Guest Reviews
- steven (4/5): - Place looked peaceful in great location but got in our room very dirty no blinds on windows so sun was bright also someone was in our room when we had left for awhile kinda creepy also only 2 towels for the whole weekend stay also very loud with no privacy
- Scott (10/5): - Beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. Courtyard is a peaceful space for relaxing.
- Raushan (10/5): - Excellent place to be, loved the aesthetic and vibe around. Room was beautiful with all the amenities bringing you in the lap of nature. Mark was kind enough to meet personally and explained about property and helped us suggest us good place to explore around!
- Jonathan (10/5): - Very hospitable
- Edwin (10/5): - Very quiet. The bed was very comfortable. Beautiful area.
- David (10/5): - Very comfortable out of the way B&B.
- Cristina (6/5): - The inn was clean and comfortable, the lack of a welcoming and informative presence from the innkeeper detracted from the experience. A more attentive approach to customer service would benefit future guests.
- Jeffrey Matthew (10/5): - Very clean, nice landlord, cute place to stay
- Br. Lawrence (10/5): - Very Quiet peaceful and beatiful
- Edwin (10/5): - This was a very quiet and private stay. The room was beautiful. The bed very comfortable The Host was exceptional.
- Ren (10/5): - It’s a very nice property
- Nancy (10/5): - Very nice place clean easy to get to nice owner
- Kathryn (8/5): - Buck Inn is a beautiful historical building in a very quiet area. I do believe there were crickets in the basement, but fortunately, I love the sound of crickets. Our room, the Van Gogh, was spacious & comfortable. It doesn't have an in-room private bathroom, but since we were the only guests during our stay, the bathroom a few steps down the hall wasn't a problem. This bathroom was only in need of a shelf on which to put our things when getting ready. The in-room coffee/tea, orange juice, cream & yogurt/granola for breakfast was nice. It was kind of Mark to have someone there to meet us, as the house sits way off the road & is quite dark to find & enter for the first time. The outdoor areas are wonderful. This is not a walkable area & one needs a car to get into town, but it is very close to town & easy for our local family to provide our transportation.
- Violette (8/5): - It is a nice quiet place in the woods.
- Joseph (10/5): - Honestly, I loved that it was quiet, with no children and few guests. Exactly what I needed when I was in town for a wedding: a place of peace in between the chaos of such an even.
- Amy (10/5): - What a hidden gem! The artful attention to detail and the feeling of staying with a friend rather than in a hotel made my stay so enjoyable. It’s a little off the beaten path, but well worth the trek.
- Michael (8/5): - Nice place, very different and somewhat remote; does not have all the amenities of a more mainstream motel. But for a basic bedroom in a quiet locale, it was fine. Proprietors particularly pleasant and interesting.
- Maggie (10/5): - We booked a last minute weekend getaway and had a fantastic time in this area. The Buck School Inn was perfect. It was a relaxing and convenient property that we hope to visit again!
- Kim (6/5): - The inn was charming but there was no breakfast. Just had yogurt and granola. Coffee/tea keurig was good. Just would’ve appreciated bagel, muffin etc. Van Gogh room had bathroom in hallway, not in bedroom. It was convenient to our family that was plus to us.
- Boyd (8/5): - I liked the location, and quietness. the rooms was beautiful. I wished bathroom was in bedroom, not in the hall way.
- Adam (10/5): - The Buck school Inn is a beautiful piece of history. Mark has done an amazing job restoring the building. The accommodations were great with a special touch from the owner. Close to town and easy to get to.
- C Robert (10/5): - Great stay. Mark was very accommodating. 2 Minutes from downtown Downingtown.
- Karen (10/5): - Charming, old converted schoolhouse. Onsite owner very accommodating.
- Kim (10/5): - Owner was there to greet us. Atmosphere and history behind the property is very interesting.
Accommodations are fine.
- Kelly (10/5): Cozy and Cute - Cute place! Convenient location for our weekend plans. Cozy and comfortable
- rebecca (10/5): Cozy, unique getaway - What a special place! The building is the product of an incredible restoration project in a great setting. Our room was quiet, cozy, clean, and comfortable. The shared living room area with books, games, and a grand piano was sunny and welcoming. We enjoyed the coffee house and restaurants in Downingtown and visits to Longwood Gardens, Marsh Creek State Park, and the Brandywine Museum.
- Spencer (10/5): - Love the charm of this historic property. If in the Downingtown area, this should be your first choice.
Thanks for making it easy, Mark.
- Branden (10/5): - Location was great, I’ll be honest in saying I’ve never stayed at an in Like this but our experience here was great. Room alone was incredible, the open living space was great too, would love to come back when the kitchen is open again. Never noticed our other neighbors, everyone was very respectful of the space. Our only issue was that it can get kind of bright at night with the living room lights on and flood lights outside the windows but the flood lights turned off exactly when we needed them to.
- Ashima (10/5): - Cute little B&B in a green area of Downingtown. We stayed in the School room which was nice for a weekend stay. Plenty of short hikes within 10 minutes, and decent restaurants (if you like pizza, most of them are pizza places).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The facility was very clean, and private. The kitchen was closed due to covid, but breakfast was placed in our room, and it was fine. Very nice people. Easy to get to, close to things in the area.
- Yon (10/5): Be back next year - Just a nice spot off the beaten path. Would like to be there when the weather is nicer to see things blossoming.
- Miscue (6/5): - The building was lovely as was the gathering room once you stepped inside.
Strong mildew smell from that openstairway to the lower level/basement.
Our room did not include a private bathroom as promised.
It was quite cold inside the Inn and we froze in our bedroom last night.
- Daniel (10/5): - Comfortable, quiet, welcomed
- Greg S. (10/5): Everything desired - Peaceful, great continental breakfast items and nice room and living area available.
- Guy (10/5): An unusual and beautiful inn - My wife and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the inn. The inn is situated in a private setting and has been beautifully restored. The room was comfortable as was the king bed. We even brought our friends back to the inn for lunch instead of going to a restaurant. Our host Mark was friendly and helpful. We would stay again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very cool and unique property. Love the self service check in and beautiful common space! Very rustic feel.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Cozy and quiet. Comfy bed. Good location. Easy to find
- Carol (8/5): Super quiet - Very interesting renovation of an old school building. Comfortable room, quiet and peaceful. Had trouble finding it at 1 am after flight delay as there is no sign and it is in a dark rural neighborhood. Enjoyed the unique environment.
- Laurel (8/5): Lovely Stay - This is a very cute and quaint spot. Lovely living room and kitchen and a very comfy bed. Easy to hang out in your room or in the common area.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - no blanket to keep warm on a cold night.
no breakfast ready at 7:20 the I left
- Rob (8/5): - Nice, quiet but a little hard to find w/o GPS. Would be nice to meet the inn keeper.
- Chris (8/5): - Our first bed-and-breakfast experience.Quite quiet setting. Nicely restored historic property.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The Inn was beautiful but there was no management on site and we never got a key to our room. We were told to "just leave it unlocked". We left our valuables in the car.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Would not recommend
- Verified traveler (6/5): - We never saw any staff, but the building was nice and quiet. It would have been nice to see someone for the breakfast time.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - If you are looking for an acceptable please to lay your head at night, this place will do.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Charming inn but needs a thorough cleaning - The positives are definitely that the structure of the inn itself is charming and there is a cute outside seating area by the front yard. The surrounding area is so picturesque and ideal for long walks. The breakfast was simple with bagels, cereal, fruit, milk, coffee, tea.
The negative for us was the incredible amount of dust in all the rooms. The bedroom especially had so much dust on the floor that a white/grey film covered everything. So much so that my allergies and asthma had a flare up. Would not recommend for those with either of those conditions.
- Andrew (10/5): Great Place! - Great stay we will be back! great work done on the old school house. Small issues, we had a cold and rainy day, when my parents(75) checked in they asked if the heat could be turned up and were told it would. When we arrived back to the Inn it was 65-66 in the house, colder downstairs, by morning it had only reached 68 and that was with additional space heaters. My parents were a bit uncomfortable, i didn't mind so much. we loved the area and the small garden area at the Inn with the firepit, it would have been great if the weather would have cooperated. we would recommend. Enjoyed Beaver Creek Tavern nearby as well.
- Dana (10/5): Beautiful historic building - This historic school house was beautifully and authentically restored by the owner/manager. Great hospitality and accommodations!
- Yaya (6/5): - I didn't realize that this was more of an Air B&B situation, with the homeowner in the space. The rooms are comfortable, but you do need to move through the common area, which is the owner's home. Although the owner is hospitable and friendly and didn't bother me, as a woman traveling alone, I feel uncomfortable staying in a single man's home, and if I had known, I might have made other arrangements.
- Marty (6/5): O.K., but no better - It was a comfortable room, but nothing special. Some minor maintenance would improve it greatly.
- Steve (6/5): Historic old school house B&B, work-in-progress - The place is a beautiful mid-1800's school house, being converted into a Bed and Breakfast. Having experience with other B&Bs, I had expectations of more of a finished product. While the bed was extremely comfortable, and both air conditioning and heating were used during my stay, there were amenities that had yet been worked out. The TV was brand new, but was not connected to cable or any streaming services. The chair and ottoman in the room had seen better days. There was no trashcan in the room, and the blinds did not block out much sunlight, making sleeping-in unrealistic. Being an older building, the doors have gaps at the bottom for airflow, but also let in too much sound and light from the hallway. As this was a school, the walls were not designed to block sound from the adjoining rooms, so each guest could hear what was going on in all adjoining rooms.
Nonetheless, our host was quite friendly, and responsive to our needs. I believe he lives at the property, and seemed to be working on many improvements. The Wifi worked great, and the sitting room was brightly lit, looking out to a beautiful courtyard and the Pennsylvania countryside. For the price paid, this was a reasonable value, so no complaints...only recommendations for improvement.
I look forward to seeing how this property evolves as improvements are implemented over time.
- Tim (6/5): Good location. No amenities. - The location was good. Proprietor not particularly helpful. Breakfast was a piece of fruit and toast your own slice of bread. "Private bath was in the hall and not particularly private. Restored old house was not interestingly restored.
- jonathan b (10/5): Buck School Inn near Downingtown - beautiful place, very nice rooms, owner Mark was very pleasant, welcoming, and helpful
also accommodated our late arrival time
- L. (10/5): Buck school inn - Was very relaxing and the place was absolutely gorgeous.
- scott (8/5): Beautiful older building and grounds. - Location, cleanliness, and overall stay was very good. Little different having the bathroom down the hall, with no way of locking the door (Still don't know how much I liked that) Mark was very nice to deal with, overall a nice location, just a little different is all.
- Verified traveler (6/5): B&B or Air B&B?? - I thought I booked a B&B, but this was an AirB&B per another guest. Different standards. I will say our room got very cold at night. We had to turn on a utility heater that was in the room. Also bathroom was in hallway vs in room. Unique building. Pleasant host. But not what we thought we booked or wanted. Did say minimal housekeeping. But not as clean as it could have been.
- Pilar (10/5): A unique and beautiful weekend - Beautiful renovated schoolhouse. Common Space comfortable, light filled and worked out well for our writing retreat weekend.
- Patricia (8/5): A little hide-a-way - Very quiet and hidden away. The host was gracious and could not do enough for us. The only criticism would be that breakfast was coffee and English muffins. Since I rarely eat breakfast it did not matter to me, but my husband was disappointed.
- Ernest (10/5): Nice place close to Longwood Gardens - It's a very well renovated light and airy old school building, plenty of charm.
