- Arabelle (9/5): Midweek in the Bush - We liked the cosy house and to be so close to nature.
- Annatjie (10/5): -
- Schoeman (4/5): Great location, not so great stay. - The space in and around the house. Great firepit, and watering hole nearby. The location in general, not a lot of traffic, saw a lot of animals. Enough cutlery. Two fridges. The one geyser did not work properly, reported a few times. Potential broken thermostat. Oven doesn't close properly, challenge to cook. One torn bed pillow cover. A lot of bats in the roof that we could not get to fly out of the house, tried everything suggested by reception. This is a major health risk. This also meant bat feces were around and even on the beds, difficulty in sleeping in the loft because of this. Various crockery were chipped.
- crown Aarons (8/5): - Animals and privacy Shortage of cleaning equipments
- Phomelelo (7/5): -
- Madeleine (5/5): it was very nice except for small hickups - Its a beautiful unit easily accessible - good bathroom facilities and bush experience the stoep was not clean, the owner must be paying someone to ensure that the unit is stock with propper glasses of all sorts which is not the case, we only had 2 wine glasses and 1 shot glass. We phoned for more wine glasses which we got the next day but it was really not nice glasses - more desertwine glasses. We also had a coffee stained duvet cover, we asked the cleaner for replacement and was told that all the linen is in the washing facilities - but we discovered on departure that the cupboards are full of clean linen. The cleaner brought toilet paper but she did not put it out for us which mean we ran out and had to make a plan on the day of departure.
- Vivienne (7/5): Overall a great weekend. - Location, peaceful and quiet. The animals wondering through There were discrepancies in the description of what was in the house e.g hot blankets. Not enough tea towels, drying clothes.
- Mashanda (8/5): -
- Tshegofatso (10/5): It was Lit - The place is beautiful n peaceful I dont have any complains
- Rozanne (8/5): -
- Moletje (1/5): They need to spring clean the place before guests come, I was not happy with the state of the place. It’s a lovely place - The serenity The place was filthy , the showers showed it doesn’t get clean after guests leave. The sheets were dusty and dirty even smelly. I booked 2 night and after 1 night I had to call them to come clean, the dishes were dusty!

- Radzilani (9/5): -
- Valentia (7/5): Makhato 84 - The house was beautiful but not clean. We were really disappointed that nobody bothered to clean the house even though we booked way on time. Otherwise, it was good, and my kids loved the beds upstairs. Dirt. House was dirty, beds very uncomfortable.
And there were no brooms or mops for us to clean.
- brits (10/5): Lots of fun great family break and lots to do for kids this was the first time but we will be back - Sorry we did our own breakfast but the menu need more options for vegans and salads. The curries were not good please use fresh veggies not frozen ones.

- Katharina (10/5): Alles bestens - Perfekt Stay Wünderschönes Haus
- Jansen (9/5): - Great place to start our trip, we spotted lots of animals, went cycling and left well rested. Nicola was a great help and adjusted our booking when on arrival our flight was delayed.
- Annalize (10/5): -
- Amanda (7/5): Was nice - friendly staff the add because its false advertisement. There was no gas braai or weber as per the add. Luckily, we took our own gasbottle
- Mcdonald (9/5): Superb -
- Demetrios (9/5): Superb -
- Msimango (10/5): Do u know movie actor who said,,, ILL BE BACK?..MAKHATO 84 ILL BE BACK - Good day
I am always traveling with my family have stayed in many lodges .Makhato 84 is one of the best places we ever visited
To Theo Owner, I say WELLDONE may
God bless you 🤣 bath was too small for me and my twin (wife) to relax in it🤭🤭🤭
- William (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (8/5): Very good -
- Smit (7/5): A few minor things, but I will recommend for a nice quiet stay with the Zebra, Buck that visit - Good space for 8 people. The fridges had not been defrosted,
no soap for the bathrooms and the braai holders had not been cleaned
- Nadia (8/5): Very good -
- Mosima (8/5): Very good - The animals The kitchen didn't accommodate us all. They were 4 chairs upstairs and 4 downstairs
- Maggy (8/5): Very good -
- Matthew (10/5): Peaceful and a perfect way to end 2024 - Great location with all the amenities you need. There is even an outside drinks fridge. No much to be honest
- Fourie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Isabe (8/5): Good location -
- Buci-swa (5/5): Ver disappointed - The nature and animals The house itself was not very pleasant. The entire place smelled like sewage from the cupboards to the bathrooms. The other thing was the alarm that kept going off and tripping the main switch, making cooking and bathing very unpleasant. Even though we reached out to the person/owner as referred to by Sondela, they did not even return our call or message.
- Eugene (6/5): Pleasant - The unit is spacious and clean. Good location. We always love staying at Makhato units and this was the same. They just need to update the website photos, as in the photos of the unit a weber is advertised that will allow you to be able to braai even if it rains. This was not the case when we arrived as there was no weber braai available, therefore had to make alternative plans due to the constant rain.
Also noted the toilet drains from inside the unit had a smell, that just need to be checked and see what is the root cause.
- Chyle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Westley (9/5): Superb -
- Wolfgang (9/5): Celebrating Spouse's Birthday! - Location was great. House was neat and tidy. Nothing particularly.

- Kedibone (10/5): My was was peaceful and nice - Nothing The key thing
- Kundwani (6/5): We really enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to visit with my family 😊. - Picnic area and the pool area we really enjoyed very clean and the food at the restaurant was good.
- Samantha (7/5): Lovely family place and nice facilities for the kids. - Properly well equipped and lovely setting. Upstairs area has great views. Beds were comfortable and clean. The couches are broken and torn. Couldn’t even sit on them. Property needs a deep clean. No soap provided and the cleaning equipment for dishes was all black. Had to buy cloths to wipe and clean dishes. Kettle needs vinegar to deep clean but lovely place.
- Tebogo (7/5): Excellent stay for families with kids, fascinating to see the animals at your doorstep. -
- Stefan (9/5): Superb -
- Priscilla (5/5): Passable -
- Dylan (9/5): Superb -
- Rosemary (9/5): Superb - Quite, spacious and a chance to view the game There was a sewerage smell that was rather nauseating
- Andre (8/5): Relaxing - Closeness to nature None
- Alex (8/5): Best value for money, perfect accommodation. - The size of the unit is perfect and the beds are in an acceptable state. The boma is amazing and very useful. The outside table and fridge were very useful as we mostly used this the entire weekend.
- Ronelle (8/5): We had a wonderful , relaxing time and saw plenty of animals from our unit - The fact that a group of friends could stay in one unit and the facilities was great. A Toilet upstairs would have been nice....
- Croydon (9/5): Fantastic facilities , I will be back , I would love to own a share in the house -
- Joseph (8/5): We enjoyed the quietness and animals roaming around us. - Made our own breakfast. The couch in the living room had better days abd are quite worn out.
- Irene (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kefilwe (8/5): My stay was excellent - Every thing was good
- Johan (10/5): Wonderful escape - The location was superb. The layout of the chalet suited our family. The fact that the unites are spread out, makes it very private and special. The waterhole 30m from the stoep drew many welcome visitors. The children enjoyed the hot and cold pool in our area. A fan or two would have been welcome during the first very hot days. No broom to do basic cleaning.
- Lindelee (10/5): Exceptional - 2nd visit at this Lodge. Setting of this Lodge is fantastic.
Very clean, staff super friendly and helpful.
Nothing beats the bush. Wide range of activities available, SPA, pools, bush walks and drives.
Loads of local shops and restaurants near Sondela if you need a day out.
Stay for 7 nights or more....it is so relaxing and beautiful. Think due to load shedding the fridges is taking a beating and probably needs a service.
Nothing to complain about, absolutely love this place.
- Tracey (8/5): Very good -
- Stevens (10/5): Everything was perfect. - Very comfortable unit. The kids loved the beds upstairs. Lots of added extras like DSTV and WIFI. Loved our stay and definitely will book at 84 Makhato again. Thank you for hosting us. We thought everything was perfect.
- Leannecole (9/5): A place in the bush - The place is ideal for families; our granddaughter had a blast at the pools and then in the evenings watching the animals walk past the unit, and the bushbabies were a wonderful surprise every night. There didn't seem to be enough hot water at the unit for everyone to enjoy a hot shower.
- Melissa (8/5): Amazing house, dirty crockery. - Absolutely gorgeous house with lovely view, looks smaller than the pictures but has the watering hole right infront of the house! Had lots of animals come visit! Solar lights were put up for loadshedding which helped a lot! All the crockery was dirty, the pots (not a big selection and are very heavy) were full of dirt inside, the severing bowls were full of thatch and the jugs looked like they hadn't been washed in a VERY long time. The thatch was also busy being re-done which was not indicated to me. The old thatch had the house extremely dirty (and thatch carries lice!) as well as the Bush baby's living in the thatch (no problem with that) but as we arrived there was poop on the main bedrooms sheet.
- Karabo (10/5): We had really a great time and everything was perfect, the house, the peace, the visitations by wild animals just next t - Peace N/a
- Mary (9/5): Superb - Lodge and reserve were great.Visits to our stoop by many wild animals was extraordinary! A 6km ride to reception was long.
Indicated walk paths would have been helpful.
- Chanel (7/5): Makhato 84 - The house was very neat except for the kitchen as stated below. The staff at the resort was very friendly and helpful The kitchen needs alot of cleaning. The oven and microwave was so dirty that one really can't use it and the load shedding level 6 made it very difficult when it came to preparing food.
- Rudi (8/5): Relaxing g - Location, large stoep, boma area.
- Tania (8/5): Very good -
- Graham (10/5): Wonderful experience in a unique setting. - location and serenity. nil
- Matsemela (8/5): Very good - The fact that I must pay for parking while they told me on booking.com that we have a free parking
- Lee (7/5): Good -
- Nkateko (10/5): Getaway with group of friends - I liked how the place had everything we needed and how the beds were so comfortable. Everything was working and everything was clean. Exactly as the pictures The distance it takes to get to reception from main gate and not being informed fully about the activities and what needed to be done. We found most things fully booked due to staff giving less information until we ask
- Msthabelo (9/5): Superb -
- Carin (8/5): PERFECT -
- Tracey (8/5): Very good -
- Lesley (7/5): Good - Nice lodge suited our needs for one night. Sondela Reserve is a pleasant location. The security staff were very welcoming and pleasant Reception staff could have been more welcoming .Found them rather stiff. Doormats had dirt swept under them
- Adele (10/5): we had a nice stay thankyou -
- Shalate (6/5): Pleasant - Activities
Chalet very clean Attacked by bees, according to cleaners they have being complaining about it......lost of bees u can end up in hospital
- Sewela (7/5): Good -
- Lerato (8/5): Very good - It is a very quiet space, their security is top notch.Felt safe.Very clean space Load shedding really an inconvenience. The fridge in the house doesn't work properly
- Bonnema (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thabisile (7/5): the stay was good and peaceful, pity we felt abit sidelined by other guests mostly white guests at the pool side - everything was having everything we found the facility clean the cleaning service lady stole our money when they came to clean
- Melissa (7/5): Family get away! - Loved the animals around the unit!! The unit has so much potential and it's big and comfy for whole family!! Very relaxing!! The unit needs to be properly cleaned!! And the appliances checked to make sure they all in good condition. As Load Shedding is a norm, guests should be advised in order to be prepared especially since we are not locals and we were not made aware until we arrived!
- Rose (10/5): thoroughly enjoyed our stay - it was a family get together - well situated. very well appointed. spacious. wonderful having gas braai. comfortable and good game viewing around the house
- Amanda (9/5): Superb - Peaceful, beautiful lodge Nothing
- Anton (8/5): Very good -
- Pontsho (10/5): Exceptional - It was a great experience Nothing, everything was perfect
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shande (9/5): Great Family stay - We love Sondela, the animals that come to the houses, the cycling routes and just the peace and tranquility. In terms of this unit, it was cosy (really homely). It's tastefully decorated, comfortable beds and couches, heaters in all the rooms as we went in winter. The outside dining area was great with Gas heater and a Gas braai. The separate scullery is nice and the upstairs "kids" room spacious and fun for the kids with beautiful patio upstairs to soak up some sun. Comms with the host was good and they addressed any challenges / questions we experienced quickly. Pots, pans and some kitchen equipment needs a refresh. Not sure I will go again in the heart of winter as the facilities are a bit limited with only one warm but not so warm pool and with load shedding it was freezing at night when heaters went out (but that was an exception).
