prices are overrated and do not match the condition of the rooms. There was a persistent smell of leftovers, broken sinks, and overall poor maintenance.
In the end, their excuse was that I had booked without specifying dates, so the system automatically assigned themābut thatās impossible!
Overall, my experience was disappointing due to the lack of professionalism, poor service, and subpar room conditions.
- X6925RYtonyh (10/5): Excellent value, good location. - Clean, tidy, warm and comfortable rooms excellent value, just off the Royal Mile, great staff, good breakfast. Used a few times, always good.
- ay_ed796 (10/5): Lovely place, good location - It was very comfortable place, warm, clean room, there was no noise. Especially location was perfect, very close to central area, thank you
- janicehG7132GG (10/5): Great location for a reasonable price. - I booked this Travellodge as my son was getting married 10 minutes away. I was surprised by the reasonable price considering it was so close to the Royal Mile although it was January. The entrance was inviting and the room was clean and comfortable. We didn't eat in the hotel but there was ample tea and coffee available.
- Meander168989 (10/5): Great value - Traveloge never disappoints a no frills hotel but addresses all basic needs with great thought to detail. We had a super quiet stay on a short break from another City.Heating in room for winter was superb!contributed to a much needed rest.Team members polite and most helpful thank you hope to stay again in near future.TD
- H1376KEphiln (10/5): Excellent hotel, ideally located. - Excellent location, approx 5 minute walk from Waverley station (exit via the Market Street exit and turn left on reaching Market Street) Hotel is 50 yards from the lower end of the Royal Mile.
Room was very quiet, with no noise from the Street, was the usual good standard that you get from TL. Breakfast was very good, did not have food there in the evening, I went to the pub No 1 about 50 yards away.
- Explorer61956556161 (10/5): Holiday - Hotel was perfectly situated for visiting Edinburgh and nice staff to to make you welcome
- fionacT3750VH (10/5): Very good to the manager - The reception staff were all very friendly and nice also the breakfast was very good nice clean room with nice hot water also nice place to visit i had a very good time
- S7666LIdanb (2/5): Super room isn't - Paid for a super room in Edinburgh Central. About the only super part was going home. Although the coat hanger did a great job holding up my jacket, its quite masculine with many zips for effect so needed a sturdy hanger.
Floor was filthy, my feet were black after foolishly removing my socks and walking around. Bathroom smelled of mould, though I couldn't see any. Shower tray was cracked and leaked. Heating was poor and insulation awful. One half of me was freezing and the other boiling from the radiator. I slept like a rotisserie chicken. The radiator lights the room up like a christmas tree every 20 seconds.
Staff were pleasant enough and Edinburgh is such a lovely city that it's only a short walk to somewhere pleasant that isn't the hotel. The hotel just needs some serious investment.
If your doing as I did literally only sleeping here drunk, it's passable. But, probably many many many many many better options. The local park had a few benches.
- Flossdaboss (10/5): Edinburgh was a blast - Chose the Travelodge as we always use them when we stay away from home it was in the old part of Edinburgh so a little bit out of the way had lovely little pubs nearby with live singers so always something to do near the hotel staff were lovely and helpful hotel was clean and warm x
- Louise15Scott (10/5): Worth a visit - On arrival the young gentleman on the reception desk (wish I knew his name) was very helpful and polite. We chose our own room when we booked at a small cost. The only thing is we chose a room on the top floor (5th floor) but the lift only goes to floor 4 then you have to walk up the stairs not ideal if you have difficulty on stairs. It wasn't shown when we booked.
The room was clean and warm when we entered.
We stayed off the cobbled road side of the hotel as this was a very busy road and could imagine it being quite noisy. We never heard any noise the whole evening.
We didn't have any food so can't comment but we did have a drink on our way in from a night out. The prices are just what we were paying in the bars in Edinburgh.
- 946kathrynf (10/5): 10/10 - Excellent location, staff very helpful, rooms good size and towel change if asked. Would defo stay again
- 919moirag (10/5): Lovely stay - Had a lovely long weekend in the hotel nothing was to much trouble , hotel very clean staff constantly cleaning and tidying up , would definitely stay again ,
- AlexandraAshbrook (10/5): Great long birthday weekend - excellent hotel. Location perfect and staff top notch. - 3 couples stayed for my birthday weekend.
Rooms very clean, staff polite and friendly, food in the cafe bar good quality and value.
Sat down with us to help us plan our events for the weekend, which was a lovely touch.
All credit to the manager and her team.
- hanvidgejack (10/5): Excelled Expectations - Just returned from this hotel, highly recommend excellent location minutes: from the Royal Mile. Great spotless clean room & friendly attentive caring staff. Nice little touches in our superoom: coffee machine, biscuits, iron & excellent power shower. We'll definitely be back. Thank You!
- iaint308 (10/5): Great hotel in a great place. - Very well situated hotel and close to the train station. Hotel was lovely and Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of restaurants, shops and pubs very close and lovely scenery and buildings all around the Royal Mile, which 50 yards from the hotel. Will definitely go to the hotel again; highly recommended.
- Gill1408 (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely hotel very quiet staff on reception and bar very friendly and professional nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was very tasty and high quality
- Ruth290 (10/5): Pre Xmas trip - We stayed in room 214. Not a large room but perfectly clean and adequate. Very quiet ...we slept well all 3 nights. Could have done with a bathmat to prevent wet floor in bathroom. A good selection at breakfast although coffee and juice not the best. Lovely and clean bar/restaurant area and staff very friendly. On the basic side but fine for a city break.
Local area is also very good with a wide range of cafes, restaurants and independent shops. Easy walk back onto Royal Mile.
What set this out as excellent was my partner left a pair of trousers and wallet in the room when we checked out. He called en route back to the hotel and they retrieved the items and had them waiting for him to collect at reception. It meant we didn't miss our train home. They were very efficient.
- L7092FEjoew (2/5): Mary King's Close....Real-life Version - My mum fell ill and went home after staying at the Travelodge for four days during the New Year period...
My mum finished half a bottle Dettol kill 99,9%spray used in this room...
Carpet small, and came from the washbasin when I brushed my teeth..
Thank you to the Travelodge for giving my family an UNFORGETTABLE...New Year...
- gemmawI4620HU (4/5): Nice staff, but poor experience - Breakfast was cold. Bacon and sausages were warm and tasty but eggs and mushrooms and pancakes were cold. Unappetising. Pancakes were also dry. Couldn't find fruit.
Other guests creating noise, the doors bang loudly at midnight and loud talking heard from corridors (not the fault of the hotel but other hotels I've stayed at have specifically told guests to be quiet after 10 or 11pm upon arrival) Windows need a lot of work, there was even a draught so I had to turn radiator on high to feel warm again. Bathroom soap is antibacterial but made my eczema very sore and dry, burning pain. The mat or whatever it was on the bottom of the bath looked old and dirty. Weird smell in room that I managed to cover with my own perfume.....
Cannot fault the staff at all. Staff were friendly enough. But the hotel definitely needs renovated or maintenance on those rooms, or at least the one i was in.
- X3785ETchristineh (10/5): Excellent Hotel - I have stayed in many hotels , this was the least expensive and yet one of the best. Excellent location, very clean, warm, quiet, friendly staff, lovely bar open late. Do not hesitate to book.
- hazelhG6102CQ (10/5): Edinburgh 2025 - Friendly hotel which is only few minutes walk to Royal Mile and Princess Street. Hotel is clean and rooms are spacious and airy. Have stayed here several times due to location
- L6258LCelizabethm (10/5): Edinburgh at Xmas - All staff were friendly & helpful. My 2 Grandsons & I checked in early & checked out late. Our room was very spacious, warm & comfortable beds. Rooms were spotless. We drove from Glasgow & Travelodge was easy to access from drop off. Breakfast was great with excellent choice, we ate one night in hotel which was lovely too. Our room was on 4rth floor. No noise at all. Would recommend staying at Travelodge. Really enjoyed our stay, our trip to Edinburgh at Xmas time was great.
- Traveler666781 (10/5): Edinburgh theatre weekend - One night stay for theatre visit with friend and 2 daughters. Staff really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful regarding places to visit and dine. Room clean and pleasant. Manager took the time to ask about our stay when checking out. Would definitely stay again.
- L8119FOpetert (10/5): Hotel .. - Me and my friend had a fabulous time at travelodge.. (Edinburgh)... staff were amazing.. we didn't have breakfast.. but it looked great.... bedding was spotless.. but pillows need covers as mine was stained
- mandyk7 (10/5): Happy stay in Edinburgh - It was a comfortable and quiet hotel and had everything we needed. Very happy with our stay and we shall definitely return
- millie-1971 (6/5): Basic room - For a 1 night stay this basic room was fine. It wasn't cleaned that well, the bedsheets had stains on and the room smelt of BO upon entering which I think is why the windows were left open when we arrived to the room. Lady at reception was very friendly, and for a 1 night to just sleep in the room it was okay. Good location on the mile and in the old town.
- martamU7265QW (4/5): Great location - moulded shower! - We stayed in room 106 and we recommend to AVOID it. It's located on the first floor street-facing so it was noisy throughout the night. The worst was bathroom and the shower in particular with thick mold in several places - DISGUSTING! š¤¢
- Inspire48788323450 (10/5): Excellent location and value for money. - The location was great only a minute off the Royal Mile. The room was a decent size and spotless. We were on the side next to a road but noise wasn't an issue. The restaurant was great value with a decent selection of food and drink, it also had a nice atmosphere and the service was good. We would definitely stay there again.
- swoodward18 (10/5): Pleasantly surprised! - Myself and my husband stayed here for the Christmas markets and was pleasantly surprised at how clean and noise free this hotel was, triple glazing and black out curtains also mixed with the famous mattress equals wonderful disturbed sleep. Staff were friendly and attentive, being very central to the old town on the royal mile I was expecting lots of noise but no happy days!! Parking is extra and first come basis so we opted to use the quark onimo car park about a 10 minute walk away but as the hotel states on their website you get a discount with the code provided and itās quite handsome we parked for 26 hours for Ā£22 itās also a very clean and secure car park which is anpr and QR code in and out so no undesirables. Over all fantastic experience and will definitely use this lodge again thank you.
- T7755WKhelenr (10/5): Excellent service - We arrived 1 hour early for check in and whilst there is no luggage storage the reception colleague offered us storage opposite at a different business or to wait in the cafe bar and offered drinks then checked us in as soon as she could
- Sightsee696158 (8/5): Just Very Easy - Easy to book, clean tidy, reasonably priced Hotel in Central Edinburgh, no fuss, no hassle, paid extra GBP15 for a midday check-in which worked perfectly for me. A 8-10 min walk from Waverly Train Station through charming "Royal Mile" Central Edinburgh. Lots of Resturants, Bars, Coffee shops outside the Hotel entrance. Could not have been more convenient.
- seonaideb2025 (8/5): Christmas - Was a nice clean room we come every year but was disappointed this year.Yoy wouldn't think it was Christmas no atmosphere at all,no tree or decorations up such a shame as all the other hotels were nicely decorated.
- Paradise439262 (4/5): Budget Hotel - but not worth a stay - Budget hotel for a reason:
Room - very small but fine
bathroom - no bath. Could do with an upgrade
Breakfast - bread was frozen, rest of breakfast not great. I would not recommend.
Luggage - not possible to leave it but had to pay across the street in a shop
Location - great for the culture
- dlp2009 (2/5): Not good at all - This has got to be the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.
The rooms are disgustingly dirty the bathrooms are even worse.
The food i would not even feed to a dog.
Yes its a great location 2 minutes off the royal mile but dont let that fool you.
I have got ill and so has my friend because of the lack of cleaning of this place.
The picture is of how i found the bathroom in the second room cause i made them change my room and it was still a mess.
I wish i had just gone back home yesterday.
Dont waste your money. Travelodge i would expect you to refund what was paid for rhe two nights i stayed please.
- delilahblue20 (4/5): Not great - I was initially given the room key to someone else's room. I walked into the room to find someone's belongings open across the bed. As a female solo traveller, this didn't make me feel safe and I wasn't reassured by the receptionist that this was a one-off whatsoever. I could have taken everything from this room if I wanted to, or someone could have been in there. The fact that this can happen is totally unacceptable. I barricaded my door at night and locked all of my stuff up when I was out, because I didn't know if the receptionist's lack of shock meant that this hadn't happened a few times before.
Sadly, the rest of my stay wasn't great. The individual on the front desk during the day was rude and had zero time for a smile. The room I was given (unoccupied by another guest, thankfully), smelled of BO and just didn't feel clean.
There is no luggage storage, so I was given some half-hearted instructions that I had to pay £4 to keep my luggage in a back room of a convenience shop opposite the hotel. There is clearly no safe system here, as when I later went back to collect my luggage, they didn't check that the number on my receipt matched that on my suitcase. I could have taken as many suitcases as I wanted - not safe at all.
The hotel is fine for a couple of nights, where you'll be out exploring this beautiful city, but I won't be recommending you stay here.
- KatherineC499 (6/5): Great location - The location is perfect! So close to the royal mile but a quieter road.
The hotel itself was abit of a let down. Multiple problems with cards getting us in the front door and room doors. No hot water one morning, no water at all by the time we got back later that day. Woke up another morning at 4.40am by the fire alarm, no issue with that if its needed but staff didn't communicate clearly with any of us. Just one lady stood with a bag and a sign telling us to go further up the street. People banging on our door and messing about in the corridors. On the other hand, breakfast was lovely! But probably wouldn't stay again.
- OnAir11778962570 (10/5): Great location - Great stay , great staff . Lovely buffet breakfast with hot and cold choices . Location is ideal for all attractions . Regular buses across the city . Would highly recommend for all travellers , business , solo and families .
- GeorgeD516 (8/5): Well positioned - Nice clean hotel. Worth paying for the meal offers. Only downside was pricr hike due to rugby on. Price was hiked by £100+!
- gdsqq (10/5): Fine venue to explore central Edinburgh on foot (and return for a rest if needed!) furthe afield by bus tram or car etc - Excellent location with convenient car park. Friendly welcoming and helpful staff.
Bar /cafe comfortable with good service. Good size clean rooms . Good value breakfast, maybe could be further enhanced with continental style items , eg ham , cold slices , cheese.
- rowanf384 (10/5): Great Trip - We stayed here for the All blacks rugby match. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was one of the best we have had on our hotel stays. Will definitely be backā¦
- stevecG3251GK (10/5): Well worth staying here. - Lovely clean and tidy hotel with friendly yet professional staff. Well positioned within Edinburgh to do some exploring and on a fairly quiet but accessible road. Excellent breakfasts with a bar for a drink in the evening. Fairly priced and we will certainly stay again. Thoroughly recomended.
- kesw2016 (10/5): Excellent city centre Hotel. - Excellent city centre hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff. Great buffet breakfast and good evening meals in the restaurant, so big shout out to the hardworking kitchen staff.
Room was warm, well maintained, and clean with the bathroom in a similar condition.
Breakfast can be busy so my advice is to get up early and enjoy.
I shall be returning to Edinburgh in the spring and will certainly stay here again.
- Coastal697036 (10/5): Brilliant experience - Brilliant stay, just round corner from Royal mile & Waverley station, so brill location.
Everywhere was clean & breakfast really good, only thing is size of dining room for breakfast is small for size of hotel so if late to breakfast there were queues for tables. Food expensive in pubs etc nearby as we found 1st nite, decided to eat in hotel following nite, husband reluctant he thought menu limited, but I thought give it a go. We had pizza, burger & a pie, all were tasty & great, husband should know to trust a woman š, staff great & half the price than round corner & beyond were charging. If we return would deffo stay again.
- E7217BZls (10/5): 70th Celebration - Clean comfortable hotel, at a great price, in a great location to train station and the Royal Mile. Would definitely stay there again.
- campbellbc123 (10/5): Thank you once again Edinburgh Central Travelodge, You never disappoint and thd staff should be very proud of themselves - We always stay at this travelodge when visiting Edinburgh. why? Great location, friendly and very helpful staff, food and drink are always on point, clean and always tidy, 5* rooms at a great price. Why would we bother risking by going anywhere else, when we get everything we want and need here.
- mariehC544MW (10/5): Travelodge - comfy bed , nice small family room
Breakfast was lovely. Staff were all pleasant and helpful .
easy processs for check in and out .

- jennysA2157NR (10/5): Great stay in Edinburgh. This hotel is in a great location & has access to parking. - Easy walk from Waverly train station.
Hotel is well positioned for the royal mile & lots of lovely bars & restaurants.
Room was light & spacious, plenty storage & sockets.
- J498MSmariae (10/5): Great location. - Great location.
New decor.
Comfortable room with plenty of space for 3 of us.
Shower was nice & hot.
Delicious breakfast.
Friendly staff.
Would definitely recommend.
- V6786TEmichaelb (2/5): Hotel in disrepair. Customer services not interested - When youāre paying nearly Ā£200 a night, you expect a clean, well-maintained hotel ā unfortunately, this one fell far short of that.
Check-in:
Our experience started poorly. We arrived early and asked about checking in, but the staff seemed uninterested, more focused on chatting among themselves and eating a full English breakfast at the reception desk than assisting guests. We asked to leave our rucksacks until check-in time, but again, the staff showed no willingness to help. Iāve stayed in hundreds of hotels and have never encountered such indifference.
Room quality:
We finally checked in at 3 p.m. The first room smelled strongly of damp and stale sweat. I didnāt even unpack and I went straight back to reception. To their credit, the staff changed the room immediately, though they claimed the smell was due to the previous guest rather than poor cleaning. I suggested that the plastic shower curtain might be contributing to the damp odour, but was told (incorrectly) that glass shower screens were āillegal.ā At that point, it was clear there was no interest in a reasonable conversation.
Condition of the hotel:
The corridors are tired, with threadbare and stained carpets. The second room smelled slightly better but was still in poor condition, with stains throughout and clear signs of neglect. The shower area was particularly unpleasant, dirty, mouldy, and smelly and to make matters worse, one of the bath towels had a large hole in it.
After-stay response:
I contacted Travelodge after our stay to raise these concerns. Their response was disappointing: they offered only a £10 breakfast voucher as compensation. When I explained that this was not reasonable given the issues, they refused to offer anything further.
For a hotel charging close to Ā£200 per night, this standard is unacceptable. The property is in desperate need of refurbishment, and customer service training is clearly required. Iām very unlikely to book a Travelodge again after this experience.
- AH2001305 (2/5): Poor staff on reception desk - The staff were terrible, on check in the member of staff on the desk read my room number out loud multiple times as a young sole female this made me incredibly uncomfortable and feel unsafe in my room. Do NOT stay here as a women on your own
- Safari33328078461 (10/5): 10/10 - Delicious breakfast fast service can't complain and one of the servers I think her name was Bobbi was so lovely and kind and was really helpful for anything I asked for
- L1214EWdenisa (10/5): Lovely place to stay - They have lovely and helpful staff, superb breakfast and a conducive environment for relaxation. Would always recommend.
