Guest Reviews

- Matthias (10/5): -
- Balbino (9/5): Boa e recomendo a qualquer viajante.
- Douglas James (10/5): Very expensive but worth it for quiet time out and ex vironmental values. - An excellent vision for environmental coexistence. Perhaps not sold well enough. Reservations did not reply to numerous requests for more information.
This was very disappointing and there was no assistance or advice on how to get to this remote pousada.
- Alain (6/5): - Das Essen dürfte besser sein. Der Saal ähnelt einer Kantine. Die Kleider stinken nach Küche. Das Personal ist wenig motiviert.
- bagosifoto (9/5): Pihenésre, a természet felfedezésére kiváló szálláshely - Kiváló szálláshely a várostól (Pocone) kb. 20 perc autóútnyira. Jó a felszereltsége. Kiváló ételeket és italokat kínálnak. A meglehetősen nagy birtokukra szerveznek kirándulásokat, ahol sok állatot lehet megfigyelni, ezért a természetszeretőknek, madarászoknak, fotósoknak javasolt. A kertben sok vízidisznó tanyázik.
- Beverley (10/5): -
- Bob (6/5): FRUSTRATING! Only GREAT for birding if you ignore their policy. - The immediate grounds around Pousada Piuval were attractive and pretty good for birding. The food (buffet) was very good (8/10). My wife and I visited Pousada Piuval on our own (via rental car) for 2 days/nights. We wanted to see as many birds as possible, but Pousada Piuval is NOT set up to accommodate those of us exploring on their own (i.e., without a tour and without a guide). In fact, I asked the front desk for a trail map of their property, and their staff was very insistent we simply could NOT hike or bird their extended property (only the immediate area around the restaurant and rooms). I pushed back, but they wouldn't budge, saying something about the danger of jaguars. That's ridiculous given 1 person per decade is killed in Brazil by jaguars (vs. 5000 / year from drowning or 2500 from choking on their breakfast). Why do they served breakfast or have a pool? I said we were going to find a trail and go hiking at 5:30am anyhow, but they were unmoved.
We did indeed go hiking/birding at 5:30am for a few miles, and it was FANTASTIC. We saw 85 bird species in 2 hours (both mornings). I doubt we would have seen 30 species on their 8am tour. The real reason I believe they won't allow you to go birding on your own is they want to make money on one of their (awful) bird tours that depart only at 8am and 3pm. 8am? Most of the birds are quiet. 3pm? It's 104F (40C). At 3pm, we actually saw (while relaxing in the pool with our binoculars) a few water birds in a nearby pond, and then saw/heard their noisy, dusty bird tour bus pull up to the same pond and scare half the birds away. It sat there in 104F heat for over 30 minutes We couldn't believe our eyes. We had a better view than they did from the comfort of the pool
Anyhow, we loved the birding, but didn't appreciate being forced to sneak around to see birds. We know the vast majority of those staying at Pousada Piuval will not be as willing as we were to ignore policy, and therefore will not see nearly as many birds.
- Aline (8/5): - Refeições maravilhosa!
- Martina (9/5): Estancia maravillosa - Estancia maravillosa.
- Adriano (9/5): -
- Jonathan (10/5): Magical in every sense. A nature lover's paradise. Amazing, staff. Beautiful grounds. Terrific meals. - A delightful lodge with free roaming caiman, capybara, ocelots, red vermillion fly catcher birds, hyacinth macaws, giant ant-eaters and Nina the jaguar. This is truly a nature lover's paradise. The swimming pool is nice to cool off in. The staff are amazing, Luciano, Christiano, Claudia, Tatiana, Bruno. Julio was the best guide and we managed to see 4 jaguars together (but not a black jaguar or the even more elusive, pink panther) from Porto Jofre before seeing a fifth, probably Nina near the grounds of Pousada Piuval. Please include a charge in the price to help towards jaguar protection programme run by Paul and Samuel. This is important for the majestic jaguars to survive and flourish in their habitat. Meals were delicious also. The safaris are excellent and as good as any you will find in Africa. Staff are well trained and enthusiastic. Sometimes the mosquitoes can be all too prevalent.
- Julia (10/5): -
- Raf (9/5): Great to spot awesome wildlife - Great location and amenities Communication between tour guides and other personnel was not the greatest. They hindered each other.
- Andrew (9/5): Superb - Outstanding wildlife, very well designed and comfortable rooms. Very few english speaking staff, including guides. I was fortunate to find and secure an english speaking guide (the only one?).
- Philipe (9/5): An awesome trip in the Pantanal - Well located, with clean rooms and a friendly staff. Lots of options for pay trips and lots of animals on the property. Nothing major, showers weren’t the best but due to its location it’s understandable.
- Beatriz (10/5): Lots of capybaras on site - We saw so many animals around the property, so beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Food and staff are great too.
- Madelyn (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (8/5): Very nice stay, spotted some special animals - Infrastructure, good buffet and a lot of animals in the vicinity. Last minute tour cancellation of the night safari
- Pauliane (9/5): Great experience! - Great place to visit Pantanal, the staff was very nice and polite, we enjoyed the attractions and the entire hotel The only thing I’ll change is to have some snacks, fruit to grab and go. We did a late checking and miss the supper and they don’t have anything to offer to us.
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Lorraine (10/5): well worth the long journey, super staff who were so kind and helpful to us - tours were fantastic saw lots of wildlife . The pousada is full of animals and fabulous birds who live around the lodges . Tatiana and all the reception staff were great. The photos do not do it justice More info about what is available for guests would be helpful
- Joe (10/5): Incredible place - We had an incredible time here. We saw the same jaguar on all three days, and she actually came around the lodges in the evening! Amazing experience. We also saw the big hitters like the giant anteater, tamandua, hyacinth macaw etc. The bird life is great too and if you go out looking for everything you will see so many species all the time and a lot close to the lodge (both potoos were nearby). We enjoyed the walking tour and horse ride with Branco as well as the sunrising safaris for seeing the anteater and night safaris.
The buffet food was good, the lodge was a nice spacious room with good AC which we needed as it was 43C every day. The pool area is also nice.
A couple of nights here and we saw an incredible amount of wildlife. All the staff were very helpful. Thank you! It's a minor thing and for the price can't complain but most guides were Portuguese speaking only. Something to be aware of as compared to other experiences where the guide has been able to point out birds we've recorded a lot more. But the price reflects the lack of private English speaking tours which you could book separately.
Also a few tours were more inflexible i.e just looking for one thing like the jaguar. But this was not a problem and we still saw a lot.
- Roopa (8/5): Very nice but would have been better if we had seen jaguars however we did see 40 different species - Very nice place. Needed o work on getting to know people but they are nice and helpful. Some very nice safaris but unfortunately the first night we did not have the best night guide and missed seeing the jaguars. Absolutely no English speaking guides or translators on safari. If it is important to have international travellers then it is essential to have English speaking guides or translators. Too much reliance on google translate😊
- Mary (10/5): if you want to visit the Pantanal, you must stay here!! - beautifully situated on the Pantanal. exceptional views. giant Anteater was our highlight!
good selection of food. nothing
- Ofer (8/5): Beautiful posada in the northern side of Pantanal - Nice place with excellent food Many power failures.
Impossible to regulate water temperature in the shower
- Ali (10/5): Fabulous stay - Peaceful location in north Pantanal, wildlife on the doorstep with birds and capybaras in the gardens, super pool, clean large rooms great food, and fantastic staff. The mosquitos!
- Bozena (10/5): Exceptional - Close interaction with nature and animals
- Riad (9/5): Superb -
- Marcus (10/5): We had an excellent stay at Piuval. Very good food, welcoming staff, great location. If you want to experience the Panat - Great Location, lots of wildlife. Very well run, clean and organized.
- Kim (10/5): Simply amazing! - Lovely people, amazing views from the pousada and fun activity's. Nice pool and good capirinha's! Nothing
- Greg (9/5): Superb -
- Qma (10/5): Good facility, location with plenty of wildlife. On site wildlife drives and horse ride were great. -
- Victoria (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location, clean and comfortable and kept immaculate by the staff. The food all home cooked and loads of choice was delicious. Wildlife everywhere, we saw so much even the elusive Jaguar. Would highly recommend. Only some of the reception staff spoke English, none of the wildlife safari guides, so if you don't speak Portuguese you don't understand any of the explanations about the wildlife and can't ask any questions. We bought a wildlife guide book from the shop to get over this. Many other English speaking guests seem to have hired private guides from external companies to accompany them, but we didn't know this was an option and apparently increases the cost of the trip significantly.
- Chiara (9/5): Very nice place and nice trips - Very nice resort in the middle of nature. They organise trips like safari, horse riding, walking..every day. The trip are well organised; the guide try to let you spot animals as much as possible (even if they don't explain anything, for that you need a private guide). We manage also to spot a jaguar during our last safari! The facilities are quite nice and the food excellent. With respect to other pousadas we stayed in Pantanal, this structure has a very large area curated that gives less the impression to be in the wild. Maybe more for families than for nature kind of persons. It is worth the visit for short stay anyway.
- Qinglin (10/5): - I stayed for 2 nights. The tours offered were great. I saw many birds, Giant anteater and little Anteater, and a pair of Jaguar. The swimming pool was clean and nice for the hot noon to mid-afternoons between the tours. The food for 3 meals were excellent and had many choices. The room is spacious. I will return for another two nights on Oct. 5 to 7.
- Cristiano (9/5): Wonderful experience! We were able to see animals in the wild and had a good time overall. - Food was amazing! Staff very friendly. Location is beautiful and the tours offered were very nice. Swimming pool needs more chaise lounges (there were only 4) and needs to open in the evening, especially when temperatures are so hot.
- Jeannie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandra (8/5): Very good -
- Zwaan (8/5): Amazing location, but expected more for that price - The tours and the food was amazing! Shower only had cold water.
Overall it felt a bit overpriced. The room wasnt really comfortable and the tours, which made the trip, had to be paid seperately.
- Barbara (10/5): Good bird watching hotel - Good hotel for birders and naturalists. Also has swimming pool, horseback and boat rides. Very good, helpful staff and meals. We were with a birding guide and they comp the guides room and meals which is normal in Brazil. During the dry season there are lots of roads and trails you can go on in your search for birds. We also saw a pair of Jaguars, 2 species of monkeys, fox, lesser ant eater and marsh deer. Would recommend it as the first or last stop on your tour of the Transpantaneira Highway as it's about an hour and a half from the airport in Cuiaba.
- Timothy E. (8/5): Great place in the Pantanal - Food was excellent—it was a really good experience and we really enjoyed the various excursions—would recommend this Pousada
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great tours. We saw jaguar, giant anteater and small anteater on night safari. Also did boat Safari and horseback ride. Excellent staff. Only complaints were condition of room (needed updating, broken fixtures) and hot foods served cold, even at the start of meal times.
