Guest Reviews
- RosieJus (10/5): Very helpful staff, great location - A fantastic central location at a reasonable price. Extremely helpful staff: Fiona and Martina.
I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Edinburgh.
- 634sengaw (10/5): Excellent - Rooms immaculately clean, friendly staff.
Excellent customer service
- kazuhak2026 (10/5): Thank you so much! Martina was wonderful! So kind and helpful:) good location - Thank you so much! Martina was wonderful! So kind and helpful:) good locations ロケーションがバッチリで使いやすかったです。ありがとう
- johnpM5645EW (10/5): Travel lodge experience - Location was perfect, Paulo recommended the front view room and it was amazing! Room was clean and tidy with a large bed, great for value! Customer service especially from Paulo was immaculate! Give him a raise immediately! Friendly, kind and caring. Clean towels and body wash are available in the room as well as a kettle. Noise level was minimal and window opens partially, everything is awsome! Especially Paulo!
- Wander68478238289 (10/5): Great service from PAULO!! - Paulo had great hospitality! Very nice guy, and welcoming as soon as we stepped into the hotel! I recommend staying at travelodge for the service and the room cleanliness! Five stars from me! Thank you!
- Curiosity401352 (10/5): Fiona & Amy are AMAZING!!! - Fiona & Amy at reception were so so lovely! The best staff to have on reception. They deserve alot of credit.
Room was clean and had everything we needed!
- Cruiser29030302865 (8/5): Birthday visit - Stayed here for 1 night for a birthday. . Our room was fine … all clean & smelt good
- JT22 (10/5): Fantastic location & great service - I stayed with my two children - we loved the location near St James Quarter. The family room was great with a double and two single beds.
My son left some things in the room at checkout and Martina on reception was super helpful at finding them and keeping them until we were able to return. Thank you so much Martina!!
- peterwN4909AH (2/5): RUDE WOMAN!!!!!! - My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. When we arrived late we were checked in by the very rude woman on reception named Carol. She was incredibly rude to us and we did not feel welcome at all. After receiving our room card we then entered our room only to find the bathroom smelt of sewage water and flooded all over the floor. The window barely opened and there was no ac in the room, just a fan that was covered in dust under the table. The only good thing about the hotel was the location however stepping outside there is a lose tile in the pavement which caused my wife to twist her ankle badly. On the final night our room card wouldn’t work and we waited 10 minutes at reception whilst carol was sat outside smoking instead of working. She then came back in spluttering everywhere. We then requested a new key card for her to say “you’re gone tomorrow anyway”. We were both in such shock at how rude this woman was and will not be returning. She needs adequate training on customer service and making guests feel welcome.
- owyzr (10/5): First time in Edinburgh - Great stay in a beautiful city central to everything, staff attentiveness is fab and very welcoming on arrival.
- Athu567 (2/5): Awful experience - I am extremely disappointed and concerned about my recent stay.
Firstly, the bathroom had a continuous leakage issue. Yellow water kept coming back into the toilet even after flushing multiple times. This was highly unhygienic and unacceptable.
On one particular day, we left the room at 6:00 AM and returned around 7:00 PM. When we came back, the bathroom clearly appeared to have been used. There was steam/fog as if hot water had been used, and the toilet again had yellow water inside. This raised serious concerns that someone had entered our room and used the washroom.
When we reported this to reception, they denied that anyone had entered the room. I requested them to check the CCTV footage to confirm whether someone accessed our room, but there was no proper response or investigation shown at that time.
This is not just a hygiene issue – it is a serious security and privacy breach. As guests, we expect safety and privacy during our stay. The fact that someone may have entered our room without our knowledge is extremely alarming.
In addition to this, the room was very small compared to what was advertised, and we repeatedly faced issues with the key card not working. Every time we returned to the hotel, we had to go back to reception to reactivate it.
Overall, this stay was completely not worth the money, and I am highly disappointed with the service.
- NerakNavorp (8/5): Give this Travelodge a try - Great wee hotel. Staff very friendly. Room clean, tidy and very quiet due to the positioning and bed was comfortable. In an excellent part of Edinburgh for sightseeing, shopping & restaurants. Only downside was the charger ports either side of the bed didn't work but no hassle to use the plug sockets. Will definitely use this Travelodge again
- Wee-yin05 (8/5): Central, Clean - Clean, Comfy and central to Princes Street, Waverley station. Playhouse.
Breakfast is only cereal in your room. Tea and coffee in room
- Adakunzor (8/5): Cosy and clean - The room was cosy and clean. Friendly and willing to help staff but there’s a 20:00pm curfew and no cooked breakfast. Overall, it’s a great place to stay.
- guestt2026 (2/5): SAVE YOUR MONEY, AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS - HORRIBLE STAY, AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Expensive stay where we were sent to lower ground- 3 floors down into what was basically a room in a dungeon. As MANY other reviews have stated the rooms are drab with mouldy unclean windows, a very bad smell of sewerage coming up thought the drains in the bathroom. Windows can't be opened to air the room out, heating can't be adjusted if too hot/cold as locked. No room service or cleaning done in five nights stay even though sign was put out before 11am as requested by reception, had to constantly go to reception for toilet rolls, clean towels, bins emptied, tea/coffee ect... Not acceptable especially when using the so called accessible rooms!! Toilet doesn't flush properly so have to wait over half an hour before it can be flushed again, TV remote was faulty as was the TV which kept crashing, extra pillows were dirty before we had chance to use them! One lift broken so took ages to get anywhere, miserable reception staff most of the time. Several bugs in room probably due to no cleaning and/or smell. Were told to use our card to access building after 8pm as doors are locked for security- doors were still open after 10pm and the door into where the lift/rooms are was also left open so where is the security for your guests???
WE WILL NEVER USE THIS HOTEL AGAIN AND WOULD RECOMMEND OTHER PEOPLE NOT TO BOTHER EITHER .
- d0menic0ci0tti (10/5): Nice stay in this Hotel - Quite place and kind stuff. Hotel near the center by walking. I really appreciate my vacation in Edimburgh. Beedrooms ok, clean and comfortable.
- 490valerie (10/5): Excellent all round! - I spent one night in this hotel, to make it easier for me to catch an early morning train to London. The location is perfect; a two minute walk from Waverley Station and also in the heart of the city and therefore close to all tourist attractions, for those who are coming here for a city break.
The hotel itself is very well managed; the staff I spoke to were very welcoming and friendly and eager to help with anything I needed.
My room was very comfortable and warm; good shower, comfy bed, spacious …you couldn’t ask for any more for the price. Excellent value for money. Excellent experience all round.
- G481GYsharonh (10/5): Edinburgh Waterloo Central - Excellent location, comfortable room. Has everything we required for our mini break.
Claire & Martina at reception were extremely friendly and helpful with any inquires we had.
We will definitely be back.
- brian2eliz (2/5): Won't be back, did travelodge survey and no reply - Inconveniently moved to another hotel on route to accommodation by phone at 8.40 on night of arrival, no appology. Prebooked and Paid 393GBP for substandard accommodation. No phone or WiFi reception in the room, Paid extra for WiFi and it did not work.
Paid for breakfast to go on morning leaving hotel and no one available to give it to us!
Left note on door for towels to be changed before 11am as is the ask and they were never changed.note still on door when we returned that night and towels not changed. Remote control for telly did not work. These are basic requirements in any hotel.
Did travellodge survey and no reply or feedback
- W3563AKpaulk (10/5): You get what you pay for - The old saying you get what you pay for couldn’t be any truer for this hotel.
Yes it was much cheaper than even Premier Inns. And it was in a very central location to the station. And the room was clean (ish) and was really only used to sleep.
Our room was small, not cosy, it was small. The floor squeaked like crazy but as we were top floor only people underneath would have been inconvenienced by that.
The toilet was the smallest toilet I have ever seen, very lower to the ground which for the taller chap was pretty impractical.
It had old sash windows on the outside with secondary sliding glazing on the inside.
The sash windows was full of mould as shown in the photo and were incredibly wet all the time.
The bathroom fan didn’t work in the room which contributed to the problem.
The TV was bizarre with about 75 channels to choose from but you could get about 4!!!
That all being said, it served a purpose for our short stay.
Would I use again, 100% no. I would pay more regardless.
Sorry Travelodge but you must do better
- Jadedonn26 (10/5): Trip is to Edinburgh - 10/10 would stay again room309 was great nice and clean just a loud buzzing noise coming from the heater
- VincenzoVo (8/5): Travellodge - Edinburgh - You need to implement the luggage storage serThe hotel is located in the historic center of Edinburgh, near Princess Street and surrounded by many shops, bars, and restaurants.
The reception staff is friendly and efficient. The rooms are comfortable, well-equipped, and the beds are very comfortable.
One negative point is that the hotel does not offer luggage storage, a service that every hotel should provide.
We did not have breakfast.
- debbiesI938PA (4/5): Dissapointed - We arrived and reception staff very pleasant.
Up to the first floor to our room.
When I say “room” it was very very small.
Unable to place our small suitcases anywhere and was very disappointed. Unable to hang clothing due to the hanging space being directly over the table.
The view from the window looked directly across to another tall building and we was unable to leave curtains open due to people in the building facing. When I say facing “ a few yards away”
.
Having always tried to use Travel lodge for our short breaks, I did go down to reception to ask if we could be moved, but told the hotel was full.
The space was not adequate and I suggest you turn it back into broom and cleaning storage. Cuboard.
- ljoxo (6/5): No bag storage - Only reason we stayed here was for the location and slightly cheaper than the premier inn. Be warned though, they won’t store your luggage until check in. They send you back to the station to store it there or charge you £15 to check in early. Vending machine was out of order. Staff were lovely though
- Quest31695197446 (10/5): Excellent Travelodge in the centre of Edinburgh. - Central Waterloo Place is the ideal location. Close to public transport hubs for railway and bus. A friendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door to reception. Spacious rooms kept to a high standard of cleanliness. Well worth the money particularly if you don't need to stay over the weekend.
Finally, a special thanks to Paulo for all his help and friendly greetings. Very much appreciated.👍
- Itsignora (8/5): Central location - We stayed at the Travelodge in central Edinburgh during the week and paid £105, which included early check-in (£15). The location is excellent — right beside St James Quarter shopping centre, close to the Omni Centre, and just a short walk to Princes Street, Rose Street, and George Street. Perfect for shopping, dining, and exploring the city.
After 8pm, the main door is secured, which is a positive safety feature. We stayed in a family room with one double bed and two singles. The room was typical of Travelodge standards — basic but functional — though we felt the cleanliness could have been a bit better. The bathrooms, in particular, could do with an upgrade. Despite being so central, the hotel was surprisingly quiet at night.
Staff were friendly and helpful, and there’s a vending machine in reception for drinks and snacks. Overall, it’s good value for money and very convenient for a central Edinburgh stay, though there’s room for improvement in cleanliness and bathroom updates.
- ionac2018 (10/5): perfect location - Stayed here for the Samhuinn fire festival. The room was cosy, quiet and clean. I want to say thank you to Paulo! I had an issue with the shower and sink, Paulo moved me room without any issue and I appreciated that, a very pleasant person 😊
I'd definitely come back to this Travelodge in the future. Also I didn't need to check out until 12 at no extra cost, I wish all hotels did this 😍
- 996fernandesf (10/5): Edinburgh Central Waterloo Place! - Great stay at Travelodge Edinburgh Central Waterloo Place!
Clean room, perfect location near Waverley Station, and very friendly staff.
Special thanks to Martina for her help and great communication, she made everything easy.
- nlflynn13 (4/5): Stars go to the staff but nothing else. - I feel horrible giving such a low review because the staff is so amazing. Every single staff memeber that we interacted with was FANTASTIC. They all deserve raises. Now, the hotel itself really could use some maintenance. I felt like the upkeep was not well done, and perhaps it's the age of the building but everything felt a bit like it was falling apart. We had a joke that we might wake up in someone else's room due to falling through the floor. I was also shocked that there is no free wifi. Honestly, and again I feel horrible saying this, but I would not recommend staying here.
- hannahpN8075AB (10/5): A lovely warm welcome from Fiona & Amanda :) - A great and convenient location just a few minutes walk to Edinburgh train station with a clean and comfortable room. I had a lovely warm welcome from Fiona and Amanda on the desk too! They were so helpful in advising me of the hotel information and were both happy and friendly faces to be greeted by. A credit to the company, thank you both :)
- Compass594270 (2/5): DON'T - Drunks in the doorway...surly staff...no bag-drop before check-in...wifi has to be paid for...room underground and very noisy. Stay somewhere else.
- carolans69 (8/5): Great location but very pricey for a Travelodge and no luggage storage - The Pros
Location
Newly rennovated room
Comfy bed and bedding
Large spacious room
View onto Princes Street
Great curtains for a dark room for sleeping
The Cons
Very pricey for a Travelodge for 1 night
They do not have a luggage storing facility- although if you pay £15 for early check-in in you can take it to your room. This was my biggest gripe. I paid an extortionate amount yet we were directed to luggage storage at Waverly staiton or early check in - get a grip.
- 824craigm824 (6/5): Great Location, average facilties - Staff and location were great however its very basic especially for the money paid. The room was not cleaned nor fresh towels supplied. There was no iron, hairdryer or telephone in the room and the room was very hot with a basic fan supplied.
- TB37865 (10/5): Weathered the storm - Part of our bus tour was cancelled due to weather. We scrambled finding a place that could accommodate us for a few days. The clerk, Michaela was friendly and funny and very welcoming. The staff were also very friendly and accommodating. The room was sufficient with a large bed and the hotel was continently located.
- Jdillin (2/5): Very dissapointing - Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Price
We recently stayed at this Travelodge for 2 nights and were very disappointed with the overall experience, especially given the rate of £200 per night.
While the room and bathroom were clean, however the positives unfortunately ended there. The hot water in bathroom was barely warm, internet was impossible to access, The bed was noisy and the pillows were very firm, making it difficult to get a comfortable night’s sleep. The room had two windows, but one did not open and the other only opened an inch at the bottom, leaving the room feeling uncomfortably warm and stuffy.
The windows were very dirty with peeling paint on the frames.
Breakfast, charged at £6 per person, consisted of a small cardboard box containing a small portion of cornflakes with milk, a croissant, an oat bar, and a tiny bottle of water. With only one chair provided for two guests, we had to take turns eating, which was quite inconvenient.
The room also lacked bedside tables, leaving us without a place to keep a drink, phone, or watch nearby.
Perhaps the most disappointing aspect was the lack of luggage storage after checkout. With checkout at 12:00 and our train not departing until 16:30, we had to pay an additional £20 to store our bags at the train station for just a few hours.
Overall, this stay did not meet our expectations in terms of comfort, value, or convenience. We do not plan to stay with Travelodge again and would not recommend this property to other travellers.
- 142shirleye (4/5): I don't recommend this place - Dirty toilet, noisy inside and outside of the hotel, uncomfortable beds. The only one thing I can say it is the location.
- Hollsandbreaks (6/5): No luggage storage - We arrived 1 hour early and if our room wasn’t ready we expected to be able to leave our luggage. Disappointingly we were told this wouldn’t be possible……..unless we paid £15 for early check in (so rooms were available). I said I’d rather pop next door to the Waterloo tavern and spend that money on drinks, which we did.
The rest of the hotel is what you’d expect from a Travelodge - perfectly adequate if rather expensive (Edinburgh hotels always seems overpriced).
- 631anniep (10/5): Great location, lovely staff! - Hotel was in a great location but not noisy at night, it was clean, our room was great, staff were very friendly and really helpful.
- amyrobb0 (10/5): Amazing hotel, perfect location! - Absolutely lovely Travelodge. Situated right in the centre of town and close to Waverley station, it was super clean and all the staff were lovely and really helpful. The hotel is relatively basic but has everything you need for staying and exploring the city.
- ep772025 (10/5): Very clean and quiet. - Great Hotel room was very clean, also bathroom. Very quiet outside had a great sleep. Would definitely stay again.
- Barnkent (2/5): Terrible hotel. Avoid. - You will be greeted at a very scruffy reception area, its’s dirty and has unwelcoming handmade signs stuck around the place. Rooms are very basic, scuffed paint, dusty surfaces, nasty harsh LED lighting, tiny TV. My favourite bits are the smell of damp, caused by the secondary glazed window that wont open so has condensation and mould in it, and the door closers on the corridor that slam the fire doors shut each time someone passes through, helpfully right outside the room. No maintenance available to adjust it apparently. A new low for me in respect of budget hotels, but hold on you too can experience the same terrible hotel for £180 a night!! Complete rip off for such a low quality hotel. Beat avoided.
- EmmelineLondon (2/5): Don't stay in 118. Ask for a different room. - Reception staff lovely. But room 118 was awful. Down the very end with almost no natural light just a view of a wall a foot away and full of pigeons and pigeon poo. I booked last minute but for £150 including the dog, I thought it was dreadful.
- M6143JTmonicad (8/5): Great staff - We (a family of 3) stayed at the Travelodge at the Edinburgh Central, Waterloo Place for 3 nights. We stayed in a small, twin room with a double bed and a single bed at the end of the room for our son. The room was quite dark & narrow, & the bathroom was a tiny box room - BUT it was clean, and we were provided with a bath towel for each of us, and the soap dispensers (shower cubicle and sink) were topped up as well as the toilet rolls. The floorboards were creaky in both the bedroom and the bathroom, but to us, that was just a small issue. We were happy with the cleaning service, & one gentleman (who was cleaning the opposite room as we made our way out of ours on our final morning) greeted us with a smile & wished us a good morning.
The staff at the hotel were great - very welcoming, polite & friendly & were happy to help if we needed anything. The receptionists also gave us a map of the city (when we checked in), recommendations as to where to go during our stay, & suggestions on where to go during our next visit. They also showed respect to our 8 year old son by involving him in our conversations e.g. asking him if he slept well, asking him about the Military Tattoo, and having a conversation about bagpipes with him. If anyone is considering staying here, don’t expect a spacious room. However, you will get great service by the staff.
- NathalieL3201 (2/5): If I could put a 0 I would - No climatisation, room so small, no place to open luggage, sooooo hot, bathroom stink, hard to find because the sign was really small, carpet was dirty in the room and in the hallways……
- glennaV9621LY (4/5): Poor - We booked this hotel for going to the tattoo. 1st thing that caught us was we ordered breakfast and found out it was a box with warm milk. They don't have a breakfast area. 2ñd we arrived with our bags early as our flight into Edinburgh was early 11am they wouldn't take our bags we had a family of 2adults 2 kids so had to carry our bags around the city for 4 hours. Then got into our room to find we had 30mins free wifi joke. We were down in a basement room and the room was very dark with the windows looking out onto a wall 2 foot away we had no reception for our phones. TBF when I asked they give us a code for free wifi...breakfast awful 4 boxes with cereal and warm milk and water.
Hotel is central ok and handy but would deff not recommend for August prise was so expensive due to the fringe and tattoo.
- AndreP1264 (4/5): Very small room at a very noisy street - Small room, very warm so we had to keep the windows open. Horrible street noise all night long. Room was not cleaned, they only delivered new towels. Very expensive during Fringe Festival in August.
- fionat601 (6/5): Narrow beds - Great location for festival and city centre. Helpful reception staff.
On the negative side - room 302 has excessively creaky floorboards over most of the main area. The twin beds are way too narrow - we are average sized people but very nearly fell out of bed on occasion. Also there is almost no storage, so one of us had to live out of a suitcase for a week. Insufficient hooks or places to hang wet towels.
- 150bexf (6/5): Perfect location but room was not the best - The reception staff Claire and Paige were so lovely and friendly. The location is perfect literally a 2 minute walk from the station. We paid £300 for the room as we were attending the oasis gig which was ridiculous prices. The room we got was on the front and surprisingly we didn’t hear any traffic through the windows. The disappointing thing about the room was the mirror was near the bathroom and not above the dressing table so it was hard to get ready. Also the curtains were blackout but didn’t fit the windows properly so I had to tuck them in somehow to stop it waking us up at the crack of dawn.
- nevbroaddragon (6/5): Nice hotel - Well located pleasant hotel, convenient for Waverley station. Shame that wifi could not be accessed even after paying extra!
- NigelLouise (2/5): Very expensive for what was provided - We stayed for 3 nights, and paid over £700 this did not include breakfast. Neither did our bed get made up.
- Culture50268968351 (8/5): Central and Convenient - Waterloo Place Travelodge is within walking distance of many places in Central Edinburgh and close to major bus routes. The staff are helpful. Unlike some other Travelodges, it does not serve food, other than a basic breakfast in a box. Rooms at the front enjoy good views, but are noisy. If you are a light sleeper, the back, which does not have a view, may be better.
- blanche1955 (2/5): Appalling Customer Service - As just advised , extras paid for , not received and unhelpful reception staff
I booked this for my grandaughter, along with 2 extras , early check in and breakfast , no one was there on arrival and they had to sit and wait, they checked in and reception never advised about the breakfast do they thought they didn’t have it included , on checkout they asked if they could leave there luggage whilst they went for breakfast and were told No !
Customer Service at its worst !
- bjkelly2025 (10/5): Welcoming. - Our first time staying at a Travelodge and so a whole new experience. From the initial welcome at arrival right through the stay the staff were so friendly and they made you feel welcomed. The room was clean, a decent size and ideal for the stay.
- janicemU4020ZQ (10/5): Staff friendly and helpful - Central location near the railway station. Clair on reception was very helpful as were all the staff we spoke to. Loved the breakfast on the go.
- Excursion21722010118 (10/5): Tour Endingburh - Very comfortable . Hotel. Fair price. Just in the heart of the city in Edinburgh. A lot of places to visit and just sit and meet a lot of tourists
- 726oriettal (2/5): Absolutely Horrible – Terrible Service with Racism - This happened when my parents came to visit me in the UK. It was their very first day setting foot in this country, and the hotel arranged for them a room on the lower ground 4 floor — yes, you are hearing me right, LG4, could even call it a dungeon of a dungeon.
When we asked the receptionist if we could change to a higher floor, she firmly claimed there were no available rooms upstairs (her attitude was very arrogant and rude as well). But right after us, two young white women checked in, and we literally saw them pressing the button for an upper floor in the left. We stood there in disbelief.
This is not just a terrible hospitality experience — I felt deeply humiliated and discriminated. At first I was thinking everyone can have a hard time in their life, but this case just won’t stop haunting me and my therapist suggested me to write a review which could make me feel better. I have been heartbroken and furious for a month.
It was supposed to be a warm welcome for my parents, but it turned into a very upsetting moment. It’s hard not to see this as a case of racial bias, even for my parents who are not that sensitive to being discriminated.
To my fellow Asian travelers, especially those from China: please stay alert and cautious if you consider booking this place. I sincerely hope you won’t have to face what we did. And if you ever run into that receptionist, may you check in on a day when that receptionist has a mood that good enough to treat people from other race as a human being.
- IainFTB (10/5): Compact rooms, clean and comfy! - We stayed Friday to Sunday. We were welcomed by Carol on reception who was honestly 5 star she was really helpful friendly and made us instantly feel welcome. Our rooms were on the top floor at the back of the building which meant although we didn’t have a view it was blissfully quiet. Exactly what we needed as we had a busy weekend planned and were only going to be in the rooms to sleep. Both rooms were compact however they were spotlessly clean. The standard basic facilities in the room however it had everything we needed.
The hotel although pricey for a Travelodge the location is excellent.
We didn’t accidentally book the breakfast boxes which to be honest was a mistake. They were not good in fact they were absolutely awful and would avoid these.
The beds were really comfortable and the fans in the room kept the room cool. As we were at back of building we could sleep with the windows open and secondary glazing open apart from the bottle bins being collected early morning it was very quiet.
Ok this is a travelodge so it’s not going to be 5 star luxury accommodation however I felt it definitely delivered on clean comfortable and good value for the location in Edinburgh. All the staff we spoke to were polite and welcoming especially at reception with Carol definitely making our stay excellent.
- davidlennie1951 (4/5): Disappointed stay - Disappointing hotel despite being in an excellent location, the room was very poor with a view of a brick wall and from a safety prospective I was not comfortable
- Roving14769104295 (8/5): Great location - it was ok - The good - the location can’t be beat, 50 metres from Waverley station, close to the Royal Mile, Calton Hill, buses and trams and plenty of shops and restaurants outside, it has been central to everything which has been so handy. The price was steep but for Edinburgh, pretty good for a clean room, comfy bed and great spot. As a solo female traveller it has been safe and I’ve had no issues. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The staff are lovely and really helpful.
The bad - my room didn’t look anything like the photos on the website or other travellers pics, I don’t know what standard of room they gave me but it’s not new. It’s noisy, as I was facing the street, but it quiets down after dark and I didn’t struggle too much with this. The wifi is provided by Virgin and is a separate purchase - it was ok but kept turning itself off - I wasn’t a fan and in this day and age charging for wifi is a rort. The bathroom is small and a bit treacherous - the shower floor is quite slippery and you have to be careful not to slip.
For the price (in comparison to other hotels in Edinburgh) it’s ok - not great, not terrible - adequate.
- simonettaf934 (8/5): Comfortable but minimal - The position was very good, very near all the sites we wanted to visit; we were confortable, but the sensation was of being in a good hostel rather than a hotel. The room was minimal in furnishing but the bed was very comfortable and the room silent. The bathroom and shower weren't exceptional. Nobody came to clean the room during our stay.
- H963DHtarac (10/5): Perfect location from train station and bus route - Spacious room, took a couple of minutes to walk to from Waverley station. We arrived very late (1am) due to train times, reception guy was very welcoming and quick to get us checked in so we could sleep
- chantelleh909 (10/5): Great - Had a wonderful stay would highly recommend the staff members are so friendly and down to earth
Nick was so helpful with information about London and was a funny lad had a lovely conversation with him.
And a great spot as not far at all from Waterloo station walking distance
- Y5411CLjoannea (10/5): Hotel review - Very comfortable stay. Perfect central location. Receptionist very friendly and knowledgeable. 24hr access works well to come and go as you please. Would return to this hotel and to Edinburgh. It's a beautiful city and my new favourite place.
- mmbaker1331 (10/5): Work visit - I was booked into this hotel with work but the booking was mixed up by a work third party. Fortunately for me the two ladies on the front desk were absolutely amazing. They managed to sort me a room out after a long day and can't thank them enough. Thank you Carol and Claire
- maggiemK4727ND (10/5): Perfect base - Great team, location and clean rooms. Perfect base for visiting Edinburgh, literally 5 mins from Waverley Station and central located to bus/trams. Room was clean and comfortable, hairdryer at desk which I borrowed for stay. Fab team who managed to help me out with any questions!
- hartmannd2025 (2/5): Stay in Edinburgh - Very expansive for two nights
Absence of welcome hall
No luggage room and paiement to keep the room 2 hours-
- kristinpH7711TD (2/5): Scam Prices - Do not book at this hotel. They charge unfair rates in advance and do not honor lower prices they offer closer to your stay. Save your money and book somewhere more honest, that has better customer service. I will not be using Travelodge again.
- Tourist305628 (4/5): Pity about the response to WI-FI issues - Would have had much higher score for location, close to centre and clean, comfortable facilities, although a little hot and noisy. Badly let down by response to difficulties with WI-FI connection, which completely stressed everyone out…….
- MrandMrsWinterSun (6/5): Great Location, Filthy Communal Areas - The hotel has a great location in the centre of the city, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We were on -3 and our room had no fresh air and looked out onto bins and a noisy delivery alley. The receptionist was brisk at check in and didn’t make us feel particularly welcome. The communal areas in this hotel are filthy, including the lifts, carpets and hard flooring in the corridors.
- billysung (10/5): Location is good, hotel is clean - Location is good, hotel is clean. No luggage store, no free WiFi. Near train station and a big shopping mall.
- Pioneer25705315344 (8/5): Very good and friendly hotel. - I stayed there for a couple of days and was very happy with my stay.
The rooms are basic, but clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful too.
The hotel is also centraly located with plenty of pubs and eateries around.
I will stay that again for sure.
- melissafY276XB (10/5): Leisure trip to Edinburgh - Me and my friend stayed here for a birthday trip for me and I had no complaints! The room was clean, the bathroom was clean, the whole hotel was clean. The staff were really friendly and said hello every time you came in. It's in a fantastic location only a few minutes from Edinburgh Waverley and the Castle and its right next to the shopping centre. Would recommend staying here to anyone.
- carolinemG3881YV (6/5): OK hotel but no left luggage - Hotel is clean, comfortable and well located. However there is no left luggage facilities and the company they recommend is not good. They advertise radical storage at Waverley station. You need to book online and pay before getting the address. This turned out to be a convenience store about a 10 minute walk away which is not easy with crowds and heavy bags/cases. It also ended up costing £20. If you're hanging around after checkout., this is something you would need to factor in. I feel this should have been made clear when booking. I have travelled quite extensively and have never come across this before.
- 570susanw (10/5): Great wee hotel - Friend had booked an apartment which sadly wasn't acceptable so Travelodge was last minute and 100% better, cleaner, helpful staff and closer to city centre for shops, food, pubs and theatre!
- antjoa (8/5): Great location - One night stay. Needed somewhere dog friendly. Basic but very clean room . Reception staff lovely. Great location minutes walk from Princes st.
- John (6/5): It's an OK experience - Breakfast was very simplistic. Room is clean but feel uncomfortable
- William (8/5): - Hotel in great location from Waverly Station, Central Edinburgh and across the street from where most of tours meet. Room serviced daily. Breakfast was a box meal with corn flakes and a roll
Front Desk helpful.
Room smaller than most other Travelodges I have stayed in but still much bigger than your average London hotel
Only downside was hall subfloor was soft and creaky when people walked on it as was a spot in my room near the desk
- Camilla (10/5): Dejligt sted - Fantastisk hotel .. fantastisk beliggenhed
- Janick (8/5): Good location - It was good, staff is super helpul and friendly.
The room did not have a hairdryer.
- Keith (6/5): Avoidance - Paying for the internet in the room was a 1st I've ever experienced for a 90 pound room rate for my stay. This was a distraction. Can't recall ever having to pay for internet even provided for in the lobby; it's usually free. Plus the sparse continental breakfast of cereal and a stale muffin for an added charge made when booking added to an annoyance. Too many hotels, (all) have free internet, and if an advertised breakfast, it's usually free when it's simply a muffin and cereal that was added to the room rate if you wanted it. I wished the sparse breakfast had been described in the listing to avoid paying more money when I could have saved another 10 or more pounds for the internet and sparse breakfast. Decide for yourself.
- FLÁVIA (8/5): Razoável - Boa localização. Quarto limpo e cama confortável. Banheiro deixa a desejar, com cortinas de plástico. Café da manhã ruim (caixa pronta com os mesmos itens diariamente).
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great for a quick stay! - My husband and I stayed at the Travelodge for a quick night in Edinburgh before taking a train from Waverley in the morning. Very convenient location to the train station and a nice, clean, comfortable room with friendly staff!
- Laurel (2/5): Awful hotel and top price, feel totally ripped off - It was awful. The room was nothing like the picture on website, the room was small, dingy and actually so depressing. The window in the room was so filthy dirty with streaks and splashes of mud on it. We had been travelling for 9 days, all other hotels we booked with Hotels.com were just as advertised, we felt we definitely got good value for our money. But, this hotel was awful. I thought we had been given the wrong room and asked at the desk and was told no, and no other bigger or better room was available. If we had not been leaving first thing in the morning to join a tour directly across the street from this hotel I would have left and tried to find another. The manager was no help either. And the worst of it was it was one of the most expensive hotels we had booked. I paid 345.72 Canadian dollars and it was so substandard it would not rate 145.72.!!!! Will never book with Travelodge again and will inform everyone I know how bad Travelodge is.
- Joshua (8/5): Nice hotel close to the train station - I got off the train walked over to the hotel and checked in. Had dinner at a restaurant 2 doors down and then went back to my room and had a nice sleep and went back to the train station the next morning.
- Steve (8/5): Nice hotel in the city - Very nice but would have liked a fridge as the weather was hot. No extracter in the bathroom. No shower shelf which led to wetting the floor.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great that they stayed open late to let us in when we got in late from the airport!
- Gary (8/5): Convenient located - It's conveniently located near city center and close to a lot of restaurants. Room is small and the bed is okay. Bathroom is tiny and only can have one person in. But if you just need a place to sleep and take a shower this is a good choice.
- Jonothon (4/5): - Great location. Easy checkin. Bathroom/toilet was not cleaned from previous guest and garbage not thrown out. Bed was made.
- Jo Lynne (6/5): A Little Shakey - Room 306 had a weak place in the floor by the desk that needs repair. Also, the room shook at least 3 times while I was awake and possible another as I woke at 3:30 am for some unknown reason.
- Jo Lynne (10/5): Travelodge Edinburgh Waterloo - Alan was a treat at reception. He was super helpful. Room 306 was terrific! It was at the end of the hallway just up from the lifts. This Travelidge is in the perfect location for the train and easy link to the airport. Ranbie's Cafe is across the street for coffe, breakfast and for awesome tours!
- Tjatur (6/5): Hood location - Good location, simple for a short day...
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great No Frills hotel - It's a no frills location. Perfect if you just need a clean comfortable place to rest your head. Unfortunately you only get a half hour of free wifi per 24hrs. After that, you have to pay 3 pounds for 24hrs of internet access, and if you're not consistently using it, it logs you out and you have to sign in again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): OK!! OK!! - OK Types......... Nothing great about it................................................................
