Guest Reviews
- Brad (9/5): -
- Simon (8/5): Generally a lovely stay in a lovely place. - Lovely quiet and comfortable room with all the basics. Easy to check in and out. Property owners quick to respond via text to our questions before and during stay. They provided a complimentary bottle of chardonnay for our anniversary which was nice. There was some confusion as to the cabin which we booked. We wanted the one with the fireplace (which was more expensive) so booked this thru booking.com. I also confirmed this via text with owner after booking. However our confirmation email 24 hours before had the different cabin (cheaper room). We had already bought firewood in preparation for this and it did initially sour the weekend for us.
- Mary (8/5): I had an enjoyable stay in a clean and beautifully situated b and b - Not applicable Stairs into the kitchen were not an expectation
- Abby (10/5): -
- Jett T (10/5): -
- Wai Yin (8/5): - Location was superb, quiet yet close to everything
Bed was very comfortable,
Cabin was very clean,
Spa bath - excellent,
Back deck with chairs overlooking quaint garden - lovely
Port and chocolate a nice touch!
Books and games in the drawers - very thoughtful. A stand to put baggage would be nice.
Basin too far from edge of benchtop.
A separate sink for kitchen preferable
Toilet paper holder too far back
Auto fan button not long enough for shower. Makes a terrible sound when it pops out
Curtain in bathroom will be hard to maintain as it gets wet during a shower.
Could do with some cloths to dry outdoor furniture.
Would be good to have had a bath gel/bubbles for spa.
Electronic directory could have links to restaurants etc
Fridge door shelves no barrier
Instant coffee a disappointment - grinds and plunger or a moka pot would have been good.

- Wright (1/5): - The spar and the room Does not hav vanity unit with a basin in bathroom.the sink that u wash ur dishes in is the same basin u are mentioned to wash ur hands in the toilet how un hygienic is that...also the stove top had rusted elements, the oven pans were rusted nearly out....very disappointed with this stay

- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nadine (8/5): - very cozy and quiet great getaway for our Anniversary
- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional - The location had a great, relaxing atmosphere. A clean, quaint and inviting cottage. It was lovely to have a bottle of champagne 🍾 on arrival as requested. Really nice touch. 👌
- Janine (10/5): - It is a gorgeous little cottage.it was a delight to stay in.
- Chad (6/5): We really enjoyed our time in spite of a poor night of sleep the first night. - The little cottage we stayed in was awesome. In a beautiful spot just outside Sassafras. Had a wonderful spa tub and good wifi. Also really enjoyed the back verandah and small garden. Loved that the place was set up and pre-warmed for our arrival. We felt very welcome. The big issue we had was with the bed. Barely slept at all our first night. We found out this was due to a broken leg in the boxspring and the next night, after removing the boxspring and setting it against the wall, we slept much better. However, I was disappointed we couldn't rest well our first night and that we had to sleep with the mattress on the ground and a huge boxspring looming next to us.
- Barbara (8/5): Very good - A happy anniversary sign with port and chocolate The bed was too small . The ignition to the gas hob was not working and I had to hunt around for matches. The parking was difficult
- Amy (10/5): Very lovely, clean, spacious place for a cosy, romantic weekend away! - I stayed in Hush Cabin which was a lovely, quaint but surprisingly big space. It had a open plan living area with kitchen, dining and lounge with a separate lounge area with the fireplace. It was all very comfortable. Hot tub worked well, heating was excellent, the bed was comfortable. Surrounded by beautiful forestry in a quiet, secluded street but also very very close to town. Lovely place to spend a relaxing weekend reading a book by the fireplace and exploring the Dandenong Ranges. I arrived at night and couldn't see very well as there's not much lighting in the street. I got confused about where the cabin was and how to get in, although in the daytime it was very obvious. Some better signage and lighting would be helpful.
- Ashley (7/5): Good -
- Jyssica (9/5): Superb -
- Gail (8/5): Very good -
- Kevin (6/5): Has great potential but marred by the little things. - The location is awesome. We went for a couple of days escape and that's what we got. The spa is great, the ambiance likewise. We saw no staff, and to be honest that was a good thing. This is not a criticism of the venue, because they were not made aware and I expected no concessions. I am a double amputee (legs) and although I was able to move around the cabin just fine, as I expected, getting from the driveway into the cabin was a serious challenge!! I'm simply letting other disabled people know.
This however is definitely a criticism and will mean we never go back. We have a small dog, and this information was given when we booked. There was a surcharge for the dog (cleaning) which we were not warned of and which came out of my bank separately from the booking. Doing this WITHOUT CONSULTATION was bad enough, we would have happily payed the $25 extra IF we had been asked to. WE WOULD NOT HAVE STAYED AT THIS VENUE under any circumstances however with the $25 being PER NIGHT !! You only clean the place once, when we leave. How is the dog a daily cost? Not happy about that, it ruined what would otherwise have been a pleasant trip. Not so much the money as the casual way you took it without asking.
- Moana (7/5): It was a lovely stay but the price I think is a bit to much for what you should be paying for :) -
- Elizabeth (2/5): It was awful for tge $350 thst I paid. - The instructions for hey vac were clear It was poorly heated, very dingy & old musty furnishings
The heater didn’t work well - it was freezing
- Kira (8/5): Very good - Bed was very comfortable
Tv was in a great spot we could turn it and watch it in the spa
Beautiful backyard
Loved the atmosphere Wish it had better curtains for a better sleep in
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Antony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Winnie (10/5): - Spacious and cozy
- Kylie (2/5): Very poor - Bed was extremely uncomfortable, television had horrible reception.
- Margie (9/5): I went for some quiet time and I got it, thank you! - My booking did not have breakfast, I hadn't realised that. The location was just serene!
- Stuart (4/5): I wouldn’t recommend people to stay here. - It was clean Branches needed cutting back where you parked the car, and as it was raining the wet branches dropped all over us.
A scorpion in the kitchen.
The tap in the sink of the bathroom sprayed out the wrong way, and the sink needs unblocking.
Dark inside.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Colleen (9/5): Superb - Everything else Mattress
- Carmen (3/5): Poor -
- Debra (6/5): Pleasant surrounds but much could be done to improve comfort at minimal cost. - The location was reasonably close to Sassafras township by car. The lounge area was comfortable and heater very efficient. The carpark at the front was so tiny it was a challenge to keep our car off the road. The trees out front could be trimmed a bit to help with this but nevertheless we were grateful to have a car space close to the bungalow. Kitchen had a sticky floor and sticky benchtops. The kettle leaked when poured and upon opening it to fill it, the interior was so stained and hadn't ever been cleaned. Suggest bicarb and vinegar boiled up to rid the stain. I have stayed at many places that had a wood-burning fireplace and they all supplied an appropriate amount of wood. This was the first place that didn't have any AND charged for it. No towel rails in the bathroom (plenty of room to put 2 on wall above toilet). Another shelf for toiletries wouldn't go astray either. The bed was tiny and short (my husband is 6' 3")
- Chrissy (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (1/5): Terrible. - Nothing. Absolutely filthy.
Property owners unwilling to admit issues.
Facilities old and barely working.
Absolutely avoid.
- Adam (6/5): - Not a bad little place. Bed was very uncomfortable and small though.
- Louise (9/5): Superb - Loved the 3 rooms that meant it wasn't just a single room cottage. Spacious kitchen and lounge. Bed could have been a bit bigger, but still very comfortable.
- Anonymous (10/5): Cosy, nice, worth the price and well supplied amenities :) - Everything we needed was supplied, the location and style of the cabin was cosy, private and great views :) and ease of use of everything An additional sink with higher water pressure for the kitchen, although it was still manageable as is :)
- ?? (10/5): - Very relaxed place to stay overnight:)
- Anonymous (6/5): Pleasant -
- Vicki (8/5): Very good - The cottage was very cosy and very relaxing.
Thank you.
- Chris (10/5): perfect getaway - loved the cottage parking
- Anonymous (7/5): was a very relaxing stay - the spa & the quiet location the bed was little too soft
- Alexia (5/5): The place was decent for a short stay however functionality could be improved and Thoughful ammenities could have been - Being able to watch tv from the spa was good, the spa worked fine. Functioning heater for warmth and provided enough crockery. Clean bed. It was a little too small and crowded, the sink functionality was hard to use, the power went out in the first night and also no hot water later in the night after the use of our first spa from earlier on. There was a supply of tea and coffee however only 1 tiny milk container provided but no butter or complimentary spreads that could have made the experience better and more thoughtful.
- Sue (7/5): Good -
- Stowers (9/5): Superb - The entire cabin was a fantastic cosy place to be in. The bed is so comfy. It helped switch off from the concrete jungle. Thanks for the stay. Nothing. Everything was likeable.
- Sergio (9/5): A wonderful getaway in the Dandenong ranges - We love the location and intimacy of the cabins. We have stayed in both of them now. we keep coming back as its convenient for us to visit family and they allow pets (small dogs) on request. Our two dogs will put themselves right near the fireplace! We think its one of the best choices in Sassafras. What really wins us over are the small touches that go in to the cabins. much more personal than a hotel. The only detractor is the bed is small so be ready to cuddle up to your other half! But it is comfortable with good pillow choices so not really a bad thing.
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Morgan (6/5): Cute cottage - Very cute cottage in a great location, walking distance to the shops. Very clean when we arrived and had all we needed. The TV can be gently turned so you can watch it from the bed and it has a hdmi port so you can plug in a laptop for streaming services. Unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable, unsupportive and felt like the mattress had collapsed in the middle. Needs to be replaced I think. The little fridge also got quite noisy at times.
- Jones (5/5): Quirky as - Location is great, nice & quite also. We really didn't like the mattress, way too soft.
- Ana (9/5): Superb -
- Joe (6/5): Pleasant -
- Miriam (10/5): Exceptional - So cute and perfect for what we needed. Lovely area!
- Lynne (8/5): - We had a wedding to attend and stayed in the charmed cabin at lotus lodge . A tiny space done really well.If you are out and about a great little gem. The steps down to the cabin from the carpark could be a bit of a hazard for some people the same off the small back deck. If you are sure footed no problem. Very reasonably priced and a little gem.
- Ornella (6/5): Pleasant -
- Peter (10/5): - Loved Lotus Lodge’s Hush Cottage. Clean, tidy, cozy and very welcoming. Highly recommend staying with Lotus Lodge. Great communication. We had no problems at all.
- Mani (5/5): Passable -
- Alison (7/5): Good -
- James (8/5): Very good -
- Shari (9/5): We will be back.. - We had room with the red walls, and my partner and I loved it, it was quirky and very comfortable. It was very central to parks and cafes and restaurants. But we chose to cook breakfast as the kitchen had cooking facilities and the necessary equipment too.
If I had a question the Lotus Lodge were very quick to respond via email or text. We will look forward to staying there again. There were only a few things I didnt like, the bed as it was a bit soft, but my body is quite fussy lol. And when I took my dog out to the toilet the gates along the boundary of the yard have large gaps, so a dog of any size could crawl underneath. But I kept my dog on the leash, otherwise the smells near the lodge would entice her to explore away. Also the main gate into the backyard didnt have a latch.
- Sophie (9/5): Great little cottage for intimate getaway - Cosy little cottage with kitchen facilities and spa.
Lovely for a relaxing getaway in Olinda and Sassafras
- Manea (8/5): Very good -
- Manea (8/5): Wonderful location and the facilities were fantastic - Great Location. Fantastic Charm. Less instructions. Parking was difficult
- Ernest (5/5): Pretty ordinary Accom. Tiny bedroom. Poor parking. -
- Angelene (9/5): lovely location. very peaceful clean place. had everything. - beautiful location! didn’t meet staff as all was done via email and text but they were great in letting us check in earlier than we should have. clean comfortable and had everything we needed. sadly we didn’t get to use the spa but maybe next time. nothing to dislike. we were very happy as it ticked all the boxes for what we needed.
- Gayan (10/5): Exceptional - really calm location 100%
- Laxman (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angela (7/5): Good -
- Sandra (3/5): Poor -
- Nanette (10/5): Serenity in the forest - Beautiful serene area. All facilities were enough. Nice glass of fortified wine for a late night tipple. Sofa bed needs to be repaired before being used again. Lovely area to explore.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice quiet surroundings. Close to interesting shops and nice driving around to the smal local litrle towns
- Nicole (10/5): - Cute cabin , great place and so so peaceful
- David (8/5): - Comfortable and quiet. Finding the cabin with the keypad took time because of the numbering 1 and 1a, 1a coming before the main residence No 1 (which has a keypad on the gate). It would help if the name of the cabin were tastefully displayed at the entrance.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The accommodation was quaint and extremely clean. The location was difficult to locate as the main road had no signage. If you had GPS this probably wouldn't be an issue. Parking was a major problem as it was extremely tight. If you had a car smaller than a Commodore then this would not be an issue. If all you require is a comfy bed in a quiet area with no frills then this is the place for you.
- Craig (2/5): Didn't stay. - Can't say a lot as we didn't stay.
It sure didn't meet any expectations, it's basically a shed with a bed and bathroom.
My wife refused to stay here so we booked elsewhere.
Not satisfied.
- Robyn (8/5): Cosy cottage in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges - Had a lovely weekend stay in the Charmed Cabin cottage, was lovely when I got there that the outside and inside lights were on (dimmed) and had lovely soft jazz music playing which I thought was pretty cool. Had a slight hiccup with me not being able to receive email they tried to send me to get door code & map (especially for where/how to park) from YRA staff who look after the accommodation - but the person was texting me (as communication is by text or email only) was helpful, patient (I don't know what your name is who I was communicating with but thanks for all your help) I love that it's private secluded and quiet as I really needed to get away to relax and unwind after a very hectic week - I felt very refreshed after my stay there and would highly recommend staying at Lotus Lodges.
- Jules (4/5): Cottage in the dandenongs. - It's very quaint but not worth the amount of money.
Parking was difficult to get into and out of.
Front door and lock is in need of repair.
I fell down the steps into the kitchen. Very narrow little steps.
The supporting beam in the middle of the lounge area needs to be painted in a brighter colour so you can see it and not walk into it.
A few more blankets in the winter would be good. It was very cold at night.
Overall, I felt the cottage was definitely overpriced.
- Sarah (8/5): Pretty cottage hidden in the Dandenong ranges - Pretty cottage hidden in the Dandenong ranges within walking distance of the majority of attractions, walking tracks, unique shops and cafes.
- Barbara (8/5): Really nice position up in The Dandenongs. - Very good, secluded position, so close to all the villages, gardens, lookouts, shops ... also so green and cool.
Very easy drive down to the railway station if you wanted to go into the city by train.
Everything we needed for a comfortable stay, but the glass windows / doors could do with a clean.
Suggestion: a secure fly screen on the balcony door would be a great idea, as you could then leave it open .....
