Guest Reviews
- Amr (10/5): Stay here every year - Clean room, nice view, helpful staff The sheets could be replaced due to wear and tear
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - It was very peaceful and had beautiful areas for walking and viewing the lake.
- Nicole (10/5): Call before reserving to make sure you don’t clash unexpectedly with a seminar. Fantastic stay if you go for spiritual b - Very nice staff. This location is a site to help troubled men with recovery and will host groups for events. I thought this location was offering rooms during off season times to continue getting income when not hosting events. We were told as we were checking in there was a group event happening the weekend we were there. Ok, no problem. But it turned into 6am bell (literal cow bell) wake up call on Sat morning for the group and inspirational Christian rock until midnight blasting so loud it was vibrating our floor and ear plugs couldn’t solve. The location is gorgeous with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. The people were wonderful and it was a nice location for a weekend getaway. This was no one’s fault but it would be good practice to reach out to people who book that are not part of a group outing to give them a heads up that an event is happening in the same time you’re there or see if another room is available in a different cabin to relocate away from activities. Had we know there was an event happening we would have booked elsewhere.
- Kimberly (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Excellent retreat, wonderful hosts - Very impressive retreat all to ourselves that weekend. Beautiful suite with everything you need and gorgeous lake views. Serene surroundings extremely quiet and relaxing nature. The walls seemed poorly soundproofed but it didn't bother us since we were the only ones there. Somewhat far from everything else but that's what we wanted in the first place.
- John (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing spot to relax refresh and start a new week
- Kerri (7/5): Good - Location, clean and friendly Check in and check out was confusing.
- Melissa (9/5): I had a great trip and the staff was kind and helpful. - I like the interior decor, and sitting on the swing chair by the lake and hiking the trails. I wish there were more activities to do but I would have to return in spring or summer to do that.
- Alice (9/5): Enjoyable place - Very quiet and clean. Location is far away from any other places such as restaurant. Once outside gets dark I did not want to go outside to get things to eat. I think it should suggest to bring in some edible things since nothing else around the property.
- Scott (10/5): Perfect Spiritual getaway. - The location was perfect. It was very quiet and romantic. I was able to spend quality time with my spouse and we had time to reflect on our lives and relationship. For us we liked everything at the retreat. The staff and retreat was perfect in our eyes.
- Jim (4/5): Poor customer service. - The suite was spacious, clean and comfortable, with the exception of the HVAC system. The HVAC system. 1. There is a locked cover on the thermostat!! 2. The HVAC system needs work, the second floor was 83 degrees and the first floor was uncomfortably cold. 3. The walls are paper thin, there was loud noise infiltration from the dining hall and the suites next door. 4. The WiFi was problematic, I had to call the manager and he gave me a different login than the one on the card in the room. 5. Because there was church group there, my son and I were inconvenienced and pretty much ignored. It took me 30 minutes after I arrived to find the manager to check us in and show us to our room, I found him by walking into the dining hall kitchen!
- Keith (10/5): Excellent service - Cozy Feeling - Nice Room with lake view from balcony - Vincent was very helpful in getting us checked in and set up with a Wi-Fi password. He offered also offered assistance in bringing luggage in from the car. He was also very helpful throughout our stay and provided information on a restaurant in the area. The view of Norwich Lake was spectacular. We had a wonderful stay in the "off season" and enjoyed the balcony very much. The area was very peaceful at night. I recommend The Retreat at Norwich Lake for a quiet get-away and an enjoyable stay. Service was excellent and views of the lake from the balcony were beautiful. Newly refurbished bathroom was very nice!
- Jonathan (10/5): GREAT TIMES - Great Staff and Property! Friendly Horses! THANK YOU !! Nothing
- Dianne (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our suite was super clean and comfortable. We loved the view of the lake. The staff is s - Peaceful atmosphere, clean, comfy and cozy suite. Not much to say here… WiFi is a little spotty but not bad.
- Marybeth (10/5): Lovely serene location, a place to get away from it all. - Gorgeous room and location.
Vinny caretaker very friendly I would stay here again in a minute. But not in the winter. The dirt roads going up to it would give me pause.
It’s not that I minded but it is a religious retreat. A lot of bible quotes- it was fine but if it’s not your cup of tea would be good to know.
- Sandra (8/5): Very good - The manager Vinny was very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. The location was rural and remote in a tranquil lake setting. We opted for the director’s quarters which was a spacious apartment.
- Amanda (4/5): Zero sound proofing - Large rooms, nice views My partner and I stayed in one of the suites. The walls are paper thin and you could hear everything/everyone in the lodge. We could hear entire conversations in the room next to us when people were talking at normal/low volumes. There was a group of loud younger people staying at the retreat with us and you could hear them carrying on all night. I don’t blame them because they weren’t even that loud, more blame the hotel for the lack of noise proofing. We didn’t sleep at all.
- Estrella (9/5): Beautiful lakeside retreat, spacious and stylish, but had spotty WiFi connection. - The property was exactly as advertised.
Stunning decor and incredible view of the lake.
Comfortable, spacious, and filled with tasteful amenities.
Perfect, tranquil retreat for relaxation. The WiFi was not good, which could be inconvenient for those needing to stay connected or in case of emergency
- Monica (10/5): There was so much to do! On the property you could use their field, beach, fire pit, trails, or game courts and there ar - Absolutely beautiful, peaceful and clean! Nothing!
- Alan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marilyn (9/5): This place is a gem. - A lovely place that I would gladly return to. Everything was clean and well kept. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of towels, hot water, pillows, and so on. Peaceful and beautiful. I especially loved that the hours from 10 p.m. till 8 a.m. are considered “quiet time.” A few additional things could make the experience even better, such as a small table in the room, a full length mirror. And access to paper towels and tissues in the room.
- Mark (9/5): Total relaxation in a four-star location. - We had the place to ourselves. Nobody had booked Memorial Day Weekend. We were astonished to find that out.
The place, the beds, the canoes, the furniture, all of it was above par. There are no closests to hang clothes in. There are hooks, so we asked for some hangars and hung everything on the hooks.
There are no independent thermostats in the room.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): This was a much welcoming retreat! Loved it! - Peaceful! Beautiful! Nothing
- John (10/5): Beautiful, relaxing and comfortable accommodations! - Lovely place! We stayed in a lodge room with an incredibly comfortable king bed. Nice hot shower in nicely appointed bathroom. Beautiful morning view of the lake. Staff super nice and helpful. Since it’s truly a retreat there is no TV in the room, which was surprising but fine - a nice break from noise! Husband watched TNF on his phone to get his football fix. Hope to stay again! Snacks to purchase for late arrivals!
- Margaret (9/5): Superb -
- Steve (8/5): Comfortable and very affordable - Beautiful property hidden away No real amenities but clean and very comfortable.
Primarily for groups but glad we were able to find it on your site.
Most everything decent was sold out as it’s leaf peeping season. We were there for Smith College parents weekend and this was about 30 minutes away.
- Holiday (9/5): Superb -
- Laura (2/5): Very poor - nice owners, but not OK to be woken up and missing standard amenities like toilet paper. Multiple phone calls were asking when we would arrive. I can see if this was a bed and breakfast, but it was not listed that way. We were working very long hours and felt pressured to notify the owners when we would arrive. I appreciated that they were getting their kids to bed, but this is why we did not book and B&B. We are working and really needed and paid for a good bed and quiet, we did not get that. It is a lovely place, but being woken up and having to bang on the owners doors at 3:20 am after being awake all night due to other guests blaring music and howling and chanting until we finally did was awful. We were only there to get a good nights sleep and for only 10 hours and chose this place because of the good reviews. The problem is that it is a place that does not cater to an individual guest but rather to large groups. The fact that the owners could not hear what could only be described as BLARING noise was troublesome. We could hear the other rooms talking LOUDLY when they came in after 11pm. There is also no cell service and no phones in the rooms which I find really dangerous. If the owners are so isolated from guests then they need to make an alternative phone very available. The wifi password had to be asked for, as being a religious retreat they discourage use of computers or phones. If you are just staying as a guest, that doesn't work. After we had to go knock on their door for that, we noticed that we had no hand soap or toilet paper in the room. We went to the downstairs bathroom and pulled a lot off at midnight to use but not a good experience to have to go get dressed in order to get toilet paper. Nice owners need to either not rent to regular guests or change their operations. Also beds were uncomfortable and there is an attack hatch over the larger bedroom. The king bed had large dents in it. If there were any other options to sleep, we would have left if it were within 75 miles.
- Wanderlust06 (10/5): Exceptional - The retreat is located at a lake with possibility to swim or use boats or canoes that are provided for free. The place is vert quiet an relaxing. Minor problem: No shops close by. need to drive about 15-20 min. Very nice farmers market on rt 66
- Wendy (10/5): Amazing property - You drive on an unpaved road for quite a while to get to the Inn. Once you get there, there is the most beautiful place that looks like a large log cabin. It is right on the lake and there are trees everywhere. One of the most beautiful areas that I’ve been to. The room is huge and very comfortable. I also had a balcony that overlooked the lake. Perfect to sit with a glass of wine and stare at the sights.
- bushra (8/5): Great retreat - Amazing. All was well.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - The Retreat at Norwich Lake was terrific. Room was quite lovely with plush carpet and a comfortable bed. The retreat is right on Norwich lake. A short drive down a dirt road is required to reach the retreat. There was no TV in the room but that was not a problem as the retreat has WiFi coverage. Would definitely stay here again.
- Nicola (10/5): Stunning lodge - The Retreat at Norwich Lake is amazing. The site is unbelievably beautiful, it is situated right on the lake, and there are boats, canoes and hiking trails included in the cost, as well as horses on site which can be ridden for an additional fee. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the rooms are really comfortable with great views. I highly recommend this place.
- Juliana (10/5): Beautiful cabin - It was just what we were looking for. A secluded beautiful cabin-type hotel where we could see the snow and play some board games near a fire. We had an awesome time, the staff was ver friendly and helpful. Will definitely be coming back for the fall.
- Donnie (10/5): Very quiet and secluded by a beautiful lake - My children of four and my wife enjoyed a beautiful New England setting. Everything was clean and well managed. It was a memorable stay for sure!
- Jane (10/5): I was there to get away for a night, perfect spot - The staff was wonderful, the lodge perfect. I was there to get away for a weekend. This is definitely the perfect spot. However when I saw various amenities I knew I would come back for less solitude. My children and grandchildren would love it, the lake, the canoes, the swimming, tennis, trails to hike. This is a perfect place for a family get together.
The room I had was beautifully done, the balcony looking down the hill to the lake was magnificent, it was spotless and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Awesome! - Spoke with Grace on the phone and she was very kind and helpful. A gentleman checked me out and he was very nice also. Room was great and comfortable. Wish I had arrived earlier to enjoy the rest of the property and the amazing views from the balcony of the lake. Can't wait to come stay again!
- steve (10/5): Plesantly surprised - Got there at 6:00 at night wish we got there earlier their was so much to do staff was very friendly even built a camp fire for us great time wish we could have stayed longer we will stay again
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice cabin next to a lake. - This place is fantastic!!!beautiful views, quiet calm and peaceful.the pictures don't do this place justice.the only problem I had was in the description of the lakeside cabin it says there is wifi, mini fridge and ect,and there was not.not too big of a deal but it makes bringing juice/milk and snacks for kids more difficult.the beds could have been more comfortable, but it was fine.also if you have a problem with not being able to lock your door then this place isn't for you as there are no locks.with that being said I never once felt like our safety/security was at risk,as the staff is 5star.this place might be something my friends and family will use a coupple times a year.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great suite in a beautiful rustic setting - Beautiful site, building brand new. Suite was wonderful: clean, quiet and had a gorgeous sunset view of the lake. Staff both friendly and thoughtful.
- Ryan (10/5): Can I stay on the lake? - This place was amazing and unique. The scenery was beautiful, the staff friendly and helpful, everything was new and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable while the outdoors provided any necessary opportunities for activities. 1 of a kind stay in this area
- Daniel (10/5): Wonderful place! - The staff is absolutely wonderful, the grounds are beyond beautiful and the building is fantastic! Can't say enough nice things about this place. Would recommend to all!
- Richard (10/5): Unwind and enjoy - Beautiful new lodge designed for relaxation. Will come back to enjoy the amenities of the lake in warmer weather.
- Verified traveler (8/5): a quiet winter's night - A pleasant welcome from our hosts, great view of the frozen lake. Good wifi and a peaceful night free of TV. Coffee and tea in the room.
- Mark (10/5): Gem in the bush - The retreat is amazing really friendly staff great rooms and the views are awesome. Worth it for anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle
- michael (10/5): away in the woods by a lake - A truly exceptional pleasure in the middle of nowhere. Peaceful and comfortable. Good for quiet reflection, long walks, or sitting around with family or friends. No amenities and the local area means a 15 to 20 minute drive, but hey, you stay here for the peacefulness of the lodge and sounds.
