Guest Reviews
- Wendy (10/5): Lovely hotel, great food - A last minute booking but we weren't disappointed. Tastefully decorated, clean bedroom, spacious bathroom.
No onesite parking but there is a carpark right across the road.
- Michelle (10/5): Wonderful! - Just lovely! Cute, quirky, dark and cozy. Best bed and amazing breakfast. Staff superb too! Great solo stay... huge thanks.
- Nicola (10/5): - Catching up with an old school friend, clean tidy room and friendly staff
- Norman (8/5): - the hotel was fine. What needs to be made clearer is that the car park is actually a Dorset Council run pay and display between 8am and 6pm.
Also the hotel is on a busy junction in Wimborne and is noisy at the peak hours.
- James (10/5): - Friendly welcome and service by the owner. Cosy, clean and comfortable room.
- Verified traveler (6/5): my stay - very clean
- Michael (6/5): Overall not too bad - Our overall stay was great, however , we had issues with several things in the room, the shower door did not close, the lighting was extremely poor, the dispensers in the bathroom didn’t work and our kettle was filthy. The room was clean and newly refurbished and the tea and bottled water was plentiful. The breakfast was delicious.
- Anne Marie (10/5): - Trefor the manager was great. Very helpful and kind. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was bright and clean. The facilities were great. The bed was comfortable. The bar and restaurant were nice and I enjoyed the live music and quiz night.
- Liz (10/5): - Lovely welcome, good clean room with all toiletries, water, coffee etc. couldn’t fault it and would thoroughly recommend.
- sara (10/5): Lovely place - Perfect for my 2 night business trip. Lovely food, great room, friendly staff. Will definitely be coming back
- James (10/5): - Everything great
- Christine (8/5): - The Lion Hotel was a pleasure to stay in. Clearly recently decorated to a high standard the quality of materials used were also reflected in the way the bedrooms were furnished and clean crisp linen on comfortable beds
- Lesley (10/5): - Lovely room very comfortable staff warm welcoming and friendly would definitely stay again and highly recommend 😀
- Claire (8/5): Anniversary stay - Gorgeous hotel, lovely large room. Great facilities and lovely staff.
Early awakening from washing machine and deliveries - understandable.
Will be returning again.
- Howard (8/5): Needs new beds - Sorry to say this but we had a great room, suite I think, but the let down was the bed.
The mattress was completely collapsed and we had a very uncomfortable night.
- Peter (10/5): The best - Absolutely stunning staff first class and an absolutely lovely building, will definitely be returning
- Katie (10/5): - This hotel is one of the most charming English places I have stayed. We only stayed here because we wanted to go to renoufs but we will definitely be back !
- Aaron (10/5): - Lovely rooms, good bar, fantastic food.
- Lynette (4/5): Family get together - Location poor due to traffic noise at night
No Parking . The room was over looked by general public so had to keep curtains closed. Breakfast took a long time to come
but was nice
- terry (10/5): Nice place to stay - All good staff were great, was on the top l floor so only for the fit
- Susan (8/5): - First appearance was off putting, the building is old and in need of some 'curb appeal' and repainting. The room was very clean but very dark decor.
The breakfast was excellent and staff friendly
- Ben (10/5): - Good!
- Susan (10/5): Lovely pub with lots of character - Really enjoyed my stay. Excellent breakfast. Very helpful friendly staff.
- peeping (10/5): - We had a really pleasant stay, friendly staff and excellent breakfast. Parking is limited but found a spot near by.
- Debbie (10/5): - Loved everything about The Minster.
- C (8/5): Anniversary stay - Great one night stay in one of the premium rooms. Gorgeous room in the eaves.
Lovely welcome on check in and good service throughout.
Food very tasty and extremely well presented.
- SARAH (10/5): AMAZING SUITE - I would definitely recommend the Pinot Noir suite to anyone who is happy to climb up the stairs!! This was amazing value and more of a suite than a room with freestanding bath as well as shower room. Luxurious look to the decor. I am told that the blinds for one window are on order so there will be a black out option. I was not woken up by the traffic although the pub is right on the road. Breakfast was included and wwwwonderful.
- Maureen (10/5): - Excellent staff so helpful lovely food overall a very nice stay
- Paul (10/5): AMAZING STAY! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! - This was my families third stay at the Minster Arms and it went great. Hannah (manager) and Penny (asst manager) took wonderful care of our family. Great service! The food in the pub was also amazing. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend the place!
- SKOPH- (6/5): - lovely room allthough a bit ackward up the stairs to get to it in the eaves. service good and very polite and helpful
- Joe (4/5): - arrived too the pub was ignored by the bar staff for a good five minutes not a hello or nothing. room hot water tap not working and very cold in the room carpets where stained and ripped and stains on the walls. shame as could be a lovely place with some minor adjustments
- Tina (10/5): Fab! - I nearly didn't book because of the bad reviews but glad we did, had a wonderful time! Lovely room and great breakfast!
- Jamie (10/5): Working away - Room was great couldn’t fault it bar and food was fantastic will be returning again when working in the area
- Julie (8/5): - Lovely place to stay. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately the Expedia website is misleading - there is NO on site car parking. The only parking available is in Pay & Display car parks nearby.
- A (2/5): Noisy and poor hygiene. Read other reviews. - Had to request my room to be changed due to unclean toilet - I won't give any details here, use your imagination. My room was changed, didn't have the same issue, but there is an overall feeling that the cleanliness not a priority. In addition, gappy timber sash windows did not filter out any noise whatsoever. I had the worst sleep for a long while - it felt like I slept in a tent in the middle of a roundabout. I'm not exaggerating.
Noise and lack of cleanliness makes it impossible to recommend this place. You've been warned - read the other reviews.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Okay - Basic room very very basic. Bathroom good but toilet would benefit from a good dose of Harpic100 to remove stained limescale All carpets were worn and stained.
- Andrew (2/5): - Comfortable, with good staff .
- david (10/5): - The lady behind the bar who checked me in was superb and would like to thank her ...
- Sharon (4/5): Disgusting. Filthy. Do not stay here - We stayed here to save a long journey home and back again after my fathers funeral.
Check in was OK, the young bar staff did this. I asked when check out was and they said anytime between 8 and 11.
Breakfast would be in a hamper outside the room left that night.
We stayed in the bar for drinks and dinner which was fine.
We went up to the room where I was delighted to see a beautiful roll top bath.
Just what I needed after the day I had just had.
The bath was filthy, with the previous occupants dirt and scum in it!
The headboard was stained and so was the carpet.
The breakfast hamper had stale croissants in. No butter or even a plate to eat them off.
The cereal bowls were wet, no milk for the cereal.
The whole place just felt grubby and shabby.
When we went to check out, all the doors to the pub were locked. I was expecting to see a person to hand the key to and to give them feedback about our experience.
The manager was meant to call me back and hasn't bothered.
It seems as though they just dont care when you look at the reiews on trip advisor.
I just wish that I had checked, but I was not in the right mindset when I booked!
- Philippa (2/5): - Difficult to find room. My room key opened another room. The stairs are too step. No signs to rooms. Room was not cleaned Not enough coffee. HAD to fill the kettle in the shower. The little shower attachment didnt work. Shower was too hot. Breakfast horrific. The bed was incrediabkw
- RACHEL (4/5): - Maia was fab. The room , however wasn’t. It all felt unloved . Breakfast hamper was ok, nothing special . No coffee and no one to ask
- Sonia (6/5): - Was very disappointed with the breakfast set up - hamper outside the room, which was also filled with sugar-overloaded foods! Not what I had planned when taking my dad there. However, staff were quick to rectify the situation with no hassles. Sadly lacks management there to make the place, the once vibrant place it used to be. Cleaners also didn't pay any attention to those of us staying more than one night. Again they need clear training and management. Location is great: staffs were helpful and friendly but some love and care needs to be given. Plus clearly let people know there is no breakfast service, only a hamper left - good for those maybe stopping the night for business. Still enjoyed our break in Wimborne but little things could make big difference there!
- Andrew (10/5): - Very comfortable, clean, quiet good food. Would stay again.
- Tamara (6/5): Dirty - Room was set out well and molton brown toiletries were lovely. The bad side was the unclean room. Toilet bowl dirty with in grained dirt, a scrub with bleach would have sorted it out. Pillows had a clean pillow case in but the pillow inside was showing and was yellowed and old. Shower was dirty again with ingrained dirt and sealant was peeled. Bed was very comfortable however.
- Shona (6/5): Continental Breakfast - Our second time at the Minster Arms but a bit disappointed this time around. We didn't know breakfast was continental and left out side the room the night before, compared to a lovely full English cooked to order last time we stayed. Nice room, very comfy bed and Molton Brown toiletries, but we won't be rushing back.
- Andrew (10/5): Spot on!! - Great stay! Really nice place! And the charcuterie and cheese board in the restaurant was amazing!!
- Trevor (8/5): Short Visit to Wimborne - The hotel is just a short walk from the centre of the small town of Wimborne. The building itself must be quite old with some uneven floors, a maze of corridors and old style windows. My stay was mid week and the place had more of a wine bar ambience than a pub. Internally the building was quiet though my room did face the road onto a small roundabout which was busy at peak times. The room had a quirky selection of furniture and the bed was comfortable. The en suite bathroom and toilet were modern with a particularly good shower. Sadly there was no cooked breakfast just a box provided outside the room with cereals, pastries, juice etc. At my time of stay the evening meals were limited to cheese and charcuterie but Wimborne is a little gem and there is a wide variety of places to eat.
- Philip (6/5): May stay again given location and price! - I guess the Minster Arms is going through a tough time. Breakfast used to have a great selection of Continental and cooked breakfast. Now a tatty hamper delivered outside the bedroom door!
Room was OK for the price but had a very small window which made it dark. Various maintain issues in the room. The Resturant is now closed and only bar meals.
No body around in the morning and no instructions on how to check out.....actually no instruction manual at all in the rooms.
- Claire (6/5): - There was no hot water in the morning. All the guests staying that night commented on it. I don't like having a luke warm shower so this was disappointing.
- Stephen (4/5): Let down by the breakfast - The room itself was clean and comfortable but we were very disappointed by the breakfast and we had trouble contacting the venue team both before and during our stay. Be aware that breakfast is a few items in a box left at your door the night before. There was a small cereal box each but the milk had gone off before the morning, probably because the heating was on full in the room all night. Other food was cake - a muffin and a pastry. There was no one in the venue to ask for more milk and we realised it is generally un-manned which explained why we couldn't get through on the phone before we arrived. If the venue could improve the breakfast, we would recommend it as a place to stay.
- Graham (8/5): Good little pub with rooms - The inn's computer had broken, so they didn't actually know we were coming, but they couldn't do enough for us, even going out to purchase non-allergenic bedding as my wife is allergic to feathers.
The room itself was lovely and the bar cosy, with a real fire in the grate.
Only downside was the restaurant menu was quite limited (due to time of year) and the breakfast selection also quite limited - only "continental" options and not even brown bread.
- Carol (8/5): - Lovely Pub, we stayed here many times and we have always enjoyed it. But our room this time was so small, you walked through the door and you fell on the bed where it was so small. No wardrobe just hanging rail sticking out from the wall no dressing table mirror which is a nightmare when you’re trying to do your hair or make up et cetera. It’s stated on the website full English breakfast. We were informed the next morning that it was only Continental. They did give us complimentary drinks and in all fairness, the staff are very friendly very efficient and very apologetic.!!
- Sylvie (6/5): - My room, which was nice and clean was facing the round about. I had asked to have a different room, but was told that the hotel was full. However there was only 2 more guests!
The breakfast was poor.
- Andrew (6/5): Dissapointing - Disappointing. I used to stay at The Minster Arms pre-Covid and loved it. This was my first stay this year, and unfortunately is likely to be my last. The evening meal was still as lovely as ever, but the room was very cold.
When I first went in, the window was wide open (in October) and so I shut it. I expected the radiator to come on (it was set to maximum) but it never did, and so the room remained cold all night. The bathroom towel rail was warm though.
Worst was the security light on the ceiling which just illuminated the room all night and was very off-putting, to the point I had to cover it using sticky notes until the room became dark.
In the morning, it was frustrating that breakfast now didn't start until 8am - too late for business travel, then disappointed that they no longer do a cooked breakfast - because it used to be great. There was no Breakfast Tea available, and they had forgotten to turn on the Urn so they had not hot water for guests. In fairness the staff did make me a pot of tea and another equally frustrated guest when asked.
The window cleaners were in during this breakfast going between guests and their tables which was a little off-putting, and when I went to raise these issues with the staff when I checked out, there was no one around. I left my key on the bar and left.
I know times are hard in hospitality - which is why I stayed there - but they do need to bring back a little more attention to detail and reinstate the hot breakfast.
- Sharon (4/5): - Room lighting was very dark and no full length mirror in the room. No plug socket close enough to bathroom to use hairdryer nesr a mirror. I did ask for mirror but not available
Breakfast wasn't served until 8 30 so on 1st morning i missed it as was on way to work. On day 2 went to check out at 8.30 and bar area was in darkness and all locked up had to leave keys in room door and no breakfast was being served even if i had wanted it. Room was booked with breakfast?,?
- Lois (10/5): - Really lovely stay in Minster Arms - comfortable clean rooms and great staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful Stay - We had a lovely one night stay here! We actually stayed for our wedding night and the room was comfortable and had a very large bath and shower. It was clean and the staff were very friendly. Thank you!
- Edward (8/5): - Really liked the two chaps in charge nice menu room tiny no shelving in the bathroom to put stuff easily rectified surely very handy for town minutes away
- Steve (6/5): - Business trip, the room allocated was facing the main road, this resulted in early morning traffic noise as no secondary double glazing.
Also the continental breakfast was very limited on choice.
Could maybe supply some cheese, ham, only marmalade choice of jams.
- Gavenna (6/5): Avoid Chablis room - Lovely pub. Stylish and recently refurbished to a high standard. Warm welcome on arrival and efficient staff.
Downside was room - Chablis. Pub is on the corner of 2 busy roads and window opened facing a roundabout which was noisy and meant couldn’t open window fully. Would recommend pub, would not recommend Chablis room unless you are used to heavy traffic noise.
Breakfast was simple continental style but ample bread & pastries available.
- jennifer (8/5): - Great place and excellent breakfast
- Kev (8/5): - When checking in a better description on finding our room would of been beneficial instead of us going around every floor trying to find room. Having to single beds pushed together doesn’t make for the greatest nights sleep.
Would of like the option of toast with breakfast as it wasn’t offfered.
Staff very friendly and very clean with overall good facilities.
- Peter (6/5): - Room was nice, check in was friendly and easy. When booking (and it may just be a hotels.com thing) a cooked breakfast was noted as included, however it was cereal/toast/pastries and all self service. I thought for 1 night £130 was a touch steep, but nevertheless a nice place to stay.
- David (10/5): - This was our third stay at The Minster Arms. Lovely accommodation, friendly staff and well positioned for exploring the area. Only downside is traffic noise from busy junction outside. However, we love the place and will return
- Robert (6/5): Tiny room - Small cramped room, low headroom in my room - if you're over 5'10" avoid.
No room numbers just room names so a chore to find the room.
Spotless room.
Continental breakfast only.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely hotel and room, although a bit noisy on the roundabout as room was quite warm so had to have windows open. Great room though.
- Linda (8/5): Looks lovely but bit disappointed - Friendly welcome.
First look the room was very nicely styled.
However, the bed was not comfy
, way too soft.
Noise from road all night kept us awake.
We booked for a cooked breakfast but this was not available on the day. Even though the booking stated it was included. The waitress said she would get a £10 per head refund sorted for us. This has not happened yet but may do soon. So we had a continental breakfast instead.
- Susan (10/5): Minster Arms Wimbourne - First time at the Minster Arms Wimborne. Comfortable Rooms with lovely beds and pillows.
Standard of hygiene good and the breakfasts are really lovely. We will most certainly stay again as we have family in the area. Fantastic value for money. Staff extremely pleasant.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Family stay in Wimborne - We reserved two rooms one for my wife and I and the other room for my brother who is 72. Our room was satisfactory however the other room ( my brother's) the only bedside lamp did not work and was dangerous and broken which took more than 12 hours to repair. Also my brother's room ( Chardonnay) was small and had a double bed even though it was a single room. We asked for a lounge chair as there was no where to sit and they supplied a dinning chair. Tea and coffee was supplied however the milk was not replenished on a regular basis. Breakfast was very good and the staff were always friendly. The other room we reserved ( Burgundy) was excellent and the bathroom in particular with both bath and shower with plenty of hot water.
We would stay here again however we would only select the rooms with a bath which we have learnt are limited.
- Shona (10/5): Date Night - Date night, what a lovely treat. Gorgeous room, divine bed, breakfast cooked to order. We’ll be back!
- Verified traveler (6/5): A little disappointed - We had to wait until 5.40pm for our room to be ready due to staff sickness, we had booked a luxury double but we’re put in a premium double, the lighting is very low no good for putting your makeup on and there’s no where to plug a hair dryer or straightners in where you can see in a mirror too. Take a pair of slippers because the carpets in the rooms are that hard wearing it hurts your feet. The bed was really comfortable, the room was warm and clean and the towels were fluffy. The staff were all friendly but the service is lacking, I waited half an hour for a cold breakfast sandwich. Really reasonable parking available across the road and a 4 minute walk to the Tivoli Theatre which was the reason for our stay
- Neal (10/5): Favourite place to stay in Wimborne. - One night stay after Christmas drinks in Wimborne
- Rupert (8/5): A perfect stay if they only had soundproof windows - We received a very warm welcome. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We felt very much at home. The dinner in the restaurant was tasty and breakfast was plenty.
But the well-feeling was tempered by very loud traffic noise as both rooms were oriented towards a crossroads. With soundproof windows it would have been a perfect stay.
- William (10/5): - Lovely room, great breakfast. All staff were very friendly and I must make a special mention to the manager who went the extra mile to ensure that our shower was mended when it broke down just before our arrival. The hotel is situated in the beautiful town of Wimborne Minster, an ideal base for exploring Dorset.
- Tom (10/5): Great stay - Great stay, welcoming & helpful staff. Let us check in early which was a huge help as we had a wedding to prepare for. Lovely room.
- Everton (10/5): Very good! - The room was spotless and true to the pictures. Breakfast took a long time to arrive as they were short on staff apparently but was delicious.
- dennis (6/5): - Wimborne is a good place to stay ,the room in the hotel eas small, noisy and hot ,A fan was provide but took up valuable floor space and was noisy .Inly a hanging rail for clothes which meant case had to stay on floor again making room difficilt to move in The hsirdryer was good but unfortunately the lead did not reach a mirror. The shower was very good with separate toilet No towel hanger in toilet.
Lighting in the room could be better.I have written to the hotel and still await a response. Food was excellrnt. If these things were addressed this could be a lovely stay for someone
- Eva (8/5): Better lighting required - We enjoyed our stay, however we were allocated a room almost in the attic of the property which involved climbing up 2 flights of narrow stairs in dimly lit corridors with our luggage. It would have been extremely difficult for anyone with health or disability issues. Guests should be warned prior ro booking. Also, the room had no mirror in and so drying hair & applying make up etc was difficult. The ensuite shower room was very very dimly lit also which wasnt ideal. A couple of small touches could improve the room and guest experience immensely.
- Matthew (10/5): Great Spot - Lovely spot, clean and fresh room, friendly staff.
- Michael (8/5): Nice place - Very clean room. But, bathroom was notcleaned thouroughly. Pubic hair in shower tray. Seperate toilet was not very big and not easy to use im 18st and six feet two ins. Lighting was very dim, ut looked like a spot light had been removed from ceiling. This made it difficult to see whilst making hot drinks and using desk. Road noise is a problem too. Windows are old sash type in kerping with the property. But nice comfortable bed and pillows. Shower is a nice big roomy one with two shower heads. Shame about the pubic hair. No on site parking, but over road a few parking spaces and another car park about 50 metres away. Both are charged between 8am and 6pm but free overnight. The charges are very reasonable 80p for 4 hours but whole day not much more.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff were friendly and helpful, hotel in the centre of town close to all amenities.
- S (6/5): Good in parts, but overall disappointing - I booked this hotel for my brother because he was visiting me and I thought that it would be a nice idea to book him into this hotel which I had heard was nice.
He said that the staff on reception and in the eating area downstairs were lovely. Breakfast was good. The bed was very comfortable.
However, on arrival he and his partner were very tired from the journey and after eating downstairs, retired to bed. They tried to open the window because the room was stuffy. It was sealed shut. The coffee machine was broken so they could not have a hot drink. There was free water but he did not want to drink it because the bottle top was dusty and he did not know how long it had been there. They gave up and went to sleep, exhausted but did not have a good night because of the stuffiness of the room.
This is such a shame. I wrote to the Minster Arms to tell them what my brother had told me, and to give them chance to respond, but I have heard nothing from them.
I am disappointed for my brother (I had told him I had heard it was a lovely place to stay) and also disappointed that they could not be bothered to answer my email.
I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone - and my brother would not want to stay there again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location close to town, nice pub feel to it with modern touches. Good size room and tasty breakfast. Only niggle would be it was noisy after 6am in the morning with roads.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Friendly comfortable place to stay - Lovely friendly place, super clean rooms, modern bathroom, and well set-up bedroom. We were on the top (2nd) floor, and the only issue was the noise from the road outside.
- Grzegorz (8/5): - Really nice stay in an old style. Nice, clean and comfy room. Maybe a bit small, but can't complain. Coffee maker with a nice Nespresso coffee, tea, hot chocolate etc.
Room cleaned daily. Fresh towels every day.
- Martin (8/5): - The room was excellent as was the service.
- Rebecca (10/5): Very welcoming - Very friendly and welcoming staff. No free parking but there are car parks close by. Comfortable beds and nice fresh, good quality bedding
- Patrick (10/5): overnight stay - excellent dinner especially seafood platter
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Looking at the web site it looked lovely, when we arrived the room was stone cold ,cobwebs all over curtins, ceiling and lamp shade dirty and stained, walls all marked, the bath room looked gorgeous bit when i got in it th shower head was dull of lime scale and most of the spray holes were blocked, the bar aera was superb
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely hotel with gorgeous food, very friendly and helpful staff
- NY (4/5): bad room - arrived and checked in ok. the room had a leaking radiator that they knew about and placed a heater fan in the room to compensate. informed they could not relocate me as hotel was full. the coldest night of the year so I had to keep the fan on all night which kept me awake. i complained in the morning but breakfast was served by a part-time lady and she could not help at all.
- Philip (8/5): - No hot water in the morning even after running for 15 minutes ?
No real apology or recompense ?
Irish coffee £9 ?
Needs double glazing in front bedrooms for traffic noise ?
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place...
Recommended it if you need dinner or accommodation
- Paul (10/5): - Lovely spacious room. Clean. Nicely decorated. Quiet ( back of hotel). Staff all helpful and friendly but particular praise must go to Sophie who booked us in and showed us 5 rooms to chose from. Breakfast excellent. Lovely log fire to sit by for a drink. Very welcoming . Cheap parking over the road although you can’t pay in advance before 0800. Suggest using JustPark App to save getting out of bed!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent choice at breakfast.
Very comfy bed
Nespresso machine and Molton Brown bathroom accessories
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Parking. No advice given before arriving. Parking possible but difficult for those not familiar with surrounding. Had to get up at 8am to put another ticket on car.
Booking using Amex card, but property would not take Amex (Duh).
Bathroom basin plug did not work.
