- Alain (10/5): - In the middle of the pedestrian zone, this place was really nice. Access by car was a bit awkward due to many barriers to access the zone, but once we were in, it was great. Nice (if somewhat dated) amenities in vintage surroundings, gorgeous dining room, excellent breakfast, lots of things to do all around. Very friendly staff. Definitely recommend!

J’ai été déçu par la chambre au vue de la réception de l’hôtel qui combine immeuble ancien et moderne avec les meubles design. Facilité de stationnement avec son parking (un peu cher pour une nuit à 20€). Bon emplacement en plein centre-ville.

Insonorisation pas terrible, j’entendais ronfler mon voisin. Heureusement la literie est bonne et le personnel impeccable.

Réservez le parking en avance - les places sont limitées, mais c’est la meilleure option: dans le cour sécurisé de l’hôtel, dans l’ombre, même si payant - tres bien.

- Christopher (6/5): - I was so impressed with the 10/10 reviews and the huge focus of car parking and breakfast that I booked this hotel; only to find that both of these involved considerable extra payments. Also no bar no restaurant, no air conditioning, and no room service is not 10/10. It would also have been helpful to have been told in advance that the route to the hotel involves more obstacles than the Grand National. There’s a secret passage that is only known to the locals.

La chambre double de luxe est bien spacieuse et surtout équipé d’une literie confortable. Je pense que ça deviendra mon hôtel de référence lors de mes déplacements sur Besançon et alentours.

- Sarah (8/5): - Hôtel central dans les rues marchandes de Besançon. Pratique pour une virée shopping. L'hôtel est correct, petit déjeuner et parking payable en plus. Le parfum d'ambiance de l'hôtel est trop fort à mon goût. Il manquerait une bouteille d'eau par personne dans la chambre. Une fontaine à eau est à disposition devant la réception, cela n'est pas pratique lors de besoin de boire en pleine nuit. L'air est sec et nous n'avons pas pu ouvrir la fenêtre car elle donnait sur un passage extérieur des clients de l'hôtel (ancienne fenêtre ne pouvant se mettre en imposte). Petit déjeuner continental complet et gourmand à 15 euros par personne.

- Emmélie (4/5): Très décevant ! - Nous sommes revenus dans cet hôtel où nous avions sejournés il y a 2 ou 3 ans et avions été très satisfaits à l'époque d'où notre nouvelle réservation. Mais quelle dégringolade !! Refus de place de parking alors qu'il y en a toujours eu de libres (même tard dans la nuit), accueil téléphonique puis une fois sur place très peu aimable. On se dit qu'une fois à notre chambre, on retrouvera ce que nous avions apprécié : que nenni ! Chambre mal nettoyée, abîmée : meubles abîmés, miroir fendu, douches avec joints sales et vetustes donc ne jouant plus leur rôle... Quand nous avons été gentiment le faire noter à la réception au moins pour le dangereux du miroir, la même dame peu aimable nous a dit que "c'est comme ça, ils vont faire des travaux plus tard"... certes... et même pas une excuse... A noter que nous avions une chambre rez de chaussée qui donne sur le parking : cela a été bruyant toute la nuit (bruits des voitures et moto, discussions), et l'odeur des cigarettes fumées au niveau de la coursive rentre dans la chambre... très désagréable. Si cela ne suffisait pas et qui est pour un hôtel de ce standing assez honteux et ne peut se justifier, le lendemain lorsque nous prenions notre petit déjeuner en extérieur, des vêtements qui sèchent aux gardes corps des fenêtres... La literie est toujours en revanche de bonne qualité & le petit déjeuner bien qu'un peu trop onéreux est toujours assez satisfaisant (il a cependant lui aussi baissé de gamme depuis notre précédente visite)
- BIRGIT (8/5): Sehr komfortables Zimmer in zentraler Lage - Schönes Hotel mitten in der Altstadt von Besancon. Parken am Hotel war ausgebucht also mussten wir weiter weg parken, war zumindest billiger als am Hotel. Frühstück war OK. Gutes, grosses Badezimmer. Sehr bequemes, grosses Bett.

Breakfast was expensive so we didn’t book it and went to a bakery across the street for amazingly fresh tasty pastry and freshly made tea and coffee for half the price of breakfast in the hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely will stay again.

- anthony (10/5): A model for others to follow - I requested a step-through shower and I got it. The room was spacious by European standards. AARP would approve of the room appointments with room to move about, grab bars in the shower and by the raised toilet. A great buffet breakfast which helped me gain a few pounds.
- Joseph (10/5): A Worthy Selection - This is a very nice hotel located perfectly and centrally to restaurants, arts offerings, cathedrals and churches and shopping. The staff was terrific. They spoke English very well, but what I liked was their patience with letting me speak my French because I wanted to keep improving my French. Sometimes staff and merchants will switch to English, not out of being offended by the imperfection of ones use of their language, but out of a sense of being helpful and/or efficient and clarity of communication. The staff was also very helpful in arranging cabs, recommending restaurant areas, etc. The hotel room was very comfortable, including easily controlled temperature levels, and clean. The cleanliness and orderliness of the room was kept that way daily by the friendly housekeeping service. One small thing: hallway carpets seemed a bit stained in place, as if there had been a water leak, but the carpets were clean. I would absolutely recommend this property. I even liked its funky modern decor of the lobby.

- Heather (8/5): En route to the Alps - A very pleasant hotel in the centre of Besancon. We had an email from the hotel staff warning us that it may be difficult to get into the the city centre later in rhe afternoon , due to July 14th celebrations. Very thoughtful; very helpful. Our room on the second floor was compact, as was the en suite shower room. However, the hair dryer was excellent! The outside seating area, where breakfast could be taken in the rear courtyard was very pleasant though sadly there was no drinks service during the day. The car park is very tight if you have a large car.

We were on a trip to see our daughter who is attending school in Besancon, and the location was great for the town.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - The location is amazing and the looby looks cool but the room we had was a tiny little room (and teeny weeny bathroom) you could only just walk round the bed. Plus the room was terribly hot and on telling staff we were first told one of the air vents was broken but then further told the AC wasn't available yet as it was shoulder season, which in 25-28 degrees C meant sleepless nights. A shame because the location and look were great just practicalities not ideal in the visit we had.

- Gerald (10/5): Back to Besancon - Coming from the US, our stay at Hotel de Paris was simply amazing. From the friendly front desk staff, through the housekeepers, to the excellent amenities and futuristic bathrooms. It was a blast at very affordable prices. Oh, and did I tell you it's located on the main street in the heart of town and the business center? Two days of pure shopping bliss within ten steps of the hotel. My wife and I had visited last year and enjoyed our stay so much that we decided to return with some family and friends. We are already planning for our next visit to this city and hotel.

- Miki (6/5): Bitter taste - The hotel itself is reasonably good comfortable and has a convenient location in the middle of town. Our experience was marred by first impressions. We had driven for 7 hours from Italy and had booked parking beforehand as parking is limited. When we finally got to the hotel after going around the town several times, there was no parking available. We came across an extremely rude local man(hotel client) who would not let us park in the last available space. The hotel staff, I must add were very helpful in this situation and sorted the parking issue by late evening. Sadly, we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths,which affected our 1 day stay in Besancon.
- Caron (8/5): Wonderful and peaceful hotel - The Hotel de Paris in Besancon is one of the quietest I have stayed in. The rooms face the courtyard and there is very little traffic in the old part of town so very pedestrian friendly. Wonderful cafes and restaurants on average 5 minutes walk from the hotel so lots of choices for dinner. Things to do: visit the Museum of Time as Besancon was known for clock and watchmaking, the Citadel has numerous museums and a zoo so perfect for families. If you like Peugeots then a short train ride to Sochaux will take you to the Peugeot Museum which is well worth a visit. Overall I highly recommend The Hotel de Paris and Besancon

- ERICA (10/5): marvelous hotel, welcoming staff - Wonderful hotel right in the heart of downtown. Our room was incredible--Houssmannian style, perfectly decorated with a lovely bath and shower and huge bed. Definitely recommended!

- Robert (8/5): Good Location - Very good location able to walk out of the Hotel lobby straight into the largely pedestrianised town with all it's shops cafes bars & of course the Citadel which is easily walk able best in the early part of the day as it gets hotter in the afternoon
- Michael (8/5): Nice Hotel in excellent location. - Fabulous location with some lovely restaurants and plenty to see and do. Area difficult to navigate by car. Staff generally polite and helpful. Lovely receptionist on duty on arrival - less helpful male on checkout. Rooms lovely (upgraded on arrival). Would stay again.

- Peter (10/5): - FYI, there is limited parking for this property. Didn’t see that on the listing. However, if you’re traveling light, there are three public garages nearby.
- Ed (6/5): - Good location in the center of Besancon. No on-site restaurant but there are several good ones (Restaurant 1802 especially) within walking distance. Breakfast offerings OK, in nice dining room, and better than to be found on the street. Reserve parking ahead.

- Mark (10/5): Brilliant hotel, right in the centre of Besancon - Brilliant hotel, situated right in the centre of Besancon, staff are friendly, rooms are very clean, bed is extremely comfortable and breakfast excellent. One point to note, the hotel resides within the inner city limits, if you want to drop bags at the hotel you have to "buzz" through via city intercom to get through the barriers but it's very straight forward. Also ring ahead and ask to reserve a car park space, there is a secure city car park only 5mins walk away though.
- Belinda (10/5): Besancon Hotel - Hotel was great and as described in listing. All was great! One thing that we couldn't know was the day we arrived there was a parade in town and so it was a bit difficult to check into hotel because the parade wound around the hotel! But that was beyond the hotel's control for sure and simply added to our travel adventure! The courtyard of hotel was great!

- Sarah (8/5): Lovely hotel in the heart of Besancon - Located in the heart of Besancon, this hotel has been welcoming travellers for centuries. It started out as a coaching inn and, in the early 20th century, played host to a whole bevy of famous visitors, most notable the French author Colette. However, recent redecoration means that the hotel now blends a historic shell with a very up to date interior (tending towards dark wood and large flock-velvet patterns). My room was very comfortable with everything I needed - I only came back to sleep, as I was on business. The buffet breakfasts have plenty to choose from, although they are not included in the room price, and service was generally polite and friendly. The staff speak beautiful English, which was a relief! - and they're more than happy to suggest sights and restaurants in the vicinity. Perfectly placed to enjoy this picturesque Burgundian town.

- Emma (8/5): Cool, quiet, comfortable. - Really friendly staff and a gorgeous room. Huge bed and a little balcony, with lovely views. The room was cool, quiet and comfortable. Great shower. Nice toiletries. The receptionist recommended some restaurants, and a busy street to go to. Unfortunately, two of the restaurants were closed and the third was full, so we went to another location which he'd recommended. It was gorgeous, and a beautiful evening, but outdated info isn't a great look for a hotel. We parked at the hotel - was good to know the car was safely in a gated car park. Should we have reason to go back, we would definitely revisit this hotel, but it is not enough in itself to make me want to go back there.

Colette slept here! - Outstanding hotel, located in an older building that's completely remodeled inside, ultra-modern, but with charming touches - a patio court for outdoor breakfast, leaded-window breakfast room for indoor eating, parking in enclosed court for about 20+ cars. Main floor rooms have individual entrances, like a motel, that open onto the courtyard. This is where we stayed, with our car just outside the room. So convenient. (Be sure to email/call ahead to reserve your paid, but inexpensive, on-site parking spot!!!) Rest of rooms are upstairs, accessible by elevator, on 1-2 more levels. Notes: the AC works great, AND there is a window in the door that opens for fresh air. No bath, but nice large glass shower, large bathroom. Exceptionally clean, and nice bedding. Good, firm mattress. This building is in the exact center of the old town, a highly walkable area with museums, shops and great little restaurants. The woman at the front desk recommended some great ones to us. (We loved "The Pension," with a small but perfect selection of local French faire. Best lamb shanks we've ever had.) Highly recommend the Hotel de Paris! And Besancon itself is a beautiful little town with interesting things to see and do.
