Guest Reviews
- 980Robert (6/5): Yugokorotei Onsen Hotel - Very nice hotel, however bedding and bathroom would benefit from a deep clean. Marks on doonas etc, lounge in the room needs replacing, tiles in shower area needs a good clean.
However, large outdoor onsen is excellent and seen a lot of outside visitors come and ask to use the onsen. Tattoos ok, if you can bring your own towel, do so and a 100 yen coin for the lockers. Outside onsen is worth the visit and everyone in the onsen is friendly. Overhead a guy from the UK as if swimwear was ok… umm no, everyone is butt naked man and it’s not as weird as you might think. Very relaxing, give it a go if you’re in the area.
Overall, just needs a good clean.
No lift, book dinner in advance if you want to eat there.
- rhondaw859 (10/5): Hot, relaxing and rejuvenating. - Inside Onsen not much, but the outside Onsen is relaxing, surrounded by boulders and snow atop them. Water is hot and leaves you feeling soft, no sulfur smell. 1000 yen for Onsen, 200 yen for towel rental (bring your own), locker 100 yen.
- angelpeg (8/5): Great stay. - Stayed here for 3 nights. Quiet surroundings. Good variety of breakfast (paid separately) in the morning. You can choose the breakfast timing, either 7:30am or 8am. Wish it could be at a later timing though. Onsen was fantastic and clean. There were outside visitors who came and used the onsen. There is a small indoor and outdoor onsen. There is a relaxation room with a kids corner, 2 massage chair which visitors can use for free. Smoking room is located near the relaxation room. There are some board games available in the relaxation room too. Do note that they close the onsen twice a week for cleaning. So check with them. Onsen is available for use 24/7. There is a curfew from 12am to 6am. Main entrance will be locked during those times. And there is a bathing onsen tax of 150yen per pax per day. Chargeable on check out day. Staff are friendly and helpful. Some speaks fluent english while some just nods most of the time.
- Adventurista_12 (8/5): An authentic, relaxing Japanese experience! - I'll dream of relaxing in this onsen lodge when I'm back at work! My boyfriend and I stayed here for 4 nights as part of a ski vacation and really enjoyed ourselves. We don't speak any Japanese but the staff were so kind, patient and helpful despite the language barrie; some spoke a few words of English and otherwise we got by with gestures and bilingual signage. We stayed in a traditional tatami mat room, which could use some updating as the wallpaper was peeling a little, but it was large by Japanese standards, clean, comfortable and had a private 1/2 bathroom (toilet only; showers are done in the gender separated onsen shower room). Meals must be booked when your room is booked and we opted for the breakfast, but not dinner. The breakfasts were beautifully presented and included different offerings each day of small dishes, condiments, fish, miso soup, salad, etc. Some items were challenging to my palate, and some were delicious, but all were fascinating and exotic! There is a free shuttle to/from the bus stop or train station in Niseko, and also a free shuttle to/from Annupuri Ski Resort. The staff are well organized and all transportation must be arranged at least a day in advance. And the onsen! Floating in this soothing hot spring surrounded by huge snowbanks as the flakes floated down is serene. Then slipping on the cotton kimono robe, a yukata, supplied by the lodge and relaxing in the massage chair helped sore ski muscles. Yugokorotei is the "real deal" and we highly recommend staying here!
- jackiq2016 (8/5): Awesome Rotenburo/onsen experience - Booked 2 night stay through a third party. My fault for not reading the fine prints of reservation as apparently booking was only for the room. Staff was wonderful to accommodate same-hour pick up from a
Bus stop where we’re dropped off from Chitose nearby. Upon check in we were told we cannot “upgrade”
The booking to include breakfast or dinner as they are fully booked. Traveling with a kid so tried to negotiate to no avail although we were given recommendations of restaurants/diners nearby which obviously are not much help considering the sub zero weather to walk or commute. Rotenburo is wonderful and so is the ambience. What I hope they can improve on is give priority to stay-in guest for in-house paid meals specially those with young kids. Helps if guests can speak some Japanese but good luck to those who don’t. Will come back for the onsen/rotenburo experience.
- capykyu (10/5): Onsen with fantastic spring water - We visited several onsens in Niseko during our visit and this was probably our favourite. The indoor onsen was nothing to write home about but the outdoor onsen was beautiful. It was surrounded by boulders and the water was very hot. The spring water is reputed to beautify the skin and it certainly lived up to that reputation. Our skin felt so soft and supple after our soak. If you go st lunch time, you can order a fantastic lunch for an additional 100 yen. Their speciality is pork which is bred in their own farm. There is a resting room and even a play area for children. Very authentic! Will definitely visit again when we are next in Hokkaido.
- Phayao13 (8/5): Feels both a municipal bathhouse and a good onsen - Behind unobtrusive doors, Yugokortei hides onsen, gift shop, restaurant and relaxation area. The outdoor onsen has a unique character where you sit in steamy hot mineral waters and see the gigantic snow piles around you.Comfortable relax room right outside the bath where a cold beer tastes extra good after the bath.
- esquire84 (10/5): Awesome onsen - After a hectic day of snowboarding, there's nothing better than laying back and soaking up in one of Annupuri's onsen. Yugokorotei was highly recommended and I cannot sing it's praises enough. There is an indoor pool and an outdoor pool. It's surreal sitting there butt naked and watching snow flakes circle around and land gently by the side of the pool. Once you are done with the soak, head to the tonkatsu restaurant across the hall and eat your fill. In fact, if you go and have the tonkatsu for lunch, you can access the onsen for a nominal fee of 100¥ only, which is a steal.
Note to foreigners - please do not bring your drinks into the pool, or soak your towels in the water. The locals are too polite to point this out but this is against Japanese custom.
- limk687 (6/5): Visitors need education - This place has a nice outdoor onsen pool but the facilities such as common bath area and amenities are quite limited. The onsen pool is shared by both walk in visitors and accomodation guest. The walk in guest are mainly Caucasians who have no idea of onsen etiquette. They bring their beer into the pool, talk loudly as if it's a pool party. The environment is actually very serene and beautiful with snow covered rocks and trees surrounding your peaceful escape in the hot pool. But unfortunately, it serve visitors who are educated enough.
- Mouriska (10/5): Great Onsen Hotel - This is my 3rd time in Yugokorotei! Still very good and this year was totally full house!
They have much more staff and some of them can speak better english! Great job!
Remember to try their set lunch!
- Michael_Melb_77 (8/5): Great way to spend a relaxing afternoon - Visited the outdoor onsen about 10mins drive away from Grand Hirafu and wasn't disappointed. After the washing ritual you head outdoors to the segregated onsen area, where you sit in the hot natural spring water surrounded by snow and trees. Just magic! And the perfect antidote for sore muscles after a day on the slopes.
- 224enriquec (10/5): Unbeatable après-ski - First onsen experience for a friend of mine and myself and we loved it! The outdoor pool, big-sized with a wooden pergola and rocks, surrounded by nothing but trees and snow, was really amazing. Add to this that snow was dumping, and the experience becomes unforgettable. The water was really, really HOT. You'd better stay a bit away from the source if you want to stay for more than five minutes. Afterwards, we spent half an hour just sitting down in a relax room. You can have dinner at the place, which is really cozy.
Go if you can!!
- TravelRoge (10/5): Wonderful outdoor bathing experience - I am a reasonably onsen-goer (at least for a gaijin!). I think that this onsen offers the best experience of any place I have been in Japan, let alone the Niseko ski area.
The changing rooms and shower area are nothing special: lockers take 100 JPY which is refunded when you exit. There are mirrors and hairdryers. There is shampoo, conditioner and body wash but none are anything particularly special. When you head to the outside door though...
This onsen has a stunning setting and ambience. When you step outside into the cold you walk into a pool that has been made from giant boulders carefully arranged to border the large bathing area.
There are strategically placed shelves discretely placed between the rocks for you to perch on. There is a covered shelter if it is snowing or raining and the steep bouldered slopes on the edge of the pool are beautifully snow covered. It is a wonderful place to relax and reflect on a hard days skiing. Our whole group loved it and it deserves your repeat business.
The relaxation area afterwards has free massage chairs which if you haven't tried a Japanese one are a real experience. They also sell delicious Hokkaido drinking yogurt (or Sapporo beer if you fancy something alcoholic). There are also some very nice Japanese tea sets available too. I can't recommend this highly enough.
- Kirtar (10/5): Best onsen in Niseko! - Absolutely best onsen in Niseko. Very Nice oudoor pool and lounge. Went here 7 days in a row. If your realy lucky you might get the whole pool to yourself.
Pros
+ authentic
+ oudoor pool feels like your in natural (not man made pool)
+ very Nice lounge to relax yourself after the bath.
+free massaging chairs
+ its prety far from everything ;)
Cons
- stupid western/chinese tourist who disrispect the onsen code
- stupid wester people who can ruin your authentic experience in a heart beat ;)
- JunoLin (10/5): Transitional Japanese style hotel - That was a small hotel but everything was nice.
Hotel staffs were kind and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were so delicious.
The room has no shower room, you need to go to Onsen. After shower can go to rest room. There are two Auto massage chairs for adults, kids play at the kids area.
The hotel is near Moiwa ski resort. Hotel has free shuttle to go there.
Everything was perfect. We would like to stay there again.
- Mouriska (10/5): Still Very Good - After one year, we decided to be back again to Yugokorotei.
Nice and Clean Room, Nice Onsen, Nice Dinner, Nice Breakfast, Friendly Service.
Just hope in the future they will improve some staff can speak english.
Keep Going! We will be back to Yugokorotei for the future!
- Markus_The_Onsen_Guy (8/5): Onsen: Small but Nice outdoors and warm indoors - We went and tried the onsen at this place and I found the atmosphere quite nice in the outdoor pool with lots of snow an arms reach from the pool edge. The indoor pool was very warm but a bit small and the washing facilities were average.
For adults its 700yen without towels, 250yen more if you also want to rent a bath and washing towel. You can also get a stamp card that will give you the 5th visit for free if you ask for it.
- Mouriska (10/5): Excellent Natural Hot Spring Hotel - The hotel is nicely located. Our room is Tatami style is comfortable, simple and clean, located in 3rd floor! And our booking included the breakfast is traditional Japanese breakfast (felling special) and the Dinner is also traditional Japanese dinner (good quality of food and very good service). Good price, good place (super near of the Niseko Annupuri)! U can have free, but not fast wifi in the room! The Public bathroom and the hot spring was amazing!!! And the hotel have two free massage Chair in the living room!
Keep Going!!! We will be back as soon as possible!!!
- Palenru (6/5): Disappointment - The hotel from the outside looks better than it is. The rooms are small, you can hear the neighbors conversations, television and outdoor noises, it was hard to sleep at night.
The bathrooms are small, but very nice outdoor bathroom at night.
