Guest Reviews
- Clive (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights in this lovely pub. - Great pub, excellent food, quiet location. Welcoming hosts. Amazing value! Nothing
- Palfreyman (9/5): - Beautifully refurbished accomodation in a pleasant rural pub with friendly staff.
- Miles (9/5): -
- Lindsey (10/5): The comfy rooms. The delicious food. The friendly staff and locals. We will definitely be back. - Lovely and quaint. Tastefully decorated. There was nothing we didn’t like.
- Kirkby (10/5): Exceptional Experience - A male freind and i stopped at the Foresters Arms in a twin room. The room was comfortable exceptionaly clean, and warm with exceptional wash room facilities. The small bar had an open fire and extensive range of beers, largers and drinks. A purpose built restaurant was in the next room, serving exceptional pub food, we both had blue cheese steak pie, chips and rustic fresh vegetables, for around £18 each. Everything was homemade, piping hot and so fresh. We then sat in a very busy bar, and enjoyed talking to loads of local villagers, and games teams, one local explained to me it was a coumunity pub, and most of the village and shares in it. This little pub, was possibly in a time warp, and is an exceptional experience. Leaving
- peter (9/5): A quiet corner of Coverdale - Friendly welcome, community pub atmosphere, comfortable bed, good shower, delicious food (pies in the evening and breakfast in the morning)
- christopher (10/5): - Everything from initial contact to the momentvwe left.
Room was comfortable.
Warren was the perfect host throughout.
Our evening meal was excellent and breakfast as good as I've ever had. Nothing
- Alison (10/5): Excellent venue with nice food and good location for local walks . Would recommend. - Location, Staff and the food.
Very nice breakfasts every morning. Nice pub and parking available . Room nice size so with all the walking gear this was very good. Bed was too hard but they kindly provided a mattress topper which helped .
Couldn’t get WiFi or mobile connection so don’t arrive with work to do . But it did mean I couldn’t be contacted by family and friends … bonus !!!
You can get connected elsewhere just not in the village. Nice to be off grid for a while.
- Peter (10/5): - Very clean and spacious room. Very comfy bed and linen. Great shower. Excellent food and bar area. Very friendly staff. Brilliant location
- Jackie (10/5): Cosy weekend stay - We were made welcome from the moment we arrived. The village was peaceful and was just what we expected. There was a choice of breakfast for any taste and the same with the evening menu. The staff were friendly and engaging with nothing being too much trouble. We would definitely recommend staying here. Well worth the drive from mid wales.
- Susan (10/5): - Excellent food. Friendly staff
- Steve Brand (10/5): Excellent place to stay and eat - Excellent staff.food excellent.room very good.
- chris (10/5): Great place to stay! - We stayed for just one night, picking our son up from D of E at Aysgarth Falls. The landlord and lady were so friendly, and had a few beers with us. It was a gorgeous hotel packed with character. The bedroom was very clean and the whole stay was so enjoyable. The breakfast was top drawer, and sobtasty. We walked to the waterfall as advised, well worth it. Thanks to the incredible hosts. See you again soon!
- Peter (9/5): Exceptional - Great local community pub. Friendly staff. Great bar with atmosphere. Small menu but great quality for dinner.
- Simon (10/5): Will 100% stay again for a weekend away - Absolutely everything! But the owner was out of this world. A friendly welcome, so accommodating! I’d stay here again in a heartbeat. Nothing. It was perfect!
- Rebeca (10/5): A wonderful place to stay. Would definitely come back! - What did I like? Everything. The staff are friendly. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The landlord and family are wonderful. The village is great and you can tell this place is one of the focal points for the community. The lack of signal (and no WiFi in the room) were a struggle for the first couple of hours but quickly become the norm. It was actually nice to be ‘offline’ for a couple of days.
- Cox (10/5): Exceptional - The food was fantastic
- Sarah (10/5): 3 night break - We stayed at The Foresters Arms in the king room for 3 nights. The service from check-in to check-out was very easy. The room itself was very roomy and the bed was very comfortable. The staff couldn’t do enough, they were very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Places to visit, walks etc. The food was amazing, portions were big and the service was excellent.
- Richard (10/5): Perfect - good for solo travellers, couples and small groups for walking and cycling - I travelled by bicycle and the valley road from the south is the quietest road I have cycled on in a long time. The hosts offer ebike charging and secure inside storage.
The welcome and attention to detail was excellent. The evening meal and especially the breakfast were above and beyond.
The staff were helpful and frequently checked that everything was okay - but without being intrusive.
- Peter (7/5): Good - not enough power sockets in bedroom
very steep stairs to bedroom
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (10/5): Brilliant. - From arriving late and our host waiting and helping us to settle in our room to leaving on Sunday morning, everything was perfect.
Firstly the host are welcoming , friendly and knowledgeable about the area.
We had breakfast every morning and the food was unbelievably tasty.
Talking to the regulars In the pub they also recommended the food (We were at a wedding close by so didn't eat apart from Breakfast)
Our room was very clean and tidy, with everything we needed. Nothing to not like about our stay at the Foresters Arms, highly recommended.
- Jerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): A gem of a find, to quote Annie: “we’ll be back!!!” - A delicious full English breakfast served by owner Diana, who was an absolute diamond of a host. Witty, chatty, she made us feel as if we’d known her for years. The place itself was like stepping back in time, such a genuinely warm and welcoming atmosphere. Co-owner Paul is the perfect landlord, he too was chatty and made us feel so very welcome. We couldn’t fault anything.
- RICHARD (10/5): Outstanding Pub - Brilliantly run pub with great food and lovely king sized room.
The Landlady couldn't have been more helpful. My wife and I had a wonderful stay and hope to return if we return to this area.
- Geoff (10/5): As near perfect a stay as you'd want. Would thoroughly recommend - have rarely felt so relaxed. - Proper country pub in a great location (very picturesque and peaceful) with comfortable rooms - not TOO posh but with everything necessary for a short stay, excellent food and a brilliant hostess, host and staff. Apparently it's a community-owned pub and that shines through. Locals obviously love the place and the people who run it. Very friendly place. Nothing not to like.
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. Diane and Paul were lovely hosts
- Jon (8/5): A Fine Dales Pub. - A last minute booking but very pleased we visited this traditional Dales hostelry. Comfortable room, hearty food and very friendly staff.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely accommodation, very welcoming and friendly. Definitely felt looked after.
- Marcus (10/5): - We had a lovely relaxing stay. The food was some of the best we have ever had in a pub, we can really recommend the Pie with the suet pastry my wife had it both nights it was so good. Breakfast was great as well. Thanks for a great stay, we would love to come back.
- Debbie (10/5): Incredible!! - Beautiful area, lovely place, gorgeous dinner and breakfast! What made this stay so special though was Diana the landlady, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and cared for, nothing was too much trouble. Diana’s attention to detail from extra room comforts to warm milk with coffee at breakfast made you feel like you were staying in a 5 star hotel! We were sorry we were only staying one night. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
- Emrys (10/5): A short break in the Dales - What a great place to stay, with a very friendly and welcoming landlord and land lady. The food was superb and the portions were quite big, also the real ales were very well kept. We would highly recommended the place for a stay or for food, we will be back
- Colin (10/5): Perfect stay in the Yorkshire Dales - We were made welcome from the time we arrived to when we left. The room was lovely.very spacious and comfortable. Despite the fact that the bedrooms are above the bar and dining room we never heard a thing. It was so quiet. We will certainly stay here again and can recommend the Foresters without hesitation.
- thomas (6/5): - Friendly staff, clean, good food, good variety of beers. Good walks on the doorstep and convenient for visiting neighbouring towns.
- Garry (10/5): Great value, great food, great hosts! - Staff are fantastic. Coped with our late returns and couldn't do enough to help and ensure we were fed and watered. Very busy in the main pub on bank holiday weekend, but great and welcoming atmosphere. Beds were comfy. bathroom very small, but adequate. not much.
- Richard (10/5): - Lovely place to stay/ lovely and quiet. Easy check-in. Lovely food and great service. Definitely consider staying here again. Close to lots of areas for lovely walks.
- Norah (10/5): Wonderful place - I would highly recommend staying at this wonderful place .
We had a lovely 2 night stay, all our needs were met the customer service was above and beyond . A wonderful couple who have created such a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere ( Paul Diana )and all the staff .
They truly made us feel welcomed. Food was delicious. Room was spotless. Fantastic views . A very relaxing break away . Just like the rest of the reviews I agree a place I would go back to again . Thank you so much for being so accommodating.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Had a great 2 night stay and will definitely come again. - Friendly, welcoming tenants (a cheerful, helpful couple) and regulars. Lovely warm (from wood fire) bar with all ales well kept, music not too loud. Food, both evening meals and full English breakfast for me, vegetarian for my wife, was very well cooked, tasty and generous quantities. Bedroom very nice, comfortable and clean. Nothing
- Joany (10/5): Little Gem - Stayed for 3 nights with our 2 daughters and little dog Dolly! (Molly) great welcome and lovely food, Paul/Diana made our stay really fun even if we did get stuck in the snow, Picture attached is view from our bedroom window just fab! The sausages give to our dog each morning was much appreciated thank you Diana :) looking forwards to going back in spring when the weather is better. see ya soon guys
The Smiths 😊
- Karen (10/5): Delightful - Clean very friendly excellent food Nothing
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Very welcoming hosts. Lovely traditional pub with a real fire and a good pint. Lovely comfortable clean room. Excellent food served in the evening and a great cooked breakfast.
Would definitely stay again and recommend.
- Simon (10/5): Excellent gem of a pub - We have stayed in many locations over the past few years and this one is simply one of the best. From the minute we arrived we both felt at home and the proprietors and all their staff made us very comfortable in this gem of a community pub. A special mention has to go out to Diana (I’m crap with names so excuse me if this is wrong) who worked tirelessly during our stay and was so full of energy even though she doesn’t appear to sleep. Room comfort, facilities, food and of course location all first class as we experienced a perfect couple of nights. Will definitely be back and if we could we would give this 6⭐️
- Joanna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - The food was excellent The water
- Philip (10/5): We were enchanted by the pub and the place and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. - The breakfast included a choice for all tastes with plenty of variety and the portions were just right and we could take our time and enjoy the ambiance We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and could not find fault with anything. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Fox (9/5): Superb - Excellent hospitality all round. Highly recommend.

- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Food and service was exceptional for both breakfasts and evening meals. Diana was so kind and friendly, a brilliant host.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): A hidden gem with easy access to the other Dales. - Lovely quiet location with minimal traffic outside. Excellent traditional pub building nicely decorated to create a welcoming atmosphere. Clean and well appointed room with good en-suite bathroom. Friendly and very helpful owners, well kept beers, and great food at a reasonable price in the restaurant. Phone coverage a pit patchy, but not the fault of the pub at all.
- Lisa (10/5): Quaint and relaxed stay - A very welcoming stay, cosy pub, quite modern double bedroom, very comfortable, picturesque view. All the staff were great. Breakfast included and delicious.
Evening meal in restaurant also excellent, home made, and all ingredients as local as possible. Definately recommend this, (although quite a drive out if the weather bad)
- Ian (10/5): A little gem in a beautiful spot. - The breakfast and evening meals were exceptionally good. We were very impressed with Diana's cooking. Nothing was too much trouble. The pub had a lovely ambiance and community feel which is rare these days. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone. There was nothing we didn't like at the Forrester's Arms. The only downside for me were the very narrow access roads from West Witton.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Food was excellent Nothing

We can't wait to book again xx
- Dianne (7/5): Good - We had a very friendly welcome.
We had dinner and it was really very tasty! Lovely pies and puddings! Highly recommendable.
It is very quiet although it is next to a road.
The room was clean and so were the facilities and the bed.
Staff was very friendly! Breakfast was ok, but unfortunately there was no fresh fruit or yoghurt. Also, orange juice was not very tasty.
Presentationwise they could do a bit better to feel more homely in the pub itself. It was pretty basic.
The bed was too small for 2 adults and it was extremely hard.
- Jonathan (10/5): Fantastic country pub with great food and spotless rooms - Spotlessly clean. Beautiful traditional country pub with lots of ales and great wines to choose from. Our room was furnished to perfection and spotlessly clean. The restaurant serves fantastically meals that are really good value for money. I would definitely stay there again. Nothing

- Susannah (10/5): Perfect - All food excellent. So warm, welcoming and accommodating. A home from home
- Alison (10/5): Fabulous pub and great location - Arriving at The Foresters you will be met with a warm fire and a warm welcome. Paul and Dianna cannot do enough for all their guests, whether you are just popping in for a pint, dining or staying in the accommodation.
Sometimes Dales pubs can be a little tired and scruffy, not this one! The whole place has been refurbished and in such a way that it retains the charm of a village pub. It is also immaculately clean. Rooms are comfortable and contain everything you may need, including a kettle, fridge and hairdryer.
The hosts take care over the beer, wines and food they serve and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. We were also able to join in with the weekly quiz.
Finally, this pub is in a great location to walk Penhill and visit a host of lovely Dales villages in the area.

- Nicola (8/5): Great location, friendly locals, super hosts and outstanding food (esp the chicken skewers!!) - Location was excellent and you could enjoy the dales from the moment you stepped outside. very dog friendly. The hosts were lovely and the atmosphere was very welcoming. nothing
- Colin (10/5): Very enjoyable stay experiencing superb food and service - We understood that the management team changed 3/4 weeks before we were due to arrive so we were somewhat
concerned about what to expect - very quickly we learnt that the new couple had got full control of everthing including
foods, drinks, guest rooms, new staff team and had also got the locals to return and enjoy the facilities.
Huge efforts had been made to redecorate throughout whilst giving time to all visitors to ensure everyone enjoyed
their visit.
My wife and I were really impressed and could find nothing to criticise - we will be back again without doubt. Nothing it was all good
- Teena (10/5): Lovely relaxing break - Location a little remote
Food lovely
- Neil (9/5): Great beer, bed and breakfast in a gorgeous location. New management with new plans! -
- Alan (10/5): A superior accommodation and service in a beautiful Dale, with lots of quiet trails and lanes. - Excellent home cooked food at all times, exceptional service from Dianne, Paul and Charlotte and incredibly professional management despite the fact that theirs was a 2 week old start up in the property! Impressive, and boded well for their future success, immaculate accommodation and all well enjoyed, we will return. NIL-this was a positive stay with everything exceptional.
- Gerald (7/5): Good - The new licensees were nice and couldn't have been more helpful The place on arrival was an absolute tip the new licensees had only been in for three days and the restaurant was non existent so the food that night was only light bites and after a long journey we were looking forward to good food which was promised in the advert. The television in the room did not work and a partial service was resumed Saturday night. We can only thank our lucky stars that my wife was not severely hurt on arrival as the steps to the front door were badly chipped and she fell. In our opinion booking dot com should not have allowed bookings to be made in this premises untill all the facilities were up and running and checked.
- Simon (10/5): Ace! - We were aware that Paul and Diana had only just taken over The Foresters Arms and that it had been a very busy week for them after moving in. However, we were given a lovely welcome and they pull a pint of Theakston to perfection! The full English breakfast was amazing. This is a very friendly pub in a beautiful location, with great hosts. We will be back!
Thank you,
Simon and Vicky
- Janet (8/5): Yorkshire dales - Friendly hosts . Nice room . Tasty meals .
- Erica (8/5): Community Pub - One night stopover. Room very nicely furnished. Lots of choice of teas, coffee, biscuits and mini fridge with fresh milk. Breakfast was very nice. Not much choice on the night time menu, but what they cook would appear to be very nice, we were unlucky as the specials weren't on for our night. The pub has three bedrooms and caters for all the nearby villages. Pricey but worth a stay.
- Philip (8/5): Gem quiet location - Tucked away but great central location for the Dales. Great food lovely owner and great staff
- Diane (10/5): - Great hosts, comfy bed and room, great food.
- David (10/5): fantastic room - Everything you would want in a country pud. With a fantastic room . Friendly hosts and very good food.
