Guest Reviews
- Joseph (10/5): - Mustafa was excellent!
- Gregory (10/5): - This review is very, very late as we stayed in January/February. We absolutely loved this riad! The staff were fantastic. They were so helpful and friendly. Breakfast each morning was wonderful and it was the best orange juice we've ever had! We especially liked coming back to the riad in the afternoon for some mint tea on the patio before heading back out sightseeing.
During our 2 weeks in Morocco we travelled around the country a bit, but we couldn't wait to get back to Marrakech and to Dar Essalam. We had dinner in the restaurant our last night and the staff pulled out all the stops and we truly felt like VIPs. We loved it and the staff were truly wonderful. It was a great stay!
- Ian (8/5): - Everything about the hospitality and room was excellent. The staff were always on hand to help and nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed in the Luxury Room which was spacious, comfortable and decorated nicely. However (and this is the only reason for leaving a star off the rating) it is situated beneath the roof terrace which is popular and has a bar open until 11pm. We did invest in some earplugs and they helped somewhat. If you are out anyway until late at night enjoying Marrakech then this won’t be an issue for you!
- Keith (10/5): Highly recommend this property - Friendly staff and excellent location.
- Robert (8/5): - Staff was very friendly and property was amazing
- Rania (4/5): - Most of the staff was so kind and helpful. However, my first night, as I put in my previous check-in review, was miserable. The construction literally right outside my window went past 5:30am and I did not sleep at all. When I called to the front desk for help, the man told me I should go tell the workers to stop. Obviously this is absurd, and I told him that in fact HE needed to address the issue. It didn’t make a difference. The yelling from the workers and non-stop construction sounds continued and kept me from sleeping at all.
- Marcelo (10/5): Excellent stay - Very good riad, well placed. The room was very confortable. The breakfast was really good and I loved the restaurant show in the evening.
- Marvin (10/5): - The staff was very welcoming and always greeted me with smiles. The room was secluded and very cozy! Being able to stay in a 17th century Riad was an amazing experience!
- Hiteshkumar (10/5): - The royal suite was very spacious and staff was very welcoming and helpful!
- luisa (10/5): - Excellent location . Superb service
- Abdalla (2/5): - This place should not be on Expidia it’s very dirty place not Hotel it’s Airb&bthe most Expensive place in Marakich very dirty place the charge $160 an night
- Ivan (10/5): Richly decorated plush riad in the heart of town - Most people went here to dine in the dining room where "The Man Who Knows Too Much" was filmed, but when we actually stayed in this location, you surround yourself in plush and beautiful decor, and we got to walk around in the morning with no other guests around from one dining room to another instead of the during the bustling belly dancing dinner time. The room is nicely decorated with only 2 small windows that your hand can barely fit in, but we were there in May so there's no need for A/C (provided in room). Very close to Jemaa al-Fna but go to the souks on the north side for better deals and selections on food and items instead. Service was super nice and the lady accommodated our requests with a smile. One of the best stays in our 3-week driving trek in Morocco.
- Nicholas (10/5): Fantastic Experience. Exceptional - Not enough words to express how great this property is. In the heart of the old city and just steps away from all the major sites you’ll wish to see. What made this so special for myself was not only the Riad and it’s rooms as well as the building itself and the spectacular restaurant and the vast amount of history within it but the staff were always available to assist. With a friendly sincere smile in the morning to assisting with directions or setting up excursions to the Atlas Mountains or a special dinner out. I can honestly say that this is a hidden gem that will make your trip a special one. Many thanks to Soumia and all the staff. I have traveled the world and this I rate as “Highly recommended”. Don’t be fooled by the price. Read the reviews it will not disappoint.
- Mark (10/5): - Beautiful riad on the border of the Old Medina. Wonderfully restored and maintai n ed. Exceptional staff and service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Moroccan Dream Riad - Loved this riad. Staff super friendly and kind, Royal Suite off the chart. Great location only a few minutes walk from the action.
We arrived at the end of Ramadan and celebrations were in full swing. The restaurant next door was buzzing. We arrived late evening, popped in for a drink and felt like we had been transported to another world. Belly Dancing, candle dancing and music. Fantastic.
- Carl (10/5): - In the heart of the Medina you are close to everything. A very short walk to get a taxi. The rooms look like the photos. You will not be disappointed. You do have to walk up and downstairs. Service staff are excellent and friendly.
- Sharon Jayne (10/5): - This is a brilliant place to stay. It’s right in the heart of everything. The staff are really helpful. We stayed in Scherezade, a lovely room with its own terrace, just be aware it’s at the top of 3 flights of stairs.
- Anthony (10/5): - My wife uses a mobility scooter and the hotel was located in a great area. The staff allowed us to leave the fold up scooter behind the reception desk so we did not have to carry it upstairs.
Breakfasts were excellent, staff helpful and chatty. Very historic riad, the roof terrace is currently being renovated but the potential is there. The views around the riad were atmospheric. Good shower and biscuits and fruit provided in your room. We are planning to come back next year but maybe earlier in March as weather started to get a little too hot.
- Clinton (10/5): - The property and room were delightful. Soumia was fantastic at getting sent off to various excursions and confirming some itinerary changes. We enjoyed breakfast each day. Thank you Soumia and all for making our visit and stay wonderful!
- Aijing (10/5): - The room was beautiful and spaces. We love it a lot. The restaurant in the hotel is fantastic! Best Tagine we had in Morocco. The staffs speak very good English and very helpful! The room was always cleaned nicely and on time. The only disappointment was that the terrace was in renovations and we didn’t have a common area to hang out.
- Neil Brian (10/5): - A great place to stay and convenient for the main square
- Joquin (4/5): - Nice people. However - breakfast was cold, late, slow - not good. The TV never worked - they tried, but no luck. The major problem was cigarette smoke seeping into our room from the stairwell - for anyone with respiratory issues, you might contact them directly to make sure they resolved this problem. They moved us to a higher room, which had less - not zero - problem of cigarette smoke floating up, apparently from an employee's room of some kind. By the second night, we were coughing. Yuk. Otherwise, an interesting and historical place.
- Preetesh (10/5): - Our 2 night stay at Riad Dar Es Salam was fantastic. We stayed in the Royal Suite and the name was absolutely apt. The mosaic on the walls and the wood paneling on the ceiling along with the staff’s attention made it a place we would highly recommend. Soumia who was the person at the front desk was probably the best customer service person we have interacted with in all our travels across the world. Her attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond to help us be comfortable and well informed was amazing. Thank you again Soumia and Dar Es Salam staff for providing us a great time in Marrakech.
- Brian (10/5): - We loved the location and the hosts are amazing!
- James (10/5): An amazing Riad experience - We stayed at the Riad dar essalam for several nights in November this year. First let me say that service we received was absolutely wonderful. Somia, our front desk supervisor, was incredible in helping us with our travels in and about Marrakech and always went above and beyond our expectations. All the other Riad staff were friendly and always eager to help.
The Riad itself was well located in the Medina and has several terrific restaurants that provide excellent food and entertainment.
We highly recommend the Riad dar Essalam to anyone considering visiting Marrakech.

- Lietze (10/5): Amazing Riad in Marrakech - We have stayed at a lot of hotels and this is definitely one of the best. We stayed at The Royal Suite for 5 nights. The Royal Suite is spacious. The Riad is beautiful, location is great, but what made it so special was everyone at the hotel was amazing, especially Soumia. From day1 when she checked us in, she gave detail information about Marrakech, helped us book local tour and went above and beyond to make our stay special.
- carol (10/5): - Beautiful hotel! Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff who worked so hard to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Would definitely recommend!
- umer (10/5): - Absolutely stunning property if you want to stay in an authentic Morroccon property.
The pictures don't really do the property justice.
The staff at the property was very friendly and the restaurant next door had amazing food.
The location is excellent, a few minutes from both the sqaures in the market. Absolutely worth staying and well worth your money.
- Hector (10/5): - Great place ! Highly recommended. The restaurant is very good, the rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the employees go out of their way to make your experience amazing.
- Blane (6/5): - Great riad, but no room service and the drains were clogged.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Staying in a museum - First of all, the riad was built in the 17th century. It is a museum itself. The architecture, door knobs, plates and utensils are history coming to life. Second, the staff were absolutely wonderful. They welcomed me with open arms and open hearts and made me feel like part of their family. They helped me with everything I needed. My staying at the riad has exceed my expectations. I plan to come back again and again with my family and friends, In shaa Allah.
- Weyni (10/5): Yes to this Tiad and the wonderful team. - Soumia was the perfect host. She is probably the most hospitable person ever. My daughter and I stayed for 5 days at this beautiful Riad in the heart of the city. We were steps away from the Souk and a short cab ride to other attractions. We were served a delicious breakfast every morning by Fettah who was beyond accommodating and kind. The Riad itself is opulent and over the top. We loved it. We will come visit the Riad the next time we are in Marrakech for sure.
- Susie (8/5): - The staff was extremely attentive. Didn't care for the stale breads and pastries served in the morning. Super close to the souks and many restaurants.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely historic Riad. The staff looked after us and our room had a nice terrace. We also had access to a private roof terrace as well which was fantastic for sunrise and sunset. Bed was very comfortable. The only downer was the amount of noise you could hear from the room, but this is an old building along a very noisy road and next to a couple of restaurants. However if you want to be in the middle of the bustle of Marrakech, you can't escape that. Ear plugs required.
- Leslie (10/5): Awesome Stay! - The staff is extremely helpful upon my first time at Marrakech, giving me advice and tips of what I should pay attention to. The hotel location is very convenient. I enjoyed my 2-night stay here very much.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wow! Wow! Wow!
My family & I stayed 3 nights in the Royal Suite @ Riad dar Essalam. My daughter summed it up best by saying she felt like she was Princess Jasmine from the movie Aladdin.
The property is in a 17th Century Palace in the heart of the Marrakech action.
My wife, 15 yo daughter, 10 yo son, 3 yo son, & I took a taxi from the Train Station ($8) to a 'drop off' circle. Cars are not permitted in much of the Medina. The driver dropped us off & pointed down a busy street lined with vendors. We walked, suitcases in tow, through the craziness of shops, motorbikes, donkeys, etc. down a narrow cobblestone street to the Riad. The Riad is approximately 200 meters from the drop off point. Several locals asked where we were going & offered assistance.
Not one asked for $ for the their help. At this point many people would be nervous, scared, apprehensive, maybe even regretful. My family LOVED it!
When we reached Riad dar Essalam, we were utterly blown away. The Palace is stunning! We were met by the friendly & helpful Hajima who offered us tea & explained the area as our room was prepared.
When we entered our room, we were all left speechless. The photos do not do this place justice. Our 'room' consisted of 2 bdrms, 2 bthrms, & an amazing 'sitting room' with with 4 sofas. The bdrm & sitting room had 30 ft ceilings w/ spectacular tilework, carvings & stained glass. The room had a pleasant aroma of amber.
This was an unforgetable authentic experience!
- Sophia (10/5): Beautiful riad with the best manager Karima - Karima is an absolute diamond, such a lovely lady. Warm and welcoming, she did absolutely everything to make our stay spectacular and went out of her way for us and treated us as family. Lovely room, very traditional and in a good location and the restaurant food is lovely too!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff is so nice and helpful.
Good place to stay in Marrakech.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely Riad very easy to find - Fab stay at Riad Dar essalam lovely staff, good restaurant and evening entertainment
- Stephanie (6/5): Almost amazing - A very nice suite, but the staff was difficult to find when we needed help. We ordered an airport pickup through the hotel and were left waiting for almost an hour for an unprofessional driver in a dirty car. We called the riad multiple times asking what the issue was and were told "he's on the way" multiple times. After the mess with the airport transfer we were still charged the full amount! We also tried to call the reception desk a couple times during our stay, but no one ever answered.
- francis (6/5): Not a 5 star Riad! Look elsewhere! - We stayed at the riad essalam for 2 nights in may 2017. Overall, we were not impressed by the hotel. First, they welcome you with an information séance with is useful. That’s where the service ends. Often, there is no one at the reception. Maybe some one will be there between 9-10am to 5pm. Also, there is only one Stuart for all the guests. In the mornings at the breakfast, the Stuart did the setup with the cold breakfast. However, he does not comes often to check if the guests have arrived at the tables, resulting in no service , and most importantly, no drinks. We had to walk ourselves in the hotel and restaurent to tell the Stuart that we have arrived. Also, the rooms are small, except if you have the royal suite. In our room, the shower head was spraying water all over the place. Not the kind of shower head I has expecting from a 4 or 5 star hotel. Location is good, near the central place of the Medina. My recommendation would be to book with a near Riad, called Riad Annabelle. We had a 5 star service there, the rooms were sublime (even the small rooms are sublime), the welcoming cocktail was better with fresh bakery, and the food is home made by their staff. ( they have lots of staff, not just one Stuart) . Don’t get fooled by the nice pictures if you want service!
- Mark (10/5): Good location, great staff - Great location if what you're coming to Marrakech for is to be in the hustle and bustle of the medina, and close to Jemma El Fna. deck outside our room and the rooftop deck provided great views of the medina and the Atlas Mountains. The riad staff was great and responsive to our needs and questions, both before our arrival and during our stays. Karima made arrangements for a driver to meet us at the airport. Our room, and the whole riad was clean and well-taken care of. Cookies and fruit, and bottled water were waiting for us in our room when we arrived. We had arranged for a three-day trip to the desert while there, and when weather threatened to cancel our trip, Karima was there to make sure we were taken care of, either with a room at the riad, or a different trip outside Marrakech. Fortunately, our trip was a "go." Dinner at the riad's restaurant is a must - good food and drink and a show. Only thing I would add is, it could use better lighting.
- Jamie R. (8/5): Nice Guest House - Friendly staff, clean and right where you want to be if you want to stay in the Médina near the square. Though the room was nice for not being a hotel it was a bit dark with lighting.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect location, amaing atmosphere, great staff - From the warm welcome and attentive care, to great help with all enquiries and arrangements, te staff were exemplory. The decor, is real and very exotic throughout all parts of the palacial builing. We dined one night and were delighted by the exqisite quisine, service and amazing musicians and dancers. We hope to return next year for longer.
- Mohamed (8/5): Very nice place to stay in old part of Marakech - Excellent location within 5 minutes walk to Jame El-Fanaa. Very helpful staff that are eager to help and assist. Very nice accommodation with nice restaurant downstairs.
- Greta Lily (8/5): - The staff are excellent. Karima is a fabulous host she's a very kind lady and the guy who help us in our morning breakfast which I forgot his name cannot ask for more. It was a different experienced but highly recommend to stay in Riad again. Good location just a few minutes walk to few places.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Great staff, good food but ... - The staff at this riad were excellent. Friendly, helpful and multi-lingual. The breakfast was also good. But the hotel itself is a rennovated riad in a very old building on a far side of the medina. It is a far walk from any parking area. The room lighting is very dim, too dim to put on make-up for example. The stairs to the second floor rooms are narrow and slooping down, risk of falling if you slip. The rooms are narrow like all riads but this one does not have a beautiful center courtyard as most riads do so there is nothing to look at. The riad is mostly known for its tourist restaurant and floor show. Indeed, the food was very good. They seem to have a large group every night and are far more equipped as a restaurant than as a hotel. That said, the staff was excellent and the rooms comfortable enough.
- Richard (10/5): Gluten free breakfast - When the hostess Karina found out that I prefer a gluten free diet she could not have been more helpful, the staff prepared a homemade gluten free flat bread which was served warm each morning..... delicious! They also gave us fresh fruit and my partner enjoyed the usual cakes and pastries
- Fleur (10/5): Extraordinary! - This is an awesome riad. I have never stayed in one before but I doubt there are any much better than this one. Beautiful traditional Islamic decor in every room. We stayed in the Royal Suite which is truly palatial and stunning. The staff are so welcoming and friendly they make you feel like family. A lovely breakfast is also included in the price. I cannot fault this place!
- Azhar (10/5): A great gem in the heart of the medina - Enjoyed our stay here- nice room, generous breakfast and friendly, helpful staff which were very accommodating when we asked to switch rooms. Overall satisfied for the money paid!
