Guest Reviews
- Marianne (9/5): Living life in Dullstroom - The location is very good. Being inside the estate made it quiet and private. The fishermen loved the easy access to the dam. The house is spacious and has most of the amenities one needs in a self catering unit. Cable theft and power outages are a big problem in South Africa. The house needs more rechargeable bulbs, and it would be great if the electrical stove hob was replaced with a gas hob

- Cheryl (8/5): Spacious and well equipped, pet friendly cottage with beautiful views - Location, so peaceful & tranquil while not being far from the village at all. We used the two sharing rooms off the kitchen and not the master bedrooms. The towels were well worn, and the shower heads are very basic.
- white (9/5): Beautiful scenic stay in lovely, artistic, well thought out house- worth revisiting - The location was excellent. It was in a beautiful setting overlooking Dullstroom Dam and a mountain. We really enjoyed sitting outside by the dam in the early morning and late afternoon. The accommodation is also close to 3 lovely hiking or walking venues eg Hghland trout and golf estate, Uitvlught ponds and Walkersons.(10-17km) . Walkersons also has a lovely terrace restaurant for delicious lunches & breakfasts plus Highland trout and golf estate has a scenic restaurant. The accommodation is very close to Dullstroom town to visit the quaint shops and restaurants there
We loved the comfortable accommodation , the artistic Victorian decor and the beautiful furnishings. We really enjoyed our stay there and will return. An umbrella for the patio is a good idea especially when the sun is hot .The maid needs some supervision.
- Paul (9/5): - Beautiful view and location loved
- Jacques Hulley (8/5): - Beautiful views The shower leaked
- Clive (8/5): Stunning view , neat home - Clean , neat house NA
- Robin-Lea (6/5): While houses around weren't filled, it was quiet and peaceful. - The fact that it didn't seem clean and in need of maintenance.

- Lotter (10/5): Peace , tranquil and location ,piece of heaven - Location on the estate to the dam and walk into town. Peaceful and tranquility. Had everything we needed. The Victorian look and feel. The Old Brown sherry which still haven't had. The surprizes of the helper coming in.Bonus. Perfect for Parkrun ,walk to the start. Great walking trails up the mountain. Needs a little maintenance re the plug in the one bedroom, the door handle came out.Not showstopper but just been made aware
Most important frustrating was the code to get out of the estate DID NOT work. Worked first thing in the morning when I went running. That was it. Communicated daily and other than one message ,it should work ,Well it didn't. Security guard had to let us out. Other than that ,that was the only downside.
- Jottie (10/5): It was very comfortable and great. - It was well appointed and had a lovely outlook over the water. The dryer was not working properly.

- Tarryn (10/5): - This is was our second visit to Fox & Squirrel, we love coming here!
The cottage is very well located and is the perfect getaway for a group of friends or family. There is a trout dam directly in front of the cottage and the view from the cottage is spectacular.
The welcoming sherry, fireplace, and electric blankets make it the perfect winter getaway too!
- Van (8/5): Fantastic - Location 100%
- Elaine (9/5): Superb -
- Tarryn (10/5): Perfect getaway for family’s, couples, or a group of friends. Added bonus that we could have our furry friend with us! - The property is in a security estate overlooking a beautiful trout dam. It’s perfectly located in that it is walking distance from the main strip in town, but still offers peace and tranquility by not being on the main street. The living area with the fireplace is super cozy and the indoor braai is very convenient.
Electric blankets in winter are an added bonus!
- Du (9/5): Superb -
- Bianca (9/5): Superb -
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional -
- Siobhan (7/5): 2nd time at Fox & Squirrel and will book again - 4 rooms with separate bathrooms
Kitchen had everything you could need There was no umbrella for the patio
There was a leak under the kitchen sink
Some of the bed linen had stains
- Marius (10/5): Exceptional - everything in the house was perfect. A winner is the indoor braai , especially when cold and rainy weather . All the fireplaces in the house was great , although we only used the one in the living room. We could even watched the rugby , Dorothy was a great help and very friendly , keep it up and see you again
well done !!!!! nothing not to like
- Richard (8/5): Very good -
- Amecia (10/5): Great location. Host and cleaning great. Beautiful house. - Location is perfect. Beautiful decor and furniture. Well layed out with bathroom in each room. A little dark indoors. Some kitchen utensils need updating.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): Best choice for our 21st anniversary. Love this. - The open spaces.
The indoor braai, we had beautiful rain.
The rustic atmosphere. Nothing we can think of.
- Clive (9/5): Scenery is beautiful. House is charming - Beautiful location. The house is very quaint and luxurious. NA
- Ja9 (7/5): A lovely, cosy Christmas, this home had everything we could wish for. - A lovely location with unspoiled views, loved having a fireplace even though it was the middle of summer. We had a lot of rain and some minor flooding at the front door. The host was very responsive and pulled off a miracle getting standing water cleared on Christmas Eve. Some roof leaks due to the storm so some maintenance needed on the property. But on the whole the house is superbly equipped with more than adequate space and essentials for a large party of guests. We had winter weather on our stay so lots of hot water, electric blankets and fireplaces made it so cosy inside. We would definitely stay again - thank you to our hosts for sorting any issues we had quickly. Interior could do with a little updating in places, and warm white bulbs would be gentler than harsh white lighting.
- Monique (7/5): The house is comfortable and ideal. Big pity about the fishing! - Location was ideal. Easy walking access to the dam. House was spacious. Good quality beds and linen and furnishings in good order. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you needed. Uncomfortable patio furniture. Would be great to have nice loungers and comfortable furniture to be outside and umbrellas to enjoy the view of the dam.
BIG NEGATIVE the dam was POORLY stocked with little to no fish. During our 8 day stay no fish were caught or seen. We only came across one person who caught on the far side of the dam. This is a big pity as the location of the house is ideal.
We eventually paid for fishing at other dams and caught on all occasions.
Had heavy rain and and there are quite a few leaks in the roof.
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Esna (10/5): Exceptional - The beautiful interior design and the magnificent view of the trout dam and mountain. We liked everything.
- Anne (8/5): Misty Mountain views over the dam with a roaring fire, trout, wine and good friends. Perfect! - A perfect lake view, close to a hike, restaurants and shops
Comfortable with all the amenities you need
- Rob (10/5): Always a great option for Dullstroom if you like the cottage feel. - We’ve stayed here a few times. We love the cosy cottage feel. The complimentary Old Brown sherry always works for the girls in my family. Everything worked well, indoor braai, a few upgrades to the kitchen since last time. Excellent value for money. Be aware that 2 rooms have bath and 2 have shower.
- Elle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Johannes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gayle (7/5): It was a lovely weekend - good location - Did not have breakfast
location is very good with a nice view of the dame and hill
nice fire place Everything was find for the price range
- Rachelle (9/5): Awesome stay!! - Perfect for family and friends, each room with its own bathroom, great!!! The kitchen and living area is wonderfully designed so that all can be part of the conversation and not felt out. Nothing
- Byron (8/5): Great stay and location at the dam. - Great location and the house had all the amenities as well as all the required items for a great stay. The house feels “dirty” - Carpets and lounge couches need a rethink.
We walked into the property and it smelt like heavy smoke. After a few days stay it became better with us air’ing the place out.
- Jessica (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely loved our stay! Such a homely feel with beautiful touches , stunning views , fireplaces and indoor braai. Friendly staff and a relaxing feel!
- Franco (10/5): Excellent and comfortable. - The house is neat, tidy, spacious and comfortable. Excellent for a family or group of friends. Will be ideal and warm to visit in winter with the 3x fireplaces and inside Jet master braai. Wil visit again.
- Pierre (8/5): Really enjoyed our stay, extremely convenient location, house / estate was very quiet and peaceful. - Very well appointed, comfortable and cozy Convenient location, pity about the fence in front of the house, understandable, because it leads onto municaple property/ dam. View of the water and mountain is lovely.
- Solly (9/5): Superb -
- Peta-jane (9/5): Superb -
- Prenisha (10/5): Exceptional - The cozy cottage, peace, tranquility, and the scenery. It was within walking distance of the dam. The lovely heated blankets to keep you warm at night and knowing that you're sleeping on fresh, clean linen. I loved the touch of the sherry as we only arrived at 11h00pm, and it warmed up the guys. The fireplaces in every room. My fur babies were so comfortable and happy as well.
- Louis (8/5): Very good - The house was clean, neat and well looked after. The town was lovely. The communication from the host was poor, they also weren't sure the date we booked for and made no effort to communicate with us on the date. We had to phone a security company to get a hold of the owner as none of the neighbor were able to contact them. A very stressful arrival, we thought we were initially scammed.
- Helen (7/5): The property was clean and comfortable - Trying to find the property was impossible We were not told it was in an estate We were not provided with the code for the lock box It’s was very irritating The property was very comfortable There were no matches at the candles and when the lights went out We were fumbling about in the dark when the power went out
- Shirley (8/5): A slice of paradise with a stunning view - The view was exceptional. The house was very comfortable. Comfortable beds. Good space for a family. Will definately return. Despite the loadshedding we managed to have a great weekend away with two families comfortably. General maintenance is needed. Webber was broken. Pedestal in one bedroom loose. Toilet was leaking in one of the double rooms. The key was broken on the single rooms sliding door. The bedroom cupboards need a clean as we could not pack away our clothing. I expected more meaures for load shedding. We took own lights but in terms of cooking could use more measures. However the view was unbeatable as well as the surroundings. Close to town.
- Cal (9/5): The couch in front of the fireplace in the bedroom and the electric blanket was a big plus. - No Breakfast
- Francois (9/5): Fantastic - We have stayed here before and always enjoy our time at this establishment.
- John (9/5): Very happy with both accommodation and staff - It was just what we requested and required. Very happy with the service. Dorothy was very helpful and pleasant. Nothing really
- Anell (8/5): Very good -
- Francois (8/5): Great - Comfy house Toilet leak
- Julesconradie2309 (9/5): Pleasant - Perfect for a big family.
Location close by everything.
Beds was nice.
Clean & neat. It was a bit difficult to get to the estate, the GPS took us to another house. Just confirm with the owner.
When we arrived at the house, we heard the TV was on and the cleaning lady was busy watching tv and sitting on the coach, she was a bit shocked that someone came to the house, not expecting us. It was unpleasant as I immediately thought are we doubled booked, why is there someone still in the house. We phoned Nicola, and it was immediately sorted out.
- Bra (10/5): Awesome stay. will certainly tell friends about it. - Easily accessible. Got everything we needed. Generous space that allowed us to have indoor picnic due to not-so-great weather on Sunday. Awesome surrounding, complemented by the nearby dam. Nothing.
- Mariette (8/5): Very good -
- Glynnis (8/5): Very good -
- Liezel (9/5): Superb - Keys were securely locked in a safe at the location provided.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jamie (8/5): very nice location and worth the extra cost - everything was perfect as I said in the guest book it would be the best place I’ve been to for a very long time if it had a bigger TV and an Invertor for when there are power outages.
- Bertha (10/5): Excellent stay with comfortable beds in a great location - Lovely place
- Bertha (10/5): Excellent - Stunning view from a comfortable house. Thanks!
- David (8/5): Very good -
- Dave (8/5): Love the setting and the space - Just think the cleaner is a bit slack. Cutlery used the night before was still dirty after she washed it and put back into the drawer The wooden door out of the lounge is very difficult to open. Have to push it at the bottom to get it going. also lock of door in bedroom on the right is not working at all so only a little shift lock is keeping it closed. Being 2 couples it is a bit difficult to only have 1 set of keys to move around
- Tandi (8/5): Very good -
- John (9/5): Loved it - Location in dullstroom and on the dam with the mountain
- Janice (9/5): Superb - Right on the dam. Good size and well kept
- Marie (8/5): Pleasant - we located - comfortable, we enjoyed our stay in Dullstroom - Nice house for a family get-a-way, well located and it was serviced which was nice. Baths in 2 main bedrooms and one of the handheld showers was broken
- Lukas (8/5): Tranquil - Romantic getaway - Very beautiful place in tranquil setting with all the needed goods in support. Place was clean and the fire places useful with the cold night. Like the baths in the bathroom making for a very romantic get away and setting
- THOMAS (10/5): 10 STARS - AWESOME PLACE!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AAAAAAA+++++++++++++++
- ian (10/5): Want peace tranquility close to town ? - enjoyed every minute of it. cottage is fully furnished and lacked nothing what we needed. Furnished in the style of Dullstroom so it fitted in with the ambiance. beautiful full view of the dam and hill . Great walks around the estate and the hiking trail on offer at the main dam. Parkrun is next door at the main dam. Very close to all the restaurants and shops of Dullstroom . Easy walking . walked to the brewery and coffee shop . Has a TV with DSTV but honestly we did not need it. No WiFI but again that added to the peace and as a couple we could connect again without it. 4 rooms to choose from . Two main rooms have victorian baths , fire places for winter . Very comfortable. Doors open onto the dam . One room on the left very romantic in the way it has mirrors around the bath and the view of the dam . fire place , leave it up to you to imagine . The two other rooms have showers and heaters for the winter time. Daily serviced so no washing up or making of beds. true luxury here. Love to come back in winter time with the cold and mist and log fires on in the lounge and bedroom. We will be back. Thumbs up for us.
- Elna (8/5): - We had a great time and really enjoyed the our walk, more information on walks in the area would be useful.
- Marie Monique (10/5): Wonderful Fox and Squirrel - Fox and Squirrel was our accommodation of choice in Dullstroom, Mpumalanga Province of South Africa. Situated within a beautiful trout fishing estate, our chalet overlooked the trout dams. The accommodation was beautifully appointed and we were able to walk to dinner at Mrs. Simpson's Restaurant. We will be back!
